PoliticsRe: Why White Zimbabwean Farmers Plan To Stay In Nigeria by landis(m): 7:59am On May 14, 2008
How did Zim fail anyways? When the whites were farming, there was food sufficiency, now that 'their own people' are in charge - starvation. A simplistic analysis at best, but it shows the flawed nature of your reasoning.
thast exactly the point. Zim allow all the skills, good lands, tech to be in hand of 'outsider' and when relationship tour sour; we know the result!

nigeria about to venture into same; already Govt has given more support to these guys than their own people, naturally, their own people will start to give-up; lossing skill, technic, etc and when relationship goes bad: BOOM!

Nigerians must farm/feed Nigeria; because it is their root; no where to run, they will still be there.

Thats why EU/US support 120% their OWN farmers with Subsidy.

even if the government underwrites a loan - it is simply a guarantee.
In Nigeria; this is key to get any loan. Not your Business Plan. Since the bank will get back their money.

the houses im selling are not actually publicised
if they were, they wouldnt go for this price
and i wouldnt be contacted to sell them as the
govt agency in uestion does not deal with middlemen.

this happens to be unaudited/underpriced houses
mis handled by the former chairman of the agency.
the new chairman has asked that they be sold of at the
original govt price.

this is being carried on discreetly to avoid the normal
hijack by politicians(you get)
and all i recieve is my 10%when you have
gotten your papers.

you don't pay to me or anyone you make your payments
to the agenct's account.please not that you can call me now on +2348037600752

do you call anything on the Internet DISCREET? NO
And by putting it here, same politicians will not call you and still hijack it? NO

Thus, this is surely a fraudulent transaction.

There are many sides to this issue - on one hand, are the local farmers organised enough to secure financing from the banks?
pointless. Kwara govt underwrite the loan. nothing to do organise local farmers or not.

nobody is saying they should not come, but they come with their own money. not use our money.

Its not like these 13 or whatever number of farmers are being given all the funds supposed to go to other farmers nationwide - let other states do what they can to promote agriculture - Kwara has chosen its own part, and I hope they are successful, it could possibly serve as a model for other farms which are not established simply because someone was in government.
Zim has shown us this model does not work. You need your people to feed your own people. it is that simple.

Yes the government is at fault in many respects, but not completely
Govt is 100% AT FAULL.

Awolowo has shown what delibrate govt support can do. ex Cocoa production in old western region.

It is only in Africa we depend on outside to feed/farm for us.

People who should know have explained on this forum what it takes from conception to implementation to actualise EPC contract yet you refused to listen. One only wakes up somebody who is asleep not somebody pretending to sleep. It takes other countries long time to carry out EPC projects too, the only difference is that they don't call press conference at conception stage, you only get to know at the site assembly stage.  Have you not heard of Airlines placing orders with Boeing or Airbus that will take 5, 6 years to deliver. In the 4th year, if you go the airline hangar and you don't see the airplane, does it make Boeing/Airbus a thief or the contract a failure?
all the money has been stolen otherwise, where is project plan, that shows when equipment A or site X to be delivered.

building power plant is not a  rocket science for goodness sake!

in some cases, they dont even know where the GAS to feed it will come from, yet money was release for such!

the day-light robbery! so you will tell us same story about Nigeria still importing PETROL after 8yrs of OBJ.

Money to be spent on:

1 spread info in their community

3. rent office/employ people in their community

4. travels for house issues in their community etc

It is within the law but most of these guys pocket the money.

The community of each members should be asking questions.

Is it the same Government that kept under-reporting the death toll that you'd trust to distribute all that money and materiel efficiently?
who said this? how did they know there is under-reporting?

many of these Un aid workers are very skilled in handling this kind of circumstance, it's pure stupidity to take this kind of line.
exactly, time for burmanese to develope these skills too. where except in their own country.

Even the Russian Government under Vladimir Putin sought foreign help from western countries to enable it rescue the crew of a sunk submarine, after an initial delay.
distributing food from location A to be B is not same as rescue a sunk submarine.

Over 40 percent of the EU's budget goes to agricultural subsidies. Are they partly responsible for the current food crisis? The EU says no, but experts say subsidies can imbalance the market over the long-term.
the subsidy is not for FOREIGN farmers in EU but their own people.

yet, Nigeria is doing exactly opposite.

In correspondence with the fraudsters, the doctor said he would invest the money in malaria research. The doctor paid out $35,000 in wire transfers before becoming suspicious and contacting police last August. Police set up a sting operation and arrested Owolabi following a meeting at the doctor's Winnipeg home, Sept. 7.
and why is the Dr not in prison?

if the deal had gone well,  nothing would be heared like Abacha/OBJ money in WEST bank account.

no where in my post, i said i find this offensive. it is only interesting.

This is the same landis that felt it was ok for him to post ugly pictures of Nigeria but as soon as he finds the same sort of pictures on BBC, most of these taken by Nigerian reporters who work for the company, he immediately condemns them for it.
most people would not see these from BBC-web, posting it here just for people to see and make their own judgement.

PoliticsWhy Oil Prices Are So High? by landis(op): 2:33pm On May 08, 2008
So there appears to be a distinction between the factors that raise the oil price because they affect sentiment and the ones that genuinely affect supply and demand for oil.

And it may be that rises due to the former are vulnerable.

"It's like the dotcom boom in the 1990s," says Mr Lewis. "It was overinflated, but as long as everyone kept believing in it, the price went up."

"When they stopped believing in it, the price went down. And that's a warning."

I don't see where this is going because i asked you if it was difficult for skill transfer and you did not answer. If you are saying steps have not been put in place for this to happen then that is another matter. As you can read from my first post i said i hope there is skill transfer. Of course the ex Zim farmers are probably hear to simply earn a living first. Does that mean we can't learn from them? So what are you arguing about? If you want to argue about government putting infrastructure in place then that is another thing. But to just argue about skill transfer as if it is rocket science, i just don't know. To correct those obstacles then government simply needs to put make sure this becomes an avenue to expand on the agric sector. Afterall are they going to fly in employees from another country?
skill transfer is easy as ABC.

My point is/remains: skill transfer is not the GOAL of Kwara govt since they have not shown anything to support this.

Based on this, we should not waste our time HOPING skill transfer will somehow happen along the line.

You cant plant Rice and expect to harvest Banana.

Afterall are they going to fly in employees from another country?
You still missing the point:

Julius Berger has been in Nigeria for 'donkey years': how many smaller local construction companies have springed-up from them as result of having local employee? Zero.

Simple: It is not the goal of Nigeria government and not the goal of these 'transplanted industries'; they will simply kill any competitor!

Did anyone transfer skill to Cocoa Farmers during 'western region' when Awo build Cocoa House with Cocoa money? NO.

We need to have concerted effort and clear goal. It is not there in any of these administrations.
PoliticsThe Begining Of The End? by landis(op): 4:50pm On May 05, 2008
Increasingly, Nigerians should be asking what to do with Yara-ill.

THERE are indications that President Umaru Yar'Adua's health may have become worsened. This follows what sources said was the inability of the President to attend major functions and receive visitors since Friday. It was gathered from sources at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that many people who had wanted to see the president had not been able to do so since Friday.
--------

Efforts to speak with the presidential spokesman, Mr. Segun Adeniyi, on the state of the health of the President, proved abortive as he refused to pick several telephone calls made to him.
