It’s fine if it’s Gusau. Most NGOs have gotten funding towards that axis. My organization self wanna deploy me there, but I heard no be happening town (If you know what I mean grin )

When renting a house in Gusau Abeg look for where NGO or bankers stay. Please never stay close to the entry points. I once saw a cheap house in Maiduguri entrance from Damboa, I didn’t stay up to 5months after a Boko attack. I coughed out better money go stay Old GRA.

I’m still considering relocating there shaa as I’m in a deep field location and not Maiduguri.

Well go check that side if the coast clear and there are good babes and alcohol I might ditch my deep field. Tho it will cost me more as I’ll miss my Shuwa Arab babe here embarassed

Shuwa Arab babe, Big man thing.

No wonder you no de reason relocation, something must kee a man

Everybody that have read about the US military sabi all these things una dey talk.

Make una just stop comparing US war in Afghanistan to that of Nigeria war in the North East. We can't take on the Taliban's like the Americans did.

The Taliban is not a terrorist organization like ISWAP, they were the ones that defeated the Warlords and united Afghanistan. They were the legitimate Government before the Americans kicked their ass and the Pakistanis are still supporting them as you dey read wetin I dey type. grin

Baba, wetin you de even argue sef?

NA v BH, American forces v the Taliban.

What good is it when you win a battle and lose the war? The Americans have practically admitted defeat by redrawing their troops

Can the Nigerian military fight in a far distance country like the US military is doing? Nigeria have been struggling at her backyard for years, you're here using the war the Americans are fighting in far away Afghanistan to console yourself grin

Abeg make una stop this comparison jawe grin

Is just like comparing Milo to peak milk grin

The Taliban were in control of Afghanistan before the Americans came in.

As Toju said, the Americans can move major resources and equipment to your doorstep within a matter of hours, seamless logistics could be supported not only by their strategic bases near you but also by aircraft carriers and other naval assets.

so, "far away Afghanistan" isn't far away at all by American standards.

the equipment the Americans have over in Afghanistan alone is more the total equipment in the stocks of the Nigerian armed forces, serviceable or not.

We are talking home turf.

How many of these groups are attacking FOB, Police stations and so.

Organised crime exists in most countries, some worse than others but we've not heard overrunning outpost or police stations without swift responses.

Gangs and so, surely aren't going to be poking a bear in the face cos they know what happens next. Let's not start polishing our failures to deal BH a bloody nose as a phyric victory cos Uncle Sam or others failed to defeat hostile forces in a different country.

Write something better, still a foreign territory.
They also failed in Vietnam. Show me a brigade, company sized group effectively a mini state inside the countries controlling swathes of space like the terrorist groups here.

Since we were talking about Afghanistan, more than10 years after the declaration of the War on terror, and hundreds of billions of $ spent, the Taliban still controls more than 60% of Afghanistan, their territory keeps expanding everyday on account of the recent losses suffered by Afghani troops.

America's war on terror has been a colossal failure in Afghanistan.

We have been able to roll back BH and contain them, the insurgency in it's closing phase, this phase could that years if not decades as we can't simply kill them all, the ideology has to die first.

The Americans pride themselves of being invisible, having not lost any war.

But, they and their NATO allies have lost this one.

The British were the first, then the Soviets, now the Americans, Afghanistan prides itself as a country too that has never lost any wars, thus the paradox.

Losing to some rags heads, with Ak-47s and dirty sandals, when you have seemingly unlimited resources would always be a shocker to all the "hot-heads" both bureaucrats and politicians in Washington

Their misadventure in Afghanistan would teach them something atleast!

Ah, this same tired analogy all over again. Troops operating in a foreign country with limited knowledge of local norms and customs versus local army fighting in his territory. Didn't Buratai once declare Sambisa was cleared.

Tell us how many terrorist groups are operating in those countries controlling large expanse of land, killing and testing army bases every fortnight.

Logic escapes some of you here.

$1trn down the shitter, and over ten years fighting the Taliban without success tells a different story

It's not irrational it is not entirely implausible.

Because this government is thrives on blatant impunity and bare faced lies.

Add to that the most important unit of measurement for capacity and competence is perceived loyalty to the regime. Which in itself is anchored on tribalism, nepotism and religious affiliation.

Finally, the President is the commander in chief and executive head of the nation. It's his responsibility to ensure compliance, he had oversight.

Essentially the BUCK STOPS WITH PMB there is no excuse or evasion.

I don't think this is correct. Probably just an estimate. Our daily consumption is 52million upward, I even saw a report a while ago saying it has gotten to 95million litres per day.

This is from the DPR brother, although I'd have to admit, the data is from 2016

I found something more recent

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2020/02/nigeria-consumes-38-2m-litres-of-petrol-daily-dpr/amp/

Still roughly the same.

The main advantage of local production is job creation and reasonable rate of inflation, local production doesn't necessarily reduce price but stabilises inflation rate.

For instance, compare the percentage change in the price of cement from 2003 till 2021 Vs %change in the price of Rice during the same timeframe, you'll see a very huge gap.

If we have been refining PMS since 2003, I'm sure the price of PMS will not even be close to 100naira per litre today.

Dangote refinery isn't going to end importation tho as it cannot meet total demand. But if we can secure the borders and end smuggling, it will be able to meet total demand.

It can and will meet local demand atleast X2 over, Nigeria's consumption of energy a day(including smuggling) is 428,000 barrels per day (B/d), with PMS consumption of 38,200,000ltrs

https://www.dpr.gov.ng/national-fuel-situation-status-report/

Dangote's refinery is a 650,000b/d refinery, 53% of refining would be dedicated to PMS

That is 7.51billion litres a year, do the maths

I believe all the states in Nigeria should be connected first before we start connecting other countries.

Or will Niger be funding the railway lines in their country themselves?

I do so too, but it's not like the FG is spending any money to build the railway to Niger Rep.

There is an original plan to build a standard gauge railway from Lagos to Kano, the Abuja - Kaduna, Lagos - Ibadan sections being completed are part of the route.

Maradi - Kano railway would be funded by banks from Europe facilitated by the company carrying out the project, Mota Engil.

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/443294-german-banks-eu-agencies-to-fund-kano-maradi-railway-ambassador-tuggar.html

Also kicking-off this year would be the rehabilitation of the Eastern railway corridor, from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

The commencement of the Coastal railway has majorly been held off by ferocious local opposition to Chinese equity, Ameachi even complained bitterly about this

https://www.globalconstructionreview.com/news/nigeria-has-been-waiting-year-53bn-chinese-loan-ra/

But there are talks of getting the loan from a Western bank instead, https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-10/nigeria-taps-stanchart-to-replace-china-loans-for-rail-projects

negotiations could take years and cause delay, politicians are very stupid.

Nigerian ports will serve as port of choice for some of these countries too because of reduced logistics cost due to the rail an improved speed of delivery rather than the Ports of Benin and Cameroon they currently use.

We have a unique opportunity of leapfrogging regional competitors, any reasonable person would see how Lagos - Maradi project should be prioritised.

Many cities within nigeria are more economically relevant than niger republic, yet these cities are not well connected by train and we have to go and get trains to niger republic ?
Look, your man buhari has just confesses he did this because of his tribalism. What is there to debate ?

With a railway to Maradi, you could access Mali, Burkina faso, Chad etc landlocked countries that need access to the Sea, Nigeria could provide refined petroleum products, human capital, steel, consumer goods, Etc. have you thought about this too?

From what I can deduce from what he said(which I'm sure everybody thinks fairly would agree) Africa and Africans have locked ourselves out for far too long.

Barriers that didn't exist 200 years ago exist today because of the scourge of colonization.

We trade more with Europe and Southeast Asia than amongst ourselves.

Rectifying that oddity would help fasten economic integration, and provide the jobs that our populations desperately need.

The Lagos - Kano, Lagos - Calabar, Warri - Kano projects etc are all part of a wider project, the National railway Masterplan, they are only carried out in sections because of the paucity of funds

Nigeria can very quickly position itself as a beacon in the region and beyond with unfettered access to the "economies of the hinterland" with the building of critical infrastructure such as this.

I'm sure you must have heard of the ACFTA agreement, Nigeria can be a source of raw materials, energy, human capital, steel, etc. Since we are talking about jobs here, double-digit growth, economic progress on a scale that has never been seen.

There is a scramble for the proverbial piece of the pie in Africa right now, even Saharan countries like Morroco are not left out(They recently tried, and failed to join the ECOWAS) why do you think that is?! Access to the free market!

Dangote will be buying Nigerian crude in naira, that's the deal proposed with the NNPC. Don't be surprised when his refinery becomes fully operational nothing much will change FOREx wise and even the price of PMS.

Exactly, all this CBN defending the Naira is just funding the importation of inflation.

All the currency to float then peg it when you have an alignment with the unofficial rate, we are spending whopping amounts of Forex to keep the Naira at artificial rates to the dollar, inflation has been largely unbothered by that.

Dangote's refinery would save Nigeria about $3bn of importation cost singlehandedly, Nigerians would be like

" hang on a minute, that's free $3bn to spend of needless importation and hoarding for Forex speculation"

Until we make currency speculation unpalatable, we would always continue to have forex problems

Every so called developed countries out there are mostly in debt, if not all.
increasing tax revenue is also important, otherwise we won't be able to fund anything. and we gotta increase our debt, most countries do it. right now our debt is too low. we gotta borrow more and put that money into good use.
Tiny Israel is over 200 billion dollars in debt, USA is over 14 trillion in debt. even Saudi Arabia.
We gotta give out long term loans at low interest rates to our companies, so they can expand and hire more people, upgrade how we do things, establish trade schools across the country so our youths can get modern skills acquisitions, rather than hiring construction workers from china.
These things aren't rocket science. its sad how we lag so far behind

The rate of youth with skilled labour has been dwindling at alarming rates no thanks to the prevalence of fraud and sundry.

Substance abuse has risen dramatically due to the "disposable income" available, up until last year I bin never see crack and molly with my eye before, na normal weed boys bin de on.

Nigeria used to be a transit country for Narcos, that story is quickly changing.

All those so-called "Nigerian Mafia" men for Italy go soon start to come back.

Politics / Re: Nigerian Naira Vs GHANAIAN CEDI Strength by lebuhsi(m): 3:46pm On Jun 09, 2021
seunmsg:

In simple terms, we don’t earn enough foreign exchange to keep the Naira strong. We don’t produce anything that other countries require other than crude oil. The little forex we earn from crude oil, we spend almost everything to import refined petroleum products and sell in Naira at subsidized rates.

Political elites and even the citizens are not helping matters. Our elites steal money and horde them in foreign currencies. Citizens also gave a very high taste for anything foreign. So, we keep using our little forex to meet all these demands.

There is, however, a green light at the end of the tunnel with Dangote refinery. Once it comes on board fully next year, we should be able to significantly reduce our importation bills. With other government policies in the Agric sector, mining etc, the Naira May start getting stronger by end of next year other things being equal. I’m just being optimistic.

A whooping $3bn per anuum, that would be significant you have failed to add the fertiliser plant too(also Crude oil would be bought in Naira)

While I would admit that there certainly are double standards in terms of Twitter's approach to Nigeria, which I believe stems from the lack of understanding of the complexities of the socio-political environment in a lot of places. I mean why have a U.K, US bureau then have a single bureau for The middle east and Africa?!

Those are how many countries fit in a single band again?

Facebook's approach is a lot different(because they have the financial muscle to do so?) They work with top tier think tanks and work with countries on an individual basis.

That's why I believe their approach to the endsars protest was a lot different than Twitter's(deliberate attempts to spot and flag fake and inaccurate post and fact-checking)

A lot of their decisions I believe comes from a lot of ignorance and perhaps arrogance? They have a generalized(radical?) View to how the world works, black & white

Twitter is filled with fake and inciting tweets, from secessionists to ethnic Nationalists etc.

A lot of violence this country has seen in the past 12 months undoubtedly generated from Twitter, mostly spurred by fake news, they must agree that they too have a lot of work to do in that regards a country as complex as Nigeria should have had a bureau like yesterday.

Just to add, the ban of Twitter is most likely to cause devastating effects on OSINT and data mining, the intelligence community would suffer for this.

Very few people used a VPN before now, the people that knew about it felt lazy to use it, that would not be the case now.
