Hi Trac, whats ur take on the straight 6 cylinder C class? I still like this model of cars cos maintenance is kinda cheap.

do you think the newer models are like these "almost free maintenance" range of 1994-1999 ?

I am interested in going for 1999 C280, pls whats ur take?

@ all, especially Brabus, Spyder & Mr Alone, I have a serious question for you guys as it relates to Lintel & German floor.

- is there any disadvantage in doing a chain-like Lintel round the building?
- is a German floor compulsory for a simple twin 3-bedroom flat? (not storey building) or better put, if I dont do German floor and decides to proceed, what could go wrong? (whether house is for lease or not)

pls guys kindly advice cos I am getting conflicting responses from the people I left my small project with,

I am most likely to go with ur advice here, so pls respond,

in all, its fair to deduce that an average decent 3 or 4 bedroom bungalow can be finished with 4M excluding cost of land purchase in Lagos as @ today,

am I right or right?

Kudos to you on your bungalow you have built to your taste, and as you can see, lots of people are happy for you. Note however, just as you stated, my point has always been that whatever u are building should not be imposed on others and potraying you alone knows the best quality and all that, that perception as about u as seen by many was the issue, (or is it because of ur nickname "u r alone?"wink

I recall people even suggested getting big time construction companies to do their houses, it has to do with CHOICE, and no one has the right to condemn others , e.g you put an expensive toilet fittings in ur house doesnt mean the common ROYAL brand sold in the market would not last or flush out ur rubbish ,

and I have always wanted you to start your thread so one can easily pick ideas from urs and spyder instead of clogging it all together, huh huh huh

A Voltage of 5.2 was confirmed on the wires connecting d socket feeding d valve. I also tested d valve by disconnecting d socket n attempting to suck air as d actuator would, but it was blocked whereas with d socket it, it was free,

Let me not jump d gun yet, but I think my mpg might be enhanced after all I ve just done. Just filled my tank 3 days ago and has done 39miles already, let's see how d week goes, would refill again by wkd to calculate d mpg.

I ve not own or driven a Honda b4, but the internet says that code is related to an oil pressure switch, I am worried for you about ur mechanic, the engine would obviously be too complicated for him,

just search for the repair manual online, look for the switch , if possible , replace. then rescan , also ask ur mechanic to clean ur throttle head with this spray cleaners, he should open the air inlet vacuum and clean thoroughly,,, this might help with ur fuel consumption, there are also some injector cleaners u pour inside ur tank in a bid to cleaning ur nozzles , it has worked for me, best of luck

Car Talk › Dealing With Issue Of Engine Temperatures In Tokunbo Vehicles by kuntash(op): 7:59pm On Apr 25, 2011
Dear Nairaland , I wish to start this thread due to the incessant reports from car users and mechanics alike complaining about high temperatures in the engine, when a tokunbo vehicle begins another life here in Naija.

I appreciate we do not manufacture vehicles here in naija, neither am I claiming to be a guru, But my opinion about this temperature issue has to do with so many things ranging from all the cooling systems,

- Radiator (leaking, extremely dirty)
- Water pump (how efficient it circulates the cooling fluid/water)
- Neatness of your car engine (how often do you blast those caked mud, mixed with grease etc off ur car especially around the combustion chamber?)
- How effective is your cooling fan? (usually works via a relay)

these are some of the issues that should be considered and checked before allowing that mechanic to start dismantling your water pump, radiator, fan etc.

I have used both Japanese and a Benz, and would like to share my experience on these, for the Japanese, I have never had any issue with over heating, in fact I nearly made a mistake when out of curiosity and ignorance of my mechanic, removed my thermostat , after using car for some 6months I have to put back the thermostat because I realized I was wasting fuel, because the engine was never attaining its optimum temperature to burn efficiently.

for the Benz, due to my ignorance about how that great car is, I didn't know the water in the radiator was almost empty, even though the temp shot up, so I had serious over-heating problem, the water pump failed , etc etc,

luckily it didn't damage the gasket, so far so good I have dealt with the whole issue, the car I bought naija used with AC cooling fan connected directly as many would have it, was reversed to factory setting, the thermostat was replaced with the accurate rating of 87deg C. as against the 71 deg C sold as new or just removing it ,

the manufacturers says the working temp of that engine is 87 deg C, and the fan automatically kicks in @ 100 deg C, even at over 90 Deg C, the book says all is well with d engine, so far I have saved fuel and the temphas never reached 100deg C even @ serious lag traffic and have not driven my toyota for a while, lol

WHATS UR STORY ON UR CAR TEMP? lets have ur own, SO OTHERS CAN LEARN FROM IT

Some people expect their tires to last 100,000 miles
grin grin

I would test the wires feeding the valve to confirm current gets there, if it does, I would end my quest on this issue for now , Just on d basis of ur statement that if it ticks, it means it could be faulty, pls correct me if I am wrong. I have swapped d valve with another, but same scenario, NO tick.
Thanks all the same. I really do appreciate.
Car Talk › Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash(op): 11:19pm On Apr 23, 2011
Thanks alot Trac and Sultaan, so far so good I have done the following,

- replaced the thermostat to its original, ,  87 deg-C
- replaced the oil and filter
- cleaned the throttle body with the spray cleaner

the plugs loked very good and no issues,

WHAT HAPPENED AFTER ^^^

the RPM moved up to 1.2k,  had to readjust the module at the actuator to its original state, cos it was increased when I noticed the engine wasnt running well

I also noticed quicker response as I drive

The RPM doesnt drag down that much again even on load,

feel a little relieved,,, but one more thing TRAC,  PLEASE WHERE IS TERMINAL 87 FEEDING THE PCVhuh

maybe this might just help further if it that PCV works

why I am bothered with all thesehuh grin grin grin      simple! , I believe an engine can work the way it was designed to perform optimally!

If so, its not really a very big house and I must admit, finishing do consume a lot of money. But I should think that N10-11m can do a house to that your current stage, including the fence and gate house.
Spyder, for u to cost it @ 10-11million and the owner says he has spent 13m or so, I think its a fair deal, cos I tried challenge ur cost when I wanted to start my foundation, I realized I no near u @ all even though I was there thru out and monitored it all thru,

Note that there are some tiles that are quite expensive, like those granite tiles, the sitting room alone could cost over a million just to fix such tiles,

Nobody lives in the house now, the survivors who obviously were born in that old house are the occupiers of that newer house beside it with green roof. But my point is that the house could last this long without collapsing even as no modern materials were used to build the house. I will not sleep inside even if them pay me 1 milla cheesy grin
Spyder, you get those buildings in ancient cities across naija, its more evident in the ancient city of Benin,  before the bypass to the east was constructed, when coming from Lagos to the east, most of those buildings you see along the road in the town are built with such sand,  though not duplex, and people still live in them, in fact renting shops there na hotcake, some span over a hundred yrs old,  but the colour of the sand is always very red,  deep red, or should I call it deep dark wine colour,

in those days they even paint them with sand and water to form a milky mixture,   the same sand is used in the old days to make local oven for bakery,  and many more,  its a tough susbstance I guess,

if you give me 50k, put a bed in that place with light, and mosquito net I would sleep there for a night, the 50k is for inconveniencing my family,  lol grin grin

seriously, I'm certain that building as u see it can go for another 20yrs,

Some MB models don't have Air Meters. I hope I am right with what I highlighted on your picture. I can't see it clearly.
if that is a fact, I am sure my engine model belongs to this category. unless otherwise its cloned with the throttle body.

about PCV or regeneration valve,, the hose end connects to a charcoal canister near the fuel tank, I really wish to know what it does and how it operates, I agree with the earlier posts I copied from the URL attached, its like a vacuum that opens and allow fuel vapour to enter the engine via that inlet on the throttle body, and it does this at intervals to balance load or smthn.
As at now I cant get a pulse from this device while engine is working.

thanks for ur response ,

I ve not had time to clean up the engine - change oil and plugs (if I get a good one), put back the original thermostat. when I do hopefully by the weekend, I would update this forum

thanks
Car Talk › Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash(op): 10:35am On Apr 18, 2011
Hi Trac n all,  in a bid to solving this irregular rpm nightmare @ idle,  I have gone thru some responses online on how the regeneration valve works and its purpose.

here,

The valve pulses 6/7 BPM so that when it is activated, the engine does not get a large gulp of intake air that would be more than the engine could handle all at once without effecting Engine Management controls, [ ie, the ECU would read it as a lean condition vac leak b/c this air is unmetered intake air supply] , the pulsing gets rid of that problem by letting a little in at each pulse.

Every time it pulses , it opens and closes, it does this few times a sec [ htz].
so the flow is actually controlled as to not allow a big gulp of canister vapors all at once. It only does this when the ECU sends a signal to do so.

source:- http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?p=1563128

I just cut the responses with much meaning ,  I would appreciate if anyone could explain further,

remember its a benz forum,  lest I 4get Trac, where u able to get the contact details of the mechanic in Lagos?

thanks Trac for d doc,

Trac:
To be honest, I had doubts if you'd comprehend the first page of the attachment since its senseless to the unsavvy but you have started.
u r right about this.

I dont seem to know where to find the air mass meter in my engine model, I see this device in some other engines attached in line with the air intake chamber, but in my engine model, its not so as you can see from the pic.

I would like to totally agree with you on the temperature required for optimum engine performance, because the car works and moves better when on traffic @ temp above 80degC. ,  When I change the thermostat I would give u update.

That valve I showed in that pic was termed regeneration valve on MB forum (MBWorld.org), I dont know what its really called, just as I explained, I dont think that vacuum is working or perhaps power is not reaching it, I still feel strongly that if all is well with that vacuum, it might just resolve my puzzle, because when the hose to it is removed, the engine rpm moves up and the engine sound increases,
