Given where we were using borrowed money to pay subsidy, using loans and reserves to defend Naira you don't need to be a cleric to know that is not sustainable, it's like taking loans to maintain a fake life. The weaning period will be hard but what will make sure we have a sustainable long term result is how we adopt to the new realities, but if we take away one subsidy and replace with another one it's going to be the same. Things like forcing a dead NNPC to work instead of selling it, things like pouring money into a dead Ajaokuta just because we want to uphold the fake belief that we are a somehow rich nation who can afford a welfare state

We have a very small window of getting it right, our choices are limited and very hard

Tinubu can either take the bullet and do the hard stuff or just appease and kick the can down the road for the next administration
That's why it's important to communicate in clear terms the plans that the govt are taking.

It is easier when you know a plan is in motion to stable and fix issues than when you don't even know the direction the govt is facing.

Tinubu campaigned for the job no matter how hard it is and it is imperative that he performs. I really hope he does.

Do you still agree with the last part of his tweet saying we should have subsidised quality education? 😁
In an hypothetical scenario where you have to chose between subsidised quality education and plane tickets, I'll always pick the subsidised quality education.

Though I'm still trying to understand how that last line fit to the context of his argument.

The money saved from subsidy is what is being used to pay salary now. Without subsidy removal there was a risk of salary default.

Nigeria has gotten bad and Tinubu was the best option among the main candidates to have any chance of reversing the woes
The CBN needs to release a policy statement on this forex issue so we can know what they are doing to stable the ship. At least that way people will know if this is just temporary suffering or shege pro max still dey front.

I like the fact that Cardoso says during his senate screening that will CBN under him will revert back to its core mandate of monetary policy while all the interventionist agenda will be discontinued. I think it's part of what form the basis of removing those 43 banned items, the FG can now decide to increase their import duties and tariffs on those items to discourage importation.

I hear Atiku Bagudu saying they the exchange rate that will be used for 2024 budget is 700/dollar and I'm wondering how they intend to achieve it.

This is getting ridiculous because it seems you are deliberately being unreasonable.

Are we currently in campaign period? Or is reading a challenge to you? During campaign there's no way a candidate can disassociate from the failures or success of the party he's campaigning on because that will effectively be demarketing the party close to election but as soon as elections are over, each candidate will want to stand clear of his predecessor and everyone will answer their father's name.

Obi was Governor under APGA, when Soludo the current Gov under APGA was campaigning, was he not saying sweet things about Obi? Was he not the same person that was using his own mouth to castigate the same Obi after he won election under APGA?

I don't have the time for the back n forth abeg. If you still want to intentional do as if my post are written in Latin, let's just end the discussion here.

I was never talking the forex market issue with you.

These are your words below, implying that the new administration can blame the past administration for the ways things are in the country. That is you trying to disassociate Buhari's failures from Tinubu's actions, now you're turning around to say you agree that Tibubu should be judged with Buhari's legacy.

So which one? Should a distinction be made between Tinubu's government and Buhari's government or we should take one's failure as another's, stemming from the same party?

That's beeb my ish with you.
Are you the same person as Ellexy? You quoted my post on forex issue but you are not talking about forex issue. Lmao.

Tinubu govt is different from Buhari govt even while they are under the same party. You can go back to my response to Ellexy, you can be in the same party with someone and can have different views and ways on how to get things done.

In response to you, I told you that during "campaigns" there's no way Tinubu want to disassociate from Buhari failure as he will be campaigning under the umbrella of the party, so the electorate will want to judge the party APC as whole, I then said its left to Tinubu to tell the electorate what he will do differently if elected.

What I agreed with in your past sentence is that you can choose to just blame APC in general.

It's as simple as ABC.

If you buy Cement at 3500 in Edo state, and pay a truck almost a million or more to transport it to Lagos, how can you sell it 3,500 again?[/color]

https://www.nairaland.com/7882080/how-much-bua-cement-area
I think we had this argument here before.

The only person that can reduce price of cement and it will have some impact is Dangote.

BUA should've actually specified that the price that he reduced is the factory price and that most retailers still has to include their own cost and profit mark up.

?? ??

So what have you been arguing since, lmao?

Has your point not been about the current administration criticising the past administration?
That's what happens when you jumping into a conversation without actually understanding what you are jumping into.

My point about the forex market issue was clear, I did not stop or argue with anyone that's blaming APC rule from Buhari to Tinubu. I only pointed out that Buhari administration did actually dry up our reserve defending the naira and even had to borrow money to keep defending the naira. It makes no sense to continue on that path especially as doing that keeps swallowing our revenue.

If you want to blame APC rule from Buhari to Tinubu, do that, I'm not arguing or stopping you from doing that. Alot of people have been doing that here and you dont see me telling me not to do so.

I have criticized Tinubu when I think he has gotten a policy wrong or done something I dont like. Likewise I'll state my opinion on issues and if possible proffer whatever solutions I can here (it's not as if the FG is coming here to look for solutions anyways cheesy

Nobody is going to bully me into silence on this thread. It's not going to happen.

My point?

That the failures of a party cannot be dissociated from the individuals that make it up as a rule.

It is natural for opposition members and lay citizens who are not affiliated with any party to blame APC. But Tinubu? Why? When he is literally representative of that party at the highest level.

I can even excuse differences in APC's local government chairmen and APC's presidents. But from one APC president to 'another?'

No. I am judging Tinubu's presidency by Buhari's failure, and one of the reasons why is because they came from the same party.
You don dey give me headache like this.

I did not stop you or anyone from blaming Buhari, Tinubu or APC.

Even during the campaign I stated it here clearly that the electorate will judge Tinubu using Buhari scorecard since they belong to the same party and that it's only left to Tinubu to proof that he's different from Buhari.

At your last paragraph, there's nothing wrong with doing that.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 9:40am On Oct 20, 2023
Magnoliaa:
So you're telling me that as at the time Buhari was propped up by APC, there was no indication that he would be a total failure?

A political party is bla bla bla, but you will drag Obi for changing parties. Why? Because you someone believe that political members share values and ideologies, so they'll rub off each other.

LMAO.

Every campaign period and materials are always based on the fact of what a party has achieved THROUGH an individual.

I know you do not disassociate GEJ's failures from PDP. When you want to criticise PDP, you will call them by their name, and you will judge everyone they bring forward by their party's antecedents and performance in every other states.

But Buhari picked people within the party not so? If Buhari picked people who are equally as inept as he is, which would call into question the kind of people APC is filled with, why should we trust their recommendation of any candidate?

When a candidate does well, do you think their performance is only their own benefits and their cabal?
Can you get to the point of your argument exactly? Peter Obi himself said in an interview that theres no difference between the 3 parties APC, PDP and LP in terms of ideologies. Do you want to fight him also?

I've never stopped anyone from blaming Buhari and APC or Tinubu and APC. Everyone here has been blaming APC here since, did I tell anyone not to blame APC but Buhari?

I dont even understand all these argument ffs.

Shey you know there's already a policy that states that IMTOs must not go beyond a set percentage of the I&E window. They are openly flouting it and CBN seems powerless to stop them.

So when you ask the CBN to bring them in and they refuse because there's no incentive like I said, the next thing I believe is for CBN to ban them.

That will only make the already bad situation worse. People will find alternate ways to move money and it still won't pass through CBN.

That's the way I see it.
The CBN controls the monetary system of the country, they can get things done if they want to.

Tinubu campaigned for the job and he has appointed Cardoso to head the CBN, they should fix it. Let's see their short, medium and long term plan.

It's simple, the blame game is lame and only an administration without plan will continue to throw blame while everything keeps getting worse under their watch.

Tinubu told us he'll continue Buhari' legacy where he stopped. He said Buhari has led a good foundation for a prosperous Nigeria and he's coming to take it to the next level..... Why are they now blaming themselves this early morning? Did Buhari scam Tinubu or what?

Yes?? Because we practice a party-system of governance! Not a zero party that allows individuals to campaign and contest alone!!

Fgs, WHY didn't APC field in their best men? Why? They are a party and that is what they campaign with. Their collective success and losses. If I moved to APC today and I get elected as a governor under them, due to their clout, it will be stupid for them to turn around and disassociate from me when I fail.

Like, why didn't they do their due diligence??

Does a president work alone? Why didn't YOUR party push the best men forward to work with Buhari?

If Buhari blamed GEJ's government, and now Tinubu is blaming Buhari's government, are you not seeing a trend with the APC party itself?
This doesn't make sense one bit.

You can be in a party and have different views and ways about how to do something whether policy direction or whatever. It is not the party that was giving Buhari people to work with, it is Buhari choosing who he wants to work with, same way Tinubu is choosing who he wants to work with at the moment.

A political party is a vehicle to carry out political ambition. Nothing more, nothing else.

But what is the incentive for the IMTOs? The CBN needs them, what do they need CBN for?
They don't need any incentive. It's a matter of policy. Also CBN is their regulator, their operations will always reflect the policy of the CBN.

The current policy is that IMTOs source for their own dollar. Most of the IMTOs source for dollars from the parallel market. The CBN needs to change that policy.

You'll notice that most of these IMTOs exchange rate always mirror the parallel market rate because that's where they mostly source their forex from.
