Education / ASUU Strike: Jonathan Approves N400bn Lifeline – SSANU by kozykid(m): 7:55am On Aug 19, 2013 |
The end to the present strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be in sight as President Goodluck Jonathan has approved N400 billion for the infrastructural development of Nigerian universities. The document to this effect is expected to be made available today at the meeting of the presidential committee on implementation of the NEEDS assessment in the universities with the leaders of the four university-based unions – the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The President of SSANU, Samson Ugwoke, made the revelation while addressing his union members at the SSANU National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the weekend at the University of Abuja. Ugwoke, briefing the SSANU members on the activities of the NEEDS assesment implementation committee, led by Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam. He noted that the fund was different from the N100 billion Governor Suswam had raised from donor agencies and big companies to tackle the problems of Nigerian universities in 2013. The labour leader said: “Let me give you a tip on what the NEEDS assessment committee is doing. The president has approved that within the next four years; N400 billion would be expended in infrastructural development of Nigerian universities, to transform the universities to international standard. “N100 billion has already been raised by Suswam committee out of which 61 universities have been pencilled down, as contained in the NEEDS assessment committee. The N100 billion is expected to address needs of the universities in the areas which include re-furbishing and renovation of lecture theatres and lecture halls, re-furbishing and renovation of laboratories/libraries and the renovation of hostels. “The second category is building of new hostels of international standard, self-contained rooms, the latest model in the world. That is the standard to be built in every university, and also the state-of-the-art laboratories as well as classrooms, lecture theatres and the halls.” Ugwoke pointed out that the money had been shared and out of the N100 billion, N96 billion had been sent to universities. He added: “The committee is meeting again on Monday, and by Monday (today), the document will be out. This time around, it is not only by giving university money, but it will be monitored to ensure that the money is used to transform the universities, to bail universities out of the present situation and developed to an international recognized university standard.”http://www.osundefender.org/?p=116983 1 Like |

Islam for Muslims / Re: Islam And Under Age Marriage! by kozykid(m): 7:33pm On Jul 21, 2013 |
Please after laughing ehn just read and understand the message in this BC composed and sent by an angry youth who uses Nokia 3310=)) I support marrying out a girl "AS SOON AS SHE ATTAINS ADULTHOOD". Now am writing from common sense, because common sense is uncommon! Nigerian Youths today are the MOST STUPID & IGNORANT set of individuals on earth. A bunch of STAGNANT IDIOTS with no will of moving forward (I do not mean to be provocative). We waste our time on social networks creating confusion out of nothing. Months ago it was the OGA @ THE TOP saga! Now its SAY NO TO EARLY GIRL MARRIAGE!So what if a man decides to marry out his daughter early Nobody is forcing anybody to marry out his' early too. You can decide to keep your Daughter Until 40 or even for a life time, nobody cares! After all you bedded your wife to have her. Today ASUU is on strike NO youth is broadcasting about it. ASUP just called off months old strike, no tongue sang about it during that period. When the Government is looting the country we are here pondering on who to marry out his daughter and who not to. Singing the Gospel " Give the girl a book not a husband" "give the girl a pen not a penis". What if you send her to school and she chooses a boyfriend over her books? Or chooses a penis over her pen? What ifHow many of you girls can confidently say "I'm still a virgin from secondary through tertiary institution? How many of you guys can say my girlfriend told me its pen over penis? So please my fellow Nigerians, we should concentrate our forces to say: NO TO BAD GOVERNANCE,NO TO RECYCLED LEADERSHIP,NO TO ASUU/ASUP STRIKE,NO TO FUEL HIKE,NO TO BOKO HARAM vs FG,NO TO CHILD AND MATERNAL MORTALITY..... So many positive NO! to be said by us. This a wake up call to NIGERIAN YOUTHS 2 Likes |

Literature / Questions Every Nigerian Must Answer by kozykid(m): 1:50pm On Nov 21, 2012 |
Questions every Nigerian must answer Why are we so docile in Nigeria? Or is the apt word foolish? We are being cheated yet we remain quiet why? We pay tax yet we provide our own source of power, water, roads and security [OPC, Bakassi e.t.c] Those who eke out a living are being molested by the government [The gala and pure water sellers] The police have become licensed thieves. The traditional rulers have become leaders of gangstas. Street urchins [Agbero] molest commercial motorcyclist (vehicles) collecting another man’s sweat Do we know the number of able-bodied men running a hundred meters every min just to sell 'one' 50 naira gala? Do we know how many of them are in Lagos alone? What if they put down their galas and pure waters and turn to armed robbery? Will they attack the upper class? Why are we fighting for a meagre minimum wage of 18 000? Is it ever going to be approved? Why will a senator in this country earn 50 000 000 naira a month? Will they ever decrease their salary? With the way citizens buy the 1 000 000 naira 'Mikano' and 'John Holt' generators, will we ever witness stable power in Nigeria? Why will any sane man wake up in the morning and take his ride through gullies and a minimum of two hour holdups every day for the next ten years? Why will he spend 4 hours on a road that should take him 20mins and not feel that breaking the jaw of his local government chairman is the next line of action? joke Do you know your local government chairman? How many high-profile cases have our police solved? Who killed Bola Ige the number 3 man in the federation? Why will a man who steals a woman's bag be sentenced to two years in prison while Cecilia Ibru who stole and wrecked the lives of thousand get things easy? When will our backs be against the wall? When would we say enough is enough? what can be done to inspire youths to FORCE a change? For more breath taking articles follow @kosokooyeyemi..com 2 Likes |

Politics / Obasanjo Warns Jonathan- Revolution Is Coming by kozykid(m): 7:54pm On Nov 12, 2012 |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo By SaharaReporters, New York Unless the government of Nigeria takes urgent steps to arrest the menace of youth unemployment and poverty, it is a certainty that Nigeria will see a revolution soon. This dire prediction was made at the weekend by the country’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in a speech at a West African regional conference on youth employment in Senegal, sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the African Development Bank. The former president said that the rate of youth unemployment in 1999 when he assumed office was 72 per cent, but was reduced to 52 per cent [by his government] in 2004, only to rocket up again, to 71 per cent by 2011. Obasanjo, who left office in 2007 after eight years, declared he fears for the future of Nigeria. “I’m afraid, and you know I am a General. When a General says he is afraid, that means the danger ahead is real and potent,” he told the conference. He said that the unemployment menace is responsible for the social crimes being perpetrated by various categories of youth, categorizing three of them as Area Boys, Yahoo Boys and Blackberry Boys. Obasanjo, who is himself often accused of being behind some of Nigeria’s most severe problems, including the same unemployment predicament and foisting bad successors on the country, accused the current government of lacking “serious, concrete, realistic, short and long term solution” to youth unemployment. He drew attention to doctorate degree holders who were recently found to have applied for jobs as drivers at the Dangote Group as an example of the problem, saying the patience of the youth will soon reach its limit. Delving into the genesis of the crisis, he said that government officials in Nigeria talk of growth but not development, a phenomenon he said has led the rise in poverty levels. He urged national leaders to create incentives that will encourage entrepreneurs to flourish, particularly in agriculture, a sector in which he called for special attention to agriculture as business as opposed to mere farming. The former president, who has been largely successful in agriculture, although Nigerians say he took advantage of his position in government, called for easy access to land and micro credit, as well as a review of school curriculum for undergraduates to spend an additional year in school to learn entrepreneurship. Obasanjo’s remarks are guaranteed to lead to harsh criticism in Nigeria because he single-handedly put into play the machinery that put President Jonathan, whom he is criticizing, in power. In addition to Jonathan’s incompetence, the current government is also known to be very corrupt, an ailment Obasanjo studiously avoids talking about |
