PoliticsRe: REJOINDER: Buhari Social Program: Laudable, Laughable Or Dead On Arrival? by laposta: 9:35am On Apr 20, 2015
I thought APC manifesto said they were going the pay the N5,000 to 25 million Nigerians MONTHLY? While the program can be phased, it still remains a recurring expenditure and as such it will increase every year till the 25 million Nigerians are reached.

I think APC's social programs are dead water. If they're able to plug all the leaks in government revenue sources, it will be folly to then expend it all on social welfare. What will happen to the mammoth infrastructure upgrade they promised us?

I prefer the plastic ones. They are easier to clean but less durable compared to the aluminium ones.

@SGN

Don't do it that way. If a bulk buyer does not honour his or her purchase in any one week, you will be running around to spread out the massive stock you have on hand.

You can work with one bulk buyer and so many other buyers that can help absorb the shock if the bulk buyer disappoints.

@ tucurj

That concentrate is designed for 60% Maize & 40% concentrate. If you want to mix a bag of concentrate, you have to use 25kg x 60%/40% = 37.5kg maize.

Cheers

Hi House,
This thread has always been up to date.. So let me share my story as well. After reading from thread 1 to 85. I was fully charged. I got acres of land. Clear like 2acres and build pen house...
Then stock 3200 layers and 150broilers.. The first Night I lost like 70, due to the birds clustering together to generate heat because the heat was not enough... (Don't reply on bulb...I used 20 200W bulb) So i changed to charcoal and the mortality was reduced. Now the birds are going to 5weeks and they are all doing find in all i didnt loose upto 100.
Note this is a summarise write up. I just need to share too. I am not relying on what i have read... I employed an experienced farm manager, and attendants. All vaccination went well, gomboro, lasota, etc...
So guyz see pics below. I have left the farm like 3weeks now and by Saturday i will visit again...
Is it a nylon covering you have on the shed at the back in the first pic?

@laposta

Many thanks for the shared info.

I would try to utilise these info in my farm layout and subsequent construction.

I had thought that a 40ft by 120ft pen would accomodate 5,000 layers but from what you gave this might not be possible.
Well, if you can make it two pens of 120ft by 25ft each with a 4ft space in between them, you can house about 3,600 birds altogether (15 cages per pen and 120 birds per cage).

Where is your farm located? What's the size of your land? I could help you set it up (Farm Layout design, Pen construction, Cage Purchase and Fitting, etc) for a reasonable fee. Feel free to reach out to me on hola-ologe@hotmail.com

There are no hard and fast rules. See my comments below

segun1976:
Hello house. Really learnt a lot from following the discussions here. I'm in the middle of plans to kick-off my poultry farm and need information in respect of the farm layout.

1. What is the advisable optimal dimensions of a poultry pen (battery cage)? A cage is about 8 feet wide. If you plant to do two rows, 26 feet is okay IMO
2. Is it advisable to have more than 2 rows of cage in a pen? No, except you will be using a form of forced ventilation e.g. exhaust fans
3. What is the optimal spacing between to pens? 4 Feet is enough
4. What is the advisable distance between a pen and the fence. 4 feet is also enough but you can allow more than if you have lots of space but if it is more than 6 feet, I'll say you're not utilizing your space optimally
5. What is the required spacing between the pen walls and the cage rows in the pen? Pen wall and Cage - 3 feet; Between Cages - 4 feet. With the assumption that the block your pen wall is more than two coaches high

I believe the layout/spacing would go a long way to affect productivity.

Please enlighten me.

I am asking for a quote here.
Price per unit varies depending on the number of units you're interested in purchasing and cost of transportation depends on the location you're transporting to.

As a result of these, it may be impractical to give a quote here. But as in indication, a locally assembled cage with 120 birds capacity cost N55,000. That's the market rate but you'll surely get a discount if you part with more details regarding your needs.

Please send an email to hola-ologe@hotmail.com

We look forward to hear from you.

I av actually increased it to 250 kg per week. I can't afford more than that. They r actually 192 birds
Guess you've made the error from when they were Day Old chicks. Broilers have a marginal rate in weight gain. They lose their ability to gain considerable weight as they grow older. You should feed them ad libtum from DOC till you get your market weight.

Cut your losses and move on. Next time, rear inky what you can afford to feed fully (no rationing). Note that it will take you around 6-7 weeks to attain 2kg weight and they should have co aimed between 3.8kg - 4.5kg of feed in that time frame depending on your level of skill in their management.

All the best

I NEED URGENT HELP ON BROILER HATCHING!
Good morning all. I built chicken eggs
incubator and I have tested and hatched my
first batch of eggs successfully from local hens
eggs (9 out of 10 eggs). Please I want to know;
how do I get broiler eggs coz I intend going
into hatchery. I'm in Port Harcourt and no
farms around has fertile eggs to sell for me, so
how do I go about it. Thanks!
You may need to raise your own breeders...Male and female broilers who will mate and give you fertile eggs. It's not an ABC thing, you must be ready to perfect the act...
