Business / Re: Opening A Pharmacy by layi(m): 12:57pm On Apr 21, 2007
Pharmaceutical retailing is good business in terms invstment security cos whilst people can starve themselves

of other luxuries (or even necessities) of life, no one wants to remain sick regardless of the threat level of

such ailment. You wont loose except u r in 1 obscure village where all they know is "agbo".
That said, i also believe that capital isnt as important as the human resources manning a business cos a bad

manager can pull down a conglomerate within days. All it takes is "ebbing" passion. So you've got to have a

passion for the business venture and physically present to make a start up succeed. Never run a start up by

Proxy.
Note also that Location matters a lot. Your store has to be accessible and close to related services

(clinics, schools, gyms etc). If u can get a location near a general hospital, better, cos they hardly hav drugs

tongue .
Procedure:
- Get shop
- Furnish with drug shelves and get a small standby generator(1.5kva)
- Register business name
- Register businees with Nafdac
- Get drugs distributors (used directory at Nafdac or DDAs)
-Stock shop wit all types of drugs from anagelstics to prophylatics.
- Hire 1 or 2 knowledgable staff. A resident pharmacist is preferable but wit ur budget, i dont think u can

afford 1 except u dont mind running at a loss, seriously

However I know of several businesses that are more profitable that pharmacy anyway.

Business / Re: How To Reach Nigerians Abroad by layi(m): 11:45pm On Apr 18, 2007
Note that there are so many african shops in the diaspora that 'they' can easily walk into. You have to be a master strategist in this. Make sure ur service is in demand first else all efforts would be wasted.

Of course you can sponsor programs on afrisat-usa, ben tv-uk etc but If u plan on being physically ubiquitous in the diaspora, then i bet u'll go bankrupt quick.
You'll do fine wit a strong internet presence. Afterall your target are always online as well.
Your best bet is to acheive and maintain a PR1 (Page Rank 1) on Google.
This can be achieved via any of these 3 methods
1. Start (buy) adwords campaign (carefully select hot keywords and bid higher, if u have the budget)
2. Get your links spread all over google-indexed websites with rich nigerian content and traffic
3. Employ 'working' SEO techniques on your website- This helps google's search crawler read your site better.

It'll be better if your avdertising campaign is concerted into a single google campaign as opposed to buying up space on all the "nigerians-in-the-diaspora" websites. There are hundreds of them if not thousands , yet alltogether can't match the net-coverage offered by google (or yahoo). Just remember that 3 of 5 nigerians in the diaspora visit google to search for stuffs.
For your info and records, a bulk of nairaland members got here directly (or indirectly) through google.

However, since your line of business is non-digital and deals more with logistics, you can't neglect having partners abroad. I'm sure you'll get able hands here.

Romance / Re: Match-making: Does It Really Work? by layi(m): 2:04pm On Mar 21, 2007
lol @felie. Matchmaking isnt same as allen levels.

@topic
It'll work if u want it to work.
The truth is we all met ourselves somehow. Its inconsequential how. A guy just sees a girl on the street and likes her, and now they are happily married
How is that different from "matchmaking". It just has to do with "liking what u see/profiling".

I use fruity loops 6, ACID Pro and Reason.
I prefer reason cos u can import midi files direct from ur keyboard and do some sh^t that makes ur output sound like live instrumentals. Fruity loops is kinda limited

Nairaland / General / A Must Read by layi(m): 10:34am On Mar 17, 2007
I saw this on Lindas blog and was touched

PLEASE READ THIS!!!
Dear friends, please read this and read it and read it and read it.

He almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe; he looked poor and hungry.

He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold.

He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you. He said, "I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson."

Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough.

Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid. Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk.

The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.

He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, "And think of me." He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan .

After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: "You don't owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you." Under the napkin were four more $100 bills. Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day.

That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, "Everything's going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson."

There is an old saying "What goes around comes around." Today, I sent you this story, pls invite your friends to come read it. Let this light shine.

Now, start that chain where u r. Its really a small world y'know.
