Banjuu: ➜Good evening. I need a useful advice on how to address an issue regarding me ad my partner; she complains bitterly and constantly over things i consider minute. We have been together for close to five months now. She is nice and one the kindest woman i've ever been with. But barely a month after we were together, I noticed something about her that is getting on my nerves now; she complains constantly over the most ridiculous thing. Few of the complaints she has inunated me with include me saying "good morning". This becomes a problem when i say good morning or passing a message without adding endearing word or phrase or using her actual name. Something like; "Good morning, Tolani" always yields an issue we may drag for a day or two. Another instance is me sending using particular picture or messages that are not catchy t celebrate her birthday, me not giving prompt or accurate responses to her messages. Sometimes it's me not giving her enough that covers her transport fare when she visits. I have hade to explain why, how, when just to clarify issues. Sometimes i apologize and when I don't she accuses me invalidating her opinions or proving to be "all knowing" and "always right". I'm getting overwhelmed with her incessant complains and I'm seriously thinking of calling it off with her, but I candidly love her. Dude, are you for real? This isn't about her but about you not being convinced she is the woman for you. You already have red-flags alarms blaring inside of you so what are you waiting for? Please leave this gal so she can go find herself another man who does not mind her complaints and is not overwhelmed by what you consider nagging/complaints. You, on the other hand, should go out there and find yourself a woman who you meets your particular constitution. |

LordIsaac: ➜You don't know all the story! I don't need to know all stories. I simply need to know that there is no physical evidence between being married and having success in business or a career. The billions of successful people around the world who found success long before even imagining marriage are more than enough proof of this simple fact. Even a child in primary 2 should be able to explain this one to you easily. If a single individual can be successful in business and/or career then what that means is that marriage has nothing to do with success in business and career. |

prophetfire: ➜ Unfortunately you are replying out of context and contradicting yourself. The issue is his statement that it's Easterners that do like that. I told him that it's more of westerners approach to Christianity as the church in question is a western church and that Easterners aren't into it as much as westerners. You now said that he's right, meaning that his assertion about Easterners as opposed to westerners is right. ➜And then you turned around again to say that it's all ethnicities that are prone to that, which is contrary to his assertion that it's only Easterners. Where do you stand? Supporting what he said and at the same time saying it's all ethnicities that are into it is contradicting yourself. 1. There is no Westerner/Northerner/Easterner angle to the behavior. It is a behavior commonly observed among the religious across all Nigerian ethnicities. His major mistake is in assuming his parent's actions were connected to their particular ethnicity. A read through his writeup and you come away realizing that his ability to objectively assess situations has been severely impaired by his upbringing/trauma from his childhood. Goodlyhrt: A little appraisal of the Yoruba people. In the way some of them practice the Abrahamaic religion. They don't go overboard like the Northerners because of Islam or as strict as the Easterners, my people, in the way they practice Christianity. I stayed in Lagos for upto six years and I was initially confused in the way they practiced the Abrahamaic religions but now I understand better and I am in love with their way in that aspect. Lastly be wise in your association with people. I.e. avoid secret societies or cult groups because although they'd promise you protection but it's all a lie. 2. You are equally wrong in insisting that because you view Easterners as sociable beings therefore he must be wrong about what he said of religious Easterners. Goodlyhrt: A little appraisal of the Yoruba people. In the way some of them practice the Abrahamaic religion. prophetfire: I understand your plight about your ignorantly religious parents. However you are wrong to say that that's how Eastern people practice Christianity. You are using your parents to define Easterners. Easterners are sociable to the core and are more of Catholics, Anglicans and Methodist and Presbyterians and this makes them more open minded about religion and social life. Remember that DCLM your parents attend is a Southwest church. The problem is that your parents are among the few Easterners that Yoruba-based Pentecostal churches brainwashed with ignorance and you became a victim. He is not lying! The same behavior is exhibited here in the United States by members of Nigerian churches. The vast majority of them are unable to properly integrate into the larger society due to social impairment. That is why their lives revolve around their churches and church programs. Religion gets its power from reducing the social connections of its members to turn them into captives— prisoners/slaves to the doctrines/traditions of the religion. And all ethnicities are impacted the same. |

Goodlyhrt: ➜My parents tried to raise us in the way that most Christian homes would go.. In the way of the Lord! And all the associated activities of going to Church all Sundays, ignoring all other associations as they are perceived as being unequally yoked with unbelievers. Adhering to all doctrines of the church no questions. I was raised in this type of environment. In short my parents were staunch members of the Deeper Life Christian Ministries (DLCM) and all my formative years where under the doctrines and teachings of the church. My parents and the Church taught me to put all my hope in the Lord in all situations and never to complain much because God will make a way even at the dieing minutes. So I grew up weary of my non church going environment. I wouldn't find myself being a social animal that I am working aggressively hard on becoming nowadays. So I made church friends, and went to church gatherings, church schools right until my secondary school days.
But there is a catch. I watched my family falter and we lost everything we had. My father went down with diabetes around 2008 and nobody to help. He lost his carpentry workshop and showroom.. almost lost his life to the disease. The Church, my church DLCM couldn't offer us good help because they too were individually waiting on the Lord too. So they offered us help but meager. But that was the only gathering we knew and are aquatinted with. No Umunna membership, ordinary friends gathering or in another word Friends club. Even market association, my parents never belonged to any of those.
We solely waited on the Lord and around 2011, my dad's diabetes was somehow controlled. Thanks to my Uncle in the village who came to our rescue by using herbs and leaves to help my dad. But not without enough convincing and lobbying from my uncle because my parents saw the help as being fetish of some sort. In fact at that time we were not in talking terms with the said uncle because of his native practices. But at the end of the day he came to our rescue through the herbs he gave to my dad. This is just a side of the damage that religion/politics has and continues to wreak on the lives of Nigerians across the board. There is no separating them from cults! 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩 |

techgurl12: ➜ I am seeking advice from anyone that know about immigration matters here. M marriage is at the stage of divorce. Three years ago, I wanted to travel with my husband and kids to the US, but it didn't work out due to financial reasons. Meanwhile, I already started the process and got passports for all of us. Now that we are about to part ways, my husband is requesting to have the kids international passports. I wanted to give him at first, but when I saw the way he was threatening to deal with me if I don't give him the passports before the divorce, I became scared of making another mistake I might regret later. What do you guys think? Please fam, skip the insults and advise a confused woman. Do not hand your children's passport over to anyone or else your story will likely end up regretting it just as it did for many before you. Please, make time to read up on this story https://www.nairaland.com/7899243/nigerian-man-stranded-after-wife#126771224. It is of a woman who made the mistake of letting her husband have her children's passports. These are not things people should pray about because reality is that over 25% of the population in Nigeria as is either experienced or are right as we speak experiencing something similar. 🥱😂🥱🥱🥱 I understand your confidence that you can do without. As I said, I don't know how old you are or your financial situation so it is not easy to suggest you leave at this time. For all I know I may be talking to a minor. All the same, just wanting you to realize that not the vast majority of those who left before they could stand are, many years later, still trying to find their footing. As of 2022, there were over 25 million homeless Nigeria. That number has since ballooned in the last 18 months and is likely to continue rising for the next couple of years. 🤔 Again, i am only trying to make certain you look at the big picture here as you make your next move. |
