DubaiLandLord: As Toju said, the Americans can move major resources and equipment to your doorstep within a matter of hours, seamless logistics could be supported not only by their strategic bases near you but also by aircraft carriers and other naval assets. so, "far away Afghanistan" isn't far away at all by American standards. the equipment the Americans have over in Afghanistan alone is more the total equipment in the stocks of the Nigerian armed forces, serviceable or not. 6 Likes |

BlackBaron: Since we were talking about Afghanistan, more than10 years after the declaration of the War on terror, and hundreds of billions of $ spent, the Taliban still controls more than 60% of Afghanistan, their territory keeps expanding everyday on account of the recent losses suffered by Afghani troops. America's war on terror has been a colossal failure in Afghanistan. We have been able to roll back BH and contain them, the insurgency in it's closing phase, this phase could that years if not decades as we can't simply kill them all, the ideology has to die first. 2 Likes |

AskiaHarem: The Americans pride themselves of being invisible, having not lost any war. But, they and their NATO allies have lost this one. The British were the first, then the Soviets, now the Americans, Afghanistan prides itself as a country too that has never lost any wars, thus the paradox. Losing to some rags heads, with Ak-47s and dirty sandals, when you have seemingly unlimited resources would always be a shocker to all the "hot-heads" both bureaucrats and politicians in Washington Their misadventure in Afghanistan would teach them something atleast! "keep your damn d*ck, in your pants! It's not always a pissing contest!" 1 Like |

DubaiLandLord: I do so too, but it's not like the FG is spending any money to build the railway to Niger Rep. There is an original plan to build a standard gauge railway from Lagos to Kano, the Abuja - Kaduna, Lagos - Ibadan sections being completed are part of the route. Maradi - Kano railway would be funded by banks from Europe facilitated by the company carrying out the project, Mota Engil. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/443294-german-banks-eu-agencies-to-fund-kano-maradi-railway-ambassador-tuggar.html Also kicking-off this year would be the rehabilitation of the Eastern railway corridor, from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri. The commencement of the Coastal railway has majorly been held off by ferocious local opposition to Chinese equity, Ameachi even complained bitterly about this https://www.globalconstructionreview.com/news/nigeria-has-been-waiting-year-53bn-chinese-loan-ra/ But there are talks of getting the loan from a Western bank instead, https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-10/nigeria-taps-stanchart-to-replace-china-loans-for-rail-projects negotiations could take years and cause delay, politicians are very stupid. 1 Like |

Truthshots23: With a railway to Maradi, you could access Mali, Burkina faso, Chad etc landlocked countries that need access to the Sea, Nigeria could provide refined petroleum products, human capital, steel, consumer goods, Etc. have you thought about this too? 5 Likes 1 Share |

Truthshots23: From what I can deduce from what he said(which I'm sure everybody thinks fairly would agree) Africa and Africans have locked ourselves out for far too long. Barriers that didn't exist 200 years ago exist today because of the scourge of colonization. We trade more with Europe and Southeast Asia than amongst ourselves. Rectifying that oddity would help fasten economic integration, and provide the jobs that our populations desperately need. The Lagos - Kano, Lagos - Calabar, Warri - Kano projects etc are all part of a wider project, the National railway Masterplan, they are only carried out in sections because of the paucity of funds 4 Likes 1 Share |

lebuhsi: Nigeria can very quickly position itself as a beacon in the region and beyond with unfettered access to the "economies of the hinterland" with the building of critical infrastructure such as this. I'm sure you must have heard of the ACFTA agreement, Nigeria can be a source of raw materials, energy, human capital, steel, etc. Since we are talking about jobs here, double-digit growth, economic progress on a scale that has never been seen. There is a scramble for the proverbial piece of the pie in Africa right now, even Saharan countries like Morroco are not left out(They recently tried, and failed to join the ECOWAS) why do you think that is?! Truthshots23: If you don't have a broader scope of how you view the world, comprehension and understanding would always have limitations. Europe is doing well today because of how sophisticated infrastructure is, you can work in Germany and live in the Netherlands for instance. Buhari is not our problem, ethnic fundamentalism is. 5 Likes 1 Share |

ugo4u: Exactly, all this CBN defending the Naira is just funding the importation of inflation. All the currency to float then peg it when you have an alignment with the unofficial rate, we are spending whopping amounts of Forex to keep the Naira at artificial rates to the dollar, inflation has been largely unbothered by that. Dangote's refinery would save Nigeria about $3bn of importation cost singlehandedly, Nigerians would be like " hang on a minute, that's free $3bn to spend of needless importation and hoarding for Forex speculation" Until we make currency speculation unpalatable, we would always continue to have forex problems 1 Like |

Sizzorkay: The rate of youth with skilled labour has been dwindling at alarming rates no thanks to the prevalence of fraud and sundry. Substance abuse has risen dramatically due to the "disposable income" available, up until last year I bin never see crack and molly with my eye before, na normal weed boys bin de on. For my yard now na like normal thing now, with an average spend per individual at ₦5k a day. It has opened a new industry of sorts, even drug dealers now the chop. Fighting for territory by local gangs would soon be the new security "frontier" in Urban Nigeria, they just too much ill-gotten money on the streets, it wouldn't be too long before "boys" have ideas. Nigeria used to be a transit country for Narcos, that story is quickly changing. All those so-called "Nigerian Mafia" men for Italy go soon start to come back. What's even worse is that there's really no appetite amongst the youthful population to learn a skill, dem go rather go de for "HK" when you see your 23-year-old friend de drive $50k machine oppression no go kee you? 2 Likes |

While I would admit that there certainly are double standards in terms of Twitter's approach to Nigeria, which I believe stems from the lack of understanding of the complexities of the socio-political environment in a lot of places. I mean why have a U.K, US bureau then have a single bureau for The middle east and Africa?! Those are how many countries fit in a single band again? Facebook's approach is a lot different(because they have the financial muscle to do so?) They work with top tier think tanks and work with countries on an individual basis. That's why I believe their approach to the endsars protest was a lot different than Twitter's(deliberate attempts to spot and flag fake and inaccurate post and fact-checking) A lot of their decisions I believe comes from a lot of ignorance and perhaps arrogance? They have a generalized(radical?) View to how the world works, black & white Twitter is filled with fake and inciting tweets, from secessionists to ethnic Nationalists etc. A lot of violence this country has seen in the past 12 months undoubtedly generated from Twitter, mostly spurred by fake news, they must agree that they too have a lot of work to do in that regards a country as complex as Nigeria should have had a bureau like yesterday. Just to add, the ban of Twitter is most likely to cause devastating effects on OSINT and data mining, the intelligence community would suffer for this. Very few people used a VPN before now, the people that knew about it felt lazy to use it, that would not be the case now. 10 Likes |
