Sincere9gerian: Tinubu attack dogs with their politically motivated BAD BELLE. Tinubu's party has governed Lagos for 15 years but which percentage of Lagosians now commute by a railway built by Tinubu's party? GO AND DIE with your destructive criticisms!Bros, there is no need for insults. I do not give a hoot about Tinubu or what he does. Some of my posts on other threads have been openly critical of the 'Emperor of Bourdillon' and his acolytes. Go and check. I have no political affiliations and I am yet to see the difference between APC and PDP. My comments above, were informed by the fact that I have studied the rail system in Nigeria over the past few years and I know that most of what has been posted here is nothing but sheer hype. ![]() For the past few months I have commuted daily from the Abeokuta/Otta axis down to Yaba in Lagos as part of my official duties. There is a project my firm is carrying out in that area. I was one of the elated Nigerians that poured encomiums on GEJ when the trains started running, as I felt it would ease logistics for staff of my company. For where? After daily monitoring rail service on that axis as well as other services offered by NRC within the Lagos metropolis, I was totally depressed, disappointed and disgusted with NRC's rail services on that route. From late arrivals of trains, to outright cancellation of services, to delays on the tracks (i.e. a journey of 2 hours ends up taking 6 hours), overcrowded coaches, filthy seats, stinking lavatories etc, the litany of woe on Nigerian trains are endless. ![]() When hype masters such as your esteemed self, decide to post paid PR articles, do us a favour and cross-check if what is being touted as a transformation is actually a reality. ![]() In your books, it is an offence for a Nigerian citizen to complain about poor, shoddy services and non-existent DMU schedules. Yet, we want a better Nigeria. How do we get a better country if we don't speak out about the problems and issues on ground, so that those in charge of these sectors can improve their performance? ![]() Sorry to disappoint you, but am not a sycophant. I will continue to speak out and call it as I see it, with no apologies. Someone is being paid a salary to solve these problems, and taxpayers money are being expended to resolve these issues, yet NRC's offerings are going from bad to worse. ![]() Why should we sweep inefficiency and appalling performance under the carpet, simply because it doesn't favour your 'Oga at the top'? ![]() The same NRC that wants to woo the elite and middle class, has done nothing to offer them convenience, information and express rail schedule to reduce their logistic problems. And yet you expect us to applaud them. I beg, commot for road, jare! |
Bede2u: That's your opinion. Indigenous companies and foreign companies should work side by side in a key sector like oil. Not one leaving and one taking over. Dats not growth. But just cos u don't agree with my opinion doesn't mean u should end ur comments with all but calling me an ignoramus. Are we quarrelling? Or are u some NNPC chairman that knws it all?Hello, please point out where I called you an ignoramus. What quarrel are you referring to? Oh, is it because I asked you to enlighten yourself? Does the fact that Shell divested from just 4 blocks, now mean that one company is leaving? Or does divesting from 4 oil blocks, mean that Shell is divesting from Nigeria as a whole? Has Shell told you that it is divesting totally from this country? Let us know. According to the press, it appears Shell is only divesting from the fields it has on-shore, but would continue its exploration activities in the wells it still owns, that are located off-shore. Reasons for the divestment (according to The Guardian of London), are: "firstly, reduce its exposure to troublesome onshore Nigeria; second, cut its net capital expenditure spend; and third, increase the free cash it can spend on share buybacks and dividends, all of which we believe the market will like." Bede2u: If shell and the other big oil companies leave (or significantly reduce dia assets in) Nigeria, it would spell doom for our unemployed workforce and further deepen d fuel scarsity in d country as indeginious firms would only bastardise d sector. We better find ways to entice them to stay!Don't agree. There are indigenous oil companies in the upstream sector that are doing well. Shell International is not the saviour or ruler of the Nigerian oil industry. So how does their divesting from just 4 oil fields spell doom for the industry, if other buyers are available & willing to take them over? Are those new companies, not going to hire Nigerian workers to carry out exploration activities in those oil fields, just like Shell would have done? ![]() Fuel scarcity has more to do with our importation schedule by government officials, and the ineptitude of our refineries rather than any action orchestrated by Shell. Please enlighten yourself about the way the upstream & downstream sector of the oil industry is run, before you pass comments on these kind of threads... ![]() |
Sincere9gerian: Recent developments in Nigeria’s railway have gone far in showing that resuscitation of national infrastructure can be cheaply achieved. The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) is beating the imagination of most people, leaping from one feat to the next in a shorter time than expected and has continued to maintain appreciable doggedness in its determination to stabilise the railway transport system in the country. This post is a paid PR pitch, not a true report of the situation on ground. NRC wants to lure the elites in Lagos to use DMU trains. Hahahaha! Am laughing in Greek! ![]() Lagos state has a population of more than 10 million, according to the state government. Yet, NRC is providing DMU trains that cannot even carry up to 0.1% of the elite, in Lagos. As stated before on another thread, the lack of info from NRC offices and terminals is appalling. What is the train schedule for these DMUs? They run once in the morning (at 7:30am from Iddo terminus to Ijoko) and once in the evening at 5:30pm, along the same route, if you are lucky. On some days, they don't even run at all. So what happens, to the rest of the hours in-between? Nothing. The DMUs are nowhere to be found outside these stipulated hours. Is there a train schedule that can easily be accessed on the 'go', wherever the elites are located? No. ![]() Is there a customer care phone line on which quick information on DMU train schedules can be obtained, if the elites are far away from the train terminals? No. ![]() What is the cost of a return ticket? Unknown. ![]() Can the elite pay the train fare using their debit cards online or by POS terminals? No. Are there brochures or leaflets at various key points within the city (especially in the central business districts of Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ikeja, Apapa, Marina, Amuwo-Odofin, Lekki, Yaba etc), where the elite can get information on the DMU locations and points of departure? No. Whosai? ![]() So is NRC serious about attracting the elite in Lagos to use the trains? I don't think so.... they have displayed their usual clueless, bureaucratic, illogical attitude when it comes to service and efficiency. Yet, they are making noise about attracting the 'elite' in Lagos state. Hehehe.... let me continue laughing... in Greek! Sincere9gerian: I understand the NRC is working on all those challenges. But you can investigate and tell us laterWe have investigated. Our verdict is that NRC is not serious. It still persists in running our rail services, in the same manner that yam sellers run their stalls at Ogbete market!! ![]() |
ManTiger: Blame Awolowo who's under care #765m was lost in Transit. What is the source of your info? Please post it online, so we can read and verify. We have gone past the stage where rumours can be recycled as 'the gospel truth'! |
Well, the oldest car my Dad had (may God rest his soul!) was a 1973 Citroen DS. Loved the car..... it had this way of moving up & down, that always made us smile! it looked exactly like this....

Omasmiley: There must be a real cost to this ATM. Have you guys noticed how dispense errors had increased? With this policy, the issue of dispense error will reduce.Says who? In those days when they were charging =N=100 as ATM fees, are you saying there was no ATM dispense error? All the banks recorded huge profits despite the cancellation of the =N=100 ATM charges, back then. I beg, this CBN governor is just clueless & needs to change his orientation. He is still thinking like the average commercial banker (i.e. my ambition is to make money at the expense of everyone else, regardless of how it is done & whose ox is gored..) ![]() oh SLS, where art thou? Truly, truly thy policies were customer-friendly when thou were at the helm of CBN.... |
ibedun: Cars? The isolation centres are inadequate, while the quality of healthcare in the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Lagos, is sub-standard and poorly implemented. For example, it was reported that there was no oxygen in the IDH, so friends of a patient on admission had to contribute money to buy oxygen. Food and drugs were contributed by First Consultants hospital to patients on admission at the IDH, obviously because the state government & FMoH could not provide these items to those in its care. Protective Equipment (PPE) is reported to be in short supply, because the state government & FMoH have not provided enough for the use of the medical personnel & caregivers in our public hospitals. ![]() Ebola is highly contagious and there is no known cure, again because our state governments & FMoH have not provided funds & adequate infrastructure for our medical research institutes and virologists over the years in order for them to develop a cure. Yet, our Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu wants to spend =N=1.9 billion buying 'cars'. Someone should translate the words 'clueless', unthinking, illogical, unfeeling and selfish into Onyebuchi Chukwu's dialect and make it part of his middle name. ![]() |
eazeefix: Please stop deceiving yourself that ebola is under control in Nigeria. A disease that has killed more than 50% of its victims despite medical intervention, is highly contagious and which still lacks a cure cannot be classified as under control. And kindly stop comparing Ebola to malaria. Malaria is not contagious and it already has a known cure. Ebola does not. End of story! |
It is sad but it appears as if no one is actually auditing or evaluating the quality of care being provided by these interns at the Military hospitals. At the Military Hospital in Yaba, there are no doctors available in the wards on weekends, especially Sundays. If a patients condition takes a turn for the worse on a Sunday, ah....na bad story be that oh! There are no defibrillators to restart a patient's heart if he suffers a cardiac arrest... and most of the antibiotics offered to patients are the first-generation type, not the quick-acting new-generation types that take effect in record time. The list of deficiencies is so long...that it beats the imagination when patients actually recover in this military hospital, and eventually get discharged. May God protect us all from infirmity and disease.... because our public hospitals and military health care centres, lack the ability to help those who truly need their assistance to fight sickness & disease. |
feedthenation: Goes to show with proper medical attention, some people can still survive.hmmn.... i still believe that all those who survived the Ebola disease in Lagos, did so through the mercy of God. The quality of care being given to patients at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Lagos is nothing to write home about. ![]() A thorough audit of the quality of care, standard & treatment regimen administered to these patients need to be carried out, before any commendation can be given to the authorities. ![]() |
drobadebayo: Since u know so much why don't u tell us how many times dey v gone on strike in d past few months. You can read about it here: just follow the link - http://www.thecable.ng/nigerian-doctors-begin-nationwide-strike-on-tuesday The Cable Newspapers: On June 13, 2014, the doctors had warned of a “total and indefinite” industrial action beginning from July 1, 2014, if the federal government did not “ensure the immediate passage” of the National Health Bill and also honour other agreements reached with the association. They initially embarked on a five-day warning strike between December 18 and December 22, 2013, which was to be followed by an indefinite industrial action from January 6, 2014. |
MissMeiya: I understood you. 5 years later. You should know that people often skip over things written like this. It's not "informal", it's INCORRECT.Thank you! This is clearly listed as part of the posting rules, but the average Nigerian believes that laws or rules are meant to be broken. I have said this before in another thread: "Moderators should delete any post that contains more than 3 abbreviations." ![]() It is not so hard to write clear, lucid sentences in simple English. |
phantom: Late Patrick Sawyer was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Lagos, on arrival. It was reported that Sawyer was initially assessed and treated for malaria, hepatitis, etc. The assessment and diagnosis of Ebola came later. The junior and senior doctors that managed Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital FAILED at this level. With history of acute fever (plus other symptoms) and recent arrival from Liberia, the diagnosis at presentation ought to have been ebola viral disease (EVD) UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.I agree with you. If it was a public hospital, they would have given Sawyerr anti-malaria tablets, painkillers & vitamin C, and discharged him without any delay. For First Consultants to have made the diagnosis of Ebola, they deserve commendation ! |
lilprinze: Nigerian lawmakers and political Office holders are the highest paid in the world yet they are one of the laziest in the world even US,UK,Germany and France lawmakers don't receive up to 40% of what our lawmakers receive minus the one they would still loot. yet they are more hard working and committed to their work compared to Nigerians who receive bulky salaries for sleeping and waking up under AC. while doctors who work all day and hardly have time for their selves and their families would be paid chicken change while the lazy pigs get the main salaries for doing nothing.Oh I agree with you that Nigerian lawmakers are paid an obscene amount of money, for doing too little. But these lawmakers, do not use most of our public hospitals when they fall ill. No, they head for the most expensive private hospitals or they fly abroad, even if they just want to treat a headache. ![]() So when these doctors go on strike, is it the rich lawmakers that suffer? No! It is the common man who finds it difficult to make ends meet, and has to use the public hospital in his hour of need. That is why the masses are the ones that pay a high price (in some cases with their lives) any time there is a strike. Not the lawmakers. ![]() Our doctors know these, yet they still go on strike... at the end of the day, the wrong set of people bear the brunt. And what have the doctors achieved with their so-called strike, except to inflict more pain and cruelty on the poor masses? |

lilprinze: they did not beg them to offer them their jobs back and if doctors go on strike thousands of people would die. Countries like US UK Germany and France take good care of their doctors with some special benefit which our selfish and greedy government have deprived them of so as to see more money to loot yet doctors risk their lives to save oder peoples lives yet they are not properly taken care off.Bros, who told you they did not beg? Abeg, sit down if you don't know the details of the true story. If our doctors cared about the number of patients that would die, they would not have gone on strike in the first place!! It appears you did not even know that the doctors embarked on a strike, that is why you made this comment up here...mtcheew! |
lilprinze: doctors are not well taken care of in Nigeria. so because they are doctors that is why they should notBros, why must you use US, France and UK as your example? Why are you comparing apples with watermelons? Why couldn't you have used Sierra-Leone, Liberia and Lesotho? ![]() Do Nigerian patients earn the same kind of salaries as their fellow compatriots in the US, France and UK etc, that you just mentioned? Why must you use the yardstick deployed by these European countries in treating their doctors, when the patients are not treated the same way? Take time oh! ![]() Anyway, I don't blame the doctors. I blame the government for paying their salaries, while they were on strike. They should have withheld those wages until the doctors came to their senses. ![]() Finally, I blame the lawyers for this debacle. Yee-ee-ss! If we had many more lawyers well versed in medical malpractice, that could file good lawsuits against these doctors each time they slip up in patient care, they would think 4 times before going on strike. ![]() |
Toksytoks: Government does not pay for their exams, update courses , exam materials and all. What Government pays for is the work these resident do on a daily basis. The average resident in surgery does or assist in carrying out an average of 20 surgeries in a month, you honestly feel that they do not deserve to be paid ?Who mentioned Eko Hospital there? Abeg, there is no basis for comparison oh! Go and spend 2 nights in Eko Hospital ward and see if your debit card would not be declined by the ATM due to insufficient funds, as the cost of undergoing therapy inside there, would have cleaned out your bank account!! ![]() |
lilprinze: is like FG brains have now startingWhich rights? When did doctors become trade unionists? After carrying placards & begging people to come to your aid and witness your plight? You should have told the government not to bother offering you your jobs back, and let us see for how long your 'shakara' would feed you & your families! |
emmatok: The bolded is exactly where i'm heading to.This matter is a very simple one. If Chams, Interswitch/Verve bidded for the project and were schemed out, only for the deal to be handed over to Mastercard via Access Bank, then let them go to court! ![]() Once the case comes up for hearing, invite the media to have a field day as the facts, myths and conjecture are unearthed, each time the key witnesses mount the stand. ![]() Abi? Wetin dey there? "All that is hidden shall be made known, and anything done in secret shall then come to light!" Tibins: We like free thing alot that's why we aren't moving forward. We want to great as USA but we won't try what they are doing. We are used to government doing everything for us. But with the present population of Nigeria, that path will definitely be difficult. Govt has kick-started a private sector driven economy. Which is the best, in my opinion. Let's build on this please, rather than condemning what we don't understand. How many times do the ATMs in the USA trap your cards, due to technical faults? Compare the kind of services that you get from your bank in America, with the one dished out by local banks on our shores. Do you get the same level of efficiency from your bank here in Nigeria? ![]() As for paying money to service the ATM, abeg bros leave that side. The former ATM charges were revoked under Sanusi's regime as CBN governor. When the banks published their annual accounts, NONE of them declared a loss due to the withdrawal of their charges. In fact their profits increased. So who told you that the local banks here, can't afford to fund the maintenance of their ATMs? ![]() |
Is the CRV still available? Pls confirm. |
donhils: Simple. Go to your bank and use their ATM. This charge applies only when you use ATM of another bank. What do you want Heritage Bank customers, to do? Their bank has the smallest number of branches and ATMs in Nigeria ! ![]() 8 times out of 10, their customers often end up using the ATMs of other banks as their own ATMs are so few and far between! |
Word has it, that Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh was also related to the late Owelle of Onitsha, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe the first president of Nigeria.
Ameyo Adadevoh and the Ebola conspiracy, By Daily Post Staff on August 24, 2014 @dailypostngr She was the maternal great grand-daughter of Herbert Macaulay, the founder of Nigerian nationalism, a great and courageous nationalist, the scourge of the British colonialists, the founder of the first Nigerian political party the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP), the founder of the Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) and the founder of one the most formidable political parties in our history, the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC). She was also the maternal great, great grandaughter of Thomas Babington Macauly, the founder of the first secondary school in Nigeria, Christian Missionary Grammar School, Lagos (CMS Grammar School). She was also the maternal great, great, great grand-daughter of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African Bishop of the Anglican Church, the man who first translated the Holy Bible to Yoruba, the man who first translated the Book of Common Prayer to Yoruba, the first Nigerian to be awarded a Doctorate of Divinity from Oxford University in 1864 and the man who introduced Christianity to the Lagos Colony (as it then was) and to most of south-western Nigeria. In terms of heritage, excellent blood lines and good stock you can’t do much better than that. She inherited this rich and illustrious ancestry from her mother who was a Macaulay. Her paternal bloodlines were no less distinguished. Her father Professor Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh was the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos. He was a well respected, internationally-acclaimed and very successful metabollic physician and medical consultant. His father (Ameyo’s paternal grandfather) was a leading member of one of the Royal houses in Ghana whilst his mother (Ameyo’s paternal grandmother) was a distinguished Nigerian. Ameyo’s paternal grandmother was actually Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s father’s sister. That makes Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Owelle of Onitsha, the first President of Nigeria, the great nationalist and one of the most revered statesmen and respected politicians in our history her blood uncle. Sadly Ameyo Adedovoh paid for her courage and fortitude with her life because she contracted the virus from Sawyer and she died a couple of weeks later. This was a lady of class and distinction and it reflected in all that she did till the very end. This explains why it was that when she discovered that she had been infected with the virus she insisted on keeping herself in total isolation in her home so that she would not infect anyone else until she contacted the officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health and they came to pick her up. Right up until the end she was thinking about the safety of others rather than herself. Such commitment, valour and fortitude is rarely seen. The truth is that she gave her life so that others may live. If there was ever a Nigerian heroine that was worthy of adulation and adoration it was this this deeply courageous and selfless lady. In her, her family members and son have everything to be proud of and so do the Nigerian people. I join millions of others in praying that her beautiful and noble soul rests in perfect peace as she joins her illustrious forefathers in the great beyond. Permit me to take this opportunity to also commend the courage of Justina Obi Ejelonu who was a junior colleague of Adadevoh at First Consultants and who had helped to check Sawyer in and place him in proper care the day that he was brought to the hospital from Murtala Mohammed Airport with a fever. Like Ameyo Adadevoh, Justina Obi Ejelonu has since passed away as a result of being infected by Sawyer with the ebola virus. There are no words to describe the courage and the great sacrifice that these two ladies have made for their fatherland and for their people. May they and all that is their’s be blessed from generation to generation.
http://dailypost.ng/2014/08/24/femi-fani-kayode-ameyo-adadevoh-ebola-conspiracy/ |
