Culture / See Ranking Of Obas In Yorubaland by Lautechgossip(m): 11:34am On Aug 01, 2018
In Yorubaland, the ranking of – Kings or Obas – has been a topic which has generated much controversy over the years.

Moreso, the issue was once more raised as reactions continue to trail the snubbing of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.

In what seem like an answer to the lingering question of who are the most powerful kings in Yorubaland, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo , revealed the top 5 paramount rulers in Yorubaland while making remarks in Lagos during the launch of an Endowment Fund for a Chair at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago – Iwoye in March, 2016.

Here are there positions:

1. Ooni of Ife– is the most powerful king in Yorubaland. According to Alake, the Oni is the first of the five principal Obas in Yorubaland just like the Sultan is the highest ruler in northern Nigeria.

2. Alaafin of Oyo– second in ranking of Obas in Yorubaland. The Oyo Dynasty dates back to the Old Oyo empire which recognises Alaafin as emperor.

3. Oba of Benin – in some quarters, it is believed that the Oba of Benin is the highest as he heads the Eweka dynasty of the great Benin Kingdom. It is also said that the Yoruba people descended from Benin hence, the title of Oba, used to mean king was first created by Oba Eweka 1, Benin’s first Oba who ascended in 1180.

4. Alake of Egbaland – is the paramount ruler of Egbaland in Ogun State. Egba consists of Egba Alake, Owu Kingdom, Oke-Ana and Gbagura.

5. Awujale of Ijebuland – is the least of the five principal Obas in Yorubaland. Ijebu kingdom dates back to pre-colonial period of 15th century.

Politics / Residents Protest Oyo/ogbomosho Bad Road (photos, Video) by Lautechgossip(m): 11:19am On Aug 01, 2018
The situation of Ogbomoso – Oyo road has become the shabby of it pride and embarrassment to the Nation.

Setting the record straight, the road that ought to be an altruistic route has turned to a deathtrap where many lives are loss on daily basis.

Without been extravagant with words hardly will a day pass without recording one accident or the other.

The protesters have therefore given Oyo state Governments and Federal Governments an ultimatum of 2019 to fix the road or incur the wrath of residents.

The Trunk A Road constructed over 50years ago is a section of route A1, one of the four North-South arterial Highways in the sense that Ibadan_Oyo-Ogbomosho-Ilorin Road is basically a corridor that links Southern and Northern parts of the country, which is very strategic in the movement of goods and services, particularly from Lagos ports and industrial complexes, to the Northern Nigeria.”

Over the years, the road had deteriorated to a level where maintenance was no longer feasible, having outlived its design life and the road becoming very dangerous to motorists and pedestrians as well as to harness the waste of man-hours on the old road due to traffic bottle necks, particularly as a result of incessant accidents.

The protesters displayed placards, which read: ‘F.G.N stop accident, Repair our Road,’ and ‘Enough of wasting of Lives,’ among others.

On the last note the Council Secretary urge the Federal Government to hear the plea and out cry of the inhabitants of the valiant city and act on time to avoid unnecessary revolt.

Fashion / 19 Quality Dress Code For Men by Lautechgossip(m): 10:43pm On Jul 31, 2018
Looking good is very important, but how many men actually know what it takes to look good

Here are 19 style rules every man should live by

1. Your belt should match your shoes.

2. If you are wearing a black suit, wear black shoes.

3. If you are wearing gray, blue, tan or a combination thereof, please use brown shoes.

4. Get a haircut regularly. Don’t wait until everyone around you knows you need one.

5. Never go out without a wristwatch.

6- If you want a thinner and smart look, go for vertical-striped shirts.

7- You should have at least three suits in your wardrobe.

8- Your tie should cover your collar button down to your top trouser button. Anything longer or shorter makes you look awkward.

9- Have at least one pair of dress shoes.

10- Wear slippers only at home and the beach.

Never leave your house with slippers.

11- If you want to use a tie, use it properly.

Avoid wearing a tie with an untucked shirt or wearing a tucked shirt with a slightly loosened tie.

12- Never match blazers with dress trousers.

13- Do not leave your house with wrinkled clothes.

14- Match your belt to your belt loops. Don’t wear a thin dress belt with trousers that have big belt loops.

15- Always have an elegant pen with you. It helps you look sophisticated and ready.

16- Have lots of white shirts because white shirts make you look like a boss.

17- Wear simple t-shirts without a photo or write-up on it. They make you look simple but sophisticated.

18- Your trousers are too short if you can see your socks as you walk. Your trousers should end just at the top of your shoes.

19- Never be seen wearing boxer or vest out of your bedroom, they are called under wear.

Brothers, take note of the above.

Madam, show these to your husband. Make him look trendy.

Crime / 4 Policemen Sentenced To Death By Hanging In Uyo For Killing Okada Rider by Lautechgossip(m): 6:43am On Jul 30, 2018
4 policemen have been sentenced to death in Akwa Ibom State for killing a commercial motorcyclist otherwise called Okada rider in Uyo, the state capital. The convicted policemen are Inspector Moses Akpaete, Inspector Idoko Sampson, Corporal Enobong Udo and Corporal Godwin Nnanna, all attached to C Division.

The presiding judge, Justice Ifiok Ukana, found the policemen guilty of conspiracy in the murder of Mr. Felix Akpan of Ibiakpan in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibmo State. The incident occurred on Abak Road by Federal Secretariat, Uyo on October 16, 2016 when the policemen on patrol fired at the motorcyclist, who refused to stop when they accosted him for operating at the prohibited area of the city. The killing caused public outrage leading to the arrest and prosecution of the policemen.

The convicts admitted that one of them fired at the motorcyclist because they were attacked by mob while attempting to arrest Akpan. But in his submission, Justice Ukana said there was no evidence that the policemen acted in self-defence as they were not attacked by the fleeing cyclist or any mob.

The judge noted that the decision of the policemen to flee from the scene of the incident after the shooting showed that they were united in their intention to kill Akpan. According to him, the law is clear on the penalty which awaits any person who commits or conspires to commit such heinous crime whether principal or accessory to the crime.

The judge prayed God to have mercy upon the souls of the convicted policemen.

Politics / 2019 Election: Satguru Maharaji Reacts Over N242 Billion Proposed By Buhari by Lautechgossip(m): 10:31am On Jul 28, 2018
The founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji has declared that the sum of 242 billion Naira as the amount being proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari to fund the 2019 general elections was not too much to fund the elections in a country like Nigeria.

Maharaj Ji who berated individuals and groups who making negative comments on the forthcoming elections said that contrary to their opinions, many would be surprised that the general elections would be free, fair and successful.

He spoke while addressing journalists on the state of the nation at a press conference held at Satguru Maharaj Ji village, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Friday.

It can be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari proposed the estimated sums of N242,445,322,600.00 as the aggregate cost of the 2019 elections.

But Maharaj Ji while speaking on the proposed amount as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s readiness for the elections argued that no amount of money was too big to ensure free, fair and acceptable elections in a country like Nigeria that is blessed with both many untapped natural and human resources.

Maharaj Ji who declared that countries like Nigeria that is the giant of Africa should not be concerned about how much it spends on elections and security maintained that Nigerians should be more concerned about the results of the elections and not the money spent.

He said that President Buhari can spend trillions of Naira on elections so far as the money was tailored towards what it was meant for.

He said, “73 million registered voters in a country of over 180 million people like Nigeria that is giant of Africa, and 242 billion Naira for the general elections in 2019. See, look at yourself, we are comfortable people, we are the giant of Africa. If the President wants to use trillions of Naira for the elections, it is not too much, if the President is using billions for elections and security it is not too much, no amount is too much.

“What we need to do is to ask the INEC to explain to us what they want to use the money for. We are talking about underage voting, they want to eradicate that, then the votes will count.

“N242 billion is nothing, so long as the money spent on the elections will manifest.

Maharaj Ji while speaking further charged Nigerians irrespective of their political or ethnic backgrounds to support the present administration of President Buhari and the INEC to ensure that their votes count in the 2019 elections and acceptable by all and sundry.

He added that all Nigerians must work together as one entity, noting that to keep Nigeria one was a task that must be done.

Maharaj Ji said, “This is what we need to do. All of us, all Nigerians, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Fulani, all of us in Nigeria. We need to keep Nigeria as one. To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.”

Education / LAUTECH Tuition Fee: Oyo Assembly Sets Up Committee To Meet Osun Lawmakers by Lautechgossip(m): 2:29pm On Jul 26, 2018
The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday mandated the education committees of both Oyo and Osun states Houses of Assembly to meet both the governing council and management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso over the increment of the institution’s fees for over 300 per cent.

The institution had last week in a circular obtained by Kikiotolu announced that medical and nursing students of the institution are to pay N300,000 as tuition.

But, the House presided by its Speaker, Hon. Olagunju Ojo while expressing concern over the development at its plenary on Tuesday mandated the education committees of both Oyo and Osun houses of Assemblies, the two owner states to meet the governing council of the university and its management.

This was sequel to a matter of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Wumi Oladeji (Ogbomoso North) who described the increase in the school fees as astronomical, and called for its reduction.

Oladeji, while reacting warned of the consequences of the increment to include the tendency for students, especially the indigent, to drop out of school.

She added that such action can discourage others from seeking admission into higher education.

Politics / Osun Pensioners In Fresh Protest Over Non Payment Of Pensions, Gratuities by Lautechgossip(m): 10:45am On Jul 24, 2018
Pensioners in Osun State hit the streets of Osogbo, the state capital again on Tuesday to stage a fresh protest against the non-payment of their pensions and gratuities.

The retirees said the state government was owing them 18 months pensions because of the modulated payment policy since 2015, adding that many of them who retire since 2011 had not been paid their gratuities.

Hundreds of retirees gathered at Ayetoro area of the town as early as 7am and they marched towards the popular Olaiya Junction singing and praying to God to save them from starvation.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions denouncing the nonpayment of their entitlements, the senior citizens said about 2,500 of their members had died as at March, 2018.

The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Osun State chapter, Alhaji Ganiyu Salawu, said Governor Rauf Aregbesola had refused to pay the 33 per cent as well as the 142 per cent increment implemented for pensioners.

Salawu said, “Majority of our people are dying of hunger. Our entitlement not regular, and the issue of half salaries and pension is very bad. The 33 per cent increase implemented in 2010 has not been implemented. The 142 per cent increment is not paid also.

“We have written letters to the governor but there is no acknowledgement of our letters, we also wrote five reminder letters, still there is no response.

“We don’t have any grudge against the government but we want our entitlements. We are not politicians and no politician is using us, what we what is that out entitlements should be paid so that we can begin to live a decent life. We have worked so hard and now that we are supposed to be eating the fruits of our labour, the government is depriving us.

“Some of our members have been ejected from homes because they can’t pay rent, our children are out of schools. Some of our graduates are jobless, so, how do they take care of themselves let alone their parents.”

The leader of Forum of 201/2012 Retirees, Alhaji Yemi Lawal, said no fewer than 2,500 retirees had died as at March saying the majority of the deceased died due to starvation and frustration.

Lawal said. “The governor is using the money to construct roads and build schools even where there are no pupils.

“A kilometre of road is constructed on the average with N600 million in most states in the country but in Osun, it is N1.2 billion and this is why there is focus on road construction.

“Our people are dying on daily basis and that is why we are out to protest again. We cannot continue to watch this happening on a daily basis. The governor was paid a bailout of N35 billion, Paris club repayment and budget support of N14 billion but he is still owing us. This agitation will continue until we are paid.

We have recorded 2500 deaths among our members as at March this year and a retired headmaster committed such in Ejigbo. We wrote to the lawmakers at the House of Assembly and they have not responded since. The lawmakers are fighting for their pockets.”

The chairperson, Women Wing, Osun State chapter of NUP, Mrs. Ronke Aderibigbe, said returnees had been facing very tough challenges due to the problem of unpaid pensions and gratuities.

She said many retirees had been turned to beggars because of the financial challenges they were facing while calling on the state government to pay them.

explaining further, the commissioner said that while the search was ongoing at Ijebu-Igbo, the location of the supposed kidnappers changed to Ikotun in Lagos and the search party had to move from Ijebu-Igbo to Ikotun in Lagos to rescue the victim.

“When the fake kidnappers realised that the Police were closing in on them, the supposed victim decided to call the complainant to inform him that she has been released, after he had deposited the sum of N8,000 naira in her UBA account number.”

Imohimi said that when Adilewa was being debriefed upon her release, she confessed that she actually planned the fake kidnap with her friend, one Ogunbanjo.

“She provided her with accommodation at No. 174, Adeboye road, Okesopin, Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State to hide and the phone that they used in demanding for the ransom.

“Investigation is in progress and on completion, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” the commissioner said.

Religion / Challenges Of Being A Pastor’s Kid: Travail & Personal Struggles by Lautechgossip(m): 7:25am On Jul 22, 2018
Sons and daughters of gospel ministers are having hard times living up to the expectations of their lineage owing to a combination of psychological and societal factors with damning consequences, reports Sunday Oguntola

Amos Ige (not real name) is naturally a likeable, transparent personality. But he hides his parents’ identity much more than his net worth. He would rather tell people his financial worth than reveal the true identity of his parents.

“It’s supposed to be an asset that I am a Pastor’s Kid (PK) but I am not proud to disclose that side of me. If there is anything I guard jealously, it is letting people know that my father and mother are pastors,” the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert states.

But he used to be so proud of that heritage until few years ago. “Growing up, I was so all over town telling everyone I am a PK. I received special privileges and preferences, especially within the Christian community,” he confirms.

It all changed for him in 2014. “I dated a lady in church and before you could say Jack, she became pregnant,” he recalls. All hell was let loose. The poster boy of the church suddenly became a leper. Nobody wanted to have anything to do with him again. His parents felt so let down they almost disowned him.

Beyond pardons

For the first time, the pressure of being a PK got at him. “I felt so disappointed with myself. I started thinking I didn’t deserve such wonderful parents. I felt literally like the Devil. Till date, I haven’t gotten over big let-down. It occurred to me that PKs are expected to be so above board that our mistakes are unpardonable,” Ige shares.

The feeling of living beyond pardons has taken Ige out of the church and left his relations with his parents strained. “We talk occasionally but things are never the same with us again. They felt I destroyed their testimony and credibility as ministers. That is never my intention at all. I didn’t wake up one day with that in mind.

“But even if I did, I think I should have been forgiven and pardoned. I find it odd we preach so much forgiveness but hardly extend it to others when they commit seemingly unpardonable sins,” Ige states.

According to him, there are so many PKs in his shoes because they are subjected to higher standards. “I know we should be examples but we can also falter and when we do, we shouldn’t be written off. It appears everyone expects a PK to be so holy and without blemishes that when we falter, we should be crucified.”

Unrealistic expectations

A PK, who simply identified herself simply as Beatrice recalled how she lived a troubled childhood because of her parents’ status. She said: “I grew up in a mission house with my parents always telling me I must be different from others. My church folks also pointed out when I make mistakes that I shouldn’t because my parents are pastors.

“When I fought, they say ‘a pastor’s child shouldn’t do that’. Whatever I did, I kept hearing the same thing. Everyone expected me to be so different and holy. Living under that kind of pressure killed me off. I ended up withdrawing to my shell and living a pretentious life.” Beatrice, a single mother, said the unrealistic expectations placed on pastors’ children make many of them turn out bad.

Beatrice left the church as soon as she was out of home. She ended up with a man who impregnated her before she returned to complete her tertiary education. “At a point, I just told myself I couldn’t live up to the holy standards of a pastor’s child. I gave up completely and chose a different path from my parents. The pressure on us is enormous and many are buckling under them,” she laments.

Poor parenting skills

Marriage counsellor, Pastor Bisi Adewale, is worried with the trend of many PKs turning out bad. “It should call for concerns because it can be heartbreaking to have children working against what you stand for.”

Adewale attributes to the worrisome trend to poor parenting skills by most pastors. “You see parenting is a skill that must be learnt and practised consistently. Pastors’ children are not any different from others. They must be nurtured in the faith and trained well to take after their parents.

“But when parents don’t mirror good conducts or place undue pressure on them, they will certainly give in. Yes, the Devil works extra hard to fight their turning out well but I believe the buck of the challenge is on how they are brought up,” he states.

Religious impositions

Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Assembly Lagos, Dr Caleb Andrews, believes many pastors overstretch their children to the point of irritation.

“There are so many religious activities we do that make our children associate Christianity with rituals. For example, most pastors force their children to wake up by 5am for morning devotion.

“Those kids will grow up resenting that practise because it deprives them of sleeping well. There is nowhere it is stated we cannot have devotions in the nights or afternoon.

“We impose church attendance on them too because we are pastors. There is the likelihood they will resent such imposition if we don’t attach benefits to them. We live in an age where children are resentful of impositions and religious rites. If we are not careful, we would lose them for life,” the graduate of psychology shares.

The founder of Good Heritage Ministry Abuja, Apostle Ekene Okon, urges pastors to live true to their callings, especially at home. “They have to be exemplary and model good conducts to the children. Once the kids spot any contradiction with what they preach and do, they will be tuned off.

“Besides, we must allow these kids to make mistakes and learn from them. I know it is tough but we should let people know pastors’ children can make mistakes and should not be condemned when they do. When we give the impression they are above mistakes, we are setting them up for a big fall,” he submits.

A teen minister, Korede Abolade, believes pastors’ children should be allowed to grow without undue pressure. “From my observation, many of them are already conditioned for a big fall. The church and their parents tell them to be so good without working on how to get that done. Many of them either pretend or grumble underneath. That is why they are so happy to leave home because they feel so choked,” she states.
