dont8: The kinsfolk of embattled Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, have said they are surprised at the groundswell of public opinion running against their most prominent daughter.

The people of Akili-Ozizor in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anamba State told Saturday PUNCH that as far as they were concerned, the minister is the best thing that has happened to them.

They said she has not only regularly empowered young people and widows, the minister has built schools and churches for them. They listed some of the projects she has done for the community to include the building of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, the rehabilitation of the Josephine Oduah Secondary School and the provision of a borehole.

One of the chiefs, Boniface Osakwe, who is the Onya of Akili-Ozizor, told Saturday PUNCH that Oduah’s philanthropy extends beyond the community to the entire Ogbaru l Local Government Area, spanning all the towns located along the lower bank of the River Niger in Anambra State.

Osakwe wondered why she was being persecuted in an office that she will leave one day.

“Is it because she is a woman? Other people had been in that office. She will leave one day and another person will occupy it,” Osakwe wondered.

The President General of Akili-Ozizor Town Union, Mr. Chukwudi Igwe, simply said Oduah “is a very good woman.”

He would not be dragged into commenting on the raging car scandal circulating about the minister. “I don’t know about that. All I know is that she has been helping our people,” he added.

One young man from the community, Mr. Chidozie Ogbaekwe, said he was surprised about the car scandal. “If they bought the cars for her, she will use them now. Any problem with that?” he asked.

Ogbaekwe who said many indigent members of the community have benefited from scholarships from Oduah, however pointed out that the woman was yet to fulfil the promise she made to him about buying him a motorcycle.

“I am hoping that when she comes in December, she will give me my own motorcycle,” he said.

Oduah’s image looms large over the small and rustic community located on the bank of the River Niger. From Uga Junction, 30km away from Onitsha, where commercial motorcycles ferry people to Akili-Ozizor and other towns in Ogbaru, all the visitors need to tell the cyclists is take me to Stella’s House.

Her father, John Oduah, was the traditional ruler of the community. Her mother was the Omu, a title and office Stella has since inherited.

The only asphalt road veering off the main road in the community leads to her expansive estate, which she shares with the workers of her contracting company.

She is currently erecting a huge country home on about two hectares of land, not far from her older estate.

Last year, her entire home was submerged in the flood disaster that ravaged all the riverine communities in Anambra State.

Manchidede: WARRI- THE Niger Delta for Peace, Credible and Visionary Leadership, NDPCVL, rose in robust defence of embattled Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, saying, she should be left alone.

NDPCVL in a press statement by its national president, Mr. King-jerry Prebor, said, “She is the best thing that had happened in the aviation industry in regards to new looks, renovation, equipment, trainings of staff, among other things in our airports.”

“The House of Representatives should be concerned with laws that will better the lives of the people, such as the ban of air crafts above 30 years from date of manufacture. It is an open secret that the air crafts bought and used by our air line operators are far above 30years.

The death rates are as a result of old age of the planes brought into the country. Why are the lawmakers looking at only one side when it is obvious that the neck will ache? It is their failure that has cost the nation millions of lives, they failed to move a motion to save the lives lost, but instead are shouting about cars bought by NCAA, not even for the minister’s personal use,” he said.

Prebor asserted, “It is true that the Central bank Governor Malam Sanusi and the former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili raised an alarm that law makers will shut down the country, why did they not raise a motion to look into that.

“The motion moved by Hon. Samson Osagie, seconded by Hon. Shehu Gusau of APC failed to include why our refineries are not working, casualization of workers in the oil industry with peanut as salary, ASUU strike, low salaries for the military, police and civil servants.

“We, the NDPCVL are watching with keen interest the activities of the lawmakers; we urge them to live up to expectation as it will not be business as usual. They should make enabling laws to force air line operators to buy brand new air-crafts to make the air space save for air users,” he said.

According to him, “The major problem affecting the aviation sector is too many unnecessary interference, the ministers in the various ministries should be allowed to take charge absolutely and that that will bring productivity,” he added.

Make sure you top your class with a 1st Class or even 2:1 with prizes. Trust me if I interview you for a position, with some self confidence and ability to demonstrate that you are trainable, you will soon forget you studied philosophy. I know people with Yoruba Education working as project managers are earning 6 figures in $$$Dollars.

Set your goals get your priorities right, don't waste time partying and chasing skirts, they will soon be nestling 'cus of you!

Lagos is the only south west state that doesn't have a yoruba name and that's because Lagos is for all. Check out the typical yoruba states like Ekiti and you have a better idea of what yorubas can do.

It will be a different case in gubernatorial election. We will not miss him. My town, Ogidi benefited greatly from both Ngige and Obi's tenure. I am Ngige supporter until today, but I have moved to undecided. There are some things that are not to be toyed with. Ngige is well aware of those things. He shot himself at the foot politically. What APGA needs to do to tear down Ngige's image in the minds of Anambrarians is to prove that he is indeed an ACN stooge. This comment is one of the evidence. If they hammer this message repeatedly on Tvs and radios from now till November, I bet that Ngige support will collapse, hence lose the election.
