We've all discussed the quality of NA recruits recently and I came across something on Twitter that made me do a bit more research on it.
The bulk of NA's fighting force are usually from either depot recruitment or ex boys from NMS. The depot recruitment course is a crash course of about 6 months while the NMS is basically a secondary school that uses four days of the week for academic studies and a day for military training for 6 years(military training will definitely be continuous and everyday in one way or another) throughout the week. It is only normal to expect soldiers from NMS to be far better than those that passed through the depot training.
Now, knowing that the 7 division is new and isn't even up to full strength yet, the bulk of their force are those trained in depot within six months. I don't know Sha but I think this is the reason for the poor quality. If NA can work on the training at the depot, things might change.

The 6 months they spend in Jaji is basic, once you are being deployed to any unit, you have to attend and finish courses specific to your unit to get promoted.

The courses run from a duration of 3 - 6 months the higher you go the more sophisticated the courses become, this continues until you retire.

I believe the problem with the NA is lack of trust between Officers and NCOs

I've been with people that have served in Borno state and come back, you wouldn't believe how much they distrust rednecks, they just think that they are cannon fodder and dispensable, that really doesn't help morale at all.

It's really funny because just this morning, I was talking to someone about how foreign interest(The US and France) choose political stability over democracy, especially in Francophone countries, and how democratisation Should be a long term process as opposed to a short term one especially in countries with histories of autocracy.

Deby's son, Zakaria certain doesn't have the support his father had, and Militias and Jihadis would be certain to exploit this vacuum, we have a Libya situation on our hands guys.

Sincerely I feel it’s unfair. In fact, if possible they should be switching Soldiers here on rotation between Northern and Southern Borno.

Many Soldiers in my location have never witnessed an attack since January 2018 till date.

While in Northern Borno I don’t think any Soldier has stayed up to six months without exchanging gunfire with ISWAP.

My GOC is enjoying his Aircondition in office and room , while a GOC in Marte/Dikwa or Ngala is sweating it out.

In your 24 monthly tours, you go to the deep field for 1 year, then spend the remaining one year in S.Borno.

I can personally confirm this, the only time you spend more than two years in Borno is when your unit is there (a lot of people try to switch to another unit, but you can imagine how difficult the chances would be to succeed).

Once you do two years, you get changed and return to your unit, until it's your turn again.

Terrorism Financing: Dozens Arrested In Nationwide Crackdown

Dozens of persons have been arrested by security agents in an ongoing nationwide crackdown on suspected financiers and collaborators of Boko Haram and other criminal groups in Nigeria, Daily Trust reports.

This is coming five months after Daily Trust exclusively reported the jailing of six Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates over allegations of terrorism financing.


The ongoing inter-agency operation is being led by a top intelligence officer, with an army general leading a task team comprising military personnel and staff from intelligence services.

Multiple sources informed Daily Trust that the closely guarded operation is being coordinated by Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

As part of the operation, billions of naira traced to businesses belonging to persons of interest have been blocked in banks in series of “post no debit” letters sent out to banks by the CBN and NFIU. The apex bank has also lately obtained court orders directing freezing of dozens of accounts flagged for suspicious transactions.

While officials expressed hope that the ongoing operation would be a “game-changer” in the lingering fight against Boko Haram insurgents and other criminal gangs, some analysts say the method may not provide the needed elixir as terrorists and bandits operate largely outside the financial system.

A security source familiar with the operation confided in our reporter that the operation started last year with massive gathering and analysis of financial intelligence and drawing uplink analysis, leading to the initial marking of some 60 businesses and individuals.

A source disclosed to Daily Trust that an initial list of 957 suspects comprising bureau de change operators, gold miners and sellers, and other businessmen are being acted upon.

Already, according to the source, about 400 persons have been arrested in series of arrests in Kano, Borno, Abuja, Lagos, Sokoto, Adamawa, Kaduna and Zamfara.

In Kano, a major focus for the operation, traders at the foreign exchange open market in Wapa, Fagge Local Government, were picked up on March 9, 15th and 16th.

Second ex-Italian FREMM frigate delivered to Egypt


The Egyptian Navy's newest FREMM frigate ENS Bernees.
The Egyptian Navy has received the second FREMM frigate, ENS Bernees, from Italy. The vessel arrived in Alexandria on 14 April.

ENS Bernees was formerly the Emilio Bianchi before being acquired by the Egyptian Navy. The first vessel, ENS Al Galala (ex Spartaco Schergat), arrived in Alexandria on 31 December.

The Egyptian Ministry of Defence said the ENS Bernees’s reception ceremony was attended by a number of former Egyptian Navy leaders, the Italian Military Attachment in Cairo, and a number of students of military colleges and Alexandria University.
The Ministry added that the vessel will help Egypt secure its borders, support and protect land forces along the coast during offensive and defensive operations, and secure natural resources in the Mediterranean and Red Seas.

It was reported in early 2020 that Egypt was interested in buying two FREMM frigates from Italy, drawn from the Italian Navy’s procurement programme – the vessels Spartaco Schergat and Emilio Bianchi, launched in January 2019 and January 2020, respectively – enabling Fincantieri to sell the vessels for an estimated cost of €1.2 billion.

Naval News reports that the Italian government authorised the sale in August last year. The deal was apparently jeopardised by concerns over Egypt’s human rights record, especially after Italian student Giulio Regeni was tortured and murdered in Cairo in 2016.

The frigate sale is apparently part of a larger deal that includes four more frigates, 20 Falaj class corvettes, 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters, 24 M346 jet trainers, and a surveillance satellite, but it is not clear how far along these deals are to being signed. Leonardo has already received an 871 million euro contract to supply 24 AW149 and eight AW189 helicopters to Egypt’s military, some of which will be used aboard navy ships.

The Italian L’Espresso weekly news magazine reported on 28 March that Fincantieri had submitted a request to export two more FREMMs to Egypt, which it said was evidence that Cairo wants to exercise an option in its contract for additional vessels. L’Espresso reported that these would be delivered in 2025, further delaying the delivery of the replacements for the Italian Navy.

Egypt’s interest in the FREMM frigates – as well as its decision in 2019 to procure up to six warships from Germany, at least three of which are Meko frigates – came as Cairo’s relationship with France cooled and military procurement shifted towards other European suppliers. However, Egypt is believed to once again be interested in acquiring further military hardware from France, including Rafale fighters

Al Galala (FFG 1002) is in ‘general purpose’ configuration and armed with a Leonardo 127/64 mm LightWeight (LW) mm gun, a 76/62 mm Super Rapido gun and two 25 mm guns as well as the MBDA SAAM-ESD (Surface Anti-Air Missile – Extended Self-Defence) Air Defence Missile system able to launch the Aster family of surface-to-air missiles. Some sensitive equipment particular to the Italian Navy, including electronic warfare systems, have apparently been removed.

The Italian Navy’s Carlo Bergamini-class FREMM frigates have a full load displacement of about 6 500 tons, an overall length of about 144 meters and can reach a top speed of 27 knots with a maximum cruising range of 6 800 nautical miles at 15 knots.
