Two oral traditions exist to explain this.

1. Some conflict between Ndoki communities and Bonny led to the phrase “anyi na-ado ke?” (What are we fighting for?). Some Ndoki people (who are typically anti-Ijaw) have been pushing this tradition as of late.

2. During the reverse migration, Ijaw from Bonny/Opobo came looking for communities that they identified with as “minabo” (sibling). The phrase developed “a mina dokiari” (I am looking for my sibling). The name “Ndoki” is supposedly derived from here.

Between these two, I’m more inclined to believe the second one. There is a lot of cultural, historical and linguistic basis for this. Between Bonny’s long history with Umuagbayi, Azuogu, etc. (Bonny’s founding ancestor being literal kin with Umuagbayi’s founding ancestors), Umueze’s migration into the area alongside Ijaw, along with the fact that some of Umueze’s early ancestors had Ijaw names, the “a mina dokiari” tradition makes sense to me since all of this compounds into a strong sense of kinship between Bonny and Ndoki communities (which is well-acknowledged).

Even if the town falls, there is nothing of strategic significance they will get from the victory other than weapons. They won't be able to hold the town. If only the military can completely recapture all the territories under ISWAP and hold them in this manner, then the war would be almost won. They will lose major sources of revenue(taxation) used in financing their insurgency when they lose those territories and their capability will gradually reduce till it becomes non-threatening. The only weak point in this strategy is leaving the settlements outside of garrisoned towns unprotected and exposed to raids from the terrorists. Another strategy can be developed to counter that (probably fighting patrols).

I believe the recruits being trained in figure forests will be used to garrison settlements that will be captured incoming offensives.

UPDATE: Troops overpower terrorists in Damasak, seize five gun trucks
(Update from Damasak boys)

Boko Haram terrorists have suffered further damage after a failed attack on Damasak, local government headquarters of Mobbar this evening.

Troops of the Nigerian Army captured five of their gun trucks, foiling their attempt to overrun a military base and a humanitarian coordination hub.

A security source, under absolute anonymity, told YERWA EXPRESS NEWS following our report earlier that the terrorists came in groups targeting the two places.

'The first group targeted the military while the other headed towards the humanitarian warehouse as well as shops, probably to cart away food items.

'But we were able to neutralize and injured several of them,' the source said.

The source further noted that military jets boosted the ground troops in their attacks against the terrorists.



The latter hid under dense neem trees to obstruct aerial surveillance and attacks, but seemed to have suffered heavily nonetheless from the ground personnel.

'It wasn't good enough, we were able to destroy five of their gun trucks and the situation of the town is under control at a moment,' the source said.

Our source further noted that the terrorists set ablaze several buildings in the town, as the only casualty so far reported.

I've seen the video of ISWAP shooting down the aircraft with an AA, from what looks like a lucky hit. It exploded mid air, Prolly they scored a direct hit at the jets payload.
