Its not juju anything jare. It's because Christians of today idolize their Pastors.

jaw jaw: I never mentioned jailing because I know that is the job of the judiciary. However, I believe he can find a way to workout something with the Judiciary that can make them more effective and convictions faster. Well that is a story for anoda day. My point is that he can however, do things that will prevent the thievery from going on. Like Gbawe mentioned, why leave the importation to middle men? Why not buy directly from the refineries abroad? What about bringing in foreign companies who are operating successful refineries all over the world to come and run ours? If they run them and stabilize them then they can hand them back over to us. Why rely on the NNPC who have proven themselves to be incompetent?

The truth is that, to make the change we want in this country requires a few simple things. The problem is that you must have the will power to fight the thieves who are benefiting from the current mess. Unfortunately, GEJ is their product and has his hands deep inside the messy activities. So be rest assured, the lack of progress under him will continue.
You are right on point. GEJ likes presenting himself as the human and victimized President so as to curry the sympathy of Nigerians. Talk about killing someone softy: that is GEJ for you.

GEJ is not a victim of anything. He is part and parcel of the machinery of corruption. This is clear to anyone with half a brain to see.

That is why as long as JONA is in power, corruption can only gather more strength.

Nigerians are a people in delusion. We have a President that eats, drinks and baths with corruption, and people are nursing the hope that he'll be the one to eliminate corruption.

StateOfMind: On a separate note, I'm still yet to understand how a woman 'ties' a man down with pregnancy, except of course she pierces the condom without the man's knowledge.

A Man and a woman have unprotected sexx and when it results in pregnancy, they blame the woman for not taking care of herself and tying the man down with marriage like the guy dropped his common sense while enjoying the skin to skin.
That was a really good one. This a frequent accusation of boyfriends against girlfriends. It does sound silly when looked at from that perspective.

PoliticsRe: Patrick Obahiagbon, On Nigerian Pastors And Private Jet by lanrefront1(m):
^ @ odus Desmond

Abeg please stop putting words in people's mouth. Where in the whole thread did anyone say Pastors have to be looking poor and broke? You can hardly find anyone that feels that way in this modern era of pentecostal Christianity.

How does deciding not to spend an amount of between 40 to 50 million dollars on a jet plane, translates into being poor and broke and not living a good comfortable classy life.

Your line in not a unique one. Pentecostal Church leaders and their staunch supporters have been giving that line over a decade now. Jesus died so that we may be rich. A christian has no business being poor.... So many sermons on this; so much that they must run into thousands by now.

Who has said Christians must be poor or that church leaders should not enjoy the fruits of their labour? That's not what we are talking about.

We are talking about church leaders leading a flamboyant lifestyle of extreme extravagance and obscene opulence that even most international business men even in Europe and US don't indulge in. When the Bible says " he was poor so that we may be rich", the Bible is definitely not talking about this type of obscenity and lack of indiscretion.

Then there is what thing you need to get into your head and understand. You mentioned Solomon being so rich that his wealth was more that of Bill Gate and other like him combined together.

Solomon was a King not a Priest. A Priests are equivalent of today's Pastors because the whole of Israel bring to them ten percent of their income, grains and sheep to them. So if the Chief Priests now start living extravagantly and starts throwing parties for their children like Job, you think God will be happy.

Such a thing indeed happened in the Bible. The children of Eli the High Priest where living extra large on tithe and offering Israelites brought to God. The Bible says when Israelites brought their burn offering to the Lord, they will choose the best parts before allowing the people to carry own to offer the burn sacrifice. You can be sure they will be having feasts, the type you find in palaces in their homes everyday.

The Bible says the Lord killed both of Eli's children in one day. Eli died and God replaced him with Samuel.

Now Samuel was a Prophet and also became the leader of the Israelites (today's Christians). Israel had no king then. According to the Bible, Samuel was the leader of Israel from his youth till he became an oldman. Read the story in I samuel 12. Israel asked for a king. Samuel anointed Saul. Before he handed over to Saul he assembled the whole of Israel and and challenged them whether he has used his position to enrich himself in anyway. The whole of Israel shouted No and to confirm the authenticity of Samuel, God sent down and an heavy rain during the dry season.

Samuel was in a position to living a life extreme luxury in a palatial home fit only for kings. But that was not the case.

The point is this: all those tithes and offerings does not belong to the church leaders. It belongs to God. It's God's property and God is serious about. In the Book of Malachai, God said Isaelites who refused to give him their tithes are robbing him of His property. Imagine that! He called them thieves! So after they now bring the tithes, will he not be concerned about what is being done with the money.

The central message of Christianity is good works. Bettering the lives of the people is the business of Jesus.

A Priest on the altar in care of God's tithes will now pack about 50 million dollars to buy jet so he can transport himself; some even to go to an extent of acquiring four.

Forget whether T.B Joshua is true or false man of God. If he is false, then those whoa are true should be able do better him in an exemplary lifestyle.

When asked why he does not have a private jet, he replied that there is too much need to cater for; how can he go and spend such huge amounts on a jet. T.B Joshua's Ministry may not be as big as Oyedepo's and Redeem, but I know it's bigger than Ayo Oristajafor's Ministry. And trust me, T.B Joshua moves around the world more than him. How come he can go all over the world with his pastors without a private jet?

God's money is different to a business man's money. If a business man pays his tithe, the rest he may spend as he likes. But it is not so with God's money.

Forget that thing. Most of the Pastors can do without a private jet. It is more about a Status Symbol than it is about spreading the Gospel.

What some of this Pastors are doing can be compared to what our politcians are doing. The politicians, public servants, ministers, senators and President are entrusted with the wealth of the people. They squander it on their passions and frivolities. They run hotel bills like no man's business and allocate outrageous salaries to themselves.

The only difference is that while the politicians are doing it with people's money, the church leaders are doing with God's money.

In both cases it is not their money. The money is only entrusted into theri care.

Shollypopz: You hv it all wrong. The guy is not being crucified cos he got a divorce but because of the reason he gave the media as the cause of his divorce. I was expecting u to be smarter seeing how fast u called errone here a m*oron. You act like marrying her was a favor, he didn't hv to marry her to be a responsible father to his child. He knew he had no love for her but chose to marry her out of pity which in the long run does her more harm than good. Now she has two sons for him and her age clock isn't playing nice either. He can later find a younger woman who will give him more children or he'll fall in love with but that wouldn't be so easy for the woman based on history

His reasons for entering the marriage is wrong, even the dude realized it. Now does the whole world hv to know?? What happened to irreconcilable differences??
Well I have to say that you do have a point. The whole didn't have to know. He should have looked for something else to say out of respect for the woman, who is the mother of his two kids.

And really only God truly knows his mind. It is fact that many do sedire to change their wives when they attain a new status in life, especially when their status at the point of marriage was virtually zero. They want a wife than go with new status.

I'm not necessarily saying this is the case sha o.
PoliticsRe: Patrick Obahiagbon, On Nigerian Pastors And Private Jet by lanrefront1(m): 8:47am On Nov 26, 2012
You see, God's money is different from money made through business ventures.

Do you know that it maybe okay for a businessmen to buy a private jet for his travels, but it may not be okay for an organisation like an NGO or a Foundation for Cancer, Paralysis etc., who exists based on philanthropic contributions from the public to do the same.

It's just not. They will come under condemnation.

People give their tithes and offerings to God. If the pastors ask for the money in their own names, you can be sure no one will give them a dime.

So the money is not their own. They are just supposed to be in care of it. Of course, a labourer is worthy of his wages: no one is saying this men that have laboured for God should not live well. Indeed many of them are already living better than 90 percent of us.

But using God's money, up to the tune of 40 to 50 million dollars to acquire private jets just blows away the mind. I mean God, that amount of money just because u wanna move around. I hear it cost about 300,000 dollars a year of cost to maintain a private. These includes parking space fees, pilot, repairs etc. Think of what $300k can achieve in the life of longstanding loyal members of the church who are faithful but poor and are always praying for breakthroughs.

And seriously, even though Winners Ministry is very big, I see no justification for owning a total of four jets.

Can we as Christians, from what we know of God's mind in the Bible, claim that Jesus is very happy about how HIS money is being spent. Yes, it is HIS money. If this big Pastors preach in their own names, no one will even listen to them twice. Yes as servants of God, they are supposed to eat of of it because the Bible says in the Old Testament " he who ministers at the altar should eat at the altar". But after eating well and having enough, they are supposed to carry out the MIND OF JESUS with rest of Jesus' money.

But you see them building (personal) houses after house, buying many cars after so many cars, and even now jets after jets.

The worst of all is that, top men of the Clergy don't even speak out against the evil that the leaders of the country are committing against the people. Go and check out through the Bible, in Israel, it is the duty of the Prophets that Lord has in His wisdom raised and made prominent above other Prophets to speak against evil in the land. God has made them prominent and respected so that their voice will be heard. With the exceptions of a few like Tunde Bakare, the so called Christian leaders have failed woefully in this aspect. They never speak against evil. In fact they fraternize and socialise with these people. This is why so many politicians and wife of politicians always feel at home frequenting Redeem Camp. Have you heard of any governor paying Bakare a visit? His the man that evil? No, it is because he is doing what the Bible expects people in his position to do: speak against evil. Yes, I know he has excesses but at least he is standing up to be counted in this regard and God will recognise him for it.

Justice and equity in the land are issues that God takes very seriously. In fact over-seriously. Just go and read the Book of Kings and Chronicles in the Bible. God hates in when the people suffer because of injustice, insensitivity and greed of the leaders and he is always sending Prophets to go and prophesy His anger and eventual wrath upon them unless they change. Many of these Prophets were jailed and killed. Today, the leaders of Christianity in Nigerian faces no such grave dangers if they speak out against evil. Or is that their mouth is too heavy to speak? It can only be because they want to remain in the good books of the people in power.

Someone tell me, what other job can be more important than the leadership of CAN speaking against the evil of corruption of our leaders which sucking the lives of the populace?

Then they say Ayo Orishajafor members gave him gift of over 40 million dollars. Who are those individuals that can afford such an expensive gift. In a sane country, this is enough reason for an investigation.

Shollypopz: Telling us he married his wife because she was carrying his child is the same thing as marrying her out of pity. He said he didn't marry her out of love but for the sake of his unborn child.

What do u call that?? Do I need a journalist to tell me he married his wife out of pity??! Isn't it clear from what he's saying??
No, it's not the same thing. Marrying a girl because she got pregnant is marrying is trying to stand up to your responsibility; something like "if do the crime, then be ready to so the time". I think he is trying to explain he was never a deeply in love with his wife, he was just caught in doing the right thing.

That is very different form saying he married out of pity. If he had said that, it means he's saying the girl was a pitiable and miserable and he just married or else she'll get no one else.

But all the same, I think he should just have they irreconcilable differences. They will have to interact a lot because of their two kids.

Rubbish; at least, they don't kill.

Your point is not supported by facts. Do you know how many Christians have killed in the North since 1960 in various riots or uprisings. Even the incident of someone making fun of the prophets in faraway over sea countries leads to death of christians in Nigeria.

On the other hand, have you ever heard, even once in any state that christians went on killing spree of Muslims after being incited in a church service , and they do the killing in name of Jesus; shouting praised be Jesus. But these are regular practice of Muslims in Nigeria and indeed all over the world.

Muslims, even the supposedly good ones are in self-denial. And their usual line is "Islam is religion of peace" or "those killing are not true Muslims".

In every religion, there must be untrue adherents. The question, how come is only the untrue adherents that are killing in the name of their religion. Why are not the untrue adherents Christianity, Buddhism, Voodoo, Taoism, Kaballah, etc killing in the name of their religion. Even those practising Satanism don't do that. It's only in the so called religion of peace that you find this.

The foreigners churning out these negative 'studies' and 'surveys' will never tell you the OTHER facts readily observable when 'surveying' the nation.

For even if for argument's sake Nigeria is ''the most fraudulent nation in Africa'', it ALSO is

The nation with the highest number of university educated professionals in Africa.

The nation in Africa with the continent's largest middle class.

The nation with the most accomplished professionals in industry, science, sports and commerce on the continent.

The nation with the highest internet connectivity, and largest internet community in Africa.

The nation with Africa's No 1 Entertainment Industry, leading the continent unchallenged, in Film and Music.

The Number 1 Literary nation in Africa, producing a steady stream of world class authors, including the first black winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Africa's Number 1 Peacekeeping nation, with the most feared soldiers on the continent.

The foremost banking nation on the continent, exporting her first class financial services to several countries across the continent.

The only African nation with an indigenous vehicle manufacturing industry (INNOSON Motors)

The largest recipient of Foreign Direct Investment in Africa.

A nation that is among the ten fastest growing economies in the world with annual GDP growing at an unprecedented 7.2% per annum, the bulk of growth occurring in the non-oil sector - telecoms, banking, agriculture, manufacturing et al.

So we are No 1 in Africa in a GREAT MANY THINGS.
While you may have a point, but of what use is all those accolades while we continue to wallow in poverty in the midst of plenty.

These are things we like to use to deceive ourselves. Nigerians, we love self-denial sha.

Even the simplest of traffic violations, which sometime an alw abiding person can make through a moment mistake is 20k. Must every penalty be 20k. What happens to an offence being commensurate with the crime. Is that the way it's done in the other parts of the civilised world?

They are offences that shouldn't be more than 2k. At least for the first time of committing that offence. Sometimes people make honest mistakes on the road becos they are not familiar with an area, and the next thing, they are in 20k debt.
