prettyprettywow: there is nothing much Drs can do about ebola virus since it has no cure. There is no treatment for it yet, so no need of accusing the Dr of wickedness. The most important thing is observation and support of the patients by the nurses and to prevent the spread of the disease. the virologists who are scientists will do the test to confirm the diagnosis. The most important people here are the public health specialists. So the Drs can still continue with their demand. 100,000 hazard allowance should be approved for the health workers that truly deserve it.
For once, I agree with you. And the money shouldn't be just for doctors but every healthcare worker. When we have a case of confirmed lassa fever we were only given the drug to take for free. That drug is horrible with bad side effects. When we asked for a few days off, we were told the hospital was short staffed and couldn't take any day off. That was when I realized that if I contract the virus somebody would replace me and nobody cared.that was when I swore never to go above my duties ever again for the hospital

n you write on Android? Yes, you can. What all? Anything you want basically. You can write anything from short notes, to articles like this, to a screenplay.

If you are not put off by the small screen sizes anymore (it’s the age of big screen phones anyway) and you feel that you could get some writing done on the phone if only you knew the right tools (read apps), then this post is for you. So, without further ado, here’s how to get writing done efficiently on Android.

1. Writing In JotterPad X
Android doesn’t have nearly as many writing apps as iOS (really, the difference is huge) but that doesn’t matter because it has one awesome app - JotterPad X: Writer. It’s a one-stop solution to all your writing needs on Android.

The app is free but with limitations. You can import documents from Dropbox, revert to past versions, even write in Markdown (or a screenplay in .fountain format), all for free.

But if you are willing to pay $5 as an in-app purchase, this simple app will turn into a fully featured text editor. The in-app purchase will give you access to research tools where you can bring up a fully featured dictionary and thesaurus in a popup window, all without ever leaving the app.

If you’re planning to write on your Android tablet, with or without a Bluetooth keyboard, JotterPad X is what you need. It has an extendable keyboard to add most used shortcuts, multiple themes and fonts and a really clean UI.

2.Manage Your Thoughts And Ideas
If you’re going to write a lot, you’re going to think a lot. And while you can fool yourself into thinking that you’ll remember an idea the next morning, you know you won’t.

Better to note down any thought as and when it comes to mind. The way I do it is I keep two different note taking solutions. One to just quickly jot down stuff and one to note down the details when I’m actually sitting down and doing my research.

For simple note taking, I’d recommend Simplenote. The Android client works well and you can access you notes online as well. There’s also Google’s own Keep. Having them as widgets on the homescreen helps a lot.

For a more detailed approach to note taking, where you need better formatting, Evernote is the best. It’s a great app to create an outline in.

3. Look Up Definition Without Leaving The App
JotterPad X’s paid upgrade allows you to have a dictionary right inside your writing window, but if you don’t want to/can’t pay for that in-app purchase, there is a free workaround.

I’ve written about it in detail here. You can use it in any app that has the share menu integrated (which JotterPad X sadly does not). After installing WordLookup, just select a word and from the sharing menu, select WordLookup. The app will show the definition as a popup for a couple of seconds. And you’ll know if you’ve used the word in the correct sense or not.

4. Get A Dedicated Dictionary App
To get better aquatinted with words you don’t know, get a dictionary app. You’ve got a lot of choices. You can get an offline dictionary app or look at established options like the Dictionary.com app.

5. Grammar And Spell Check With Ginger
Ginger Page & Grammar Keyboard uses the best of Android tools at its disposal and the company’s amazing English language engine to bring you a streamlined writing experience.

You can write inside the app and make use of the app’s great spell check and grammar tool but that’s like buying a Ferrari and driving it at speed limit.

Enable the Ginger external keyboard to use it to write in apps like JotterPad. This way you get powerful writing tools of JotterPad and great spell check and grammar all on one screen.

Ginger’s spell check works differently than other third party keyboards. It won’t auto correct anything. When you’re done with a sentence or a paragraph, scroll through the corrections, swipe up to delete something you think the app got wrong, then tap the checkmark and all the changes will be applied at once.

When the keyboard senses a grammatical mistake or a broken sentence structure, it will activate the Feather button. Tap on it to solve the mistakes.

I think JotterPad X and Ginger keyboard make a great combination for writers on the go. Also, if you’re going to write a lot on your Android tablet, I suggest you get a Bluetooth keyboard. Typing on a touch screen keyboard, no matter how advanced, just can’t be as good as a physical keys.

Editing With Android Apps
I’ve tried writing on my Android phone and on my iPhone as well. I could never do it. But I found a great use case for these apps. I use them for editing and proofreading a long article. When I’ve written too much for the day, the last thing I want to do is look at my default text editor.

So I switch to the iPad or Android and as I use Dropbox to save my files, they are on all my devices. This closed, one-app-per-screen environment is great for editing. It helps you focus. And thanks to something like Ginger keyboard, I can take care of silly typos and grammatical mistakes as well.

YourHealthlabs: There are quack physicians and there are quack Scientists. If you can get the name of the "scientist" and out find if he is licensed we can start from there. The MLSCN has a disciplinary commitee and i know a person who has his license currently suspended. Until you do that i can't believe that a Scientist that goes through the same training i went through will sign and give out such ludicrous result. Therefore i will consider it untrue until proven.

But!...let me remind you that many of the outside labs are owned by physicians who claim they are "all-knowing". I know of a lab (owned by a physician) that gives out PcV results without running the test at all, he does not have a Scientist in that lab. Infact the lab does not have a hematocrit, and that man keeps fighting the Medical Laboratory Science Council officials whenever they come for inspection, refusing them entry into that "kitchen" he calls a lab because he is A DOCTOR. This is very common.

Now you have just blamed the Scientist for a wrong result, see why the Medical Lab council must stand it's ground in the regulation of medical laboratory regardless of who the owner is?
that doctor should be santioned for doing such an act, i don't condone such an act. but back to my case

the hospital i work with goes through all qualifications of all staff before employment as well as perform an exam. you refuse to believe that a lab scientist, employed by government hospital can produce such a result? are you calling a lab scientist employed by a government hospital a quack?
if you recall in my post, i differentiated between a lab result i got from an outside source to that i got from the hospital? i am willing to accept that people make mistakes, can you?

Here's a scenario : a woman had an ulcer on her foot from which a nurse took a swab and sent to the lab. Result came out showing a culture very sensitive to genticin and moderately sensitive to another drug. The nurse started injecting the genticin. What she didn't realize was that the woman was diabetic for a long time with resultant kidney problems and that drug could destroy the kidney. When I tried to make an input, I was told to mind my business. RIP woman.
This happened during my service.

YourHealthlabs: Oga..the antibiotic sensitivity multi-disc used during Antibiogram studies can not have Ciprotab and Ciprofloxacin on a multi-disc, that's duplication of results, and no qualified Scientist will report Ciprotab(Brand name) and Ciprofloxacin(Generic name) on the same study even as single discs. That's why the B.MLS curriculum ensures you study Pharmacology for 12 months.(PHM 321, PHM322)

But we remember your Oga Dr Enabulele erroneously declaring on a national newspaper column that Vibro cholerae is gram positive organism when in actual fact the Cholera-causing organism is Gram negative bacterium. He wrote it twice in that piece (Sun newspaper dated Nov 28. page 32, 2013). These are the people that claim to know everything about Medical Laboratory science.
Dude, this is what I see on a daily basis, in a tertiary hospital for that matter. Can get copies of such reports for you. Are you saying such hospitals don't employ qualified scientist?
The one I can never forget was candida sensitive to metronidazole. This was from an outside lab. I swear on my certificate

YourHealthlabs: Yeah...patients/people can actually self-order tests in advanced countries, even online. It is a global practice bro. You want links and proofs?. Google is free man.
I agree with you there but in those countries you are advised to consult a doctor to interpret such results. Sometimes the results are not as straight forward as simple interpretation.
For example, you can order for a urinalysis which shows features suggestive of an infection. A lab scientist will look at the result and treat the infection. However, a doctor will notice the protein is a bit high for an infection, will ask for further test and confined that that patient has the beginning of a kidney disease and institute treatment.

ismokeweed: I hear. Do their work. Lab rat trying to be a doctor after no school accepted you to study medicine.
That's not nice. Not everyone wanted to read medicine. Have friends that are scientist, nurses and pharmacist that enjoy their work and love what they do. It's the bad ones or those that are dissatisfied with their work that have issues. Also those with inferiority complex. Let's respect others

I have seen lab results from medical lab scientist that revealed a urine culture was resistant to ciprofloxacin but sensitive to ciprotab.a typical Nigerian will go and buy the 2nd drug without realizing that the two drugs are both the same. Don't want to even start on Malaria and typhoid

Just think; you are in a BRT bus filled with people, someone starts coughing and sneezing and having serious fever. Right in the middle of third mainland bridge, the man starts vomiting blood. Everyone jumps out of the bus shouting " it's not my portion" not realising that the man has been distributing the virus since the the beginning of the journey while you were stuck in traffic. What about the change you get from the conductor or the buttons you press on the ATM machine?

what you can do as an individual

1. watch out for fever which ia persistent from morning till night. it is usually very high. don't assume it is malaria.

2. look for redness of the eyes that persist more than two days despite using eyedrops.

3. watch out for anyone who deteriorates clinically very fast. from very active to bed ridden within a very short period of time.

4. persons that cough out blood, vomit blood, urinates blood should raise your suspicion

5. MOST IMPORTANT, DO NOT TOUCH SUCH PERSONS. destroy all materials they come in contact with. buy gloves to handle such materials.
