The reason Post-UTME was scrapped by the Federal Government has been revealed by former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola. He said that Nigerian universities deviated from the initial agreement NUC had with Vice-Chancellors in 2004 when Post-UTME was introduced to screen candidates via oral interview and written essay. While further explaining the reasons Post-UTME was scrapped, Professor Okebukola expatiated on reasons for the introduction of post-UTME in 2014. He explained that the NUC and the vice-chancellors found out that they needed to admit into the universities, secondary school leavers who have at least two characteristics – Cognitive competence and Intuitive sense. THE REASONS GOVT SCRAPPED POST-UTME SCREENING The former was tested tested by JAMB while institutions were expected to test the latter. ‘’JAMB’s UTME targets only the first characteristic; while the university- level screening should measure the second,’’ he said. He, however said: ‘’We got the blessing of President Olusegun Obasanjo and the National Assembly to do the following: maximum charge to candidates for the exercise should be one thousand Naira (N1,000), candidates should be screened not with the kind of test used by JAMB but through other mechanisms. According to him, since 2010, both guidelines were ditched by most universities, stressing that universities were conducting the same tests as JAMB, charging at least five times the agreed-cost and not conducting oral interviews and essay screening. Excerpts: VanguardNGR So, these are the reasons for scrapping of Post-UTME. Do you think the Federal Government is justified to do this? Share your thoughts with us!

Meet Alexandra Andresen, the youngest billionaire in the world who is just 19-years- old and flying higher than ever. Alexandra Andresen is the youngest billionaire in the world. This was revealed by Forbes in its 2016 ranking of the richest people on earth. The Norwegian heiress, 19, is now worth $1.2 billion (£862 million). This was possible because In 2007 her father, Johan Andresen, transferred to her 42% of the stock in Ferd, the family’s centuries-old private-investment company. He also transferred a 42% stake in the company to her sister, Katharina, who at 20 is the second-youngest billionaire in the world. She’s also worth $1.2 billion. According to reports, she became the world’s youngest billionaire after the Norwegian government published her tax returns which is done for people over 17. However, the amazing girl has shown that being rich doesn’t make one not to aspire. Alexandra is already an accomplished horse rider, winning several massive competitions in dressage. The humble and gifted girl has followed her family’s steps by investing in savings. The girl who is worth billions actually saved her pocket money during her younger years and drove only secondhand cars. Now, that is incredible!
