​The Federal Government has added another 9,400 beneficiaries to the N-power scheme under the Social Investment Programme, SIP.

Addressing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting yesterday, Zaynab Ahmed, the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, said the SIP had up to 9.76 million beneficiaries at the moment.

The minister said the N-power scheme had 200,000 beneficiaries already deployed as teachers, agriculture extension workers and health extension workers.

She said: “So, we are adding to these numbers by moving to the N-Power knowledge category. This is a category where non-graduates will be trained in skills and attached to companies, where they will gain experience during apprenticeship. The categories are three: first is a group of 2,000 beneficiaries that will be trained in software development, web development and will be equipped with devices.”

“Second category is the supply of 3,000 devices that will be used by staff of the National Cash Transfer office at the national, state, local and Ward levels to register beneficiaries of the National Cash Transfer programme to able to record their data, BVN and their biometrics information as well as the location of where they are.

“The third approval was the training of 2,900 beneficiaries in building, construction and automobile related industries skills. This training will cover electrical installations, carpentry, joinery, welding and fabrication, plumbing and piping fitting, paintings and decoration as well as automobile technology.

She added that, “The training will be for a period of three months and also one apprenticeship attachment. At the end of the training they will be given tools related to the trade that they trained for, so that they will become self-employed.”

“The fourth category is the N-Power creating. It is meant to teach our youths on how to cover their creative skills into technology to be able to do animation, graphic illustration, script writing and post production activities. There will be 1,500 beneficiaries and would be trained for a period of one month and will have two months apprenticeship in a relevant company and agency that has the capacity to train them.”

“At the end of this training, each of this group of beneficiaries will be going with the devices that will be provided to them. The devices will have uploaded special software specific to the skills they have acquired. Our target is that at the end of the day they will be self-employed and be able to employ more people.”

​Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the threat by National Assembly to commence impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the National Assembly at a joint session, on Tuesday, threatened to invoke its powers against the President, if nothing was done to end the ongoing harassment and humiliation of perceived political opponents by the police.

Lawmakers also said President Buhari must be held accountable for the actions of his appointees and must ensure a strict adherence to the rule of law.

Reacting, Omokri berated the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara for disclosing their intentions.

In a tweet, Omokri said Saraki and Dogara should have “invoke those powers” without disclosing it to the public.

He added that heaven won’t fall if Buhari is removed.

The tweet reads, “When will @BukolaSaraki and @YakubDogara learn? Don’t broadcast your intentions by saying “the National Assembly will not hesitate to invoke its constitutional powers”.

“Invoke those powers already! Heaven wont fall! Remember history doesn’t repeat itself. Men repeat history.”

​Nigerian actress and entrepreneur, Iyabo Ojo in a new Instagram post disclosed that she is done with doing business in Nigeria following some government policies.

According to Iyabo Ojo, not much is happening in the business world and the little she makes, the government takes it all and much more.

Iyabo Ojo who ventured into the hospitality business and became a food vendor with her amala joint which she called Abula Spot in a 2017 interview, disclosed that she sold some of her landed property and her jewellery in order to achieve her dream.

She said:-

“I did not collect a loan to open my business, I saved. I had been planning to open this place for a very long time, so I had been saving.

When I wanted to get my new office building, I sold some of my property. I sold almost all my gold if not everything. During that time, I sold one batch and when I needed more money, I sold the rest. I told myself to forget about gold for now because I know that I can make the money back later. With the support of good people as well, I was able to get my office building. The first lady of Kwara State who came to inaugurate the building supported me. Some of my godparents also supported me because I told them that I wanted to sell amala.”

​The Special Assistant on Media to Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (M.O.B.), Ahmed Salami, has dispelled the insinuation that his boss had been in coma since Friday evening after he was hit by bullets at the rally organized for Dr Kayode Fayemi, by the party.

Bamidele and six others were hit by bullets and sustained various degrees of injuries through gunshots fired by a policeman drafted to maintain orderliness in the rally attended by mammoth crowd of party adherents and admirers of the governorship candidate of the party.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti by his Media Aide, Ahmed Salami on Saturday, he admitted that Bamidele immediately fell and passed out due to the trauma he suffered when the bullets suddenly pierced his abdominal region and leg.

“We appreciate his supporters and APC members across the state. He has since regained consciousness.

“The way he fell in the full glare of the crowd and party supporters fueled the insinuation that he is still in coma.

“Let me assure our supporters in Ekiti and other concerned Nigerians that Bamidele is not in coma. He has regained consciousness and fast recuperating due to prompt and intensive medical treatments he received thereafter.

“It’s true that Bamidele has passed through major surgeries and the bullets have been removed from his abdominal region and leg. We implore our supporters to be calm and be law abiding whilst the situation is under control.

“We appreciate our people for the outpouring of affections since the incident occurred and this underscored the strong bond of unity among the APC members and Ekiti people in general.

“We want to say that the shooting was very unfortunate and unwarranted in view of the decorous and peaceful ways our people comported themselves from Akure, Ondo State capital via Ikere and to Ado Ekiti.

“We charge the police authorities to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the shooting and bring whoever that is complicit to justice.

“We specially appreciate the governor of Ondo State, Barrister Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Senator Ayo Arise and other party bigwigs for the quick responses in saving Bamidele’s life and that of other victims.”

​Edgal Imohimi, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, on Friday said six out of ten young people in Lagos were cultists.

He stated this at a town hall meeting with some residents of Surulere area of the state.

The forum was on “ Partnership with Community for Crime Prevention.’’

Imohimi called for state of emergency on cultism, saying that cultism among youths in Lagos was alarming.

The Commissioner said, “I instructed one of my officers to carry out a research on the reason for increase in cultism among the young ones, and it was revealed that it gives them a kind of advantage over their peers.”

He added that, “For some, they joined to avoid being intimidated. Whatever reason it is, the blame is on us parents for not caring enough about our children.”

Imohimi appreciated the residents of Surulere for their support in crime fighting and criminality in their community, adding that the level of criminal in the area has drastically reduced.

He urged the residents of Surulere to continue to provide useful information to the police in their area, urging them to report any “unprofessional” conduct of police officers.

He also called on parents and guardians to monitor their children’s movement to prevent them from being used as political thugs during the forthcoming general elections.

Imohimi added, “The election year is approaching and it is time we started talking to ourselves. Do not allow politicians to come and use your children as touts.

“All you need to do is get your PVC and vote peacefully. Let us not allow some people come from elsewhere to disrupt the peace in Lagos.’’

​Africa’s richest man and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said that he would like to be known as the biggest philanthropist on the continent.

Dangote stated this on Wednesday in Lafia while disbursing N130 million micro grant to 13,000 vulnerable and less privileged women in Nasarawa State.

“I do not only want to be known as Africa’s richest man but the biggest philanthropist in Africa. I will continue to use my resources and my voice to help shape a better Nigeria and Africa as a whole,” he said.

Dangote said he started the foundation in 1993 to improve the lives of the less fortunate and make a positive difference in the growth of Nigeria.

He said the four major goals of the foundation were health and nutrition, education, economic empowerment and disaster relief.

He explained that the grant scheme was one of the components of the economic empowerment programme of the foundation.

Dangote said it was aimed at providing disadvantaged and vulnerable women in the country with a one-off unconditional N10, 000 cash transfer to boost their household income generation.

” This we believe will help their vulnerability and meet their livelihood needs,” he added .

He explained that the programme, which was launched a few years ago, was targeted at a minimum of 1,000 women in each of the 774 local government areas across the country.

“It is estimated that we would spend about N10 billion with some states with a large population getting a little bit more.

“We at Aliko Dangote foundation are happy to continue providing support to the most vulnerable and deserving members of the society across the country,” he said.

Benefits.

The scholarship includes tuition and other fees, allowance of 117,000 yen per month, an additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions, and travel costs to and from Japan. The scholarship period will last for five years from April 2019 to March 2024, including one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrival in Japan.

Eligibility.

(1) Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they choose the nationality of the foreign country and give up their Japanese nationality by the date of their arrival in Japan. 2. Applicants who have completed their studies at a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school in countries other than Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2019 are eligible.)

3. Other than the above 1 and 2 conditions, applicants who are eligible for enrollment in a Japanese university at the time of application.

(4) Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.

(5) Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan.

(6) Arrival in Japan: In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2019. If an applicant is to enroll in his/her university from the fall semester through direct placement, he/she must be able to arrive in Japan during the period specified by the accepting university within two weeks before and after the starting date of the university’s relevant academic term for that year.

(7) Visa Requirement: An applicant shall, in principle, obtain a “Student” visa at the Japanese diplomatic mission located in the applicant’s country of nationality, and enter Japan with the residence status of “Student.”

​The Nigerian Breweries PLC has launched the 2018 Maltina Teacher of the year award. The award also known as Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was established in 2015 to identify, showcase and reward outstanding teachers in Nigeria.

In a paper to formally commence this year’s edition, Head of Department of Educational Foundations at the University of Lagos, Professor Ngozi Osarenren explained that teachers are invaluable drivers of societal norms and the teaching profession must be respected to attract the best and the brightest.

Osarenren, a former Commissioner for Education in Edo State, noted that if Nigeria must be saved from the menace of unqualified and incompetent teachers, the nation must find career oriented teachers who want to do the job for their passion and not because it is the last option available.

She listed other factors that could attract the best hands to the profession to include professionalisation of teaching, reasonable and guaranteed salary, job security and competitive entry requirements for would be teachers.

On his part, the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr Jordi Borrut Bel explained that in 2015, the Nigerian Breweries Plc expanded its intervention in education in Nigeria to teachers through the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative.

According to Borrut Bel, who was represented by the Company’s Corporate Affairs Adviser, Mr Kufre Ekanem, said the initiative was hinged on the realisation that teachers seldom get the recognition they deserve in spite of the pivotal role they play in determining the quality of education. He disclosed that so far, the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative has produced 69 state champions and three overall winners.

He further disclosed that entries for the 2018 Maltina Teacher of the Year opened on Friday, May 25, 2018 and will close on July 2 nd 2018. Interested teachers are advised to download application forms from the Maltina website – www.maltina-nigeria.com. According to Borrut Bel, the 2018 Maltina Teacher of the Year will get N1 million, a trophy and another N1 million every year for the next five years, and a block of classrooms built at the school where he or she teaches.

The first runner-up will receive N1 million and a trophy, while the second runner-up will have N750, 000 and a trophy. In addition, each state champion, including the winner and the first and the second runners-up will get N500, 000.

Also at the flag-off, the 2018 Maltina Teacher of the Year, Mr Felix Udochukwu Ariguzo urged government and other corporate organisations to emulate the example of Nigerian Breweries and motivate teachers so as to improve the standard of education in the country.

​Nigerian OAP N6 in a new Instagram post today, raised an alarm over a poisonous snake identified as Inland Taipan which has invaded Lekki area of Lagos.

According to OAP N6, the snake which is native to Australia but for some weird reason have been spotted in Lekki, is the 2nd most deadliest snake in the world and can kill hundreds with just one drop of venom.

His post reads;

​STUDENTS of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, in Ondo State, yesterday, decried incessant harassment and breach of their fundamental human rights by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the state.

The students, under the aegis of Concern for Human Rights, CHR, accused the security agents of harassing their colleagues at FUTA North and South gates.

The CHR President, David Belele speaking on behalf of the students told newsmen in Akure “that it is imperative for the student populace to be sensitized.

Belele said: “The security agencies in FUTA hemisphere, the South Gate, and the North Gate, are terrorizing young Nigerian youths. There is a need for us to come together as people who believe that the right of the people should not be tampered with.

“Several times they asked the students to bring out their phones for search. The last time I checked the Police Act, Part 4, Section 28, it does not give a right for the police to search Nigerian citizens.

While narrating his experience, Balele said “on my way going to the School of Health three days ago, I met some security agencies on the road and they asked me to bring out my phones. I told them they don’t have any right to ask for my phone.”

Continuing, he said: “They threatened to shoot me. But as far as I am concerned, we have to stop the illegal harassment and intimidation in FUTA environment and beyond.”

Reacting, spokesperson of the Ondo Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph confirmed that a complaint had been lodged and that “the Commissioner of Police had taken strict measures to investigate the allegations.

Any police officer indicted in the allegations would be properly dealt with after the thorough investigation.”

Similarly the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, castigated the recklessness of bloggers in his speech during the Annual National Conference and General Meeting of the NIPR held in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, 27 April 2017.

According to the minister of information, ”today anyone with a phone and data is a journalist”

Meanwhile the issue of professionals and amateurs still remain in the news industry, prompting questions like who are bloggers, what are their level of education, which area do they specialize in.

​Former BB Naija 2018 housemate, Anto will be playing the lead role in a comedy stage play titled ‘Official Couple’.

Anto has been giving snippets of the play in form of lovely pre-wedding themed photos of she and her co-star Chuks the general.

This will be Anto’s first acting role and she is excited as she shares the trailer for the play on her IG page.

In her recent Instagram post, she shared a behind-the-scenes teaser from the photoshoot for the upcoming play.

​Former Barcelona and PSG star, Ronaldinho is reported to be marrying his two girlfriends, Priscilla Coelho and Beatriz Souza at the same time.

The Brazilian ace could tie the knot in August with his two ‘fiancees’ after proposing to them January last year.

The two women are said to have been living ‘harmoniously’ with the former Barcelona star since December at his £5million Rio de Janeiro mansion.

Ronaldinho, who is claimed to be “adept at polygamy”, started dating Beatriz in 2016 but continued his relationship with Priscilla, which began several years earlier.

He will marry the two women at a private ceremony inside the Santa Monica condominium, in the upmarket Barra da Tijuca district in Rio, where he has lived since 2015, according to a columnist from Brazil’s O Dia newspaper.

She shared the good news on her Instagram saying, “I am very joyful and grateful to God Almighty. Knowing that all of these happened as a result of what Bishop David Oyedepo gave to me.”

B’Dash got married in 2016 to her manager, comedian and the publisher of Lagos Comedy News Ebuka Peters Ekwuelechi a.k.a Ambassador.
