Programming / Help Needed: Mobile Application Development. by lctewand(f): 2:44am On Mar 13, 2012
hi nairalanders
im building a cross platform mobile app using html, css and javascript. (and a lil php)
ive created the client-side of the program using the languages listed above but now im stuck at the server-side as the resources online are quite confusing.i want to make it a native app also using phonegap and appmobi also. (this way it could work both offline and online)

now any body who has done something close to this or has an idea shld pls contribute or just post tips/ advice about what they know cos im depending entirely on online tutorials.
thanks...

p.s i also want to include pdf files in the app and a way they can be downloaded and i have no idea how to do this.
Politics / Re: Prof. Wole Soyinka Describes Ojukwu As His Childhood Friend. by lctewand(f): 12:34am On Mar 03, 2012
Nobel Laurite, Prof. Wole Soyinka also showered praises on the late Ikemba Nnewi whom he described as his childhood friend and urged Nigerians particularly Ndigbo to emulate his leadership qualities.

i still do not understand how this statement has caused an ethnic war here on nairaland.
whats wrong with you people?

Programming / Re: Differences between Software engineering and Computer science. by lctewand(f): 5:44pm On Jan 17, 2012
software engineering and programming are not exactly the same thing, you could be a software engineer and not know how to program well, and you kuld be a programmer and not be a software engineer,
software engineering combines programming and planning and documents and contracts e.t.c
programming- u kuld jst say programming is jst coding, the q-basic and java e.t.c.

computer science has to do with the combination of s/w engineering, programming, database, networking, algorithms e.t.c,
so u could be a computer scientist and not be a programmer or a s/w engineer.
there are more field s to branch to with computer science.

most Nigerian universities don't offer s/w engineering as a separate program
probably cos its part of the computer science curriculum and they like to make their programs 4yrs+ but u could specialize at masters level sha,
if you cant wait till then i suggest you go abroad,

i hoped this helped.

Programming / Re: Female Programmer Here: Please Help (c Language) by lctewand(f): 9:50pm On Dec 09, 2011
@op, im not a professional programmer and i hate c and c++ but i hope this helps.

if this is a class assignment or project, i think your teacher just wants you to combine every thing uve been taught through out the semester (or through out the course). and apply to any topic you wanna choose.
e.g
control structures: make sure it has if, or if else statements
functions: group of statements executed when called from any other part of the program.
recursive functions: a function that calls itself
passing element
etc
blah blah blah,
i think you should think about a program that need to contain all these and use it for your project.
u could even try to combine examples given in class and edit them to make sense if your still clueless, nd i guess creating flowcharts and pseudo codes shldnt be difficult if u know what you wanna do.
i hope this helped alil.

Business / Re: First Bank Wins "Most Innovative Bank In Africa" Award by lctewand(f): 1:36am On Oct 01, 2011
i dont know about them being innovative o bt in my opinion sha i prefer first bank
i use first bank and GTbank and talking from an ordinary customers view i think first bank is better
when i go to Gtbank their customer service pple always act like they re 2 busy 4 me bt in Firstbank even when they re wasting my time they still treat me well.
GTbanks mobile app never works and they keep on sending me notifications to use it.
b4 i got my ATM Card nkor, dat 1 is a long story.
First bank is stress free sha for me and their app works well.
GTbank only has mouth and a lot of unimplemented ideas, at least the services in first bank actually work.
congrats 2 them smiley

Food / Re: What Diet To Be Followed To Gain Weight Quickly? by lctewand(f): 9:31am On Aug 12, 2011
ok i met a doctor when i waznt really feeling fine and i actually asked him about this weight gain issue cos im also naturally skinny.
he actually put me on a diet like they do to those pple that wanna lose weight, sad
lemmy share part of what he told me

1) EXERCISE: but not all type of exercises are mad for skinny people, i was told to do push-ups and muscle gaining exercises BUT NOT EVERY DAY. as a girl like me, i was assured that i wount  gain muscle like professional muscle builders (10k God ) cos of my gender and as long as i dont do it every day bt when u exercise, u tend 2 eat more cos of  your body is being forced to change,
P.S (FOR GIRLS): there re exercises that could actually make you curvier  wink

2) AVOID JUNK FOOD (MADE OF SUGAR): COS  minerals and all the sugar  in the food will just give you a lot of energy and stop you from actually eating and NATURALLY SKINNY PEOPLE will probably burn all the sugar cos they are almost always hyper active,  and they are also unhealthy,

3) A LOT OF FRUITS: like a literally a lot of fruits,  everybody knows the advantages of fruits. and BANANAS make some people gain weight.

4) EAT NORMALLY: don't over feed your self cos u'll just end up getting indigestion but make sure you are filled up when you eat and eat a little more than you usually do. eat 3 times a day or as you normally do but remember to add milk, yogurt and all those potentially fattening food to your diet (PLS NOT TO MUCH)

5) DONT OBSESS: if u keep on looking at a scale u might get disappointed so just be normal.

6) SNACK A LOT: on healthy snacks sha  like nuts and crackers (im not too sure about this). this is for those that work sha and cant eat everytime,

Anyways i hope some of you trying to gain weight would benefit from these but remember you have to do this the healthy way so that you wont have problems when you gain the weight and u cant loose it or so u wont have health problems when you 40,

P.S: i waz also placed on some multivitamins,  (that's all i have now) smiley and its working for me,  i hope it works 4 ya'll.

Software/Programmer Market / Re: Computer Science Project Topic (help Need) by lctewand(f): 8:56am On Jul 29, 2011
@fayimora when u think of something you wanna do, then what happens?? we Nigerian students re taught the same things and are expected to excrete something out of this world for our final year projects,

im also a final year (soon to be)student and honestly im having the same problem,

i honestly wanna do my project on my own bt im not exceptionally good in programming bt im gud in networking and fair in database, bt therez supposed to be programming in my FYP.
the little networking i even know waz learnt during my i.t period,
ive researched and brainstormed bt ive still not been able to find something good enough, what other choice do i have

and btw, @omo_to_dun i think the poster waz jst asking for ideas (project topics) to research on, which i dont think is a bad thing, what i think is bad is asking sm1 to do THE WHOLE THING for u,
smiley
Food / Re: What Diet To Be Followed To Gain Weight Quickly? by lctewand(f): 5:57am On Jul 21, 2011
i saw these on a site,
it might help,

Instead, use the following healthy eating principles:
Meals based on starchy carbohydrates such as wholemeal pasta, brown rice, potatoes or lentils.
Five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
Lean protein from (meat, fish, beans and pulses).
Three portions of calcium a day. One portion can be a glass of milk, a yoghurt or a matchbox-sized piece of cheese.
Cut down on saturated fat found in processed meats, pies, cakes and biscuits.
Cut down on sugary foods and drinks, such as chocolate, cakes and biscuits and sugar-rich soft drinks.
If you’re trying to gain weight, eat foods that are healthy and packed with energy:
Make time for breakfast. Try porridge with chopped fruit or raisins sprinkled on top. Or eggs on toast.
Fruit smoothies or milkshakes make a great snack. You can make them at home and take them to school.
A jacket potato with baked beans or topped with tuna makes a healthy lunch and contains both energy-giving carbohydrate and protein.
Peanut butter on toast is a quick, high-energy snack.
Try yoghurts and milky puddings, such as rice puddings.

Programming / Oracle Vs Sql Server by lctewand(f): 4:05pm On Jul 11, 2011
hey comp gurus, i'm not really a beginner in computing/computers but i'm not exactly a pro,
i just finished my MCITP exams and i want to diversitify(if there's anything like that) from networking to alil bit of database
but this is where the confusion sets in, i dont know which dbms i should learn, (between oracle and microsoft sql obviously).
i tried googling it, but every site/ blog kept on bringing out their advantages and usefulness and blah blah,
i wanna know which 1 is really useful or relevant in the job market, (im still a student and i have no idea yet.) cos both of them are quite similar,

pls i would like to know what evey1 thinks, im not asking which is better cos i know they are both good, i jst need opinions 2 help me decide which 1 2 focus on more and maybe write the certification exam,
