Six persons killed as two cult groups clash in Ondo

No fewer than six persons have been killed in a supremacy battle between two rival cult groups in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo state.
Ten persons were reported to have sustained injuries during the cult clashes in the community.
The clash which started last week was between two rivalry cult groups, and Eiye fraternity.
To douse the tension and anxiety in the town and to curtail the incessant killings, monarchs and stakeholders in the area have imposed a seven-hour curfew in the town.
The Jegun of Idepe Okitipupa, Oba Micheal Obatuga said the traditional rulers and other stakeholders agreed on the imposition of curfew in the town between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am.
Oba Obatuga noted that the perpetrators carried out their evils act within that period with the use of motorcycles.
He advised residents to call their wards who might likely be involved in such unpleasant acts to order.
Speaking on the killings, the council Chairman, Igbekele Akinrinwa, said the community leaders, traditional leaders have held a series of meetings in respect of the worrisome development in the council by the youths
The State police command spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami who lamented the rate of secret cults’ activities in the state, especially in the Okitipupa council area, said the situation has taken a worrisome dimension.
She described the cases of reported cult-related clashes in the Okitipupa area of the state as alarming
She attributed the recent upsurge in secret cultism among young boys below 25 years of age to a lack of parental responsibility.
” The police will not fold its arms and watch anyone try to truncate the existing peace being enjoyed in the land.

I've lived long enough around the diaspora especially in the USA to know that majority of the Nigerians who make groundbreaking achievements with global recognition and distinctions in various fields or human endeavor are predominantly of either Igbo, Yoruba, or Edo stock when it comes down to their ethnic demography... I've seen many Yorubas graduate with honors from prestigious Ivy league and HBCU colleges across the USA just as much as Igbos, it's too close in terms of how these two tribes break records to even designate one more superior than the other. Even in the same USA, majority of the top College drafts into the NBA and NFL who make the list based on their scholarly accomplishments are once again mostly Igbos, Yorubas and to some extent tribes from the Edoid groups (but Igbos have the slight edge here when it comes to producing top sportsmen and women in the US right from high school to College levels).

I could go on and on, in Combat sports Yorubas are doing well by producing the likes of Israel Adesanya and Anthony Joshua, but a quick fact-check will also show you that Igbos haven't fared any less as well, Dick Tiger an Igbo man was the Dick Tiger was the first Nigerian-born professional boxer who held the World Middleweight and World Light Heavyweight Championships, then we have the likes of Lawrence Okolie doing very well as well as the undefeated WBO cruiserweight title holder etc... Most of the best writers in Nigeria both male and females are mostly Igbos and Yorubas... I could go on and on but there's so many metrics to break down.

There are so many indices where Igbos and Yorubas are doing well, now if you still want to go with the whole superiority complex to buttress your fragile ego, then wine, but the burden of proof is now on you to substantially make your arguments in effect on the basis of STATISTICAL ANALYSIS, and not some jagbanjantis emotional tantrums.

A revered Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, has advised the Federal Government to support splinter groups among bandits as a way to end mass abductions of school pupils.

Gumi, who spoke to The PUNCH on the telephone on Wednesday on the abduction of 200 Islamiyya schoolchildren in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, said many bandits were ready for a dialogue, adding that government could use them to fight the “ugly ones.”
