TravelRe: Living In Lagos, Is It Worth It? by krisbobo(m): 12:18am On Oct 29, 2007
@poster and All

What! You can ask? you can actually ask that is living in Lagos worth it? Gosh, what on earth is wrong with you ppl? where else on the planet is worth living if not Lagoshuh

Where else do you get the rare pleasure of being held in traffic on a normal day fo hrs, giving you the oppurtunity to reflect on life, nature, the beauty of a shared Molue or that even an air-conditioned gave becomes boribg after 4 hrs of stagnation on one spot?

Where else, in what mega city do you find the perfect blend of squalor and wealth? can anybody be exclusively elite in Lagos? for where, na the same go slow dey catch us all!!!!! have you sen the filth in Lekki and Ajah? Can any city compete with lagos on building mega structures and the systematically ruining them with filth generously donated by every passing vehicle, public or private?

Not live in lagos? God forbid!! what would my life be without area boys? Ha, to spend a day without being called chairman? Yeepa, no freaking way! Tuale, o le nu bi kettle!!!

Where else will you run into a policeman wearing bathroom slippers? or have policemen arrest girls for alledged prostitution and then take them to the police station and summarily rape them and have their families pay like 20k to bail them? or have the police arrest people for indecent dressing and the governor and police commissioner know nothing about ithuh

Leave lagos for we o. After all, eko o ni baja!!!!
Christianity EtcRe: I Do Not Believe in God by krisbobo(m): 11:16pm On Oct 28, 2007
The fanatical assertion of the existence of God is as inimical to true human interelation and development as the fanatical assertion of the non-existence of God. Whether God exists and is worthy of worship or not is a biased opinion; not that there's anything wrong with biased opi ions. What would the world be without them grin and as Oscar Wilde as said "All opinions are biased and any unbiased opinion is useless".

It is, in general terms, unimportant to me whether anyone believes in the existence of God or not. I believe in a superior power, I do not believe that God exists; I KNOW that a superior power exists beyond me. Don't ask me to prove it; I can't. There is no empirical evidence that God or such superior power exists. But remember, you cannot also prove, empirically, that God or a suoerior power does not exist.

What's the sense in all this? once again we are seeking that which drives us apart rather than that which draws us together. Please not that I am actually perfectly irreligious; though brought up as a christian I left the \church 14 years ago and my life has been better for it. But that's my story and that of another will naturally be different. That this has worked for me is no guarantee that it will work for someone else. I have found my and not the. There are many paths that lead to God. Claiming God exclusively is a sign of smallness indeed.

Let us remember that all of the pains and destruction that humans have inflicted on other humans largely come from one source: those that, while holding a belief refuse others the right to hold a contrary one.

May it please the cosmic to continue to grant us all wisdom and understanding.

Peace Profound.

TV/MoviesRe: Must We Produce All Episodes Of Our Sitcom At Once? by krisbobo(m): 6:21pm On Oct 19, 2007
@ Seun

I'm just seeing this now. We have talked on another thread before and you know about me and and the little things I have done in this line.

First advice: I hope you started marketing the sitcom from the script. What I mean is that I hope the scripting was done in a way that is will make the sitcom marketable to a Nigerian audience. this is crucial and sadly, it is missed by many who venture intoproduction. If you want, send me an episode of the sitcom and i'll let you know my thoughts.

secondly: Take that director's advice; it is safer and cheaper to shoot 13 eps rather than 3. See, dont trust too much the opinion of ad agencies. sponsorship is not always by quality of the programme. Those guys most times give ads to people who are willing to give them a cut irrespective of the quality of the programme. dont fall into this pit; it is self-distructive on the long run.

@ crazy T: I do not have 20 years experience in the industry but i know for sure that the era of NBL giving a soap 28million is certainly over. spot ads is the in thing now as you can see from the diff ads on soaps today.

Basically seun, nobody is gonna give u 28million!

Take a look at the diff soaps on TV today. we all agree that many are crap but have u noticed that some of the crappiest ones are the ones with the most ads? That should tell you something about how ads are given these days. Its one of two ways: get in bed with the ad guys, give them a large cut and you will get ads for ur sitcome. Or fund your prog for a while without compromising and you will attract the ads when the companies see that you have a large following and they have something to gain.

Let me give you some advice as given to me by my directing teacher, someone you all know very well:

1. never work with stars; work with artistes.
2. pay Attention To Details( ATD)
3. Dont compromise on your vision
4. Know the demography of the nigerian Tv audience: women and children are the ones who really watch soaps and stuff so include them in tour story.
5.entertain, dont preach
6.respect your audience, never take them for granted. its because of them that you are getting sponsorship!
7. a bad script will never make a good film.

I rest for now. Pls mail me shamanmomoh@yahoo.com. if there's anything i can do to help i will be glad to.

By the way, who is this writer-director? Let me know his name privately so I can say what i know about his/her capabilities if I know.

Take care bro.

Poems For ReviewRe: 'Funky Patient': Screenplay For A Short Film by krisbobo(m): 3:06pm On Oct 06, 2007
Dear Seun, so sorry your feelings were hurt. If you know me you'll know I never want to do that. Maybe I worded my writings wrongly but my intensions are genuine.

I am not an expert myself; I am still learning. In fact, although I have written scripts, I do not see myself primarily as a screenwriter, rather I am more interested in story construction and directing.

What I was trying to suggest is the need for you to have some training and since you say you're a learner then you are on the right course. If you want, I can help with that. My teacher just got a licence for a film school from the federal govt. When we have put together the corriculum we'll start formal training; this would not be later than Nov 2007. I will put the information here on Nairaland in a couple of weeks from now.

You obviously have talent and nobody is perfect and the last thing I want to do is discourage you at this early stage.

Once again my apologies. I didnt point out specifics in your script 'cos a few people had done that.
All the best. Remember, I am here if you or anyone needs a hand.

Let's just say that I have worked as a professional actor (trained on stage) for the past ten years; I have my hands in some of the fairly successful Television dramas as both story consultant and screenwriter and am currently undergoing training as a director with the person who's probably the most successful screenwriter (with over 1000 television scripts) and director ( this person as just about 5 films but they are regarded as classic Nigerian films)in the country.

satisfied sir?

This is a difficult choice for me. I have a 1st & 2nd degree in Literature so I naturally have had to read a lot of books!

But guess what, i am choosing a non-literary book.

Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence people is the book that turned my life around in many ways and set me on the path to becoming the person I'd always wanted to be. So I guess that's the got to be the one!
Poems For ReviewRe: 'Funky Patient': Screenplay For A Short Film by krisbobo(m): 11:41pm On Oct 03, 2007
@Seun

I hope you can take this in good faith Seun. I do not know what your background in filmmaking is, so this is me being very careful in what I'm saying.

That script is not great. truth be told, it is not really good. As others have pointed some of the core inadequacies, I wouldn't bother again.

From the script length, this is like a 5 minute film, even less. Contrary to what many people think, short films are the most difficult to write. You script lacks the precision to hold an audience and it also lacks the writing style that would make it engaging.

Above all, the story was not well thought out which is why points such as where they met before, what relationship existed btw them and the predictable nature of the end, came about.

Please dont shoot that script without proper rewrite. As any good writer will tell you, writing is rewriting and pre-writing is writing.

If you haven't got any trainig in sreeenwriting, get some. Let me know about this so I can help.

If you can, get a copy of Robert Mckee's Story it's a great book for understanding story construction.

Do take care.
"God, y u allow homosexuals and lesbians still dey sleep dey wake up everyday?"

Because He loves them as much as he loves you; because, contrary to what we think, they are his children too.

@tammie10

To those who have questions about the loss of loved ones, here's my 2 cents
the rain falls on both the good and the bad
It was and is still probably very painful,
Life is a roller coaster, highs and lows, wins and losses, huge highs and low lows,
However, the make up of human beings allows us to learn from adversity and become stronger,
The sufferings and losses we experience here remind us that the world we live in is not perfect, it is in fact very messed up,
Let me take this further Tammie10.

I do not know how it feels to love a mother at 45 or a dear sister or a loved one, so i cannot say i undersatnd how it feels. However, maybe it would help all of us if we understand the what exactly it means to die. Let me say right from the outset that this is my opinion of life and death and I am not trying to impose or even suggest it to anybody.

When we exit the cionfines of the flesh, we do not exactly die. Death is an inappropriate term for what happens when we cease to .breathe. if we understand that our dearly departed ones actually arise to other activities, then may be we would not agonise to deeply when we lose loved ones.

For example, Don Jazzie, if you knew that your mum's soul is living somewhere in another body and that she is as lovely there as she was with you and that she is bringing joy to some ppl as she brought to you and your family, while you may still miss her do you at least smile in the knowledge that she somewhere happy? i don't know if this helps but pls find solace in a truth that when we shed the the garment of the flesh, all is not over.

Christianity EtcRe: Two Women I Love Dearly Are Leaving Their Marriages by krisbobo(m): 1:13pm On Sep 18, 2007
In my experience, I have often found out that those who present a 'we-are-so-in-love' face in public are those who have the bigger problems. It seems to me as if the more you are willing to show outside that you are in love the less you guys are truly in love. I may be wrong and if I'm am willing to admit so. But often times I have realised that those who are truly happy have less need to emphasis the fact in public. Happiness just sits on their faces without any effort and they are comfortable in their silences.

When I woman talks endlessly, in public to the earing of all gathered, about how wonderful her spouse is it is often, for me, a sign of something terribly wrong; a sort of longing on her part for acceptance and recognition.

A single or divorced woman, I think, is more productive and beneficial to society than one in a bad marriage or an abused relationship.

Lastly, may we all learn to lower our expectations from ppl a little bit? See, no matter how anointed a person is, he/she is first and foremost a human being and his therefore susceptible to the failings that accompany being human. Whether pastor or not; whether anointing is dripping from the peres on like rain or waterfall; pls know that that person is human and at one point or the other will have failings!

May it please the God of our hearts and understanding to grant that our lives may be happy and fruitful, in spite of the faillings we posses as humans.

@seun 001, centaur,blacnite1

and all those who have given constructive criticism, big ups for u all. that the way to go, thats the spirit. I cannot for the life of me understand all those who would make blanket statements based on loose facts. this is a show that's going to last another one week, yet ppl are so sure that Nigerian dances wouldn't feature. Haven't you ppl heard of saving the best for last?

And so what if the judges are unknown? who said they have to be known to know their stuff? have you guys bothered to read their profiles on the maltina danceall site? some even said that 2 of them were too young! Abeg, must they be mettuselah to be knowledgeable? if to say na oyinbo now dem no go talk say e too young o!

Who said the presenter was boring? must she be bubbly to be interesting? i admit that she may be a little conservative ( she's from NTA!!) but remember its a family show and the organisers will naturally look for someone who'll be present a slightly more mature persona than a bubbly character jumping up and down.

And did I hear that Kaffy should have been a judge?? Good God! isn't it obvious that Kaffy is branded by Nokia and cannot associate with a different brand? I mean that is not rocket science is it? Besides, apart from Hip hop, what other dances have you seen Kaffy do? so, what qualifies her as a judge?

Obviously, the show has not been perfect, but what show is? there's room for improvement and we should point the organisers towards that.

I will not be one to call for censorship. freedom of speech is a right and must be respected. but let us all remember; you can only have the moral justification to condemn only after you have praised.
