Foreign AffairsRe: South Africa Police Chief Blames Nigerians For South African Drug Problems by kpolli(m): 2:17pm On Dec 15, 2009
RSA:
I am happy with our Minister's tough talk, this tough talk didn't start only with this drug bust.Since his appointment crime has gone down, they have a policy that say when they're facing harden criminals they will shoot to kill. This might be normal to you,but in South Africa police where not allowed to shoot to kill, and where encouraged not to be trigger happy, that is why criminals could get away with murders.

Nigerians who are not in South Africa have the right to be angry at what the minister is saying, but those who live in RSA will know that there is a certain population of Nigerians, and maybe with other western Africans who are making their money in illegal drug businesses.I have friends who are Nigerians, they all know what some of their countrymen are doing, and they don't like it.They know this is tarnishing their image.

Crime is done by mostly South Africans and that is what we expect,I mean where can they do their crime if not in their country? But on the other side,it's going to be a big thing if a non South African commit crime in South Africa, meaning you'll understand if your child steals your money in the house, than a neighbour's child doing it.You'll make more noise about it than your child.I don't know if I'm making sense.

I personally have twice experienced robberies, first in a McDonald rrestauranta group of six guys told us all to lay face down on the floor, they cleared the tills, and some where taking our cellphones, wallets and other valuables,I could hear them talking among themself in Shona, which is a Zimbabwean language.
Second one was in our golf club house in the evening, they did the same thing but the guys where all talking Zulu but two where ccommunicatingin Ndebele from Zimbabwe, which means it was a combination of two,SA and Zim gang.

There fore I'm not saying Zimbabweans are the one responsible for most our crime, but I'm saying there is some Zimbabweans who commit crime in South Africa. And it's not only my two incidents but go to our prison, you'll find all nnationalitiesthere, oobviouslymajority are South Africans.

Go to Zimbabwe,Botswana,Kenya,Nigeria or any other African country and tell me the number of South Africans in their prison who are arrested for any crime.
Yes we have rapist, murderers, highjackers and all sort but they're doing it in their country, and it's our problem, and we should sort it out,for ourself and our children. But it's difficult to tolerate a mercenary criminal.

So my aapologyto Nigerians, but you must understand our side as well, and the context this statement was quoted from.
guy pls i dont like that first part, u can call me ugly but dont call me a handicap,

shei all the ungrateful nigerians r reading,

You do not believe me because your cousin went to SA and an SA cleaner stole her jewelry. Does your statement exonerate Nigerians from the fact that we do drugs there? You do not need to believe me. Hotel workers steal all over the world! That's not news! My friend, I met some nigerians out there and I know what they told me. A friend gave me some traditional attires to hand over to his brother in SA. Trust me, i told him I was going to check every inch of the material. THIS I DID BEFORE TRAVELLING! When eventually I got there and called his brother on the phone number he gave, he came and picked up the items from my hotel. We had a drink at the bar and he left. Strangely enough, he called me the next evening to say he was at the hotel reception to see me. I went downstairs and found out that he came with another nigerian. I bought them drinks and they started narrating how they managed to get to SA by road. It took them 6months of hardship. They have no house. They claim to sleep in the small car they had. They acknowledged that I had a good job and that no condition is permanent bla bla bla. When they called me from the reception the next time they came I told the receptionist she should tell them i wasn't around.
still looking for the part that says they sell drugs, once went to dubai n was accused for te usua naija stuff only to find out that gang that caused the accusation were not nigerians but cos they were black they assume we r one, naija is just suffering from the biggest black nation cos every bad thing is associate wit us, n i state again we r not the only scammers out there, chinese, libyans, lebanese, kenyans n even beninoisers as well,

It seems a lot of Nigerians do not accept the truth. Whenever issues are raised, instead of addressing them, we end up attacking persons. Are we saying it is a lie that we are into drugs and all sort of criminal activities in South Africa? Let us accept the truth! It will help us deal with the issues! I have visited South Africa a couple of times while on vacation. The first bad news I ever got about my Nigerian brothers was in the hotel where I lodged (can’t remember the name of the hotel again but it was in Sandton city). It was from the kitchen staff!!!!!!! They wanted to know if I was American. I answered in the negative and told them I was a Nigerian. And they started whispering…the next comment they made was that Nigerians love flashy cars. Ignorantly and proudly I told them that a typical Nigerian can save all his salary for 2yrs just to buy the best car. They disagreed and told me that in SA, they do drugs! On that same trip, I was also made to feel as proud as a King! It was on an excursion to Nelson Mandela’s first house in Soweto. A small one-bed room apartment which he shared with his erstwhile wife, Winnie. It has actually turned into a tourist attraction. Amongst the tourists were people from virtually all parts of the world. I got to know because the guide asked for our nationalities. When he found out there were a few Nigerians amongst the crowd, surprisingly he told everybody to clap for Nigeria. I felt so proud. He told everybody how Nigerian workers contributed part of their salaries to fight the apartheid regime in South Africa. Everyone looked at us with envy.
On my second trip, I got to know of an area call HILLBROW (with lots of highrise buildings) in Jo’burg. It has become notorious for drug activities. To my utter disappointment majority of the occupants of the area are Nigerians. An average South African is SCARED of going there! If you drive through Hillbrow you would see young Nigerians hanging on the streets doing drug business like we see in the movies. The police raid the place regularly to no avail.

I was at the lobby of an hotel once reading the dailies when a white south African sitting next to me asked if I was an American. I proudly told him I was a Nigerian. He kept quiet for a few minutes and followed it up with questions. He wanted to know if I was based in SA, bla bla bla. He became comfortable with me when he found out I work in Nigeria and only came to SA on vacation. He was excited and started telling me all sorts. I was really surprised when he asked if I was from a particular section of Nigeria. I told him where I was from and stories continued. A ‘few’ bunch are really doing a lot of damage to our name. I feel really sad whenever I am subjected to all sorts of ‘special treatment’ just because I am a Nigerian.
yes it is a lie
my cousin went to SA and a south african cleaner in a hotel stole all her jewelry n guess wat her reasons were when the caught her, wat is a nigerian lady doing wit all that jewery, stop listening to news, its only negative, plus wait how do u know they r nigerianshuhi wont put it beyond south africans doing drugs to claim to b nigerians

I found it very disgusting when people dont accept their wrong doings and behavours. South Africa is not the only country to complain about the bad behaiour of Nigerians. How many Nigerians have been deported from Libya of recent and how many are on their death row. China is also having the same problem with Nigerians and so many other countries. I know that some good Nigerians are paying the price for all these but we should not blame these countries whenever they cry out about our bad behavours and the consequences of it to their respective countries.

South Africa is very correct and it is their right to protect their country and their people.
ur the dumbest slowpoke ever born, r u looking 4 SA visa that ur ass-kissinghuh we never sell drugs to ourselves finish we would go there to sell it, y do have the greatest problems n we dont have them here in our homeland,
if they said we brought fake goods there, i might accept cos we do that here, even if they had said we cheat i might accept but when u blame us for their drug problems, y dont we have it here? r u that foolish or u dont know wat ur brain can be used for?

its a crying shame on South Africa that they could come out and blatantly say that Nigeria is the source of their drug problem this just goes to show how deeply the plague of xenophobia has eaten into their system,

yet and still, we as Nigerians really need to face the problem that keeps biting us in the backside every day and every where we go, once you say you are a Nigerian in a foreign country, everybody stands at alert watching your every move, why? not because we are all thieves or we have all done wrong but we have to realize that the wrongs of a few will eventually tarnish the image of the majority.

this is not the time to start pointing fingers at any tribe and saying that he is igbo or she is that, we are ALL Nigerians, most foreigners don't even know the difference, they just see us as one- NIGERIAN and the earlier we recognize this , the better for us.

it wasn't too long ago that i posted a topic of a Nigerian student caught trying to smuggle cocaine into the UK through his stomach, why must it always be us? we need to ask ourselves this question. these little mishaps here and there reflect on all of us and if we do not curb this, it is all of us that would pay the price of stigmatization, criticism and discrimination, it is time for us to wake up and realize that we need a change, we would destroy our country and leave nothing for our generation to come if this continues,

We can make a change no matter how little if every one of us decide that within my own sphere of contact i will deal as justly with my fellow man as possible regardless of the differences we may possess, i believe a change will happen,

GOD BLESS NIGERIA
who said it only ushuh

its not today that South Africans blame Nigerians and other (African) foreigners for their woes. but such statement coming from a public figure is just too disappointing.

who the hell is he to generalize like that. i wont be surprised if he was one of the people that instigated the Xenophobic attacks of 2007. that shows how shallow minded some of these S.A people can be. its not new that authority figures over there are making dumb statements. . . imagine the president advising people to take showers after intercourse to prevent HIV/AIDS. shame embarassed
not some but all, n yes am generalizing
