This matthew 23:23 is a discussion befor the death of christ and befor the new covanant was started.
That was the old covanant discussion when christ was still alive.

Ofcouse we know that it is the blood of christ that enforce the new covanant that brought an end to the Abrahamic covanant.

It was in the Abrahamic covanant that Tithing was allowed, so, christ was talking on the basis of the old covanant and chestising the pharisees.

So, when Jesus was addressing the pharisees he was talking on the basis of the old covanant and not a command in the NT.

It was christ death/ blood that open/started the new covanant as the bible says.

You are bringing a law of old covanant to the new covanant.

Again, the law on tith are in the OT and clearly spelt out, it is crooks like you that come to the NT to get a justification on tith being money.

That discussion between Jesus and the pharisees, was it base on a law that was given just then or it is an old law?

Why leave where the law was given and desperately take a statement out of context to justify an old law?

That is because Tithing is not a christian law but a Jewish/Israelite law:

"He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD." (Psalm 147:19-20).

We are gentiles and not Israelites, and as such, the OT Tithing does not apply to Gentiles. Us.

Again, Tithing command is not given to Christians, but rather, it is put to an end in Hebrews 7.

Why, when u finally find one that doesn't cheat, does everyone think he's doing the girl a favour? And why do we, the women act all meek and gentle and let them get away with it in the name of love and endurance?

My cousin's gf caught him in the act and he had the guts to tell her during the ensuing argument that he has every right to cheat cos he needs to get as many different girls as he can and compare them before he finally choses the best one to settle down with. I tried talking to him after his girlfriend left and he said ''if i wan buy garri for market sef, i no go taste different ones before i chose the one wey i go buy?'' I was so pissed... I ranted and raved and he just ignored me.

I don't blame him sha, i blame the sexist society we live in...in fact i dey vex!

Yes money was in existence during the time of Jesus... Remember they were under Roman Occupation? They paid tax ..etc One of his disciples was a former tax collector etc. Even Jesus had to pay tax (He asked them to go fish and in the mouth of the Fish was a Coin and that was used in paying his tax.) So money was in existence quiet alright, but GOD never asked anybody to give money as Tithe.. He asked for food and livestock instead. So my question is Who Changed it? When, and Why? Thanks

In Biblical time, people were already using money, but GOD never asked the Children of Israel to give money as Tithe but rather crops and Livestock. Especially in Malachi that so many people Quote, God talked about food crop and how he would bless the land and their crops would not be destroyed. God specifically asked for these so that his Priest in the Temple would have food to eat especially since they don't own farmlands like the rest. So my question here is who substituted Crops and Livestock for Money? When did this Start, and Why? I hope there are some Experts here that might be able to share more light into this.

The thing is Nigerians dont know anytin and dont like to be told they dont know.Only few of them accept truths. The Bible was written by men very long ago,so lots of what was written would have been lost since dey wer written at diffrent timelines...To cut d story short..the bible is not to be taken literally!
Sometimes I tire for Nigerians dey will see simple truth and not accept...dats why Nigeria will never go anywer til dat mentality is changed.We say we are religious yet,wer are we...take USA ,Europe,even Asia dat dont Believe in the bible,are not christians or dat dont claim dey are religious...arent dey beta dan us in evritin....isnt it even dem dat started Christianity at first...yet we do na we kno pass.The bible miracles can be true or not that is not the problem(Doe I believe the miracles)but these bible we are even talkin about even if God wrote it himself it was translated by men who were not around wen it was writte,,do you get me??so,some tins mite not b correct.And wat we kno as d bible is just part of all the numerous scrolls dat exist.Even the catholic bible has more books dan protestants..so,wat do u say about dis...

That a Priest doesn't believe in Miracles, should have no bearing on anyone whatsoever but himself. Salvation is Personal, it's that Simple! If a Miracle Happens in my Household, should I say "because a Priest I have never met says Miracles dont happen" so I should pretend the Miracle never happened even when I am living with it" What I see here is man trying to Make laws for GOD to live by instead of the other way around...

pastormustwacc: If you must know, i was born into a strong catholic home, and i was even a mass server. I can read rosary and most of your prayers, and know a lot of your church doctrines.

But now, I neither follow catholic nor protestant. In fact, i dont believe christians should even go to church in the first place.
I dont believe christians should even pay tithes sef. And i have made threads on these stuffs.

I dont wish to distract the thread, i am just stating my opinions. If you see me as a lost soul - your problem, and not mine.

But i follow the teachings of Christ very closely in the bible - and i do fellowship with other believers, irrespective of their denominations.

And that my friend is the CHURCH, a group of believers and not the Bulding. The building is never the Church but the grop or gathering of Believers. Bless

This post just brought out an ugly FACT, and that is so many Pentecostal churches are owned by the Pastors and pass over to their wives or kids when they die. It is like a Heavy Business franchise that must remain with the family another reason why church (business) is growing at an alarming rate in Nigeria and most parts of the world. As a former Catholic, one thing I still admire about the Church, is the fact that no one Priest or Bishop can treat it like his personal property because it is not...Tomorrow that Priest or Bishop can be transferred..

He has moved on, barely one week after.Maybe its just my imagination but it was really easy for him. I don't know if its usually so easy to let go of someone you truly and really love.

He was everything to me, he made me very happy, my world went round because of him, and now, my world feels so empty without him. We had decided to go ahead initially, with the plan of having CVS with each pregnancy but he is too scared to take that chance. This is the saddest thing that ever happened to me all my life. I still want him. Imagine finding someone you love completely, and finding all u ever wanted in that person but still not be able to have that person.

I'm praying to God for strength to carry on (even though I must be truthful, I'm sorry, but my faith and belief in him has greatly dwindled) as I really don't wanna do anything nasty.I don't understand why God would sit by and watch me go through dis and not intervene.

Any words of encouragement to help me go through dis would be appreciated, as I don't really have my friends around me at the moment and I feel so lonely in this world, plus I really needed to bare my heart one way or the other.

So refrain from judging others when they do things beyond what you can comprehend as long as they have not stolen from your pocket,house or public purse.The poor we would always have in our midst even Jesus said it but its for every man to know what he can do to bring him out of poverty. this is what Oyedepo preaches.I didn't know untill I listened to him,read his books, listened to his CDs and I was able to come out of poverty meanwhile I wasn't a member of his church.

Can you show me where JESUS asked you to pay tithe in the Bible? Did anybody actually gave money as Tithe in the Bible? cos there were using money in those days.... Thanks

Offerings and tithes are both spiritual principles . They both existed before the law. They are part of worship . God didn't say in Malachi that ye robbed me in tithes only. He said "in tithes and offerings "

In tithes and offerings..

But who is GOD talking to here in Malachi, that is the question! In truth this little part that people use is part of a long verse, and if the whole is not read, then this verse would be out of Context. Please read the whole story leading to this verse, because it seems GOD is angry and talking to a whole different set of people than what people are made to believe. So read the whole Malachi first.. Tithe is a very sensitive Issue especially to Nigerians, and most of the time Tithe based topics usually turn into heated debates that sometimes leads to insults. So before commenting here I plead with you to keep it civil and think very deep before responding as others can learn a thing or two from you.

Back to my question, What if your Pastor is against tithe and tells you it's not applicable to Christians, what will you do? To be more precise, If Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Chris Oyakilome wakes up tomorrow and orders all their members to stop paying Tithe... Sincerely speaking what will you do?

1.Stop paying Tithe
2.Go against their command and still continue paying Tithe
3.Start attending another Church and continue paying the Tithe

This is a Christian based research and would hope some of you will take part and answer the question as sincerely as you can. The reason for this is, since Tithing became very popular in Nigeria I have been of the opinion that most people pay Tithe not because they have read the Bible, done their own personal research on Tithe and are personally convinced that GOD demands tithe from Christians. Instead most pay Tithe because their Pastors say they should do so and will reap the benefits from GOD

Through this, I really hope we can discuss the true reason why people pay Tithe and learn a lot from each other. Bless
