We just lucky finally lipsrsealed
I believe they will finally restrict flight to some countries, the problem is that we don’t have direct flight to some of these countries.

Moreover we can’t ban our citizens from returning into the country.

While the second screening is good for people coming from those countries, I don’t agree that they should go self isolate, rather they should be quarantined for 14 days before they are allowed entry fully.

I absolutely have no idea, hopefully we will know in the coming days.

The confirmed case from UK self isolated herself when she started showing symptoms, she reported to the hospital.

I don't think your mortality rate is accurate. That 3% is for the entire world currently. The mortality rate varies from country to country, I think some have 0.2% mortality rate. The question is are there other alternatives? If the alternative is to just hope that a cure or vaccine is made then you're hedging all your bets on something that could take over a year to happen, meanwhile people will be dying. If your solution is to contain the virus then it'll just come around again in the future or from travel and your entire population will still be at risk, there's no good long term solution besides herd immunity or developing a cure/vaccine, and unfortunately there is no vaccine, so the next best solution is herd immunity.
I disagree completely that there’s no better alternative than herd immunity.

Without no vaccine/cure yet, the best alternative is containment. Like Ibime said, a lot of freedom will have to be sacrificed but it’s way better than putting hundred of thousands of life at risk.

The idea is to slow the impact to hospitals for them not to collapse. If you can distribute the spread of the virus over a longer time period, more people can be saved. If you overwhelm the hospitals in one big spike, then many more will die as there aren’t enough beds for everyone.
Is that not a very risky experiment?

60% of UK population is around 40m, this virus has mortality rate of 3.4%. If the mortality rate remains the same, that’s a possible 1.3m death.

If the idea is to slow the impact, they should have started containment measures early on. He better backtrack and look for a better alternative. The US has already added Uk and Ireland to the travel ban.

The man is mad, but I think he's backtracking over the last few hours.

He wants 40 million UK people to catch the thing to develop herd immunity, with no ICU beds to treat them over the next few months. That means he's willing to accept 400,000 deaths at least to develop this herd immunity thing, when he could put the country on lockdown and slow the rate so ICU can semi-cope while they build more ICU capacity and hope the summer buys more time to build more ICU capacity.

As things stand, I think he is reasoning that UK needs probably 30,000 ICU beds for Corona, almost all of which will become redundant after a vaccine is found. UK only has 4,000 ICU beds for it's normal course of business. So rather than build capacity that would become redundant after Corona passes, he would rather take the hit in terms of human lives - also factoring keeping the economy going in light of upcoming Brexit rather than going into lockdown.

So now with his new policy, there is no more testing for Corona in UK. You only get tested if you get hospitalised with breathing difficulties. This is to keep pressure off the NHS while implementing his herd immunity policy i.e you can only go hospital if you need ventilation. When I saw China building two 1,000 bed hospitals in one week, I just knew UK would not be able to match the speed needed to cope with the virus. Thank God I bought enough Chloroquine and other items they use to treat patients in China and South Korea and sent to family members cos a few of them fall within the high risk bracket. British people always believe that the NHS will take care of them, but looking at NHS capacity, and with this new Boris policy, I always believed that when this Coronavirus hits UK, it's every man for himself.
Why suspend sporting activities? Is that not an easy way for the virus to spread quickly?

The last Cholera outbreak in Britain was in 1860. Remind me when we had our last one.

It's hilarious reading you type that Nigeria is better in Disease control management.

Not trying to spite the current effort of the government against Corona, but had it been the infected Nigerian had landed in any airport apart from Lagos or Abuja(maybe). I doubt if he will be detected.

Our borders are currently open to travellers. God is good, GUO, ABC and the rest are playing the West coast daily. Who's checking those going outand coming in?

I don't know if the hypothesis on Corona not surviving in heat is true, but I don't see us managing diseases better than Europeans or Americans[/color][/s]
Always read the full post and stop nitpicking.

Yes but only for emerging pathogens, to the extent that it takes military command structures and denial of movement and other democratic freedoms to isolate and contain an emerging pathogen. Africa is good at that, as is China, while the West is unwilling to give up freedoms.

Disease control in general though? No! Diseases like malaria and Polio still run wild in Nigeria that have been killed in other countries.
We are definitely getting better. We haven’t had a case of Polio since 2016. By August this year, it will make it 4yrs that we have been polio free. Though malaria seems to be one disease we keep battling with, it’s evident that we are getting better at this disease control.

What the government needs to work on now is putting health infrastructure in place and make healthcare available. NHIS must work for all.

Coronavirus cannot go far in Nigeria due to temperature and humidity.

One thing you people in diaspora should understand is that Nigeria (of Africa in general) is better at Disease control management. We even have more experience seeing as in the space of 6 years we have battled 2 disease outbreak (Ebola and Lassa Fever).

As at when I made that comment, how many passengers have been tracked and tested? Can you confirm that ALL the passengers in that plane have been tracked down and tested as at the time of that post? Isn't there a possibility that one or multiple of those passengers have already infected other contacts before they were tracked down?

Are the pharmaceuticals you accuse of wrecking havoc not the same health officials you asked me not to teach their job?

Wait first, so you can conviniently ASSUME that the vaccines have been discovered but is being hoarded by big Pharmaceuticals in order to cash out big time BUT I cannot ASSUME that some contacts are spreading the virus undetected? How intelligent!

If I am spreading unnecessary panic, then you, my friend, is spreading HATE.

Yes hate against scientists and health workers working night and day trying to find remedy for this pandemic.

How do you think people will react if they read and actually believe that there is a cure BUT the vaccine is being hoarded because of "cashing out big time".

Now tell me who is worst.... The person spreading panic or the person spreading/instigating hate.
Your case really needs T.B Joshua.

As at when you made that post, over 170 people had been tracked and tested. Only 2 of those in the plane haven’t been found then and it was because they filled in wrong details in the form they gave them. That post was made on an ignorant basis.

How I’m I spreading hate? Are you slow?

Where in my post did I say there’s already a cure and they are hoarding it?

I posted this...

The first paragraph CLEARLY tells you it's a personal opinion.

But no, Mr Larride, the Mr Intelligent of Nairaland replied me with this...

And later, this....

The health experts you claim I want to teach them their jobs are the same people you are accusing of...

Mr Intelligent, if I was spreading unnecessary panic, what is it you are spreading here with this assertion? [/s]
Sigh.

Why are you struggling with understanding simple context?

This is what you posted:

timbros:
I have this feeling that this virus is spreading undetected here in Naija.

How many of those passengers in the plane with the Italian have been tracked and tested?

Right now people could be coughing and sneezing (coronavirus symptoms) and still going about their daily activities attributing the sneeze and cough to dust in the environment.
The bolded is what your “feeling” was based on. I asked you a simple question if you were following the updates from relevant authorities in Nigeria because if you were, you won’t be asking that ignorant question which was the basis of your so called post.

If you still cannot see the difference between both of our post, get someone to read this post to you and then break it down for you, maybe, just maybe you might get it this time.

Stop spreading unnecessary panic, sneezing is a rare symptoms of Covid-19.

Where did you get these bolded below from?

Can you provide evidence for these claims?
Mr Timi of Okikipupa,

The first bolded statement is clear enough.

The second bolded statement, with the way test kits has developed, from using 4 days to get test results to 2 days to 8 hours to 4 hours, some countries have 1 hour testing capacity, South Korea has drive through testing and the likes. What this mean is that we have had improved testing capacity since the virus first case was confirmed.

Looking at trend and all we have been hearing is how to contain the spread of the virus or avoid it and no progress report on vaccine/cure, it’s kind of suspicious to me.

The opening statement for that post is clear enough for you to understand the rest of the post.

I can’t believe a vaccine hasn’t been found yet. It’s going to 3 months already. I thought science n technology are advanced to get a vaccine within 3 months for this virus? I’m suspecting those big Pharmaceuticals, they prolly want the virus to wreck enough havoc so they can cashout big when they release the vaccine.

This thing seems to be spreading in the UK at an alarming rate, they better get their shit together.

No be today them don dey play politics with Kingship. As long as the state government is the one funding traditional Kings/Emirs/Oba, they will always be under the threat of those Gov removing them.

Sanusi grandfather was also dethroned as Emir, even the new Emir father was almost dethroned by Abubakar Rimi.

In politics, Kings/Emir/Oba’s are meant to be neutral, the moment they start taking side openly and the side they support lost, they have set themselves up for ridicule.
