1. One of the things I have come to understand and accept is that humans have arsehold tendencies. Yes, there are arseholes like the one you describe out there and they aren't necessarily in the minority either. What I continue to have a terribly hard time wrapping my mind around is the existence of those who willingly embrace such arseholes but also do all in their power to continue enabling them in the name of what they consider "family". For instance, why would those who were abandoned by a man—father &/or husband— allow such a person to not only walk right back into their lives and home(s), and maybe go as far as to assert himself in the way you describe? No matter how much I have tried, I can never seem to understand the reasoning of such people.
