Politics › Re: Should Crude Be Sold To Nigerian Market Same As International... by lebuhsi(m): 8:43am On Nov 11, 2024 |
Fortune109: Want to learn!
I understand that Nigeria consumes about 50 Million litres of Petrol daily... Why can't the equivalent of this 50 million litres in Crude be sold to Dangote far less than the international Price so as to bring down the price of fuel in the country to relief citizens??
You are not paying money in subsidy with this...just sell the equivalent of what we consume cheap to him...
I want to believe the government have their reasons for not doing this... But what are the reasons??
To protect the marketers??
Smuggling??
To maintain the flow of money to politicians pockets??
What are the reasons with greater consequences than the country been in total RUIN if things continue??
I sincerely want to learn please! Services in the oil sector is priced in dollars which includes purchase of spare parts, the hiring of expatriates, logistics, and drilling. You also have the cost of production which is one of the highest in the world. https://punchng.com/nigerias-48-per-barrel-oil-production-cost-global-highest-faleke/?ampAlso, IOCs have a major share in the upstream sector (75% as of 2021) https://www.woodmac.com/news/opinion/why-investors-may-have-nigerian-upstream-assets-in-their-sights/So you would not expect them despite the high operation cost to sell their crude oil to the local market at a discount when they have forward sales contracts with their suppliers NNPC(L?) has tied a vast chunk of local production to forward loans https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/crude-for-loans-nnpcl-votes-8million-barrels-monthly-for-8-8bn-debt-report/%3famp So a vast chunk of local production goes to repaying those loans. So you can see it's very impractical to do this because one way or the other, someone is going to foot the bills. |

Again ethnic majorities are at each other's throats, looking for versions of a restructuring that would favour their narrow minded ethnic interests. Always look out for yourself this is a primordial reaction, but it should not be at the detriment of others. This draft bill is ethno centric in orientation and I seriously doubt it would see the light of day, at least not in this iteration. other interests would ferociously fight this bill. Ethno nationalists should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of clamouring for resource control they rather go after their timid ethnic interests. such a waste of power. |

If the really wanted to wipe people out in a war, they would have gone for chemical weapons
Ask yourself, why are they really really fighting
Resources which are infinite? Power and control which they won't take to the grave? Lands that their generation might eventually end up losing once again??
So what's the purpose?
EXACTLY. NONE!!
Just bunch of short slighted people but less short sighted than the people following them.
Pathetic set of people I tell you.
Of all the things to focus on, you focus on deliberating which lives to end and which to live.
Don't worry....you'll be at the receiving end soon. I pray you don't have sense by then so your karma will meet you in full fold look at the history of man. it's all been wars. Conflict is an integral aspect of man's existence you have no authority to people what to do. War is NOT good. But this is the reality. Hell! we live in a country where conflict is normalised. It's natural to want to understand the cause of conflict only then would solutions for peace emerge. Now, you can go on with your preaching in OTHER THREAD that you CREATED I'm sure you'll find like-minded people there. |

I'm assuming most of you here are below 12 years of age. Damn...even 5 year old don't stoop so low
You're discussing about how the end lives...you're even choosing the side you think should win.
Lolzzzzz.... Pathetic set of Humans
If you are not working towards a solution to end the war, then there's no damn need to be analysing how humans lives should end or which side you believe is right
All sides are wrong. They're killing lives which they cannot create and you all are jubilating like something is fundamentally wrong with you
Focus on helping end the war. If you cannot, then leave this group. It will corrupt you as a human.
Human lives are precious. It could be you and your family and loved ones tomorrow that might be running away from a disastrous war. Think!! Lunacy! NL is a very diverse environment. Create your own thread and talk about peace. This is war. war has always been with man. war shaped the politics, culture and the global economy. Understanding the cause of conflict and discussing it is not a crime. Go and create a thread where your fellow pacifist loonies can sing Kumbaya. |

post war Nigeria saw Ibos lose political power and their areas of influence and left them effectively landlocked. While the Yorubas, Hausas and Fulanis dominated. ethnic minorities clamored and earned their political independence. Ibos have shown remarkable resilience and resolve and each generation after the war has developed a form of resistance to Nigerian rule.

on a serious note. As someone for Non-major tribe, it's always interesting to see how all of you from the "major" tribes hate each other. deeply rooted is the desire for any of you to dominate which you think is your God given right to do so. anyone who has failed to do this would feel agitated, naturally. reading through this thread just make me think about Nargano-karabakh and the potential for "contested" territories to cause conflict among ethnic nationalities. people of minor tribes have been brainwashed into believing "one-Nigeria" exists, when all it's been about from inception is you guys trying to dominate each other. whether Nigeria exists in the form or not in the future. This conflict would persist. Because you will remain in those territories and would certainly cause anarchy and mayhem for everyone else. |

ninety5: First off, please disregard any previous post I had made, I am not married, just wanted to know how people just sit and compose a lie without a single remorse, you could sense the sacarsm in my voice. Regret it though, I can't delete the posts.
Why I am here, and please pardon the word "oddball" if you are like me and it strikes you differently.
I just clocked 30, been told I am different for most of my adulthood, but don't see it that way, I just think I don't always follow the masses some of the time, at the end of the day, we are all different to some levels.
Some of these supposed differences are, 1. I am an apatheist, don't give the slightest fork about religion, but I do respect everyone's religion, and will have a meaningful convo with you if you are willing. This has a lot of effects on me as a person, don't trouble no one and would take no trouble from anyone, a reason I don't want to have children, just me and my partner. Still choose not to end up with a religious person though, I might be sure not to cause a religious war, I don't know about her. Not like a real religiou war, like atheists vs christians or musilims vs ifa worshippers, I mean family religious war. 2. I am a die-hard introvert, a bigger reason people like me can't find a compatible partner, I might be wrong anyway. Wouldn't say shiit in public. Believe that every relationship should be meticulously gone into, no matter the type. 3. I try my forking best to make sense of almost everything, so I tend to daydream a lot and do what makes me happy.
With stuff like these, I don't always get to meet people like me, how do you do it? so basically you're telling the world you're a sigma male ai? |

chrisooblog: Exactly we need to make our economy a productive one so you can earn earn enough FX simple.
In the spirit of learning and debate what do you think we can do to fund infrastructural projects without having to borrow? The PPP model is the most viable, only that investor confidence is lacking. Lekki deep seaport was built on a PPP model, The Badagry deep seaport would be built on a PPP model. Now if we can translate that into roads, bridges, sgr, etc it could be a tremendous success for all parties, as those projects would be run on a BOT basis. It's about strengthening investor confidence as the market is very attractive. Look at how the NNPC unlocked $50bn worth of investment in the energy sector just because the PIA was passed for instance https://www.oedigital.com/news/498709-nigeria-s-nnpc-renews-oil-contracts-to-produce-10-bln-barrelsit's about reducing legislative ambiguity, so investors don't feel threatened when there is a change in government thereby removing political uncertainty which has been one of the major reasons for low FDI |

GeneralDae2: I don't think it was primarily about election. I think the main concern was inflation. If they had improved electricity to reduce business operation costs, then there wouldn't have been so much worrying about possible inflation spiral from the subsidy removal. I don't even think Subsidy removal would affect inflation much, Nigerians are buying Gas +VAT today nobody is jumping up and down, and tankers and businesses are buying diesel at >₦800/ltr today, nobody is jumping up and down, airlines are buying aviation fuel at ₦900/ltr today, they made small noise Nigerians change am for them they kept quiet CNG has already been de-regularised + VAT sef, so FDI and LDI won't not be a problem It's those over pampered socialists labour unions that have been a clog in the wheel of progress in this country Now they want power through Peter Obi waxing lyrical about capitalism I just pity his naive supporters |

But wait o. I thought Buhari and Tinubu said subsidy was a lie when campaigning against Jonathan. You see why this people can never run this country well. They wanted to win elections nau , subsidies have to go CNG is taking over, and PMS demand will reduce anyways. The government is actively promoting adoption |

We should stop arguing this very clearly nauseating thing. The government has failed massively in that area. I agree that they have failed in increasing revenue, but that's not because of a lack of money. Removing subsidies for instance(low hanging fruit) would add $6bn to the government coffers Nigeria loses 500,000bpd of crude to oil vandals with Nigerian grades selling $5 above Brent, that's close to $100pb. |

Someone just mentioned that Nigeria needs to spend $150bn yearly to bridge our infrastructure deficit Buhari borrowed $30bn of that (which isn't even enough) how is that unbridled?
Nigerian govt has a share in the Lekki port by virtue of the land it's located on. No matter how you want to look at it the active support and partnership of the government made it happen. If it was that easy and straight forward then OBJ, Yar Adua and GEJ would have done when they were making more money and had less debt. A significant amount of debt incurred by Buhari's administration is Naira denominated SUKUK I-V, FGN bonds, executive order 007 etc |

jedisco: The CBN using the naira to chase the dollar would only compound the issue in the longterm if nothing is done in real terms to prop up the economy. Also, the extra naira being used to prop up the interest rates would need to come from somewhere. If that extra naira is printed just for that purpose, then it may make things worse in the future. Nigeria's macro economic situation is like between the devil and the deep blue sea. Not only do we have an inflation problem, we also suffer slow GPD growth. so CBN raising interest rates would help to slow down inflation, but it would further worsen the growth problem. The CBN and the FG are the major cause of inflation. The CBN when the were printing Nairas and throwing them around to stimulate growth after the lockdown And FG when the protectionist government closed the borders resulting in worsening food inflation which before the border closure was in a downward trend. now MPC members are stuck with the same fundamentals after the end of ever meeting because they are scared of the repercussions of raising figures |

Acidosis: Anything can happen. Dollar is #1 because of oil deal.
The developed world will eventually dump oil. Most of these countries plan to dump combustion vehicles before 2030. Countries like the UK and the Netherlands will be placing a ban on combustion vehicles by 2030 to create room for the likes of Tesla.
Mind you, the U.S. has already lost its competitive edge on green energy to China. With more than 40% of electric vehicles, solar energy, and inverter engines in the world coming from China, the power of the U.S. dollar is only going to last a few years.
If green energy won't terminate the U.S. currency hegemony, Bitcoin would. Nobody is dumping oil anytime soon, what would power all those Telsa vehicles that hit the market if there's a surge in demand? Saliva? LNG is the cheapest source of energy in the world and is also a transition fuel. So called green energy sources are no where near efficient and dependable to replace fossil fuels. |

There are many Igbo bearing names on the Cross River side of the river. You'll notice the OP stated that other Isobo communities are found in both Yakkur and Abi LGAs. These LGAS are on the stretch of that river. May Chukwu Okike Abiama bless Isobo clan and Ndigbo in general. These are border communities with the people well assimilated over the course of time, you cannot call peoples identities for them. CRS is one of the most ethnically diverse states in Nigeria so Ibos would be ethnic minorities in the state.
