U have to be a bit more strict with them, let them know u as a no nonsense person. Even if its only 3 students that will listen to u, continue teaching those ones and abandon d rest of them. U can flog them at times but u have to be careful with d flogging cos some secondary school boys are cultists, they might waylay u on d way and 'treat ur Bleep up'. But ultimately, be very firm and apply a lot of wisdom.

Nairaland / General / Ogbeh Wrong, US Didn’t Reject Nigerian Yams — Exporter by laescatua(m): 10:52am On Oct 22, 2017
A Nigerian yam exporter, Dr. Timothy Ijir, who is based in the United States, has said that the US authorities did not reject any yam exports from Nigeria.

He stated this in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday.

He said, “I am the only person who has imported Nigerian yams into the US and I can say without equivocation that they were not rejected. Any statement to the contrary is false and misguided.

“Some of the statements and quotes credited to the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources are false. I am currently working on importing my next consignment. Our US Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration import permit is still valid.”

Also, an expert in the agricultural sector, Prof. Joseph Ukpabi, has accused the Federal Government of not carrying out proper consultations before approving the exportation of yams from Nigeria to the United States, China and the United Kingdom.

In June this year, Nigeria commenced yam export to other countries as part of efforts aimed at reducing dependence on oil and increasing its revenue from agriculture.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, however raised the alarm recently when he said the US rejected yams from Nigeria because of their poor quality.

To avert a reoccurrence, he said the Federal Government would increase its disciplinary measures against exporters that would embarrass Nigeria by exporting substandard items.

Ukpabi, the Acting Director, National Root Crop Research Institute, Umudieke, Imo State, said the Federal Government did not involve the institute before commencing the exportation of yam to Europe and the US.

Ukpabi said, “The problem associated with yam export to Europe is due to improper consultation. We are the research institute in charge of roots and tubers in Nigeria, but unfortunately, we were not consulted before the yam exportation exercise started.

“The viruses that affect yam are numerous; so, you need to know the varieties of yam that you are exporting. I am trying to see the Minister of Agriculture to know what actually happened to the exported yams and why they got spoilt before their transit to Europe.”

Nigeria produces not less than 60 per cent of the world’s yam production, according to the Federal Government, but it does not rank among the world’s highest exporters of the crop.

The government, it was learnt, had directed some of its agencies to ensure that yams exported were properly checked and certified.

Some of the agencies involved in the whole process are the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, among othersOgbeh wrong, US didn’t reject Nigerian yams — Exporter http://punchng.com/ogbeh-wrong-us-didnt-reject-nigerian-yams-exporter/
Politics / Let’s Speak With One Voice, Buhari Tells African Leaders by laescatua(m): 12:54pm On Oct 21, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged African leaders to speak “with one voice” independent of foreign influence.

He said this was necessary to achieve economic integration, development, peace, and security on the continent.

According to a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke at a bilateral meeting with President Alpha Conde of Guinea on Friday night in Istanbul, Turkeyy.

“President Buhari said leaders should learn from history to effectively tackle conflicts, violent extremism, and proliferation of small arms and light weapons” the statement read.

The two Presidents, who met on the margins of the ninth D8 Summit in Istanbul, exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Buhari assured his Guinean counterpart, who is also the current Chairman of AU that Nigeria would continue to strengthen its engagement with all AU member states to address current security challenges in restive areas such as South Sudan and Libya, and the political crisis in Togo.

In his remarks, Conde praised Nigeria’s leadership on the continent, particularly President Buhari’s great job on anti-corruption and his strong voice on African issues at the international stage.

The Guinean leader stressed the need for Guinea and Nigeria to accelerate economic cooperation, particularly in the natural resources sector, where Guinea boasts of 25 percent or more of the world’s known bauxite reservesLet’s speak with one voice, Buhari tells African leaders http://punchng.com/lets-speak-with-one-voice-buhari-tells-african-leaders/
Nairaland / General / EFCC Didn’t Raid My Home For Hidden Funds –amosun by laescatua(m): 10:37am On Oct 21, 2017
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, debunked rumours making the rounds that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided his Lagos home and found funds in different currencies stashed in vaults.

He also attempted to dispel rumours that a youth corps member, who was said to be his mistress, had a set of twins with him.

Amosun on Friday described the allegations as “unfounded” and a “concoction of idiots” while speaking at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, during a Town Hall meeting of stakeholders for the state’s 2018 Budget.

The meeting was organised by the state’s Ministry of Budget and Planning for the purpose of collecting inputs from all stakeholders and building them into the preparation of the 2018 Executive Appropriation Bill.

The governor used the opportunity to address the allegations against him.

The governor threatened to find the purveyors of the rumours and falsehood against him, and make them face the wrath of the law.

He accused some unnamed politicians, whom he said were jostling to govern the state in 2019, of being behind the allegations against him.

The governor said that instead of those aspiring to govern the state to sell their manifestoes to the electorate, they resorted to hiring people “to concoct falsehood in the vain hope that lies and rumour mongering would help the governorship aspirations of their masters.”

Amosun explained the rumour that he had a set of twins was so strong that his mother-in-law called him to ask him if it was true or not.

He said his wife, Olufunso, also heard the rumour.

Professing his love for Olufunso, who he said had been his wife for 26 years, the governor said he had never had a girlfriend, let alone had one with a set of twins.

He described having one wife as challenging in Nigeria now, adding that he had no plans to have a second wife.

Speaking on the proposed 2018 Budget, the governor promised to make judicious use of it when it is finally approved.

He said that his administration would ensure the completion of all ongoing projects in the state by the end of his tenure in officeEFCC didn’t raid my home for hidden funds –Amosun http://punchng.com/efcc-didnt-raid-my-home-for-hidden-funds-amosun/
Politics / Sani To FG: Include Presidency Cabal, APC Members In Looters’ List by laescatua(m): 8:54am On Oct 21, 2017
The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government not to limit the names of treasury looters being compiled for publication to members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Sani, who spoke figuratively in a Facebook post on Friday, said the list should include members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the cabal suspected to be in the Presidency.

The post read, “The Federal Government’s decision to publish the names of looters is commendable. Hope the ‘call-up’ list will not be limited to the ageing ‘Umbrella United’ players, but will include those in the ‘Broomers FC’ and ‘Paris Saint Germain’ and ‘Dynamo Cabal FC’ players.”

While the APC was figuratively referred to as the broom party, PDP was referred to as the umbrella party.

The lawmaker had also alleged that there was a cabal in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in a recent interview with The PUNCH.

President Buhari had reportedly directed ministries, departments and agencies to compile names of public officials who embezzled government funds and from whom some loot had been recovered.

Making the disclosure on Wednesday, the Executive Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, Mr. Adetokunbo Mumuni, after a meeting with the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), had said Buhari’s directive was in response to an order by the Federal High Court, Lagos, directing the Federal Government to publish the names of looters and how much was recovered from each of them.
Politics / Landslide Kills 14 In Malaysia by laescatua(m): 8:49am On Oct 21, 2017
Landslide kill 14 in Malaysiahttp://punchng.com/landslide-kills-14-in-malaysiaTwo workers were found dead and 12 others were missing Saturday after a landslide at a construction site on the popular Malaysian tourist island of Penang, officials said.

Rescuers rushed to the Tanjung Bungah area on the north of Penang after the accident was reported just before 9:00 am (0100 GMT), the fire and rescue department said.

Pictures showed large piles of earth had slipped off a hillside onto the site, where houses were being built.

Two bodies were pulled from the mud and twelve others were still missing, said Anuar Omar, a local police official. He said the victims were believed to be migrant workers.

Many foreigners work in low-paying, physically-demanding industries such as construction in Malaysia.

Penang Island City Council mayor Maimunah Sharif said it was not clear what caused the accident but ruled out the possibility of wet weather as there had not been heavy rains for some days.

The rapid pace of construction on Penang has raised concerns about damage to the environment and that rules regarding safety are not always adhered to.

Tanjung Bungah, north of Penang’s capital George Town, is home to beaches and some hotels, and is popular with expatriate residents.

George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a former British colonial trading outpost famed for its mix of architectural and religious influences and vast range of street food.

Politics / Re: Mark Begs Britain To Assist Nigeria On Insecurity by laescatua(m): 7:39am On Sep 28, 2012
Rossikk: This man has no shame. Has he not read the revelation by ex British colonial officer Harold Smith, to the effect that Britain RIGGED Nigeria's independence elections to install northern hegemony on the country? And also RIGGED the national census to create false northern population advantage? Atrocities from which we're yet to recover today? What and what did the British build in Nigeria in their 70 years in power here? Was illiteracy not at 93% at the time they left? Did they build a single university in those 70 years? Did we have any roads? What infrastructure did they construct apart from the wretched railway meant to evacuate our resources abroad for their embezzlement?

So why is Mark today asking Britain to ''help Nigeria'' do ANYTHING?

In fact some of these so-called leaders are just DUNCES.

If at this point it is still not clear to people like Mark that Britain and co HAVE ZERO INTENTION OF ''HELPING'' Nigeria be anything but a weak, dependent, client state, then nothing can cure them of their foolishness.

Now tell me something: WHAT ''existing bond'' is Mark talking about? Somebody attacks and seizes your territory, and loots your resources for 70 years, RIGS your independence elections before disappearing into the night, and you say you have an ''existing bond'' with that person whereby such a person ''must be interested in the propagation and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria''.

I mean, is an armed robber ever interested in propagating anything good for his victims??

So why would Britain be interested in anything good coming to Nigeria??

true talk my brother, I agree with u 100%

Acidosis: rubbish! waste of physiological and psychological ability..!

French is such a simple language, students spend 6-7years learning it in pri & sec schools yet most of these students can't speak NADA!
Teach them what they need to know not chung chiann ..

You don't have to learn their language just because you want to be like them..
before you know it, the teachers would clap for students speaking chinese but if they ever catch you speak yoruba, you'll be forced to pay #20 vernacular fee.
u're really right
