Handsomebeing: Moved from the mainland to Ajah(Thomas Estate) in 2015. Now I'm back on the mainland. Traffic, hell whenever it rains, wall and kitchen was a mess in less than 6 months despite renovating before I moved in and I needed about 250k to plaster and paint the wall, change the kitchen cabinet and rebuild the chamber. Just an overrated area. Guy, you chose a poorly constructed house in the first place. That is why you encountered those problems. Don't blame it on the area. My cousin had an experience similar to yours', when he moved to Ikeja last year! |

Unlike the people who reside in the Lekki area, the Ajah residents are unpretentious and down-to-earth and basically the people are easy to get along with. There is no silent competition among the residents as regards affluence or status. People live their lives normally basicallySource: http://www.opinions.ng/5-reasons-move-lekki-ajah/ Please kindly define what you mean by Lekki people. Which part of this district are you referring to exactly? And what precisely do you mean by Ajah people are unpretentious and down-to-earth? kalokalo: Come to look at, Nigeria (or rather IOCs operating in Nigeria) export billions of cubic feet of gas annually around the globe. And yet, the local supply of gas is constantly in short supply. Do we know why? Because the government controls the prices at which IOCs can sell gas domestically to power-plants and industries.
If selling gas domestically is as profitable as exporting, the IOCS would be falling over themselves to do so. It takes billions of dollars of investment to build gas gathering, treating, storage and pipeline assets to get gas to homes, businesses or anywhere it is needed. That kind of investment needs bankable gas supply agreements (usually 20 years). No one would do so if their ability to price their produce is in the hands of political actors. Especially when gas prices in Nigeria are set (by NERC) at around $2.5 per MCF while the same gas can be sold in Asia or Europe for at least $5.4 per MCF.
Little wonder, Nigeria's gas-fired power plants and industries suffer from chronic gas shortages. Its the laws of economics working again . It will always defeat any attempt to undermine it. Venezuela is currently its victim. Guy, please do a comparison of gas prices in different countries round the world, and contrast those prices with what is paid in Nigeria before you start this story. And kindly put the comparison in context with the income per capita, minimum wage, level of infrastructure etc., before you decide to give us this long lecture. Everyone keeps advocating paying higher prices for everything, as if throwing extra money around is the solution to every problem. Ineptitude, managerial incompetence, inadequate technical skills, poor internal operational processes, defective community relations schemes, militancy, totally weakened naira, and several other issues are responsible for many of the problems facing gas supply in the country today. If the root causes are not tackled, charging high rates for gas will not solve anything. Please do the maths. |

Onechancearmy: Why pay for something that doesn't exist? And whose fault is it that billing in Nigeria is so chaotic and disorganised. Countries which charge more for electricity usually have proper billing management, well maintained infrastructure and are able to provide a reliable service. Passing the blame to the hapless consumer does not explain the gross incompetence of management. May God bless you one million times on Sundays for this post! When people say Nigerians do not pay for power, I laugh! With all the inaccurate, horrendous, estimated bills the Discos dish out and the way they supply more darkness than light, please tell me what do they expect? What stops them from disconnecting defaulters? All of us that pay our bills religiously every month, how much electricity supply, do we get in return? You give a family of two staying in a one-bedroom apartment a bill of =N=35,000 monthly, for less than 30 hours of power supply every month in a nation where minimum wage is =N=18,000 for the same period, and you turn round to complain about non-payment? Hehehe.... I laugh in Cantonese! |

tolastikha: If you are not aware get it into your brain today. Academic qualifications are met principally for research purposes. Application of the research works are carried out by professionals period. That is why whatever your qualification, PhD or whatever, you can't audit corporate account except you have ican; nor sign engineering design except you have corel; nor certified any corporate plan as worth implementation except you have acia; nor certified any survey plan except you are chartered surveyor. Guy, pls try and educate yourself. Like I said before, a little learning is a dangerous thing. An academic qualification is a pre-requisite for most professions. It merely serves to confirm to external parties that you have received prescribed training and acquired relevant skills in a particular subject, or field of expertise. It is the reason why you cannot be allowed to practise medicine, unless you have a medical degree & have passed the statutory examinations mandated by the medical board. It is the reason why you cannot be admitted to practise law in any jurisdiction, unless you have taken the requisite bar exams and passed through the appropriate training specified by the regulators in that field. It is also the reason why you cannot practise as a certified clinical therapist, without at least a bachelors' degree in psychology. Even the COREN you are making noise about, requires that you must first have a degree or diploma in engineering before you can sit for the prescribed professional exams in order to get COREN certification. Tell me how many engineers are awarded the COREN certification, without possessing a first degree or equivalent qualification in engineering? If you applied for a driving job, would any prospective employer not ask you to submit a valid driving license as evidence that you have the skills you are claiming to possess? |

ShootToKill: You forgot to mention the part where Afonja sold yorubaland to the caliphate forcing yorubas to run down to Ibadan to build brown roof muddy IDP camps that still exists till today. Today many of your yoruba muslims are longing for Emirates in Oshogbo, Ibadan. etc. Why shouldn't you be called Afonjas? Guy, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. See as una dey find trouble. Read up the history very well, nah. They taught us the chap's history in school. Non-Yoruba folks like us were told that Afonja was a great warlord, a warrior, or a generalissimo who was marked for extermination by his traditional ruler. In order to protect himself from death, he sought to kill the ruler that was after his life, by invoking the 'Calabash verdict against the man. So that king was forced to commit suicide. Afonja died in the 1800s, but the Osu caste system is still alive in many communities in the South-East. Now, if one of those Yoruba people enters here to call you an Osu, you will start crying blue murder. Anyway, na wetin concern me? MadamExcellency: Every power produced is sold to TCN which is under the control of FG.
Transmission Infrastructure is the weakest link in Nigeria power sector hence Fashola and FG got the blame.
Btw, total system collapse is not from GENCOs nor from DISCOs rather from TCN. The blame should be laid at the feet of all the 3 groups. To have 24x7 power, Nigeria needs at least 40,000MW of power, but it is currently producing less than 4,500MW. The transmission network is in an abysmal state, and so more than a quarter of the power produced gets lost and cannot be transmitted effectively to points of need. The Gencos have hidden their shortcomings by pointing fingers at TCN for its failure to upgrade the transmission network. Today they will blame the transmission network. Tomorrow, they will blame the shortage of gas supplies due to disruptions in the system. The Discos on the other hand have proven their cluelessness repeatedly, by not being able to monitor the distribution of power effectively and their inability to collect revenue from all end-users properly, due to their faulty billing system that has driven a wedge between themselves and their customers. Nigeria's power problems need to be laid squarely at the feet of all the players, including the FG. |

Mind you, academic degree such as (b sc, m sc and PhD) are only for teaching. There are other forms of proficiency test such as (ican, acca, anan, acia, etc) practically made for practical jobs not theories and surely Nigerians are not aware of this. If it is not B sc or Hnd then you are not supposed to be working in any organized sectors (Nigerians own level of reasoning). Get your brain charge up men. Oga, if she has all the correct qualifications, then how come she has never included any of them in her CV? For your information, BSc, MSc & Ph.d are NOT just for teaching.
