Ibime:If you look at Ganduje infrastructure development drive in Kano and some of his policies, you will feel pity for him that what he will be most remembered for is that dollar stuffing video. |
raumdeuter:Ambode was a disaster in Lagos, he set the state backward from where Fashola left it. If not for Ambode, the blue line would have been completed by now. Sanwoolu says it will be completed by 2022. Hopefully it finally comes to reality. Even the proposed Lekki seaport is just turninoninown I don’t know what’s wrong with Buhari that he hasn’t sent back the Special Corruption Court Bill back to NASS. The bill was rejected by the Saraki led senate. hopefully with the Lawan led senate, the bill will be passed and we can have fast trail of corruption cases. |
@ raumdueter Thank you for that post. I remember the discussion I had here with Nihilist and I was trying to explain to him that if Nigeria will develop, state government will play the major role since they are the one closer to the masses than Abuja. Just go and Ebonyi and see the wonderful work the Governor is doing. I remember telling diggz 2 years ago that Umahi is doing is tremendous job in Ebonyi because I could see what he was doing while serving there. We have squandered our oil boom and now is the time we will pay for those resources our political elite wasted. The truth is that we cannot continue to do things they way they are. To get to where we want to, we need massive investment in infrastructure and a departure from how we behave and think as a nation. Look at the attached pics, look at the economic growth since we returned to democracy. From 2010 - 2015 oil was selling for $100 and above per barrel, oil benchmark was $70 per barrel, what happened to the excess crude funds? Did this oil boom translate to unprecedented infrastructure investment? Even when we were enjoying oil boom, the economy was stagnant and even dropping. As at Nov 2014, Nigeria started borrowing money to pay salaries of worker. There’s no need lamenting about what is wrong, let’s talk about what this present admin has been doing to resolve some of this underlying issues. Let’s start with railway. The Lagos to Ibadan railline track is completed. Test running is currently on going and hopefully the main stations will be completed ASAP also. The rail is suppose to stop at Iddo but the government changes the design to connect Apapa port to the rail line and a dry sea port at the other end in Ibadan to decongest Lagos port. After the commissioning of Lagos-Ibadan for full operation, The Ibadan to Kano rail line will start. That’s affectively connecting Lagos to Kano. Itakpe - Warri narrow gauge line is also completed. The rail line will serve as a way to get iron ore to Ajaokuta plant. It will also carry passengers. In the $22.7bn loan, there’s provision for the Lagos - Calabar railine. There’s also Port Harcourt to Maiduguri. The plan is to have a central line and a coastal line. The coastal line will run from Calabar to Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt will then connect with the Warri - Itakpe line which will connect to thto central line to Abuja. I remember the controversy that trail the sukuk bonds and the shouts of Islamization, this bond was used for several road projects in the 6 geographical location. North Central: The construction of Lokoja-Benin road, Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja road section one, three and section four and Construction of Oju-Loko-Oweto Bridge over River Benue. North East: Dualization of Kano to Maiduguri road section two, three, four and five. North West: Dualisation of Kano to Katsina road phase one, dualisation of Suleja to Minna roads in Niger state, Phase two, Construction of Kano Western bypass and the construction of Kaduna Eastern by-pass road. South East: Rehabilitation of Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriage way section two, Onitsha to Enugu expressway, Enugu to Port Harcourt dual carriageway section one, and three. South South: Dualization of Yenegwe to Kolo to Otuoke to Bayelsa palm road. Rehabilitation of Enugu to Port Harcourt road section four and the dualisation of Lokoja to Benin road section two, three and four and five. South West: Reconstruction and asphalt overlay of Benin to Ofosu to Ore to Ajebandele to Shagamu dual carriageway phase three and four. Dualisation of Ibadan to Ilorin road section two. The Second Niger bridge is finally becoming a reality while the Lagos - Ibadan expressway is finally nearing completion. These projects are being funded by Presidential Infrastructure Development Funds. The Govt also gave Dangote tax break to construct the Apapa - Badagry expressway. Buhari signs the NFIU bill which mandates that Local Government Funds will be paid directly to local government account instead of paying it into the state government account as it was done before. The question is, how many people are holding their elected LG officials to account? Jan this year, Buhari signs the Finance bill 2020, while the bill has many objective and talking points, what the media amplify was the VAT increase from 5% to 7.5% Let’s take a look at the finance bill and the changes: VAT increase from 5% - 7.5% There will be no VAT on food and dairy products Companies with turnover of less than N25 million a year will not pay Company Income Tax Companies that earn between N25 million – N100 million annually will pay 20 per cent of their profit as CIT. Companies with annual income in excess of N100 million annually will pay 30per cent of their profit as CIT Tax on dividends is no longer applicable. GEJ admin set up NCDC in 2011 yet it was Buhari that sent an executive bill to the senate in 2018. The NCDC Act was signed into law in Nov 2018, 7 years after GEJ create the agency. Prior to the bill, NCDC has no legal backing from the government. There’s so much I can talk about ranging from security, healthcare, economy, infrastructure or even agriculture that the Buhari admin is working on but the rot is deep that anyone that thinks Buhari admin will solve this issue overnight is joking. The question then is, what exactly are the state government doing with their allocations?

Greatihex: Victornezzar:Lol. There are lots of things I criticized Ambode for and even the beginning of Sanwoolu tenure, I equally criticize Ajimobi in Ibadan and Amosun in Ogun. You can ask anybody in Ogun State why they call Amosun Abeokuta Governor. I criticize Garba Shehu when he did that useless conference at the beginning of this corona virus. Heck, I have even criticized Buhari himself. That I belong to a party doesn’t mean I don’t disagree sometimes with the elected leaders from the party. I don’t think I’ve criticize any PDP Governor on this platform sef. The joke however is on you guys who claim to be non partisan but turn a blind eyes whenever it doesn’t have to do with Buhari and APC. |
eph12:I don’t think so. SA to a governor will use equipment bought by another state govt which they shared on Twitter and use it the next day claiming his own governor just bought them? |
eph12:A very good response from Makinde. It was an unacceptable mistake from an SA. |
Meanwhile NIMR is still conducting drive through testing at Yaba in Lagos. Because of the lock down and social distancing, you have to fill a form to request for one. Below is the link. http://nimr.covid.com.ng You can share it around to people in Lagos. Testing is absolutely free. |
afrodoc2:In 2016, Ajimobi introduced 1k per term (3k yearly) fee for students in secondary schools in the state and he reintroduced mock waec for SS3 students in the state. The plan is that govt will only pay WAEC fees for student who are serious and show effort in the mock exams. With about 400k student in the state, that’s about 1.2bn every year added to the state IGR. 2019 when Seyi Makinde was sworn in, he immediately declared free education in the state (he stopped the 1k fee per term) and everyone went into jubilation. Few months later, reality dawn on them when’s Makinde declared that WAEC fee is not in his Free Education policy. That it’s the sole responsibility of parents or guidance. WAEC fee is 16,500. ![]() So basically, he stopped them from paying 3k so they could pay 16,500. Let’s not even talk about the loss in IGR.The same Seyi Makinde claimed Ajimobi did ceremonial commissioning of The Abiola Ajimobi Maternal and Paediatric Centre in Olodo. Fast forward to last week, the same center is the state isolation center in Ibadan. Seyi Makinde then remove the signage of the center and says Ajimobi has no right to name the center after himself because he built it with public funds. Lol |
Eruditor:He sacked the SA on media the following day. ![]() |
raumdeuter:You will wait tire. ![]() |
Bville02:Lol. OK. |
Greatihex:The present federal government has not done what? |
obainojazz:Lol. You can never wake up someone who’s pretending to be asleep. |
ToyinDipo:Oya list the things Seyi Makinde has done as Executive Gov. don’t worry about what others say, just list his achievement in office thus far. |
Greatihex:?? And if you are talking about government, specify the government you are talking about. As far as Nigeria is concerned, government includes every leader starting from the President to councilor in LG. |
afrodoc2:Someone that a market was razed down by fire in Ibadan, he visited the scene 4 days later, took some pictures where he was hugging one of the victims of the fire outbreak and his handlers posted the picture on Twitter and everywhere erupts with praises on how he’s a never seen before politician showing empathy. ![]() |
afrodoc2:What’s happening in Oyo is the more you look, the less you see. You can ask them the things he has done in Oyo State that gives him the active and performing governor tag. ![]() |
Bville02:LOL |
UCH CMD has now tested negative to Covid-19 just 7 days after testing positive. |
A40:Ok. |
A40:Let’s take a step back, what’s your point gan gan? Pls kindly explain maybe I’m not understanding you, let me see from your point of view. |
Ibime:Of course, there are ICU in Nigeria but I dont know their capacity. afrodoc2 and Unlimited22 are in the best position to answer that. We have shortage of ventilators in viz a vis our population, no one is denying that. The crux of the matter is that, is govt wrong trying to get more ventilators now? Should the fact that they didn’t get it before stop them from getting now? Me I don’t understand this one again. |
A40:Calm down bros. I don’t think we have ever been in this situation before in our entire history as a country. I don’t think we have ever been in a situation where we lack ventilators in the country. afrodoc2 & Unlimited22 can shed more light on that. This is not even about defending the govt, shouldn’t the govt be making efforts to get ventilators anywhere they can get? Is it until we have a spike in cases before they start looking for ventilators? |
A40:So because we have a long history of squandering resources, we shouldn’t ask for ventilators when someone has enough to give out? Because I’m not understanding your point gan gan. The current reality is that we don’t have up to 500 ventilators in the whole country, maybe we should wait till people starts dieing before we start looking for where to get ventilators. |
A40:The problem with critics is that you people conflate issues together. It’s not like the $27bn loan was just considered today. When that loan package was drawn up, there was no covid-19 pandemic. Go and read up the history of the loan. The initial loan FG sought approval for was $30bn from the Saraki led senate and only $7.3bn was approved from the loan. The rest were just reintroduced last year ending for consideration by the new senate. |
hardeycute:What then is the difference between you and the leaders they are castigating? ![]() So it’s until we have lots of cases in critical condition before we start sourcing for more ventilators? Wonderful. |
hardeycute:What’s the difference between you and the leaders now? ![]() |
A40:Is it not better to beg now that a company making them says they have some free to give out? Should we wait until we have a lot of cases in critical condition before we start looking for more? Isn’t that what you are blaming govt for before? |
A40:At bolded, Govt is not borrowing $500m for NTA. $500m is for the whole ministry of information and culture. NTA digitalization is actually $11m. |
elrony:Even my landlord got even though I’m at my grandparents place at the moment. |
A40:We have Ventilators to treat those we currently have, is it until we have a spike that we should start scrambling for ventilators? Is that not what we were blaming govt for before? |
gensteejay:@ bolded, majority of Nigerians do not have these. Those with BVN are said to be 40m+. That’s 1/5 of our population. |
