InvertedHammer: / Most IOCs are in the upstream sector (exploration, drilling). They delve into midstream (crude lifting/transportation, storage) and downstream (refining, refined products, storage and distribution) as well. Local corporations are mostly in the midstream and downstream sectors.
If you noticed, in upstream and downstream sectors we are still talking about crude oil. But in downstream, we are talking about the "derivatives".
Capital oil is in the downstream sector. \ Very well said. You are quite correct. |

I know they are big in downstream haulage of petroleum products and they have a few fuel station as well as a depots, but how did they get into crude lifting?? And which company is called Arkleen? @laudate , thanks for sharing that Tai solarin piece. You are most welcome. I first came across it, almost 10 years ago, but it resonated with me on a rather deep level. I stumbled across this one too, and would like to share it. Life - I am the new year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned about life during the last twelve months.
All that you sought and didn't find is hidden in me, waiting for you to search it out with more determination.
All the good that you tried for and didn't achieve, is mine to grant when you have fewer conflicting desires.
All that you dreamed but didn't dare to do, all that you hoped but did not will, all the faith that you claimed but did not have -- these slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened by the touch of a strong purpose.
I am your opportunity to renew your allegiance to Him who said, "behold, I make all things new."
I am the new year.

cheruv: Enyi, like I told you... Igala issues concern us, just as Igbo issues concern them. The only outsider here is you who's neither Igbo nor Igala The map whether its fake or not is not my wahala....the map was made by a Yoruba and the map recognizes all Yoruboid and Edoid peoples which I don't have issues with. The only thing am saying is that the Great Igbo nation won't support the Igala being in whatever Odua ish they're forming. Its natural as an odua person to be pissed by my position but I don't give a damn. As for your infantile pranks of inserting Igbo phrases(when you can't even speak the language) into our discussion, you look so funny doing that and I can imagine childish you're thinking that'd influence me in any way See this one! So Igala issues are now to be dictated by the Igbo, according to you? Let me laugh very well in Greek, first! You claim the map was made by a Yoruba person - Oya, post the url link & source so we can verify. You & your ilk are capable of faking anything, so I wouldn't put it past them to have faked this map. If you have gone through most of the Yoruba threads on NL, those chaps have always advocated for a region that consists only of Yoruba-speaking people. They are not land-grabbers like you and your IPOB-ian ilk, from what I have seen here. In fact, they declined to add Itsekiri to their list in one of their threads, despite the linguistic similarities that exist between their languages. Now, you want the rest of us who have followed their discussions closely, to believe that they would draw a map and include non-Yoruba areas in it, when even the old Mid-Western region advocated for their people to be carved out of the Western region in the early '60s? Who are you trying to deceive, biko?? I don't know if the Odua are pissed by your position, you would have to ask them. But as a non-Odua I am certainly disgusted by the fact that you feel you can dictate the collective destiny of a whole ethnic group like the Igalas. Why not let them decide for themselves who they want to align with or what they want to be?? The Igala do not need your so-called support to align with whomever they choose! The Yoruba and Igbo should let them be! Finally, you are the one who cannot speak Igbo, as your written Igbo is atrocious! You have not met me in real life & yet you feel I cannot speak Igbo?? Let me guess, your keyboard whispered it to you! Why on earth would I want to influence you by making a comment in Igbo? Influence you to achieve what? Honestly, you are too ridiculous for words! Just say that you need lessons in Igbo, so that I can recommend a tutor for you! Others who can read and write Igbo, have not made the same complaint you have done about any phrases I have used on NL. |

emmanuelpopson: The oil industry is abusing the human rights of hundreds of thousands of people in Nigeria's Niger Delta region. So far, the Nigerian government can't or won't hold oil companies accountable. The Demand Dignity Campaign is pressuring multinational corporations like Shell, and the government of Nigeria, to clean up the Niger Delta. As part of that work, Amnesty International USA's new Eyes on Nigeria project uses the power of satellite technology to monitor oil industry abuses in the region. A major source of oil pollution is the practice of gas flaring -- burning off excess gas as waste. Communities affected by flaring and organizations working on oil industry pollution have raised serious concerns about the risks to human health -- about which many questions remain unanswered. The poorest communities are among the hardest hit. The people of the Niger Delta need a real deadline for ending gas flaring -- and they need full transparency about the health risks of flaring. Amnesty International and its partners will deliver this petition to the Nigerian government, Shell, ENI, Total, Chevron and other multinational oil companies active in the Niger Delta.
http://www.amnestyusa.org/our-work/issues/business-and-human-rights/oil-gas-and-mining-industries/end-gas-flaring-in-the-niger-delta How can gas flaring stop when the people of the Niger-Delta who live in the creeks, do not want it to come to an end? Oya, go there today and offload all the equipment, resources and personnel to set up a project to capture & process the gas, that is being flared. See what would happen: 1). Indigenous communities would kidnap your staff, under the pretext that they have no right to trespass on their land, even though you legitimately bought and paid for it in full; You even have the correct documentation pertaining to the transaction. 2). Militants and their ilk would steal or destroy your equipment, under the guise of demanding one development levy or the other - (it doesn't matter how much community levies you have paid in the past); 3). The security personnel would decline to offer you protection, claiming that your area isn't under their jurisdiction, or that they lack money, men and proper ammunition to offer your staff adequate protection; So until the natives become more friendly and are willing to work with investors to put in place projects that would stop gas flaring, nothing would happen!! Another factor in the fundamental problem is the custom and beliefs in birthrights. The diala can buy land and attain community or clan leadership and can represent the community and marry freely....the osu is forbidden from any of these privileges of birth. When it dawned on osus that in Yorubaland they are equal to dialas and no one here forbids them anything or set no-go limits on them, plus the fact Yorubaland is a land of milk & honey....they abandoned their condemned life in Iboland sought refuge in Yoruba. Many of them rose to prosperity and far above their freeborn peers. This factor alone drained Iboland of headcount faster than anything else.
As you plan a resettlement (that guy was correct by calling it resettlement, and im going to add to it...) and "rehabilitation" of Iboland, start thinking what it means and changes needed to make every Ibo a freeborn on your homeland. You also need to define and reassess if you want to remain as member in this culturally incompatible system of governance. Hmmn.... this is deep. It is really food for thought! |

Likening it to OAP Toke Makinwa’s heartbreak story, she narrated.
http://mojidelano.com/2017/01/my-boyfriend-of-4-years-just-got-engaged-heartbroken-lady-shares-her-toke-makinwa-esque-story/ To the lady whose boyfriend of 4 years just got engaged to someone else, (i.e. Topaz_events) my advice is simple. Go to church and do a thanksgiving. You had a lucky escape. Your bloke cheated on you long enough to plan a wedding with another girl behind your back, while lying to you and pretending to love you. What kind of relationship or marriage can be built on a foundation of deceit and lies?God believes that you are worth more than what your -ex was dishing out, so He allowed you to discover his true colours and unmasked his escapades. If you were faithful, honest, loving and true to him - then, don't worry. Karma will definitely take its' course. What a person sows, he shall reap. It is an unwritten law of the universe. Take out time to talk to a trusted friend, or counsellor or priest. Unburden your soul. Pray for inner healing & strength. Unfortunately, there is no pill that can cure heartache, but Time is a great healer of the soul. Improve yourself. Upgrade your knowledge and fashion style. Take part in wholesome activities that would refresh your soul. In a few months, the pain will fade and you will wonder what you ever saw in him.

The kind of girl who draws inspiration from this Toke of a thing and religiously reads her stupid book is exactly the kind of girl that no sensible Nigerian man should marry There is nothing stupid about Toke's book. You obviously haven't read it. If I had a daughter, it would be a book I'd recommend for her to read. It teaches you not to change yourself into something God has not designed you to be, in order to fit in with someone else's preconceived notions of how a perfect woman should look and act. It helps you learn from Toke's experience, on how to read the handwriting on the wall and pull out of a toxic relationship, before it is too late, and your self-esteem is irreparably damaged. It teaches you that you cannot change a man, no matter how much 'in love', you are with him. Read the book, before you thrash it.

Vokians: What is the meaning of Afonja? Afonja was a fearless warlord who lived in the 19th Century. His traditional title was Aare Ona Kakanfo, (ask someone to translate this for you). He was a seasoned battlefield commander, a legendary warrior, a generalissimo under a traditional ruler known as the Alaafin of old Oyo, in the south-western part of Nigeria. He was marked for extermination by his traditional ruler, for declining to launch a military expedition against a neighbouring town. In order to protect himself from death, he sought to kill the ruler that was after his life, by invoking the 'Calabash verdict against the man. So that king was forced to commit suicide. http://www.ilorin.info/fullnews.php? https://openaccess.leidenuniv.nl/bitstream/handle/1887/35802/02.pdf?sequence=12id=10472However, Afonja died in the 1800s. |

Nobody taught me to start using forks till now.
These lynchers probably do not understand the perspective she speaks from. Which kain perspective, for goodness sake??! Most people are irritated by her reference to a lack of home training on the part of those who prefer to use their hands to eat traditional food! If she had just said that it was better to use a knife & fork for African cuisine or meals, and had left it at that without inserting that insulting remark about lack of home training, her comments would not have drawn so much flak! Even if you eat amala, fufu, ewedu, egusi, oha, ogbono etc., with your hands, wouldn't you wash your hands properly with soap and water to get rid of the smell after lunch?? The only time the smell clings to your fingers, is if your hands were not thoroughly washed and dried properly, after the meal! Rinse your fingers more than once if you have to, and clean the debris out from under your nails. The smell would disappear. Use a sanitiser too, if it is available. End of story! |
