All ok sir as I hope you are too?

It feels as if there is a concerted effort lately by Ndigbo Obidients to use Benin related monikers to start making false claims particularly about owning Lagos.

Benin posters, that I interact with on Benin related threads like the Edo gubernatorial elections one, on both (or all) sides of the political divide, tend never to involve themselves in such banality.

It is interesting to note that the ones dwelling on this "Benin owns Lagos" mantra tend not to appear in Benin related threads.

Thankfully it appears Yoruba posters are seeing through it all because responses (thankfully) have not included insults and abuses of Benin people as used to unfortunately happen in situations like this.

I don't understand how any of this improves the discourse on here and is allowed to stand by mods.
@aswani

I'm doing great...Thank you.

That's a brilliant feedback.

What these paid trolls are only destroying their principal's brand and they do NOT know is that the Benin royal family dynasty and the royalty of Ife have historical ties (With Usen being the cultural connection point) for centuries and it's the same with the Awori patriarch in Lagos, Olofin Ogunfunminire who was an Ife Prince hence he migrated from Ife over 700 years ago and first occupied Otto Island then spread to Lagos Island and eventually shared the lands among his children who are the ancestors of the current High Chiefs (White Cap Chiefs) of Lagos Island.

The Eko (Lagos Island) royal family and Benin also have historical ties with the Palace paying annual tribute to Benin until Oba Kosoko stopped it in the 1800s but still maintained a symbolic relationship with Benin.

I was just going through this thread right BELOW and saw what those people you referenced are doing deliberately baiting the Yoruba folks, they are never sober but use series of propaganda to look for trouble.

I'll share some videos with you on another thread later just so you have more evidence about how these people have finally EXPOSED themselves to ridicule in such locations as Ghana and SA.

The classic term "Lagosian" is historically ONLY used to refer to the indigenes of Lagos Island alone. "If you're NOT an indigene of Lagos Island, then you are NOT a Lagosian."
I have archival materials, maps and magazines published BEFORE the creation of Lagos State on May 27, 1967, (as part of the 12 new States by General Yakubu Gowon), showing CLEARLY that "Lagosian" is ONLY used to reference indigenes of "Lagos Island!"

The Ijebu indigenes of the 3 Ijebu LGAs of Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, the Badagry indigenes or the other 17 LGAs of Lagos State that are Awori-dominated are NOT "Lagosians" BUT simply "INDIGENES" of Lagos State.
These days, you will find uninformed people [who are NOT even Yorubas BUT ONLY Lagos residents] wrongly calling themselves "Lagosians" and some of the new generation journalists and media outlets are responsible for this disinformation.
PoliticsRe: Gbadebo-Rhodes Family Picture In Lagos Island (Throwback) by Konquest:

See the Family photo of the Gbadebo Rhodes family picture located at Lagos Island.

This is an Historic photo as it shows that Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour is actually an 'omo eko' i.e A true Lagosian.

By 2027 we would be asking Governorship Candidate to show a picture of the family house in Lagos, as it's time for true Lagosians to rule Lagos.

Nothing to Lie with again against Gbadebo.
You're highly uninformed about the REAL history of Eko (Lagos Island). The people you are calling "Omo Eko" or "true Lagosians" are NOT originally indigenes of Lagos Island BUT largely from the Yoruba country interior of Oyo, Egba, Ijesa, Owu, etc. In addition, the classic term "Lagosian" is historically simply used to refer to the indigenes of Lagos Island alone. If you're NOT an indigene of Lagos Island, then you are NOT a Lagosian.

They ONLY settled on Lagos Island from the 1850s and beyond after returning from: Brazil [The royal Alakija family of Egba origin, Candido Da Rocha family of Ijesa origin, Da Costas, Da Silvas, Pinheiros], Cuba, United States via Liberia [The famous Vaughan family of Egba origin and Jackson family], Jamaica, Trinidad [The Mosley family from Oyo], Sierra Leone [Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Herbert Macaulay (Herbert Macaulay is Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther's grandson born by his biological daughter) and Rev. Samuel Johnson of Oyo origin, The Doherty family (with the political campaign poster ATTACHED of 'Funso Doherty on Page 1 of this thread) are ORIGINALLY descended from Yewa in Ogun State via a male ancestor of royal bloodline who returned with his Ekiti wife from Sierra Leone], etc, after the trans-Atlantic slave trade ended from the mid-1800s and started claiming Lagos Island as their adopted home while others such as the famous Haastrop family of royal Ijesha origin went back to their original Yoruba homelands. A Haastrop is an Oba today in Ijesaland.

The original Yoruba ancestries of this Rhodes-Vivour within the Yoruba country is NOT even very clear. The hyphenated name "Rhodes-Vivour" is simply the combination of two different family names. The Rhodes family section of the Rhodes-Vivour name is descended from a Yoruba female line and Vivor is descended from a male line via Fernando Po via Sierra Leone where he was originally born to a liberated African man from a slave ship whose ethnic origins are still opaque.

Fortunately, the returnees of the 1850s from Brazil, Cuba, Sierra Leone, etc, are largely of various Yoruba origins just like the Aworis who are PURE Yoruba folks originally from Ile Ife and they are the REAL INDIGENES of Eko (Lagos Island) so it was easy for them to finally stay on Lagos Island. In reality, the descendants of the Yoruba returnees from Brazil, Cuba, Sierra Leone, etc, of the 1800s (who were influential and wealthy property owners and moguls) have family compounds or family houses on the Lagos Island or the nearby elite sections of Ebute-Meta, Yaba and Surulere.

PhonesRe: Apple Unveils iPhone Air - With A Breakthrough Design by Konquest: 12:24am On Sep 10, 2025
nlfp.mod:
Introducing iPhone Air, a powerful new iPhone with a breakthrough design

iPhone Air features an impossibly thin and light design that is more durable than any previous model, with innovative camera experiences and remarkable all‑day battery life.

Apple today debuted the all-new iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone ever made, with pro performance. iPhone Air features a breakthrough titanium design that is elegant and light yet strong, with an innovative internal architecture that enables the latest iPhone experiences. The back of iPhone Air is now protected with Ceramic Shield, and the front cover uses Ceramic Shield 2, delivering 3x better scratch resistance, making iPhone Air more durable than any previous iPhone. iPhone Air also features a stunning 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz.1 With the most Apple-designed chips in an iPhone — the powerhouse A19 Pro, N1, and C1X — iPhone Air is the most power-efficient iPhone ever made. Paired with the redesigned internal architecture and software optimizations, iPhone Air has fantastic all-day battery life. A powerful 48MP Fusion Main camera enables the equivalent of four lenses with incredible image quality, and the innovative 18MP Center Stage front camera takes selfies to the next level.

iPhone Air will be available in four gorgeous finishes: space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 12, with availability beginning Friday, September 19.

“The all-new iPhone Air is so powerful, yet impossibly thin and light, that you really have to hold it to believe it’s real. This huge leap in design and engineering is only made possible through Apple innovation, especially Apple silicon,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “iPhone Air is a brand-new member of the iPhone family that delivers advanced features our users will love, like pro performance, a versatile 48MP Fusion camera system, our innovative Center Stage front camera, and great all-day battery life — all in a breakthrough design that feels like you’re holding the future.”

A Breakthrough Design

Featuring a breakthrough design with pro performance, iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever made at 5.6mm, and it is incredibly light, with a large, stunning display. The grade 5 titanium frame is strong, with an elegant high-gloss mirror finish, and a new plateau on the back that is precision-milled on both sides to house the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon. This maximizes space for the battery to deliver remarkable all-day battery life. The thin design also features the Action button, so users can easily access a variety of functions with just a press, and Camera Control, to quickly launch the camera or enable visual intelligence.2

The stunning 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display features ProMotion, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smooth scrolling and stunning graphics. The Always-On display shows important information at a glance, and when not in use, it efficiently adjusts down to 1Hz. iPhone Air is easy to use outside with 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness — the highest ever on iPhone — and 2x better outdoor contrast.

iPhone Air also introduces the Ceramic Shield 2 front cover, which is tougher than any smartphone glass or glass-ceramic with a new Apple-designed coating, providing 3x better scratch resistance and improved anti-reflection to reduce glare. For the very first time, Ceramic Shield now protects the back of iPhone, including the plateau, delivering 4x better resistance to cracks than the back glass on previous models. And with the strong titanium frame, iPhone Air exceeds Apple’s stringent bend strength requirements. This design makes iPhone Air more durable than any previous iPhone.

@aswani

I hope you're doing OK?

I saw your post late yesterday but had a limited time to reply all my mentions. Indeed, I appreciate your positive thoughts and insights here.

The moniker I castigated in that post used a Benin-Edo name (which could have been a fake name created for trolling like these bigots have been doing to spread disinformation and to divert attention from the real ethnic origins of the trolls). Benin-Edos don't relentlessly derail threads by spewing hate towards Yoruba folks and others on this discussion forum or other online platforms unless when "genuinely provoked" by territorial expansionists or secessionists and those casting aspersions on the Oba of Benin and we know who they are.

Regardless, a manual crackdown through bans by these mods on those well-known trolls is needed to curb these infractions. I keep seeing the NL thread posts of those who regularly use "hate speech and disinformation" being pushed to the NL front page and this ONLY encourages these monikers to continue their bad habits through selective application of punishments by some mods here. There is very little the so-called NL bot can do if strict manual monitoring of toxic posts isn't done.

Cheers.

Dear konq.uest... so after you have researched and found out its bush-rat(african giant rat), if its cooked and presented to you, will you eat it?
@Love800

That's an interesting question.

To be honest, I WON'T. I would rather go for the Grasscutter that is reared on farms. That would be more preferable as you do not know what kind of zoonotic diseases some of these bush meats contain... Although many people around Nigeria have been eating well-garnished Okete (cooked in Egusi soup and more with pounded yam delicacy)
. I definitely recall that I "may have eaten it" in the past WITHOUT knowing (especially back in the early 1980s) while traveling privately by road as a result of a holiday trip from the North of Nigeria to Lagos State through Jebba in Kwara State and we stopped over in Jebba to eat some highly refreshing pounded yam and what was termed tasty "bush meat" Egusi soup from one of the several Yoruba-owned canteens along that Jebba bridge axis which crosses the river Niger linking Kwara State to Niger State, but I can't bring myself to doing so now. Ebola and Lassa fever infections are caused by eating animals such as gorillas and rats caught in the wild if NOT properly cooked.

Although the broad-term "Bush meat" is used to describe any animal caught in the forest or bush such as antelopes, bush rat (African giant rat), python snakes, hedgehogs, monkey and gorilla 🦍 meat loved by the Ijaw folks of Bayelsa as posted by an NL user a few years ago and more, I would rather stick to farm-reared animals such as snails, aquaculture and/or sea foods, turkeys 🦃, chickens, or the Grasscutter, etc.
I hope this history helps.

True that.

Dantata who is Aliko Dangote's maternal grandfather is an Agalawa (of paternal Tuareg descent) was the richest man in the entire West Africa as of the time he died.

Frederick Forsyth CLEARLY stated in his non-fiction book on the Nigerian Civil War published in 1969 (I have a copy of the book entitled The Biafra Story), that Louise Ojukwu made his first million Pounds from the resale of the land he ORIGINALLY leased from the Yoruba indigenes of Iruland (Victoria Island)
NOW in Lagos State to the British Colonialists. Frederick Forsyth and Emeka Ojukwu we're very close friends so the information is VERY correct. The blessings from Yorubaland made Louise Ojukwu to become the first millionaire from his tribe many decades after the wealthy businessmen and financier, Candido DaRocha [born originally in Bahia Brazil of Ijesa-Yoruba paternal and maternal descent] became the FIRST EVER Nigerian to become a £ millionaire.

This is what those of us with major investments in Ghana and other countries have been saying about the embarrassments caused to Nigerians for years now by some bad elements from the SE of Nigeria who don't care about the effect their heinous actions constitute to the image of folks of Nigerian descent... From the Oyarifa in Accra arrest of that drug baron in 2025, to the Gallamsay robberies, to the Kumasi bank armed robberies, kidnappings for ransom, Ghanaians have had enough! This will NEVER be tolerated as other Nigerians have come out online and offline, and Ghanains are aware of the ethnic origins of the perpetrators due to the FACT that Ghanains still have a large population living in Nigeria right from the 1950s increasing during the oil boom years of the 1970s. The Yorubas and Hausas have had contact through long-distance trading with Ghana for over 300 years and over 200 years respectively and Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the main opposition party leader in Ghana said the same thing about the Yorubas and Hausas peaceful nature in Ghana but some of the SE folks who arrived in recent history are causing problems for the other peaceful Nigerians.

It's good that after living in initial denial, some members of the Ibo community in Ghana and outside Ghana are now making blunt videos condemning the negative actions of some of their people who cause problems in Ghana for other over 300 distinct ethnic groups of Nigeria including innocent Ibos who just want to live their lives in peace! I have the videos downloaded for posterity sake because some of these people have an insidious way of accusing others of persecuting them while playing the victimhood game.

nlfpmod:
Yeye Mofin of Lagos and founder of the renowned Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, Leila Fowler, is dead.

Her death was confirmed on Sunday in a statement by the school, which she established in 1991 in honour of her late daughter.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved founder, Chief (Mrs.) Leila Fowler, on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

“Chief (Mrs.) Fowler was a true pioneer, an erudite lawyer, and a visionary educationalist who founded Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in 1991.

“Her life was a testament to the power of empowering young women through education.

“Her guidance and motherly warmth built not just a school, but a community dedicated to excellence,” the statement partly read.

Born in Lagos on March 23, 1933, Fowler (née Moore) was educated at CMS Girls’ School in Lagos and later at Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha, where she obtained her Senior Cambridge Certificate in 1951.

She initially pursued a teaching career before training as a nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Her academic ambition later led her to law at Middle Temple, where she was called to the Bar in 1962, before returning to Nigeria to be called to the Nigerian Bar in 1963.

Fowler built a career in legal practice, specialising in insurance law and consultancy.

She also contributed to public life, serving as a councillor in the Lagos City Council from 1978 to 1980, and was actively involved with the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Red Cross, and the Corona Schools Trust Council.

Her passion for education culminated in the founding of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, which has since become one of Nigeria’s leading all-girls schools, renowned for its culture of academic excellence and leadership training.

Fowler was widowed in 2015 after the death of her husband, Professor Vidal Fowler, a surgeon and respected scholar.

In recognition of her contributions to education and society, she was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Yeye Mofin of Lagos by Oba Adeyinka Oyekan II.

The school’s tribute described her as a devout Christian, lover of music, philanthropist and mentor who “will be deeply missed,” adding that “Her legacy of service, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.”

That's what objective investigations from historical archives entails. A lot of historical disinformation is out there being pushed by organized gangs and secessionists with the advent of the Internet, BUT by consistently archiving raw historical evidence, these fictitious stories can easily be debunked.

Reno being an astute UK-educated lawyer, investor, and history enthusiast did a brilliant job in emphasizing on these specifics.
Kudos to him.

I like Dambu Nama, Suya, Kilishi, Kosai (sprinkled with enough yaji).

I'm not a fan of Masa, tuwo, or fura.

Recently, I bought yaji all the way from Kaduna for my noodles. There's this flavour it gives. kiss
In terms of taste buds acclimatization, I can deduce that you've almost become a far Northerner already since you like some of these meat-based cuisines above. Indeed, the peppery mix (or yaji)🌶️ consisting of dry peppers, peanuts, ginger, and some other secret spices is impressive!.

If you ever find yourself in the Allen Avenue area of Ikeja, I propose that you glide into the "University of Suya" to get some special Suya combo offers with their added "unique yaji taste" which you'll NOT find from other wannabe Suya outlets. ONLY the London-based "Obalende Suya" comes close. The Northern Hausa guy has been operating on Allen Avenue since the 1980s till it got rebranded to it's current name of University of Suya and it has a huge clientele among the Middle Class to the Upper Class.

As for the "yaji," you ordered from Kaduna for your noodles, what's significantly special about it?

Last but not least, I took the time to scan through the thread pages here and without a shadow of doubt, a lot of posters here talking down on Northern cuisines have deep-rooted prejudices and more.

Most of the comments here are stereotypical. 'Too much seasoning' 'No meat' 'little oil' bla bla. Who set the standard for amount of seasoning, meat and oil?

You have your food which you enjoy, that's good. But don't disparage that of others.

There are a lot of foreign cuisines which people consider exotic but I don't savor them. That doesn't mean they aren't good.
Indeed, there's a lot of low self-esteem, confirmation bias, deliberate disinformation and bigotry associated with these sorts of highly IRRESPONSIBLE attacks on Hausa cuisines on this NL thread and on other online platforms.

There are standard restaurants where Northern and Hausa cuisines are served. There are Northern and Hausa, Kanuri female food YouTubers who offer the best in modern culinary skills. Period.
