Science/TechnologyRe: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by laposta: 9:59am On Feb 20, 2018
I am currently experiencing a particle buildup on the negative terminal of my deep cycle battery. I have had to clean it a number of times but it keeps building up. Now it appears that the capacity of the battery is getting weak.

What can I do to avert a total breakdown of the battery?

thanks the charger do accept 9volt-24 volt....and pls how about the Ah....will the Ah still be 1AH or less
You will end up getting 10.4v, 200ma from the two panels. I will argue that you're better off using the two panels in parallel and charging your battery with it steady. That way you will get 5.2v, 400ma which MAY just end up charging your battery faster than a 10.4v 200ma system.

Be open to trying both and sticking with what works better. Cheers

Will the battery be removed or it will still be there? can we have a diagram or picture of this stuff? more strength to your elbow.
The batteries will be removed. I understand his design fully. A general challenge with using DC appliances however, is that Voltage drops over long distances, especially with thin wires, So you may have to use a large diameter wire if you're wiring over a long distance.

ceejay80s - has your Suoer battery charger ever gotten damaged before? My 30A battery charger has stopped working yesterday, I called the man at mushin and he said 30A battery charger is now N13k (I bought it at N9k in May 2016).

I don't know if I should give the Suoer battery charger to fan repairers in my area if they can fix it?
Take it along with you to the seller at Mushin when you're going to buy a new one. He will check it and see if you can buy a spare of what got damaged in it.

Same thing happened to mine, I got a repairer to fix it. It worked for a couple of days and went bad again. The Mushin guy said I should not have given it to just anybody. So I'll advise you not to do the same.

@saint2face,teamsynergy,ceejay80s,valto and others gurus not mentioned (The guy that created the self-run ups )the setup is like this ---->200ah battery----->12volt brushless motor(rpm matters)------>50amps dc brushless alternator----->12volt 1500va ups------>50amps battery charger(the one use by automobile tech,950va generator power's this charger smoothly)---->to the 200ah battery.........this setup is for small scale enterprise *note*that 50amps chargers used by automobile tech has booster and blocking diode
He will achieve the same result and even better by simply attempting to plug the ups directly to the battery and plug the smart charget to the UPS, back to the battery. That way he will save the heat lost in the brushless motor and brushless alternator... grin

However, I postulated earlier, this set up would work for a few hours or even a few days but you will eventually kill the 200ah battery cos you're taking more energy from it than the 50amps battery charger can ever put back into it.

As long as components of the system generates heat, that heat is power lost in the system which means the system cannot be 100% effective. The system described above will run itself endlessly if it was 100% efficient (which is not practical). For you to now assume you can draw power from it to power your own lighting needs and still maintain the system means you expect the system to be more than 100% efficient.

Anyway, it will be good to debunk the myth of a "fueless" generator. So I will wish you success in your endeavour. Please share with us your story when you're done.

@laposta, thanks for the advice which i know you actually mean well and thus trying to save us stress but i think your analysis are flawed in some respect.

From my earlier post you can clearly see that what we were discussing was trying to get the best out of an already existing idea and trying to make it work for our own betterment.; Let's take your example for instance, if i were to use a solar panel setup as indicated in your post it is almost impossible to get 100% output from the system, i.e using a 100w panel to generate 100w of energy, we know theoretically it's not possible but can we max out at say 95% of the capacity? of course we can, it's all about using the right tools, though not cheap but nontheless effective, i would never use a pwm charge controller that would only give me 60% of my panel capacity when i can get almost 95% using an mppt charge controller.

Now let's not get it wrong, the essence of this discuss is not to state what is possible or not, but to see how we can modify an already existing system at least in theory and bring it to reality, for god sakes the guys who designed this models are people like us, so why do we limit ourselves because one professional mumu said it's not possible, my brother believe whatever u want to believe and i'll do the same, but my point is this that we can make this work all we need do is just think about it and design a new way of thinking.

At a point in time it was taboo for a woman to be seen as the breadwinner of a family or even see them in the corporate world, today they excel in everything and rival men in all spheres of life.

Now for your information, people here in nigeria are producing self looping generators, though crude but functional; the methodology could be improved on but it works all the same, i have a guy i met here on nairaland based in Makurdi that produces a perpetual motion magnetic generator, i have seen a working model but unlike popular belief u have to tweak somethings to get the final results but nontheless it works and he is only constrained by finance as everything is hand made, from positioning the magnets to producing the coils. Like i said it might not be a case of zero to hero but we can get from a farmer to a great warlord, the only restriction is ourselves.

Finally, let me use a small example to douse this argument, how is nuclear power produced? you blast a seemingly stable atom and it explodes causing an electromagnetic reaction that if well channeled produces energy, is that not a classic case of almost zero to hero.... Bros free ur mind and don't get trapped in the prison of ideologies and models made to restrict you from thinking outside the box.

If na for yankee the so called free thinker would have been employed to produce something extraordinary and tomorrow we'll give them a noble prize for science....... i rest my case... One Love
I wish you the best in your endeavour.

@saint2ace, @Feshizzy, @teamsynergy

I will encourage you to concentrate your energy in developing a low cost renewable energy for your use. Think about doing a wind generator from scraps, assemble your own solar panel, etc

By trying to generate for example 1.5kva (around 2hp) from a 1hp engine is trying to make a system more than 100% in terms of efficiency. That has not happened in the history of mankind.

If you use a 10W bulb to shine light on a 100W solar panel, you cannot get out up to 10W of energy from it. That solar panel you see itself i extracting around 6 times that energy (around 600W) from the sun to enable you get 100W from the panel. Asking it to do so on a light intensity from a 10W bulb is a NO-NO.

Please, take note that I am not saying your set up will not work. It will work but you will not get your desired output. Some of that energy will be lost to friction & heat.

I av been researching on making an efficient and cost-effective fueless and so called free energy...
1. am thinking of using the electric grinder the coblers use to smoothen shoes, to drive a 1.5 or 2kva gen coil. as the grinder drives the coil, it generate electricity and then gen in turn, it supply the grinder and the rest can be used to power ur home...not sure aw that is gonna work out though
..
2. using a 10watt fan to blow the wings of a wind turbine .... if it drives a 400watt turbine effectively, its gonna charge battery and power inverter and then power the fan and the home indefinitely....

I don't know if u guyz get the gist...
not sure if its gonna work well sha....
has anyone tried dis before?
valto, ceejay80s, bishop4life and everyone.......
Once you use Component A to drive Component B, Component B can NEVER get as much power as Component A produces.

Let me bring this in-line with your analogy.

In your first illustration, Let's assume the cobbler motor is 1hp, Let us also assume that you use your hand to crank it so you can start the 1.5kva coil (you actually have to crank it very fast to get out the required frequency but let's say you can crank it fast enough), the generator coil cannot deliver up to the 1hp (746 Watts) the cobbler is producing at max power output due to heat loss. So, all the power the generator is producing cannot drive the cobble motor, not to talk of leaving a balance for your house needs.

In your second illustration, a 10w fan can NEVER blow enough air energy (without the aid of nature's air - a lot of that) to drive a 400w wind turbine. Even if the 400 watts turbine turns, it will not generate enough energy to power the fan in return.

So, there is no free energy anywhere. Everything you read on the internet about it is a hoax. I have done so too in he past and gave up when I realised that you cannot get something out of nothing. The best you can do is to harness nature itself - sun, wind, water, etc to generate power.

The egg is produced in stages before being finally covered by the shell. Maybe this egg skipped a stage. It could be that the albumen is missing. Another thing that can cause small eggs is if the hen just started laying.
You're right to an extent but from experience small eggs like that are as a result of an almost non-existent yolk.

Thanks in advance for honest answers as I await it.
Freezer alone (I hope it's not a massive freezer...lol). And the thermostat must be deactivated. The starting current of the compressor is about 8 times the rated current. you don't want the freezer going on and off on the UPS repeatedly.

The reason you may not be able to use the fridge is that you cannot deactivate the thermostat of a fridge fully. It will still start/stop at intervals.

So far so good, everything is working perfectly, I believe the charge controller is MPPT as stated on the carton, I don't know what type of test I can carry out to confirm.
The inverter automatically stops supplying power and the fault light starts blinking anytime you overload, it then rectifies after disconnecting the overload and restarting the inverter itself.
what's the maximum current of charging you have witnessed? If it has been a maximum of 11A, then it is not truly MMPT. However, if you have achieved a charging amperage above 11A (probably as high as 16A) , then I suppose it is truly MMPT.

Between, can you post a picture of your charge controller please? I'm looking to buy one soon.

I think it has to do more with the maintenance cum cost of replacing damage parts.
The above reason in addition to durability.
No one wants to buy a new Innoson car for N3.5m a asked to bring N1.5m to replace a damaged gear box.
Oga Ben should have advised his fellow senator to go the Innoson way for their exotic BNWs.
Innonson has a 3-year (you got that right) warranty on engine, axle, and gear box. I guess that should douse any fears one might have with the durability of their mainframe.

Hi guys, Pls I need your advice.
Just procured the ffg
- 1.5va 24v inverter
- 2 x 220ah tubular batteries
To charge this I supported it with 2 x 250 watts solar panels and 40A PWC controller.
My observation : battery never fully charged with a load of a mid size freezer from 8am- 4m.

Pls what do I need to add for battery to be fully charged for evening according to the above.
An mppt controller or additional solar panels.
Thnks
A MMPT controller will you you a lot of good. That's the first step before attempting to increase anything. the max you'll get out of your solar panels is around 14A. Solar panel will put out 36v, 14A. PWC controller brings that down to 24v, 14A

Your freezer (I assume around 100w) will be taking around 5A from the array,, leaving you with a mere 24v 8A to charge your batteries. It will take you around 25 hours of sunshine hours to fully charge your batteries.

A MMPT controller will take your 36v, 14A and concert it to 24v, 21A. If you take out the 5A the freezer runs on, you'll be left with 16A which will fully charge your battery in about 13 hours of sunshine.

If you want to take your expansion further than that, you'll need to add two more solar panels.

Someone has asked me this question and I thought I'd bring it to all the gurus in the house.

If money was not a constraint and someone wanted to get at a minimum a 5kVA solar setup which would last as long as the widely proclaimed 25 years, what make/brand and setup of equipment(Solar panels, inverter, batteries, charger etc) would you advice him to get and from where?

The market is so flooded nowadays with different products and with only word of mouth reviews from users, its difficult to know which is good.

Our gurus - over to you please.
Only solar panels are purported to last that long (in theory). Inverter, batteries, etc cannot last that long. That being said, solar panels have to be the ones manufactured in USA or Europe as opposed to the ones manufactured in China. Of course, the China ones come cheaper but eh... grin

and what is the Max? 30A? that's 12v * 30A = 360 watts. Let's say 400 watts to cater for heat losses. I don't think a 2.5kva generator would shake with a 400watts load. I mean, I use the generator for my 1200watts iron when PHCN misbehaves.

Don't try that. A solar panel has a very wide voltage range. A charge controller helps narrow it down so you don't damage your battery. You also have to be careful when installing. Get a professional to do it for you to forestall any risk of electrocution.
