In the midst of all these advise, we also need to point out that sometimes the computer server at the wharf can go down for days, and it will take "ONE WEEK" literally to release a job (this is for you folks that keeps saying that it shouldn't take 3,4, or 7 days to clear a container). This is not unusual. It has taken me 5 weeks to clear a container, yet I was doing everything right. God forbid that there is a congestion in the wharf, this would even compound an already complicated situation. Then you have to deal with the terminal payments. It can take you a whole day to pay just terminal charge at TITC.

I personally don't believe that the duration this container is taking to exit the gates of the wharf is highly unusual. Ask any regulars at Apapa or Tincan wharfs and they can confirm what I am stating. Once that server goes down, everybody regardless of experience in the freight forwarding game, stands at attention until the server comes back up. But OP you still need to satisfy your curiosity and worries by going to Apapa yourself to verify the situation of this

Now take the bill lading to port to know d status whether he has pay duty or not but if truly he has done examination he would have paid but just confirm that.
The agents' refusal to pick your call is not helping matter but you need to see him so that he can explain the status to you.

On the demurrage,the shipping company and the terminal charges demurrage but I guess the shipping company will give you 14 days concession before charging theirs which is normally 9k flat rate while the terminal as at now will be 12.6k but am sure he(agent) must have paid some before the examination if he has done it hence in summary try to see your agent while you go for confirmation in the shipping company being the consignee they will avail you the extent he has gone with them, thereafter visit DTI cafe in Apapa with the BL to know if he has paid duty thereafter you can know what to do.

Week 3: Today is wednesday and he has not picked his calls this week.

Bros, your money to comfortably pull this container should be around N1,500,000 and N1,550,000. The agent was probably working with what you gave him. You probable dealt him a "take it or leave it type of deal", hence he took it, knowing that if it hooks you go still drop the remaining money.

TITC is right behind Zenith and Access bank in the Panasonic building at point road Apapa by area B police station, right opposite KeyStone bank. I am saying all this to prove to you that I am a regular. His demurrage on the terminal side at this level should be 12,600 per day for the container and not for units of cars. Depending on his arrangement with the shipping company, he might just pay little demurage. I always ship with ZIM lines or Hanjin, or United Arab shipping lines, and I make sure that my shipper gets me 21 days free

2007 Xterra... duty should be around 550-700k

2009 Nissan... Duty should be around 800-950k

Then the miscellaneous items you have in the containers... from household items to electronics... duty is usually 200k flat...

Shipping company... 200k deposit for 40ft container... refundable... another 200-300k for terminal charges... and around 88k for daily demurrage...
Now calculate how much you paid again... some agents do it for far lower than this by under reducing the years of the vehicles and bribing the custom officer that's examining the container... but it's always two ways.... it's either you scale through... Or it comes back to bite you... ever wonder why you're travelling and the custom seize your vehicle saying you didn't pay correct duty... yeah... that's what happens...

Hence his demurrage na N12,600 per day. You forgot to mention, releasing officer money. DC Money, CIU money, OC Gate money, even the agencies money (Police/anti bomb, SS, NDLEA, ), even valuation get money. This container should cost him N1,550,000 million to clear (assuming it is loaded with goods. However, if the container only contain just the 3 cars, then he should be paying N1,400,000 million naira. Any regulatory body can easily place alert on the system. For instance, the one that I cleared in December had an alert initiated by port CID. They claimed that they got information from New York that I had furniture in my container. I just laughed and gave them 10,000 (ten thousand naira), and they released the alert immediately

Folks this is Port Harcourt road Aba. I just came home to Aba, and had the privilege of snapping some photos. I equally found out that this federal road has not been touched since Sam Mbakwe days (1982). I wonder which federal road that hasn't been touched at least once in the last 2 decades. I also realized that all the government parastatal are all renting their offices from private individual. The folks in Abuja has simply refused to develop the town. There is no single federal presence, all you have is private individuals. And you wonder why we keep clamouring for Biafra
