A few days ago, Joshua Agboola, a young programmer, speaker on technology topics, and YouTuber, added another medal to his list of achievements, by becoming the youngest Certified Amazon Web Services Cloud Practitioner in Africa at the age of 13, after passing the AWS Cloud Practitioner test. Cloud services are infrastructure, platforms, or software that are hosted by third-party providers and made available to users through the internet.

When asked what inspired him to accomplish this feat, Joshua responded: “I had known for a while that Cloud Computing was one of the growing areas of the IT sector and one of the defining technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution. But its importance became very visible to me when I had to employ MongoDB, on one of the Artificial Intelligence projects I was working on. MongoDB is a document-oriented database for high-volume storage. It provided flexibility, and the ability for data storage of different volumes because it was cloud-based. This got me curious to study more about the cloud. However, it was my dad who encouraged me to go deeper in my search for knowledge about the Cloud and take on this exam, and I gladly accepted the challenge.”

On why he chose the AWS route to get certified, Joshua explained: “Amazon is the current leader in the Cloud Computing space, followed by Microsoft’s Azure and Google Cloud. I decided to follow the leader because I believe AWS will continue to dominate the space for years to come. Besides, I found that there was quite an awesome amount of training resources from Amazon itself, and from other members of the cloud community on AWS Cloud certifications that made the learning and certification journey easier for me ”

When asked what next after the certification, Joshua explained that he wanted to apply the knowledge he had acquired from AWS to the projects he is currently working on. “I want to utilize my knowledge from the Cloud Practioner certification to ensure that I can engage the cloud in the most cost-effective way for my AI projects.” He further revealed that he desires to play in the DevOps Engineering space, and aspires to own a Cloud Technology company sometime in the future.

CU-Ota Tech Expo 1.0 team has announced Friday 27th – Saturday 28th March 2020 as the date for the tech summit, conference, and exhibition. Unveiling the conference yesterday, Bayo Agboola the Co-Chair of the LOC, revealed that the Tech Summit is a first of its kind “Gown and Town” partnership between Covenant University and the Ota community where the institution is located represented by the Olota-FECODEIN.
The Olota-FECODEIN is an initiative of the Olota of Ota, HRM (Prof) Adeymi Obalanlege, for the economic empowerment of youths of the town. He informed that the industrial town of Ota has been known for many exploits and firsts in the education sector and the business sector. It’s now time for these to be iterated to transforming Ota to a hub for tech and innovation. “It is our desire to inform, prepare, equip and empower young people for this and the future to come that has led to the establishment of the CU-Ota Tech Expo 1.0.”

The CU-Ota Tech Expo 1.0 is designed to profile emerging transformational technologies and their expected impact on people’s lives, their work, the business they do and the community they live in. Over 1000 participants from both gown and town will converge at Covenant University for this inaugural event. Student representatives from about 10 higher institutions in the Lagos and Ogun axis are also expected at the event.

Bayo Agboola revealed that it’s not going to be all talk. Subject-matter experts will also handle practical training workshops every day covering topics like Ai, VR, AR, Drone-tech, 3D printing, BIM 360, Web Authoring and more. There is also a Hackathon/Business Pitch session on 4.0 technologies with a handsome cash prize for higher institution students and an essay competition on the Summit Theme with a cash reward for secondary schools.

Joshua Agboola is a young programmer, future skills activist, and speaker on technology topics. He is the CEO/Chief Coder at Joshfortech a firm that seeks to provide web and app solutions to individuals and companies. He is also the trainer for a new YouTube channel called Joshfortech, where he teaches kids and adults technology and programming concepts in an easy and fun to learn way.

Joshua started coding at the age of 6. This is very impressive. WAEC Statistics show that girls did better than boys overall in the exam. Well, here is one brainy boy that has come to save the face of the menfolk. Jokes apart, we need to arrest the downward slide in the enrolment of boys in secondary schools compared to girls

The fees for part-time courses are the same as for full time courses. Most working class people who can't make the weekday programme opt for this.  Part-time programmes however take more time (e.g 3months for Fashion Design). Lectures hold Saturdays only.
