Family › Re: Speak Correct English: All Toothpaste is not Maclean by kurlarday: 1:40pm On Jul 18, 2015 |
Phonetikkks: Hello Family! Hope all is well with you?
Some common phrases I've heard people say that are quite hilarious (I must say). Please avoid confusing "brand name" of items for their general names. It doesn't show how educated we've come. Here they are:
My favourite maggi cube is Knorr
•Knorr and Maggi are separate brands entirely. What you should say instead is "my favourite seasoning cube is Knorr"
The best maclean in the market now is Close-up maclean
•There's no such thing as "close-up maclean", it's either you mean Close-up, or you mean Maclean. Except, of course, you combine toothpastes lol.
Madam, apart from indomie, do you sell any other indomie?
• What exactly do you mean? Maybe other brands like Golden penny, O! and Mimi, right? Then what you should say is "do you sell other noodles apart from indomie".
Personally, I don't drink soft drinks without eating oily snacks
•What's oily snacks? If you mean egg roll, doughnut, buns and puff puff, then the right word to use is pastries. "I don't enjoy soft drinks without a pastry" is what you should say.
Buy milk N150, and tea N100, put inside the akamu
•What's tea? Milo, Ovaltine and Bournvita are called beverages, not tea. Tea means something completely different (e.g Lipton tea bags, Top-tea bags).
Eating slice bread without ingredients in the middle is boring
•Ingredients like what? Okay I get it.......you mean (butter) margarine, jam and mayonnaise, right? Well they are called bread spreads.
My perfect breakfast is all those you soak inside plate
•Guessing you mean cornflakes, Golden mourn, Quaker oat, Fruit 'n' Fibre, custard, Rice Krispies, and garri? Well we call them cereal.
Lastly,
Every shirt is not Polo
Every insecticide is not Raid
Every phone is not android
And, every beef roll is not Gala!
I hope you learned something? Have a good evening and don't forget your sense of humour . God bless!

@OP you are not expected to use a question mark when you 'hope'. It is just an expression of what you hope, not a question.
Now, I hope you have learnt something. |

This definitely wouldn't be the first time this teenager would have been rude to his mum. It is easier to build boys than to mend men. If only the parents had developed solid moral foundation in the family, there wouldn't have been any reason for this 'near death experience'. #ParentingGoneBad |

What is he really up to gaaaaan. See, Mr. Oluwole, it is a showbiz world. Many people can paint you in many colours but only you know where the shoe is pinching you. There were facts posted online that Dbanj is broke...some say Eja nla has turned to Eja Titus. I see no sense in DB records for now. The likes of Tonto Lee and others, what have they produced so far? Consider Mavin or Chocolate City bro! Thank me later. |

I had this argument with some colleagues at work yesterday (during lunch). It was too hot and open ended. We wanted to know what makes you tag a girl a 'bad girl'. Some said her mode of dressing, some said the friends she keeps, some said it is a matter of character and attitude and the list kept going. The whole itch ended without anyone giving the golden point that everyone would certify. Let's hear your view about this. Remember, your contribution may help a sister out there. |

Hi Landers. This is a very good thread. I stumbled on this while searching for a good and reliable cleaning company for my uncle who just finished building his Duplex in Lekki. I contacted Afterlife Cleaning (though that name looks weird to me...). The guys didn't fall my hand. The site engineer was impressed from day one till the end of the project. Bravo! |

Education › Re: World Teacher's Day - Today by kurlarday: 12:46pm On Oct 04, 2013 |
Nice post! Peppy Luv, I commend your painstaking effort as you remember the teachers today.I know that the process of composing this piece would be quite laborious, but next time, please work on your tenses. I hope you do not teach English language. Happy teachers day! peppy luv: This is going to be my first topic on nairaland and I am glad it has to be on Education. Just coming back from morning mass and the first thing that caught my eyes was the question on the screen on AIT channel was "ARE THERE TRUE TEACHERS FOR THE FUTURE?" Today is world teacher's day!! But are these teachers or let me ask are we really and truly celebrated and appreciated by the society? Records show that teachers in china are the most respected in the world..are they different from others in different parts of the world or is there something about them that others need to learn from.. In Nigeria, politics have crept into the recruitment of teachers thereby reducing the quality of teaching. these people who play politics with the teaching profession have no passion for it,they see it as a means of escape from unemployment and when such persons get into the classroom they do not give their best or see that child and teenager as their responsibility which is what every teacher is supposed to do against all odds and that makes you a true teacher.
Aside the parents, the closest person who influences the child emotionally, socially, morally, psychologically, intellectual and language development is the teacher. That is why when a teacher abuses a child by words or action,he or she has failed in his duties. Teaching is a profession I developed passion for even thou my family and people around me wanted me to be a lawyer. Each time I go to school and learn something new,I was always grateful to my teachers and saw them as my role model even thou most of them were not good and not supposed to be teachers but the rejection of the profession have ushered in such people thereby making mockery of the profession and reducing the integrity and dignity of teachers. Most of my friends left me after I declared my interest in teaching and farming and gained admission into the college of Education,an institution that even a tout and the dumbest fellow looks down on(lol...story for another day) ,everyone wants to be a doctor, lawyer bla bla bla its all good but I always choose to be different,I do what inspires me and not what others or everyone wants me to do but today they are proud of me. I am a proud teacher and farmer. These and many challenges(including the abuse suffered by teachers in the hands of the society and mostly the students they teach) increased my passion for teaching and inspires me to make a change in the profession.. I have taught in nursery, primary and secondary even thou it was just for a short period of time. I was posted to the local government secretariat in the village I serve but I volunteered to teach in the village primary school and also carried out my MDGs sensitization programmes.it was a wonderful experience, now am going to the college so I could help train the future teachers .
I have a lot to say or should I say write but I don't want to make it too long because most Nigerians hate to read which some nairalanders are guilty of. I will send my article to the papers and hope you all get to read it cuz I really have much to say and its high time we begin to appreciate our teachers because they build the foundation of every knowledge you have acquired today. Call your teachers today and say thank you for bringing out the best in me.If your mum or dad is or was a teacher, buy them a gift! If you have lost contact, pray for them and wish them well. I pray our leaders will look into the plight of teachers and treat them right because with motivation you bring the best out of people and that will go a long way to fix our broken educational system.they should also hold series of screening and interviews inorder to flush out the 'fake teachers'.. To my co true teachers out there (even thou I am a lecturer but we are all teachers even the professors are teachers because we all impart knowledge) I say HAppy TEachers DAy ! Wishing you the very best and encouraging you to give your best. Your reward is not just in heaven, its also here on earth.. |
Music/Radio › #top Five Most Viewed Nigerian Musical Videos On Youtube (2013) by kurlarday(op): 3:22pm On Sep 03, 2013 |
#TOP FIVE MOST VIEWED NIGERIAN MUSICAL VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE (2013)No doubt, a lot of videos had been produced this year by some creative (or should I just say crazy) dudes. In fact, while doing this research, we lost count on all the number of videos that had been produced this year. Yes! Only this year. In this edition of our #TOP FIVE MOST…we shall highlight the few videos that have been able to stand out of the crowd by being on top of thousands of videos produced in 2013. The basis of our analysis is the number of views that these videos have on Youtube as at 01: 25 a.m. on 03/09/2013. It is our belief that whatsoever could have made anyone out there to click on the play button on Youtube in order to stream a music video is actually commendable. No matter how poor, vague, senseless or insignificant any musical video is, if people can stream and watch it on Youtube, it is really remarkable. Here are the top five for this year: (5) MAY D’S ‘GAT ME HIGH’ (1,288, 107 VIEWS)After being on top of the game last year with ‘Chop My Money’ while he was under Square Record, May D has shown that he actually merits to be on top this year. Without the help of Peter, Paul or Akon, May D has single handedly climbed the lader of success as he emerges as the number five on the list of the artistes with the #TopFiveMost… Viewed Musical Videos on Youtube in 2013. (4) MALEEK BERRY’S ‘THE MATTER’ Ft. WIZKID (1,479,797 VIEWS)Please tell me. What is the matter with ‘The Matter’? How could Maleek Berry just come from nowhere and stay on top of the game this year? I’m sure the guy really means business this year. Maleek! Maleek! Maleek! What’s the secret? Please don’t say Wizkid. (3) FLAVOUR’S ‘SHAKE’ (2,373, 306 VIEWS)This amazing number of views is more than the population of some countries in the world. Did I hear you say Togo? Oh, Ghana? #Justkidding# This video is bound to shake you! Whenever you watch it, please ensure that you hold something. Check out the remaining two from the source http://blog.playmyjamz.com/?p=405 . You can also watch the videos from the link. Enjoy! |

Good job! This innovation deserves an award. Really, I had been thinking of how our Nigerian schools can digitalize their report sheets. I remember when I was in high school, those days when some crazy lads would change the red ink on their report card to blue in order to avoid being beaten or punished by parents waiting at home. @planner212 I think one of the advantages of the stuff is that it allows a robust database of student's academic data. If a school is engulfed in fire, no wahala...information is intact. Nice one! |
