after much enquiry the dealer seem trying to play smart by selling her stocked cement. the price is still coming down more hopefully by the end of the week. the depot in ikeja looks real so you are not in hurry ,hope for better deal by weekend
exactly my guy, thats the plan, the price has to come down, I see GEJ as someone that really didnt steal money to build that his house in his village, I am sure he knows the true price of cement then and now, lets assume his conscience still pricks him

@ poster,  Mark my word and remember my comment here today,  you are in for a lengthy argument with this thread,

such argument was about coming up on the Mercedes Benz thread, but we tried everything not to derail that thread,

I must say well done for creating this thread,  its a good arena for such debate,

so where are the BMW enthusiasts?,

I thinks comments would be matured and better from someone that has used both vehicles,

I have driven a BMW 3 series just once, ,  I use a C class ,  so far its been fantastic, with the jist I hear from BMW owners as regards its suspension, I think thats really something to worry about owing to the terrain here in naija,  so for me, 1 point for Benz for that, grin grin cheesy cheesy

Changing the sensor can it be done by any electrician?

yes even by you,

The mileage of the car is 65K and as at when I bought the car I can use a #1000 fuel for 2days but now I use it for a day

that didnt really confirm your mpg, anyways since u know there's a difference in your consumption, just try what I suggested.
again, you may try to change your fuel filling station, our people could be desperate u know,  grin grin
,

I drive a Benz C- class, 4 cylinder, I can sometimes boast of 20-22 mpg for city driving, work to home distance on daily basis is average 22miles,  ( about 35 km) @ 22 mpg, it means I consume like 1 gallon of fuel for that purpose,  i.e approx 3.7ltres ,  = roughly N240-N250 per day,   grin grin grin

would u rather opt for a benz? lol,  just joking ,   but make sure u clean the throttle body very well, I am sure u would be good.
Car Talk › Re: 4-cylinder Engine Vs 6-cylinder Engine by kuntash: 9:42am On May 20, 2011
I dont want to test-drive a 6-cylinder engine yet, I know it would be quite an experience.

I respect them on the road especially @ the initial take off time. , I dont think I can be confused by any mechanic on the issue of 6 or 8 cylinder engines.

moreover, there are nuff gurus on nairaland, you can get info here and tell your mechanic what to do, if you are in lagos, try to avoid inexpensive repairs, just do a replacement, its often better.

I would continue to say as I have said in similar threads, "if you do not maintain a simple power generator well, its likely you would mess up a 4-5-6-8-10 or 12 cylinder engines"

you would pity some engines when some car owners open their hood, dirty as anything, check the oil, its almost green cos after black it tends to green , lol ,

so consider these things my guy, Niaja no dey make motor, no car wey no good period!

and the result of the scan has something to do with catalytic converter and it was erased. Is that the cause of the fuel consumption? Thanks for your help
what was the code you got from the scan?

after the "check engine" light was erased, has it come back on since then?

often time the oxygen sensor attached to the converters could be the culprit, if its faulty, it could be sending wrong signals to the ECM most likely telling it to pump more fuel, try get another sensor an clean your throttle head thoroughly ,  then revert back,

lest I 4get, can u be more specific on the consumption nature of the car? , what is the current mpg?

Hello guys, am planning of buying 1999 mercedes e class, some
mechanics said i should never go near 6 cylinders that 4
cylinders are better. I have a choice of e200 that is 4 cylinders
and e240 or e320 that is 6cylinders. Please advise me
considering i do more of city driving.
when u poorly manage a four cylinder of any car, it would mess u up as well,

lately many people go for 6-cylinder cars, the reason I think is ,, u seem to drive effortlessly , u feel the engine is working optimally with little force as opposed to 4-cylinder.

forget those mai mai comments by some mechanics, if they have no competence in repairing a 6-cylinder engine, they should speak up rather than condemning it, if I have my way, I would replace my 4-cylinder with a straight 6-cylinder engine,

From ur response its like you are already considering what ur mechanics said, just be wise, good luck

they have not even seen me, its an estate agency, , bought the land like 2yrs ago have paid the allocation fee,

I would have to ask them the question of omonile, or better still would engage them to do the foundation and charge back,

the total cost of the amenities according to them hovers around 1.4M for each of the plot owners,

I just want to know whether anyone has bought into such estate owned and managed by a coy b4,

I am worried cos if I have 1M now I can take my small project u guys inspired me to start to roofing level, grin grin

Am Alone:
Yes finishing accessories has a part to play! but you know
a house with 2 toilet will need more than two tippers of sand compared to just two set of WC!
Again like I said, cost of labour @ that stage will make up for those things!
woods to will be cheaper in Ibadan! Carpenters to do wood works will be cheapers
to fix the aluminum will be cheaper. The aluminum may come out expensive, but the cost of fixing
is sure to be cheaper! Aluminum it is cheaper in Lagos, but to install it in Lagos is on the high side. Again
some things like wood for roofing in Lag, the cost is expensive the fixing too is expensive
So as a result, location still matters!
grin
Peace!
hmmmm, I really would have to read many of these costs again in these locations to learn more,

just to digress a little, does omonile etc affect plots of land bought by way of all these estate developers ?

I am asking because, I have been asked to pay 1M for devt fee after the initial land payment and legal and allocation fees , dem say na for roads, light, sewage etc construction in this estate, (outskirt of eko) , my question is , does Omonile affect such estate owners , also is this how its always done?
Properties › Re: The Real Cost Of Building A Six Bedroom Duplex by kuntash: 2:37pm On May 18, 2011
Am Alone:
Mr. 'Tash!
What I will say, for me is not about the bargain, it is about the cost of materials at the location. and cost of labour! Ok?
For example, granite is brought all the way from ibadan to Lagos
and in Lagos it sell for 125k(30ton)
Now check out Busayowole quotation, you see the same 30ton granite goes for 96k or so!
and check out the cost of sand! Here its 22k at worst for 10ton!
So the main factor I believe is the materials for constructions.
If you are very much around, you can easily get the pricing for certain things like labor cost!
like a day's work for bricklayer in Ikorodu - 2k5 and carpenter - 3k
but labor in Ibadan is cheaper than lagos so cost of construction their is sure to be very low!

peace
it used to be Puntash, why TASH now?, take time O, I prefer the Puntash, but I AM DEFINITELY NOT ALONE, grin grin

wrt the total cost of building , dont u think finishing as accessories a could be cheaper in Lagos?
that should be considered as well, people travel down to lagos to buy items as tiles, electrical materials, toiletries etc, abi no be so?, is this not added to the total cost of erecting a house?

@busayowole,that's too excessive,i have been to ibadan n d land out there is very solid.some areas do have stones like d mountain stone, u will have to break them when doing the foundation.i will suggest about 500k will be more than enough.my bro,d best thing u can do is to come on ground n do it yourself, trust me d money u think u will be saving from plane ticket n d initial lost of income while u r home will be nothing compared to d amount u will lose from ppl taking u 2 d cleaners, shine your eyes, everyone comes off as holier than thou in d formative stages, along d way u will see their true color but it might be too late then, shine your eyes
Bros are u sure of the estimate u are giving this man?  cheesy cheesy cheesy

try and read Mr Alone and Brabus costing first O,  so the guy wont fly down and still near the estimate given,

although the issue of location plays over 30% of total cost of building a house. I could recall trying to match Spyder's cost at the early stage, I couldnt even though I was there through out, that is not to say I got it right, but I think experience and power of bargaining plays a vital role too. afterall we are dealing with human beings not machines all the way,

I could also remember when spyder was waiting patiently for water @ his site, if it was me or some other person, I am sure we might opt for bore hole or dig a well immediately which eventually would beef up the cost.

Experience- Location- taste - kinda house, these are factors that plays out in building a house, these are what I learned from this thread, its not totally about adding one plus two to make three.
Properties › Re: The Real Cost Of Building A Six Bedroom Duplex by kuntash: 12:12pm On May 18, 2011
Spyder I seem to agree with you and Diordaves, especially where he said, giving them a fixed no of blocks,  this could check the excess speed bound to lead to error.

I however, cannot implore that tactics since I am planning to mold blocks,  but its like they charged me N2500 for 100 blocks or so,

ah!! ,  thats cheaper,  compared to Diordaves' ,  but why is this really so?

Spyder do you pay that much per block laying in your place? also whats the update on this 6 bedroom duplex project that started FEB 2011?
Properties › Re: Average Number Of Blocks For A 4 Bedroom Bungalow by kuntash: 12:02pm On May 18, 2011
Dereformer:
1) Can a plot of land contain 4 bedroom bungalow?

2) what is the average number of blocks required for a 4 bedroom bungalow?

3) What is the standard measure for a plot of land?
although u didnt state you location of choice for this project,

I think the size of a plot of land differs from location to location, in Lagos for example, its different from many other locations, they say a Plot is 60ft by 120ft, whereas elsewhere they say a standard plot is 100ft by 100ft,

All these also depends on the size of ur bungalow, if its the average room sizes of 16 x 12, Master 15 x 13 Living room 22 X 20, etc , it would be able to sit on a 60ft by 50ft comfortably

Nos of blocks should be approximately 4000, good luck,

Why would some1 be pouring insults like that , I saw where he insulted you Spyder, and I was vexed, cos as many dey for My Dear Mr Alone, na so plenty too dey for you, thats why I dey propose separating the posts and ideas, the topic is looking vague wrt comments and contributions.

I have been reading comments on this thread right from page one, and I enjoin anyone that feels he or she could make any meaningful contribution to be patient and read thru the posts from pages 1-48, before making any input, and not just start talking we should not correct smthn that is derailing the thread all for the sake of "we have all gained from the thread"

if you have time to spend on the internet MEANINGFULLY, I tell u , you would gain from anywhere,

I have told Mr Alone b4, in such a forum where you have liberty to read and contribute irrespective of whether person get boku money or just dey manage, it would not be easy to always potray an impression say everyone has money or who cannot get a building up to his taste is compromising quality etc, when u are in a country where many are far below poverty lines and have access to read those posts, IT WILL SURE INFURIATE MANY, (i.e assuming nigerians alone read n contribute)

his intention might not be so, but the way and manner MR Alone drives home his point would make some people have an impression he is feeling superior , this would always make people react, I am refering to an average decent Nigerian of today,

it would also be adequate to state that you must not post anything to learn from a thread,

Thanks to NAIRALAND and Spyder.

@ Kuntash-- though i believe the essence of the thread have been defeated but it's now too late to say we should concentrate on the topic 'The Real Cost Of Building A Six Bedroom Duplex' cos we have lots of pple making good contributions like brabus, Am alone, Omobashua1 & co, also given us insight into what it takes to build a house irrespective of the type; so when i say we should continue & remain focused, i simply mean we should be confined our discussion to the subject matter (HOUSE/BUILDING TALKS). Thank you
I appreciate your trying to lessen the insults and derailment of this thread,  but as it goes this is nairaland,  there is a mega folder called properties under the General folder of the forum,  the reason Seun the owner of nairaland made it so is to distinguish different topics even though they may be related,  else we get it all mixed up,  there are posts/comments made by Spyder etc, that one needs to fetch easily as relates to this topic, but u would discover that its damn difficult to trace due to irrelevant posts,

I have a thread in AUTO section, there was smthn that led to it, I noticed, there are more SALES! SALES!! and SALE!!!,  I decided to do smthn different and initiated a Mercedes Benz thread: and it was featured in the front page of Nairaland for a while after bringing it to the notice of the site owner,  and people do contribute to it and its strictly based on the subject matter, it is like that in every subject, why is this one different?

bottom line:--- getting all ideas, experiences, contributions in building a house in a single titled subject would bring chaos ,  if not now , sure in the near future mark my word,
