Under wat juristiction and powers recognised by the Nigerian constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, religious law or customary law.

The Deji acted with criminal intent and commited battery on a community representative that he had invited to his palace.

This is similar to the Lagos Oba inviting community leaders to his palace only to threaten their lives.

The only example i can point to internationally is the invitation given to the Russian Ambassador in Turkey only for a Turkish police officer to shot him in the back screaming like a coward.

U dont invite people on diplomatic mission and then sieze the opportunity to ttack and inflict injury on them.

That is cowardly.
You have deliberately chosen to ignore the truth, because of your biased mind. sad In every country there are state laws and communal laws. In many places, there are customary laws and other regulations used to nurture and maintain cultural relations, communal peace and proper conduct. Please do some research. sad

Again, kindly go back and read about what transpired in the palace of the Oba of Lagos, when he invited the community leaders to meet with him during the 2015 elections. He did not attack or inflict injury on them, so your attempt to cast his actions in the mold of what the Turkish police officer did to the late Russian Ambassador is misleading, deceitful and totally untenable. undecided

From the reports that were made available about the meeting, 37 other Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs were present when the Oba of Lagos made his speech. Did they report that he attacked them or inflicted injury on them, like you implied? No! Instead, they clapped for the Oba and eagerly promised to do his bidding after he gave his speech about the lagoon. Now why are you still belly-aching over this matter?

All I have to say to u is that igbos are not weak.

We can never be that way that u want or imagine.

Deji of Akure does not have any constitutional power or right to interfere with distinct communities living in Akure by Law.

Customary law are only binding on members of that custom not Nigerians living within that domain.

U know this.
Point of correction. sad The Deji of Akure did not interfere with distinct communities living in his domain. Punishment was only meted out to one man who flouted his traditional laws with impunity, and refused to make amends. undecided

Is Nigeria a Monarchy or a Federation?

U contradict urself a lot.

On one had u say an elected representative "in Akure committed a grievous offence and flouted traditional laws in Akure with impunity, and refused to show remorse when called to order."

Then on the other hand u say, "Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs in lagos and other high-ranking Igbo were in attendance when the Oba made that speech. Did your people who were there express any displeasure or did they refute his statements? No!! They clapped for him and promised to do his bidding."

U must be the man that drew this cartoon.
Nah... you know quite well that I did not draw any cartoon, because I do not need one to express myself. And there are no contradictions whatsoever in my post. It is just that you have chosen to read them with a biased mind. undecided

If you break the laws of any land, whether they are communal laws or traditional ones, there are consequences. Simple. sad That was what happened in the Akure case. Instead of you to find out where the Eze Nd'Igbo of Akure erred, you chaps keep blaming those who meted out the punishment for his offence. There are thousands of Igbo people living in Akure and abiding by the laws of the land. How many of them have been flogged, since creation of that state till date? huh

Is it not true that your Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs were present at the palace of the Oba of Lagos when he made those remarks about the lagoon during the election? Did they protest or refute his comments? No! sad So why are you all blaming the Oba without blaming your own people who were busy clapping and cheering him on, when he made those comments??! shocked

laudate, igbos have the highest rate of intertribal marriages in Nigeria. This is a known fact.

Our parents were alive during the Biafra War but never talk to us about it. Igbos live in all parts of the country and often marry among the people in those parts.

Have u tried to go and marry from the HausaFulani? Go and try it first.

Secondly, read the bolded, she is yoruba O
Again, I ask you - did you conduct a survey to ascertain that Igbos have the highest rate of inter-tribal marriage? So why are you passing off conjecture and hearsay as fact? From Anambra, to Imo, Abia, Ebonyi etc, did you conduct a census to determine the number of Igbo people married to non-Igbo, and then use this to plot a graph as part of your demographic studies on other tribes?

Hausa-Fulani marriages or tribes are NOT the subject of this topic, so please do not derail the thread.

hammerT:
@ laudate That does not make ur neighbour a bad person. If a Deji of Akure can ban a people(igbos) from electing their representative in Ondo and Oba of Lagos threaten them with Lagoon during a free and fair election, then wat are u talking about?

The man merely cautioned his daughter based on the rampant inter-tribal marriages between mostly yoruba men and Igbo women. It is everywhere and a new trend.

Or do u think everybody have not noticed. Like i said go and try to marry from the HausaFulani first, or even marry a yoruba girl and tell me about it. Go to twitter and see the hard time Cuppy is getting from yoruba Demons becos of Anichebe.

This comment received the most like on nairaland, simply becos she said something about marrying the guy.

Go on this thread and see your same yoruba men that brag about marrying igbo women react to Cuppy confirming dating Anichebe.
https://www.nairaland.com/3539848/dj-cuppy-talks-victor-anichebe

They are happy to display igbo women as trophy from their conquest of the Igbos but want to die wen igbo men display interest in yoruba women.

At the end of the day, no matter wat the igbos do, u anti-igbo will never appreciate and will continue to hate igbos as u have always done.

This is one of the reasons IPOB exist, to end it once and for all by everybody going their own way.
Again, you are jumping to half-baked conclusions and rambling about things that are not even connected. The Eze Nd'Igbo in Akure committed a grievous offence and flouted traditional laws in Akure with impunity, and refused to show remorse when called to order. So he was sanctioned. I may not approve of the methods used, but flouting a traditional ruler's orders has its own consequences.

As for the Oba of Lagos' directive, over 37 of your Eze Nd'Igbo chiefs in lagos and other high-ranking Igbo were in attendance when the Oba made that speech. Did your people who were there express any displeasure or did they refute his statements? No!! They clapped for him and promised to do his bidding. So please do not take these two incidents in isolation and use it to judge other Yoruba people about their interaction with the Igbo.

Secondly, DJ Cuppy's actions will always attract comment - whether good, bad or ugly. Those passing those comments do not speak for the entire Yoruba group, just as your own comments do not represent the views of all Nd'Igbo people. Hope that clarifies the issue.

You have jumped to conclusions without even bothering to address the fact. Where in my post did I ever say I was Yoruba? shocked I only made a comment, because I have lived in Lagos most of my life, and I have Yoruba friends, acquaintances etc. I even have relatives married to Yoruba women, and these women are really respectful and supportive of their husbands. undecided

A woman having a bad character or insulting her husband has really little to do with her tribe, and everything to do with her character. Heck, I have seen quite a number of Igbo women insult their husbands too whenever they fight, but should I conclude that all Igbo women are like that? shocked no. Let go of your tribal hatred bro'. Am sure if a Yoruba man offered you money, you would take it. So stop the posturing, abeg. Good, bad and ugly people, exist in all tribes.

None of those count, Only whatever is written in those IPOB blogs count
Why?? shocked sad huh What are their sources? How can one verify such sources? Anyway, here is another scholar's record of the events that shaped Nigeria's political history.

POLITICAL HISTORY of NIGERIA | TIME IN OFFICE | GOVERNMENT | HISTORICAL EVENTS |

January 16, 1966 - July 29, 1966 | Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi | Military - Killed in 1966. | Aguiyi-Ironsi tried to restore discipline within the army, suspended the regional constitution, dissolved all legislative bodies, banned political parties, imprisoned Awolowo, and formed a centralized Federal Military Government. A decree was issued in March of the same year to abolish the federation, and unify the federal and regional civil servants.

July 29, 1966- July 25, 1975 | Yakubu Gowon | Military - Still alive | In July of the same year, northern officers staged another coup, killing Aguiyi-Ironsi and many other Igbo officials. The Muslim officers chose Yakubu "Jack" Gowon (who was a Christian) as the new ruler. Gowon had not actually been involved in the coup but they felt he would be the best compromise candidate to head the Federal Military Government. His first steps included restoring Federalism, and releasing Awolowo from prison.

Point of correction. Ojukwu's statement was wrong. Here is another viewpoint that shows why.

The 4 major tribes & Nigeria’s problem –Awo’s prison release |9th November 2016 | http://sunnewsonline.com/

Those who say that Lt. Colonel Emeka Ojukwu, the Military Governor of the Eastern Region, rather than Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon, the Head of State and Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces, released Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Leader of the Yoruba, from the Calabar prison in 1966 do so because they are ignorant of two facts. These were the day he was set free and that at the time the soldiers of Western, Midwestern and Northern origin were by far more than their colleagues from the Eastern Region in the First Battalion in Enugu, the only army barracks in that part of the country.

Those who say that Ojukwu released Awo give the impression they believe that this was after he had declared the ill – fated Republic of Biafra, when the incident took place nine months before he did so.

As at Wednesday, August 3, 1966 when Awo was freed and returned to Lagos, Gowon was in full control over the soldiers and police in the Eastern Region, most of who were from the West, Midwest and the North, particularly from the latter region. Thanks to Bonny Rivers State-born Mr. Chapp – Jumbo MFR, ifs, who had brothers in the army in 1966 and who carried out research on the Nigerian Army, I now know the strength of the soldiers and the ethnic composition of most of the officers in the Eastern Region, as at the time Awo regained this freedom.

There were 26 officers and 843 non – commissioned officers. The Commanding Officer was Lt. Colonel David Ogunewe, an Igbo from today’s Imo State, who took over when Lt. Colonel David Ejoor an Urhobo, was appointed the Military Governor of the Midwestern Region by General Thomas Aguiyi – Ironsi in January, that year. The battalion in Enugu had three company commanders in the persons of Major Benjamin Maja Adekunle, a Yoruba from the Western Region, Captain Gibson Jalo from Adamawa province in the Northern Region and Captain D.O. Agbogu, an Igbo from the Eastern Region.

Apart from these four commanders, I have the names of 13 of the 26 officers in the Enugu barracks. Twelve of them were from the Northern Region. These were Majors Mohammed Shunwa and I. Bissala, Captain Abubakar, Lieutenant Shehu Yar’Adua (the Adjutant, i.e. Administrative Officer), Lt. Oguchi, Lt. Mohammed Jega, Lt. Dauda Suleiman, Lt. Sale Mahmoud, Lt. A.T.G. Hamman, Lt. Y.Y. Kure and the Yoruba – born twain of Captain Emmanuel Abisoye and Lt. David Jemibewon, both from present – day Kogi State, which was then in the Northern Region. The 13th officer and the third from the Eastern Region was Major Chude Sokei.

The other nine officers whose names are not available are said to have been from the Western, Midwestern, Northern and Eastern Regions.

Ojukwu took control of the soldiers in the East as from August 16 when the officers and men from the Western, Midwestern and Northern Regions were withdrawn from the Eastern Region and when most of the officers from the territory had returned to Enugu from the barracks in the other regions in the country. And this was thirteen days after Awo was released.

Since the overwhelming majority of the officers and men in the army in Enugu were non – easterners, but mostly northerners, it goes without saying that Gowon as the Commander – in – Chief would just have told either Adekunle or Jalo who were company commanders to effect the release of Awo. Even if he had given the order to either of Igbo – born Lt. Col. Ogunewe or Captain Agbogu they could not have disobeyed him, because the Federal Government was paying their salaries and most of the soldiers in their barracks were non – easterners who could have killed them.

If Ojukwu had used either Ogunewe or Agbogu to release Awo when Gowon did not give the order, it is sure that they would have been dismissed after the war in January 1970. Instead of being retired and paid their entitlements in full.

I understand a son of Ogunewe is today a serving Major – General in the Nigerian Army.

Another thing those who say Ojukwu released Awo do not know or realise is that the Yoruba leader regained his freedom five days after the Friday, July 29 revenge coup of northern officers.

A former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Thursday said his administration released the late Obafemi Awolowo from prison to end the political unrest in the South West and ensure peace across the country.

Mr. Gowon, who spoke to journalists after paying condolence visit to the Awolowos at Ikenne, also noted that he was privileged to have been used by God to ensure release of the late sage from prison.

The former head of state, who was at Ikenne on account of the death of HID Awowolo, disclosed that the late matriarch was the one who persuaded Mr. Awolowo to be part of his military government.

“’It was my fortune and I thank God that it was me that had the opportunity to release Papa from prison from Calabar to Lagos and certainly to be able to help us have peace in the West at that time and then we came,” Mr. Gowon recalled.
http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/191679-why-i-released-awolowo-from-prison-gowon.html
Here is another account that shows why Gowon actually released Ojukwu from prison:

Awo’s wife convinced him to join my government, says Gowon | By Seye Olumide and Charles Coffie Gyamfi in Ikenne |16 October 2015 | The Guardian Newspapers |

FORMER Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, yesterday said he was able to secure the services of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the founder of the defunct Action Group (AG) and former Premier of the old Western Region in his government through the intervention of the late sage’s wife, Hannah Dideolu, who passed on recently.

Gowon said: “If not for the intervention of Mama, I am not too sure whether Chief Awolowo would have accepted to serve in my government. We had to go through her to get Papa to join us in government.”

Speaking during the condolence visit by members of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation to Ikene on the passing away of Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, who died on September 19, 2015 at 99, Gowon said that in paying condolence to her, “we cannot do without mentioning her husband, Chief Awolowo, as you all know that he was very instrumental to some of our successes in government in those days.”

He also used the opportunity to appeal to Nigerians on the need to exercise patience and cooperate with the present administration to do the right thing, saying: “There are many problems as there are many Nigerians but there is the need for a lot sacrifice, patience and endurance to resolve them.”

He also commended Nigerian media for the role they have played so far in the course of resolving the challenges confronting the country.

Gowon said: “How did she woo Papa to our side? I am fortunate that I had the opportunity to release Chief Awolowo from prison and he returned to Lagos, certainly to be able to help us secure peace in the Western Region at that time.

“The development made HID Awolowo very excited and she was very grateful and that is what earned my deep respect for her throughout her lifetime.

“But there was also the need to get Chief Awolowo involved in our government because what we wanted at that time was peace, especially when the Western Region was in crisis.

“It is my great honour that God used me to bring him back to his family. What people may not know is that it was through Mama that I was able get the services of Awolowo to join the government at that time and to be the Vice Chairman of our Executive Council and the Minister for Finance and we all knew what he did to ensure that we are able to survive as a nation during those two and a half years of crisis.”

He continued: “Let me tell you something: My hope when I became the Head of State was that at between six months and a year, I would have resolved some of the problems in the country. But I discovered to the contrary, that it was not going to be easy to resolve some of those problems overnight. So we have to be patient with our leaders for them to be able to get things in order.

‘‘She was a very dear wife to her husband. She lived with him and went through the rough days with him. She was there with Papa during the period that he was incarcerated. I am delighted that I saw to it that he was cleared and was reunited with Mama in those days.’’

He added that HID Awolowo’s contributions were tremendous: “I will always thank her for that because if we had not approached her to prevail on Papa to join the government probably he may not have. But he did and I will always say that he did exceptional well and may God bless the two of them.

..... Inter-tribal marriages have and will always remain a thing of beauty, with the progenies of such unions reaping the benefits in manifold, for not only would they turn out to be a cross-pollination of two cultures and bi/multilingual, they'd also – since they are a product of two entirely different tribes/ideologies/weltanschauung – have broader horizons and would more likely than most have a two-, three-, or even four-pronged approach in inventing their way out of any problem.

The two persons coming together just have to work out the conflicts characteristic of an inter-tribal marriage during the time of their courtship, otherwise they are bound to make a horlicks of the union.

I hope u know that inter-tribal marriages is less than 5%.

Now wen u take that into consideration and calculate the break-up associtated with such marriages, u will appreciate that it has a higher divorce rate in comparison to marriage of people who share same culture.

Similarly Precious should be removed becos they are just starting too, even though the guy is her fadas age mate.

Advice to folks...never assume any behavior of ur partner during marriage. If u cannot change it before marriage...then better opt out.

2ndly, its usually not so generally advisable togo for intertribal....sincerely. It just gets complicated and makes the marriage not so enjoyable at all when differences start to arrive. Compliments to all those who are currently in a good or working intertribal marriages though...but its best to avoid them if one can....saves alot of headaches.

I didnt also mention i m catholic and she is core protestant. That has also brought its own big challenges as well.
Hmmmn.... na wah, o! There are too many loopholes in your story. First, how long did you two date before you got married? So now, you admit she had an abusive mouth, but you thought you could change it during marriage? Who do you think you are? Her maker? Or her God?

Secondly, didn't you ever speak Igbo with your friends and family in front of her while you were dating? What was her reaction back then? huh

As for religion, you mean that you never attended each other's churches while dating, and you never sat down to hold a full & frank discussion about something as fundamental as your spiritual lives? Chai! shocked

Anyway, the long and short of the whole matter was that you saw the handwriting on the wall and just chose to ignore it, and plunge headlong into holy matrimony with the most incompatible woman you could find. Now, you are coming here to lament and cry over spilled milk! sad

Her tribe is NOT the issue here, but her character and inherent values. Even if she was an Igbo woman, you would still have problems with her, because of her character. sad She would then decide to fight you, because you spoke your dialect to your people in front of her, instead of speaking one that she understands! If at all your story is true, your wife has a bad character which you choose to negelect at the onset. It has nothing to do with tribe.

Tribalizing every issue as a nation will not help.

Is it that ondo state haa a way of not seeing refinery or gas or bitumen project to fruition in their domain?

Dangote refinery waa supposed to be sited at ondo state but for one reason or the other it was moved to lagos

Now Olokola LNG was supposed to be between Ondo and ogun state but somehow they also lost it to brass in Bayelsa

What is happening?
Because the natives (of Ondo State) were not friendly. cheesy Actually, investors go to where their cash and their resources are given the greatest incentives and welcome.

Dangote took his refinery to Lagos, because Fashola's administration gave them access to land, fast-tracked govt approvals and did everything to woo Dangote to Lagos Free Trade Zone area in Lekki. They knew what they were doing. cool

In the past few years, Lagos state govt has put in place, policies, people and resources to attract foreign and local investment to their state. The state has so far received more Foreign Direct Investment in the last 16 months than what was achieved in the last 10 years.

This is what Ambode said recently:

“When I won the election, one of my priorities was to see how to improve on the ease of doing business in Lagos and I also believe that we needed to carry out some kind of public sector reforms to drive the vision which we had actually set for ourselves and we needed to also have a kind of structure and institutional framework that would drive the vision.

“The vision is very simple: we want a safer, cleaner and a more prosperous Lagos and one of the structures would be if we want to tackle the issue of bureaucracy in the civil service, we needed to have a 24/7 one-stop shop office where we can drive investment especially where our businessmen can actually walk into and get everything that they need. In going about that, we decided to come up with the office of Oversees Affairs and Investment, otherwise known as Lagos Global.”
https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/209320/lagos-attracted-foreign-investments-16-months-10-years-ambode
The Ondo State govt at that time folded his arms and expected Dangote to come cap-in-hand begging for his assistance. Another major problem was that the Niger-Delta Ilaje/Ijaw communities in Ondo State where the refinery should have been sited were not cooperative. Can you see the difference, now? sad

Dangote Relocates Refinery To Lagos | SOCIETYREEL NEWS |

The Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ondo State has lost the opportunity to host the proposed Dangote Oil refinery.
It would be recalled that Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, signed a multi-billion dollar deal with banks to finance the building of the oil refinery last year.

The refinery, Dangote told the media would be the largest in Africa, turning Nigeria into a petroleum exporter.

Authoritative sources involved with the development of the refinery informed ionigeria.com that the refinery will now be sited at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos. Our resources also told us that the decision to move it to Lagos was final as survey work has already begun at the Lekki location.

It was also gathered that the relocation was informed by the inability of the Dangote Group to reach agreement with the communities in Ondo State who were described as very difficult.

According to one of our sources, who is actively involved in the project, Alhaji Aliko Dangote initially settled for Ondo state because of the relative peace in the state compared to other Oil producing states, but the Olokola and Igbakoda communities became very unreasonable in their demands. If we are to accede to their demands, we may have to spend about fifty percent of the projected cost of the refinery on community relations. Since we are not government, we decided to move the project to a more business friendly environment.

The projected 9 billion dollar refinery is planned to have a capacity of around 400,000 barrels a day and was to take off by late 2016.

Watching
Whenever ignorant people write articles they usually quote "anonymous" sources to back up frivolous claims that have no standing with the reality on ground

Not everything is a GEJ or PMB issue

1. Conocophilips began this investment in 2006. The deals were negotiated by Obasanjo

2. Conoco decided to scale back their foreign operations globally for reasons best known to them in 2010. This affected many countries including Nigerian, Algerian and even canadian projects.

3. In Nigeria, they announced they were pulling out in 2013 but still refused to pull out completely. Nigeria's LNG was a huge market an investors flocked to buy it including Japan LNG who knew Brass LNG would be a big competition if they start

4. Conoco revised their withdrawal timeline again to 2014 as they were having second thoughts about pulling out. Most of the investors were discouraged by the delay and the drop in crude oil price at that period

5. They completely pulled out in 2015. The project was one of the first GEJ applied local content laws to a maximum. They had even trained a lot of street people. Many I knew personally. A lot of the FEED was done in Nigeria as against previous governments tactics were everything including the designs is done abroad

6. The Conoco delay caused the FID from being signed with new investors. Gej didn't fight conoco for many reasons one being they had a US government(obama) that was already fighting him on other issues

7. The current government inherited the whole quagmire and have been waiting it out. If you want to blame someone blame the government that negotiated a bad deal in the first place making it difficult for another government to force Conoco out
Bros, there is no deal that cannot be re-negotiated. Even if a previous govt had negotiated a bad deal, a successive govt can pull out the stops to investigate, resolve and close out the issue. sad 'Waiting it out' is not a solution. For how long will this govt wait? shocked

The problem is that new investors are now needed to take over Conoco's role in the LNG project. LNG prices are not as bad as crude prices, and there are still foreign investors that can be persuaded to participate in the project, if govt creates an enabling environment for fresh investment, and actively lobbies them to come in by giving good incentives and proper support. undecided

Discos are having major challenge with the marketers though.

Is your house metered?

I hope you were able to record what the Marketing Manager said. He admitted they made a mistake, and still expects you to pay up.

He must have been conniving with his field marketers to rip people off.

Ask your security guard if the marketers do come around to take meter readings monthly.
The house had (and still has) the old analogue meter. As for taking meter readings, none of the Disco's staff has done that in the last one year. cheesy

Unfortunately, I had no means of recording what the Marketing Manager said (either by phone or e-mail), as he made the statement verbally, while he was scrutinising the billing report. I have written several letters on this issue, and nothing has been done yet. sad

As for him conniving with his field marketing staff...well, now that you have mentioned it, it could be a possibility. He was vehemently against any reversal of the bill, claiming that his hands were tied. By who? I wonder? shocked

Hello!I read on a thread recently that tofu is made in Nigeriaby either Benue people or Northerners. That also made me wonder if goat's cheese is made here, as I know the Nigerian Dwarf goat is prized for its milk. So, does anyone know where it's sold, the local names of tofu and Goat's cheese. I'm in Lagos. Thanks.
In areas like Kwara and Kogi, it is called 'wara. And it is made from cow's milk, too.
