ProgrammingRe: Why So Many Junior Developers Struggle To Get An Opportunity. by Lampert505(m): 3:46pm On Jan 03, 2023
I’m hoping to learn React soon also and I’ll build my portfolio and large project with it…

These are some Side Projects I built recently, some are challenges from frontendmentor:

◆ e-commerce challenge(html,tailwindCss, vanilla Js): https://opeyemilsneakers.netlify.app
◆ digital rosary for Muslim (html, tailwindCss, vanilla Js): https://tesbihpro.netlify.app
◆ Todo web app (html, tailwindCss,Vanilla js) still building : https://opeyemiltodo.netlify.app
◆ Launchdown-countdown(html, tailwindCss, vanilla Js):
https://opeyemil2023.netlify.app
◆ Prettyglitz website(functionality yet to be fully added):
https://prettyglitzz.netlify.app

what more do you feel I should work on before jumping into React boss! ❤️

ProgrammingRe: I’m Building A Digital Dhikr(muslim Supplication) Counter, Help Me Test It by Lampert505(op): 3:33pm On Jan 03, 2023
Counter reducer has been fixed. I’m yet to learn backend languages. I’m not so sure I can implement maintaining current count using local storage ❤️

truthCoder:
Great.

Nice ability to change colors.

Touch counter works...would be great on mobile...i tested on a laptop though.

Update Request:
Make the 'counter reducer' not count into negative when it is at 0. Currently, if at 0, it starts counting -1, -2 etc
Give the reset button an icon.

Any plans on maintaining current count ? Local storage? When i refresh, it reverts to 0.

Good job

hi boss!
i jus sent you a mail,I’ll be really happy if you attend to it

tensazangetsu20:
Internship ke huh. Better use those skills to freelance on Upwork, toptal and gigster and continue building up your personal portfolio. You are looking for internship where they will be paying you 50000 Naira or they will tell you to work for free.

Op get on GitHub and stack overflow take projects and Start to build them. Master one CMS like WordPress or Squarespace. Sign up on Upwork, use 50000 naira and buy connects (this is an investment and start bidding for jobs). Don't go the high end jobs start with the smaller ones. Get this jobs and do well at them and build your Upwork profile and later on you can start applying for full time remote jobs. Don't waste your time with any Nigerian company.

I joined Upwork as a digital marketer my first job was 200 dollars. That contract just ended and me and the client are renegotiating 500 dollars per month now. So far I have sent out like 60 proposals and I have three pending interviews. Like you, I started learning programming as I believe digital marketing isn't a safe skill to have. Anyone with common sense and an internet connection can easily know it but you can't say so for programming.

At your level, you should be able to build responsive websites. Go in and start with that and continue improving your skills.
ProgrammingI’m Building A Digital Dhikr(muslim Supplication) Counter, Help Me Test It by Lampert505(op): 1:19pm On Oct 02, 2022
some months back, I decided to dive into tech and front end web development seems like what I can do, I followed my instinct, made a thread on nairaland about the journey and it’s been fun so far

link to my first thread
https://www.nairaland.com/6939333/diary-aspiring-web-developer

I did multiple project when I was a more comfortable with html/css and css frameworks like tailwind, Git and GitHub also

I made a thread about that also

https://www.nairaland.com/7202378/largest-html-css-tailwind-frameworks

I figured out, it’s time to dive onto the next one which seems to be the hardest I’ve learnt so far lol, JavaScript, after watching video courses, i decided to work with it, I thought of what to build that will actually be useful to me and will be easily presentable to friends and family to USE, then I think Of (misha), it’s rosary-like but it’s used by the Muslims to count their supplications, making the UI was really easy for me since I’m used to building UI ever since I got comfortable with html/css,Git and GitHub , for the functionality, I was a bit slow and I seek google’s help on some part of the work lol… it was really amazing building this, it’s still under development but I thought it won’t be bad to share what I’ve really been working on!

https://tesbihpro.netlify.app/

Digital Dhirk (supplication) counter
i. Has nice UI
i. Changeable desired theme
i. Dark Mode

More features to be added soon
i. Options for multiple language
i. getting a pop up notification after setting a desired number
i. sound to be added to the Counter button

I’m an aspiring web developer bro, I’m comfortable with html/css and tailwind too

ProgrammingMy Largest Html/css And Tailwind Frameworks, Help With Reviews! by Lampert505(op): 10:50am On Jun 29, 2022
On this day,I dived into tech, i wanted to start with js being the hardest, I got to know early enough that it doesn’t work that way, a friend of mine, an idolo at that decided to share some html/css courses with me, I jumped on it, I made a thread on NL regarding how much I’ll be documenting my daily goals and stuff,I was very lazy and inconsistent in doing all of that but it doesn’t stop me from coding and working tho,I only have problem with documenting my daily works, here’s the link to this thread

https://www.nairaland.com/6939333/diary-aspiring-web-developer

I wasn’t so consistent in the first 2 months, but after he (my friend)shared some of his personal project with me,I was motivated and the rest they say is history, I became really consistent and focused within a month and I made my first personal project with html and css and I was wowed by it even tho it wasn’t so large, but I felt great inside of me knowing I could build something

Here’s the link to the first work

https://yemil.netlify.app/

I got really comfortable with them and I decided to try framework, Most developers recommend tailwind, I learnt and master it to some point where I was a bit comfortable and I decided to build some real-life-like project and this is it,

https://prettyglitzz.netlify.app/

I’ll say I have been progressive in this Front end journey so far, I really can’t wait to jump on JS....

Now over to you bosses, how much would you say I’ve improved seeing my first project with html/css and the second one with html/css and tailwind Css, will you say it’s right for me to jump on JS now and there’s something more I need to work more on ?

The ground is yours Agbas, I’m open to criticism and praise as well Lol.

God bless you boss, this will go a long way to convince me

Studymore123:
It's different strokes for different folks bro. If you have the circumstances to get a degree, go grab it. It doesn't matter the course. I know individuals who have degrees in music, sociology, health and they're in IT. The fact that a studied a course doesn't mean it must be your career in life. If your interest is also in studying an IT program, that's equally fine and beneficial.

If you are not able to get a degree please do not be discouraged. We have those without a degree and also making great strides in the field.

What I don't like though is comparison. Don't say this person is a dropout and so a degree is not necessary, you are not that person and that person is not you.

Please examine your circumstances and create a path for your self. Believe in yourself, be motivated, be inspired, get there.

Is the programme still on
And how do I apply?

Anonymous6o6:
This was the message I received today. I just realized that 70hrs a week would be 14hrs a day, that is, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. The good news is that I can always watch the
tutorial videos at my convenient time.

For the the first month which requires 80% score to continue the program, it is necessary to be active online (they actually score base on one's presence). The second thing is that you have to complete all projects sent to your email (These projects are usually sent with limited time).

I always laugh hard when people mention successful school dropouts like Gates and Zuckerberg. These ones dropped out from some of the most challenging universities to get admitted into. And they were high fliers before they dropped out. You wey no get straight A for WAEC and dey struggle with JAMB na hin wan follow drop out. For every Gates or Zuckerberg there a thousands of failed dropouts.

I’m overwhelmed and glad by your enlightened contribution, I’d say I’m jus being bothered by how much I’ve seen undergraduate suffer in Nigeria and I jus have this feelings that I might not be able to cope with that lol, But I think I’m convinced with your comment Sir,I’ll work towards, btw is there a way to get to you so as to know the bootcamp you mentioned earlier boss?

spartan117:
If you go through LinkedIn, indeed and other job listing platforms you will realise that many tech jobs list a CS degree or any related field of study as one of the job requirements. Some even list MS degrees.

It's possible to get a tech job without a university degree, However there's no doubt that a university degree is still very relevant to securing a job.

I attended a bootcamp and got a job immediately after graduation and one of the requirements before I was admitted to the bootcamp was my university degree as well as NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.

So certificates are still important, infact you can't work as a full time staff in many big corporate organisations in Nigeria without an NYSC certificate. And you can't get an NYSC certificate without your degree certificate.

Now there are some organisations (even some big tech orgs) that don't really care about university certificates and hire people with high school certificates abroad. But the reality is that most do care.

I'll advise you to work on getting a relevant 1st degree CS certificate or an equivalent part-time while you learn programming at the hub, you'll need both.
