swiz123: If you have traveled to many states in Nigeria, you will realize that language is nothing but a means to communicate your thoughts. As long as your target audience understands you, the work of language is done.
If you think it is much more than this, start typing in Yoruba and see if any non Yoruba person here will bother to engage you. Wait for it. |

afrodoc2: There are levels to difficulty. Ijesha might be hard for you to speak as a non-Ijesha but if spoken to you there will be a good level of understanding. Compare that to some dialects in Ondo State and Kogi where they will plan to sell you off into slavery while standing beside you and you won't have a clue at all.
Ife, Ijesha, Ekiti are relatively close. I couldn't differentiate between Ijesha and Ekiti when i was a kid. Walai to understand na war. I actually went to the village and their version of Yoruba na something else. No ne these modernized one wey we dey speak. While I can hear bit by bit, it was a big challenge understanding them clearly. |

BlueRayDick: Ah, maybe okun is different from okun o.
We get one family friend that year, the man and woman have a large number of their nieces and nephews who come from village and stay with them from time to time. When those people start talking in their dialect u will struggle to make sense out of it in Yoruba. It's the same way Ijesha is easy for you and hard for me. |

BlueRayDick: This is very true !
My former MD is from Ondo State ; Ilaje side. If he speaks his local dialect, u won't even understand anything at all.
A former colleague too is from Ondo; Akoko side.... Her own dialect too is totally different and my MD does not understand it.
Then we have another person who is from Ondo town, her own dialect too is different from those two aforementioned.
All 3 are from the same Ondo State. Owo dialect is still there o. Lmao. The thing funny. Our learned man here has little to no idea how big Nigeria and its language are. People who decided to stick to a universal language as the official language knows what they are doing. |

I wanted to learn Igbo when I was in Ebonyi, I was told their dialect is different from the mainstream igbo. They said I should go learn mainstream Igbo (whatever that means). Even Igbos that we were posted to Ebonyi struggle to understand those Ebonyi dialect.
People have no idea how multi lingual Nigeria is. |

I don't think inflation was at zero before Buhari banned those items. After the ban is lifted and we enjoy the relief for a while, dollar will still go back to where it was. History will always show us that.
My condolences to those who are producing tomato paste here. [/color] Well the govt can always intervene directly to these manufacturing companies who are actually producing something. Relief for them might be in form of grants, waivers and the likes. |

Itsrm: People who need items that were not banned by the CBN can't get FX from them. Where will the Fx now come from to meet the new demand?
The liquidity in the I&E window is low and has been going down. That is why people who want to import items not banned by the CBN are turning to the black market. Only way this works is for the CBN to massively pump FX into the I&E window but we all know they don't have it.
Again, I'm not an economist so they probably know better. One thing I'm still waiting for CBN to do is to bring fintech into the forex space. Bring Flutterwave, Wise and the likes into the market and license them. These Fintech companies process alot of forex transaction especially for inflows (diaspora remittance) which will bring the needed liquidity into the market. It might also be time to look at how the FG can work with Binance. |
