Two hours....Resumed at 8am, sacked myself at 10am. Funny thing is that it was my first job post-NYSC. Had resumed on a Monday with the intention on pushing for a pay rise. MD/CEO introduced me to other staff during the weekly Monday meetings and they all welcomed be on board. I walked into the MD's office shortly after to sign the offer letter with the hope that I would renegotiate the terms. She refused to bulge on her terms and told me I could walk away from the offer if I felt it wasn't right for me. I signed the letter under some form of pressure and I left her office I was given my desk, my PC, a writing pad and a pen subsequently and just before my system would finish booting, I asked to see her again. After some time, she requested my presence and I apologized for signing the offer letter earlier as I wasn't thinking rightly. I withdrew my commitment to the offer terms and she gladly shook my hands and wished me the best in my endeavours. My friend who introduced me to her boss was shocked to the marrow but I had no time to explain to her on the spot. I had to leave in a hurry and explained via email later. 5 Likes |

Only 52% of all revenues accruing to FG's coffers belong to the FG...the balance is shared between the States and LGs. Perhaps you need to take 52% of N8 trillion and see where it puts the FG... 1 Like |

Source of extra heat is non-negotiable. If you're in d North, you may not need that fduring the day but at night, you'll surely need extra heat, even in d north |

Nacre1: I'm sorry about the challenge you are facing but I must confess, it appears you have overdosed them with antibiotics. Giving antibiotics for two weeks is a clear case of abuse and please do not do so again. That being said, here are the things I believe you can do... 1.) Separate all birds that are infected from the others that look healthy. 2.) Ensure that you have enough space for your birds. Respiratory diseases thrive more when the birds don't have enough space. Please don't assume they have enough. Just increase the space they have access to if you can... 3.) If you can afford a lab test, take a few of the sick ones to the laboratory for test. 4.) Give them a break from antibiotics for at least a week while you try to look for enrofloxacin...a popular brand of enrofloxacin is Conflox. 5.) Administer according to recommended dosage. Stop administering after five days even if the symptoms of the disease does not stop. Remember, you cannot cure a viral disease. Most respiratory diseases (including cold and cattarh in humans) are caused by viral infection. The can only be prevented through vaccination. However, once a flock is affected, the only way is to allow the birds fight off the disease themselves. However, you can help the birds manage other diseases that may want do an "attache" to the viral disease through the use of antibiotics. 4 Likes |

Nacre1: Sounds like Coryza to me. First things first, separate all sick birds from the flock. You can manage it with any antibiotics with Enrofloxacin along with multivitamin. However, it is worth noting that infected birds remain carriers for life. 1 Like |

b2020: As earlier advised, do not repeat the Lasota until another Lasota is due. Personally, I'm not a fan of using antibiotics except when absolutely necessary so I would say you use an iodine based disinfectant (Polidine or Iodosteryl) in their drinking water. You may want to combine with Orego-Stim liquid to help prevent some bacterial infections that may want to come on board due to the low immune period they're going through |

jamp: Milling your own feed is the way to go IMO...you may want to experiment by dividing your birds into two groups...monitor rate of lay for a while (say two weeks) and then swap one group to your milled feed while keeping the other on ready made feed...then compare rates of lay over two weeks again The only source of worry over quality is toxins in the maize. You cal always add an antitoxin to the feed or use Superliv/Bioliv for every month. Cheers 2 Likes |

Over the weekend, I stumbled on a news piece titled Naira may be devalued again – Report. While I belong to the school of thought that devaluation of a country’s currency is not necessarily a bad policy, the timing of this macro-economic tool has to be a key consideration in its implementation. Although, I must state here that nothing in the aforementioned article points in the direction of the contents being the position of the new administration, a news item backed by a report from Renaissance Capital cannot be wished away as a mere conjecture. The article (and in a larger context, the report) stated that the “All Progressives Congress comes in with a macro policy that requires a much weaker naira, i.e. an export-led growth policy” The newly installed APC-led Federal Government had committed, in one of its numerous campaign promises, that the current valuation of the Naira against the US Dollar (and in essence, other foreign currencies) is unacceptable. I’m sure this statement by President Buhari during his campaign cannot be interpreted to mean anything other than the fact that his administration (if voted in, which has now come to be) is committed to a regime of exchange rate stability or appreciation of the Naira against other basket of currencies. On a personal note, I will not hold brief for the Buhari-led government to achieve a stable exchange rate over the next four years because of the touchy relationship between oil prices, reserves accretion and the value of the Naira. In a more in-depth explanation, a growing economy like Nigeria’s with huge level of imports (growing imports) has to deplete its reserves (sell more dollars into the system on a net basis) to keep exchange rate stable if oil prices are held constant (rate of dollar supply to foreign reserves remain unchanged). Of course, if oil prices improve over the next four years, the dynamics of the analysis made earlier is distorted but industry experts are not expecting to see crude oil back to US$80/bbl. any time soon. @jamp @eggcelent Theoretically (according to most management guides I have read), Chicks from 0-7 weeks cannot regulate their feed intake i.e. they eat all they see available. This is the reason why a nutrient dense diet is fed to help their organs grow quickly However, from 7 weeks, they are able to regulate their feed intake according to their energy needs. The reason why it is advised that a nutrient light diet is fed (grower mash) is because the bird will tend to eat more thus enlarging the size of the crop. A large crop helps a bird store more feed for its energy needs at night. It is important for a pullet to have a well developed crop by the time it starts laying in order to keep it's laying potential at optimal levels as laying an egg takes a lot of work and nutrient away from the bird. If you decide to revert to starer mash at this point, the bird will not consume enough feed to enlarge it's crop in preparation for the laying phase although the nutrient dense diet may aid its weight gain but you will eventually make them perform at sub-optimal levels when they start laying. Birds that are underweight will catch up with their peers in the long run. They will only start to lay at a much older age than their peers. What you can do to save prepare them better for the advanced age at first lay is to separate them and keep giving them grower mash till the reach the required body weight i.e. do not switch them to layer feed along with the others. All the best. 1 Like |

Change2015: It will be pertinent to take a look at APC roadmap and see what they wrote by themselves. I did not write it. THEY DID Page 4 reads in part, "Direct conditional monthly cash transfers of NGN5,000 to the 25 million poorest and most vulnerable citizens upon demonstration of children’s enrolment in school and immunization, to help promote job empowerment". this statement did not appear just once in the road map. It appears again on page 14 word for word, so I will assume it was not a typographical error. I understand the word phasing very well and if I juxtapose what the VP elect said and what was written in the manifesto. It means that they will start the payment from say 5 million Nigerians. At this point, the scheme will cost the FG N25 billion MONTHLY (emphasis on the word monthly). If in the second year, they ramp up to 10 million Nigerians, the scheme will cost FG N50 billion MONTHLY. By the time they get to 25 million Nigerians, the scheme will cost the FG N125 billion Monthly. There is no where in the document or in the VP-elect's discuss on Channels to show that the N5,000 will only be given to the individual once. |
