For d record, typically wen u hav NOUNs starting wt consonants, u use A as their articles e.g a horse, a car, a fan etc. Wen it coms to NOUNs wt vowels, u use AN as their articles e.g an orange, an umbrella, an egg etc.

Exceptional cases
Wen u hav words starting wt consonants bt d consonant letter nt sound (silent) on pronunciation, of course it means d nxt letter which is automatically goin to b a vowel (as u can't have 2 consonants letters beginning a word), is recognized den. E.g Hour, wen pronounced, d "H" is silent so next letter O is recognized as such u say "an hour" nt a hour cos f general rules above.

So in d case of "Hotel" d H is nt silent as such recognized, so we hav "a hotel"

Every educated person knows that Buhari lacks the knowledge and health fittness to rule a country. But amazingly he is getting a second term. This can only happen when the masses are not educated. U people aren't looking at dis man BSc issue in d right direction. I kno dis man too well. He's in oil n gas industry. He is d CEO/MD of Heyden petroleum, upstream n downstream sector of petroleum sector in nigeria. Hes very versed. He has BSc even more dan dat in abroad but d problem is he dares not declaring it simply because once u declare ure BSc holder whether in naija or abroad, u must serve in naija n get NYSC certificate which I think he doesn't has. So presenting school certificate is only option to save him.

To corroborate my tot, goin by d case in court, back 2015 he contested for Senate declaring a BSc now to 2018, he decided to present jst O/level so as nt to have NYSC issue.
