whatofyou: Six to seven months. I'm a commercial truck driver who's battling with a 2rz carburetor engine. It drinks petrol like crazy upon all the tuning! I'm still considering an injector, whether 2rz or 3rz.
The price will crash when it becomes a nationwide affair, when intense competition starts. Is your truck a diesel engine or a petrol one? If it is petrol, you can convert to gas, as explained in this thread. LPG Gas conversion kits are available, just like CNG ones. But LPG refill points outnumber the CNG ones. So it would be easier to get LPG to refuel in more parts of the country, than CNG. |

mrphysics: Listen, I am not hear to boast or whatsover. I finished an got a work as physics graduate 3 months after NYSC. I work and even earn more than an entry level Medicine and surgery graduate. I got my job without knowing anyone.
There's this one thing about a physics graduate which you guys fails to understand. Physics graduates are highly analytical and logical. This skill alone can get them any way and they are highly sought for especially in IT industry where I work.
My problem is that most unemployed people are those shouting Physics Teachers up and down on nairaland Forgive them, they do not know any better. Another thing is that some of our universities these days, lack adequate course advisors, as well as guidance and counselling units where such answers are provided. I have since learnt that 'life is what you make it,' with the help of God and hard work. First degrees are just a stepping stone. It is what you build upon it, that matters. A good friend of mine, studied Biology at undergraduate level and ended up with a 2nd class lower. She immediately decided to take courses in Project Management. She later got a job in a pharmaceutical firm before moving to a telecoms company, where she worked her way through the ranks. She finally ended up as their Project Director, and is now a consultant in the industry. If she had sat down to start lamenting about her first degree in Biology, she would never have gone far. |

The company has had their hard time and all applicants that refused to go but stayed through with them will always be appreciated. Are you a shareholder in the company or a director? Why are you speaking with so much certainty? I still maintain that it is wrong to expect applicants to pay for getting jobs! Such things lead to scams... |

hayo: Don't fall into the trap of bad advisers. Below are things you should be thinking about:
1. Nigeria generally has a bad educational sector. Graduating with an Engineering degree does not necessarily mean you'd be a great Engineer. 2. The physical sciences like Maths, Physics and Chemistry can give you competitive advantage if you know how to navigate the terrain. 3. The most important thing is that you are in Year 1 - use that to your advantage and since you love Physics, push to get the best grade possible. A first class in Physics opens several doors for you. A strong 2:1 with skills like coding can also do wonders. 4. With a great grade, you will be able to fight for jobs in almost any sector in Nigeria. But more important, you would have the opportunity of getting full ride scholarship to American and Canadian Universities. That should be your goal. And I mean it. 5. In your spare time, pick a programming language. Be ahead of your peers. See if you can even do some of your assignments using such a programming language. The best software developers I know are Maths and Physics graduates. This is another career path that you can excel in. And no one would discriminate against you for not having a computer science degree.
Life is what you make of it. Also great to have mentors who can tell you the truth about the work place and not beer palour discussions. People told me back then that a Maths degree would only open doors to teaching career. It was the greatest lie from the pit of hell.
Again, do your utmost best in school. Get curious. Learn complementary skills. Browse the Internet for the advances in Physics from top Universities around the world. Go to Coursera.org and see Physics courses you can do online that challenges what they teach you in Lautech. And you are on the way to a great life. Gbam! You have said it all! A first degree is usually a stepping stone to other things. May God increase the wisdom He has deposited in your life! |

He can still go for a masters' degree, or get a PGD in Electronics. When GSM first started in this country in 2001, the first set of RF technicians and electronic specialists employed on BTS sites were graduates of electronics, physics, etc when it became difficult to get enough electrical engineering graduates, to fill such roles. Those physics and electronics graduates performed really well, and were retained by the telcos. Many went ahead to get MBAs and other degrees in IT, and rose to become head of their departments. |

XhosaNostra: I don't care what she says, this is still not normal or right, to have a "house help" that age. She even says the little girl won't be able to read her message any time soon. Why is that? Does that mean she's not currently enrolled in school to learn how to read? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how she, "the madam", is of any positive impact to the little girl's life, if there's no education. It could mean the little girl would not have access to a smartphone, tablet or a laptop to read the message at this stage of her life. It is most likely she has been enrolled in a public school, but the madam just did not state it. From the picture, the girl looks well cared for and happy. She is having a better life, than the one she had before. Instead of running from killer herdsmen or Boko haram terrorists in fear, she is now living a relatively safe and secure life. The madam should be commended in my opinion, and encouraged to do more! |

GiantParrot: Interesting post. The trend presented here is new to me. Where can one find evidence for this? And how common are such stories for men with wives having much lower educational credentials? Can you speak in terms of percentages? Guy, I grew up in Lagos, listening to gist being shared by celebrity uncles and aunts in those days. I was the unofficial bag carrier for my elders, and the fetcher of stuff for my aunts, who never missed a good party. There was plenty of gist in Lagos social circles, about who was dating whom, and whose marriage was on the rocks. The society pages of most newspapers and magazines in those days, also contained salacious details of the marital break up of top business men and women, as well as the reasons for such break ups. Those gossip columns were the predecessors of the Encomium magazines and City People, of today. At most of those parties, you would see big successful business men and top technocrats attending parties with different women who were not their 'first' wives, but the 'second.'One look at the 'first' wife, and you would know what went wrong. A lot of the time, the first wives were frumpy madams with limited education, poor dress sense and minimal social skills, while the second wives were psychedelic, trendy 'soyoyos' with panache, education and class. Do a review of divorce cases that took place in the late 80s-90s and early 2000. Most of the reasons for the dissolution of such marriages, are factors that most psychologists are familiar with. Infidelity is often cited, on the part of the man, but the truth is that distance had been created between the couples long before infidelity set in. Infertility is also another, which has nothing to do with the educational/professional mismatch between couples. I don't have info or statistics on percentages or ratios, but the gist is real. Ask most vicars or pastors in our local churches, who provide counselling to old and new couples, and they would corroborate this scenario I described in my previous post. GiantParrot: @ the bolded, Given that people have sexual affairs for all sorts of reasons, how are you certain that the mismatch between the husbands and wives' educational and professional profiles were primarily responsible for the affairs you refer to? Affairs are a sign that something is lacking in a marriage, or something has gone wrong between a couple. The mismatch between a couple's educational & professional profile, could create tension between a husband and wife, if it is not properly managed. If some spouses (due to their limited exposure and education) are unable to understand the job demands of their better half, or they become suspicious for no other reason than the fact that their husband/wives spends too much time away from home, or even spend too much time with the opposite sex, then it could be a recipe for misunderstanding. Such suspicion could be borne out of a sense of insecurity or an inferiority complex, if the poorly educated wife often compares herself with her husband's trendy educated female colleagues and associates. Some of those insecure, needy wives then make life uncomfortable for their husbands due to their suspicions. Such men might then gravitate towards women in their field or within the workplace, who they feel understand them better and can contribute intelligently to their career decisions, or choices. Before you know it, a rapport is established and it doesn't take much for an affair to start. PS: Please note, I have not said all couples who are educationally and professionally mismatched, would end up in a divorce. Some of such marriages, do work and thrive. But the mismatch has been cited in a number of cases, as one of the reasons why couples grow apart in later years. |

Jman06: Is it the telemundo loving mummy's girls that would be a better custodians of legacies
Most of those maids are better equipped to keep your legacies or project vision because they are usually sent out to interact with the real world. They also manage many aspects of their guardian's homes and that makes them better managers. All they need is just a little coaching by you as the man to handle whatever project you have. Having a degree is very different from being wise and knowing how to respond to situations. Many ladies just brandish different certificates but they ain't wise and don't know how to navigate through the storms of life. You are even talking as if the men that are in the market these days, are as good as their fathers once were, when it comes to hard work, discipline, progressive nature, good sense, compassion, respectfulness and meeting their responsibilities. Is it all these immature boys in grown up bodies, with warped mentality, that are seeking for good, domesticated girls to marry? The ones that have turned irresponsibility into a high art, and have made 'baby daddy' a fad? The ones that are Whizzkid imitators, Davido's sycophants and Soundcity copycats? In the past, 'baby daddy' was something shameful, hidden from the world and done in secret. Today, it is flaunted everywhere, like a new pair of Jordache jeans. Many of them do not even have a vision for their lives or a legacy to uphold, so what do they want to keep alive? Many of them have degrees, but little knowledge. They sport a sense of entitlement, that really does not make sense. Yet they expect to be applauded for it. May God deliver us all.... |

Hehehe....the more things change, the more they stay the same. First, go and marry a maid after acquiring all your degrees, and come back here in a few years to share your experience. Several years back, a lot of men in our fathers' generation, married naive, young ladies with limited education, zero exposure and minimal ambition, believing that they would be good wives and life partners, because such women possessed domestic skills in abundance. Okay, o! Fast forward, 10-15 years later after such marriages were contracted, those men moved up the career ladder and were holding distinguished positions, flying all over the world and making good money. That is when many of them realised that their wives who had limited education and poor social skills despite their domestic training, were actually a poor fit for them, or did not match up to their aspirations any longer. So what next? They traded their 'maid-like' wives for newer, improved, educated and sophisticated models. Those new women or 'wives' were good to look at, educationally qualified, intelligent to boot and possessed social skills that could charm birds off the trees. In addition, their degrees and intelligence were a perfect complement to the men's newly acquired wealth. Such ladies also knew how to make mouth watering delicacies, that could make the men lick their plates. So what changed? When the men had nothing, and were just moving up in their careers, their own desires were also limited. So they chose to marry women who they felt would not ask for too much, while managing the home front. As such men rose in their careers, positions, wealth, status and business/political circles, their tastes changed. Their lifestyles got upgraded. And they needed wives, consorts or partners that could fit the bill. In those days, such men had affairs with their secretaries, business associates, female colleagues and those at par with them in the workplace. Quite a number of them ended up marrying such women as second wives, with or without a divorce. Don't forget - polygamy is not a crime in parts of Africa. It is ironic how the same cycle still keeps repeating itself. I hope the men who are now seeking for maids who can clean, cook and perform well in the other room, would not change their tastes a few years later, and trade-in such women for newer, improved, educated models. |

Xisnin: Ignorance is a disease. Your uneducated maids are getting married because they have little to no expectations from their suitors. It is the same reason why uneducated non-maids hardly remain single for long. How many of these concerned parents will allow their educated daughters marry an artisan or an agbero?
Educated maids face the same problems as educated non-maids.
If you want more suitors for your daughters throw the door wide open for all suitors. Thank me later. True talk! If all it took for women to get married, was knowing how to cook and clean, trust me - many of them would have become culinary experts by now, in order to snag a man, and wear his ring. I have seen so-oo-oo many single women in their 30s and 40s, who know how to cook, clean and take care of the home, but are still very much single. Instead, the men who approach them end up chopping their food, money and time, only to abscond when they have had their fill. Choosing the right spouse goes beyond looking at cooking, cleaning and housekeeping. But the small boys on this thread, will not understand such things... The quality of men being raised these days, leaves a lot to be desired. |

She further stated that after training Maids on how to clean, good cooks and do good things. men will leave their daughters and marry the maids.
What do you think of our girls manners these days?
https://questionnigeria.com/question/nigerian-woman-laments-over-house-maids-getting-good-husbands/ Her post was incomplete. She did not tell us the type of suitors that are marrying their maids....last time I checked, some of those suitors were drivers, cooks, security men and janitors. Would she agree if those same suitors came forward to marry her daughters? She should let us know.... salt1: I'm curious to know this woman's social circle. I haven't seen the men marrying maids.
I know of Dangote's daughter getting married. Or is she a maid?
Rubbish generalization! I wonder, o! And some of these women who are now lamenting that their daughters are not getting married, had also rejected different suitors who came much earlier to marry their daughters, on the basis of some flimsy excuses like "he doesn't come from our place, he looks one kind, he lacks prospects etc." |
