“Captive power generation permits are issued to entities that aim to own and maintain power plants for generating power for consumption and not for sale to a third party.
The commission issued nine captive power generation permits in 2024/Q1 with a total nameplate capacity of 52.57MW.
Our correspondent gathered that other licensed companies for mini-grids are Daybreak Power Solutions, TIS Renewable Energy Limited, Auro Nigeria Private Limited, Watts Exchange Limited, Centum Dopemu Energy Services Ltd, DMD Electric Limited Lagos State.
Section 165(1)(m) of the Electricity Act 2023 permits the commission to award licence of mini-grid concessions to renewable energy companies to exclusively serve a specific geographical location indicating aggregate electricity to be generated and distributed from a site with the obligation to serve customers to request service.

Is it me or are these supposed mini-grid projects basically individual companies trying to get themselves weaned off of dependence on petroleum for power generation needs and basically source alternative ways of supporting their own private businesses in Nigeria? Essentially, I don't see how this helps the Nigerian situation as the vast majority of the generated energy will not be put into distribution at the end of it all. I am not saying the companies have no right to pursue their own interest. I simply wonder why it is being advertized as some sort of improvement for all in Nigeria when it does not seem the case at all.

And a Chinese company was not only aware of it but also filed to have French courts seize the aircraft before it was delivered. Tinubu didn't purchase that plane with his own money so how in the world could he have purchased a plane without the Senate being aware of it or providing the funds for the transaction?
