https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-JhjPG7ZIY Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has advised President Bola Tinubu not to seek re-election if he is truly a smart politician.
Baba-Ahmed, who appeared on Arise Television’s political program, ‘Prime Time,’ on Friday, believes Tinubu’s time is up, adding that everything is there for the president and the ruling All Progressives Party to see that they would lose in 2027.
“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel if he is that smart politician that he turns out to be,” Baba-Datti asserted.
The LP chieftain sarcastically described Tinubu as a super smart politician who started presenting presidential candidates in 2007, “culminating in his electoral heist in 2023.”
He said, “He skipped 2007 and jokingly made Atiku (presidential) candidate, made Ribadu and somebody 2011, made Buhari in 2015, Buhari won, and then skipped 2019 and they stole 2023. If he is that smart, everything is there for him that he’s going to lose 2027.”
According to Baba-Ahmed, two possible candidates can defeat Tinubu in 2027.
He claimed that Tinubu would not fulfill his campaign promises for Nigerians because “it has been proven that APC is a lie.”
“Buhari did not develop Nigeria, Buhari did not provide security, Buhari did not fight corruption. Neither will Tinubu ever do this,” he said.
The LP 2023 Vice Presidential candidate predicted that the APC would lose the 2027 election. He added that Nigerians will unite ahead of the election and come out to vote out bad leaders.
“I see APC losing this election. I see Nigerians somehow uniting, listening to what someone like me is saying that if you cannot practice this, democracy is not for you, and then Nigerians will decide to come out and practice democracy for the first time, and then bad leadership will begin to have no hiding place in Nigeria,” he predicted.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) has appealed to the National Assembly to support the state in enhancing maritime operations there.
He stressed the need for strict implementation of all existing Public Private Partnership agreements at the various Sea Ports in the State to properly harness derivable benefits.
Ibas made the call when he received a courtesy visit from members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets, led by its Chairman, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
He said the State has continued to serve as a critical hub for maritime, oil and gas operations, including other industrial activities.
He stated that however, weak regulatory framework, a lack of accountability and conflicting interests between stakeholders, have hampered business growth.
The sole administrator charged them to fine-tune such PPP agreements to ensure transparency and strict adherence to contractual obligations.
Ibas expressed regret that despite the volume of such maritime activities going on, Rivers State continues to grapple with numerous challenges in the infrastructure landscape due to years of neglect, vandalism and under-utilization.
He noted the need for such public assets that are now in dire need of rehabilitation and strategic realignment, to be given the desired attention.
Ibas stated, “Among the assets currently operating under Public, Private Partnership framework in the state are the Onne Port Complex, various oil and gas service zones and certain segments of the Nigerian Ports Authority facilities.
“While some of these partnerships have yielded appreciable results in enhancing operational capacities and boosting revenue, others remain underperforming due to weak regulatory frameworks, lack of accountability, and conflicting interest between stakeholders
“A comprehensive assessment of these assets is therefore essential to determine their current state and chart a clear path forward.
“I believe that the National Assembly, through this committee, is well positioned to help fine-tune existing Public, Private Partnership arrangements by ensuring greater transparency, adherence to contractual obligations, and improved monitoring mechanisms.”
He described their visit as auspicious, because it provides an opportunity for them to carry out on-the-spot assessments of key federal assets, particularly those under Public-Private Partnership, Lease-holding and Concession Agreements.
The Administrator urged greater collaboration in ensuring that those partnerships truly deliver value for money and serve the best interest of Rivers people.
“It is also important to emphasise the significance of this oversight visit in evaluating the state of critical infrastructure in our state.
“In the past few weeks, our administration has prioritised the stabilization of the state’s security environment and the peaceful resolution of the political conflicts that had threatened to erode public trust and economic progress.
“Through consultations, peace-building engagements, and coordination with security agencies, we have taken deliberate steps to restore normalcy and strengthen the fabric of unity in Rivers State, ” he explained.
Ibas stressed that as his administration looks to the future, it will require sustained collaboration and the support of institutions like the National Assembly to achieve its mandate.
He said, “We therefore call on the National Assembly to continue supporting us in our effort to reposition Rivers State on the path of peace, progress, and prosperity.
“We count on your expertise and your legislative support as we work to enhance the value of federal assets in the state, improve service delivery, and stimulate economic growth.”
Ibas said the visit of the national lawmakers has rekindled hope that together, they can work to overcome the challenges and unlock the vast potential of Rivers State for the benefit of all Nigerians.

The governor described the road as the busiest in the North and second busiest in Nigeria, after the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, lamenting that the people watched helplessly as its condition worsened over the years.
“The reconstruction of this road will undoubtedly bring much-needed relief and development to our communities. It will create job opportunities and boost security, transforming the socio-economic and political landscape of our region,” he added.
According to him, one of the reasons that the contractor gave for not completing the project apart from funding was the insecurity that was prevailing along the Kaduna-Abuja road at that time.
He commended the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for stabilising the security situation along the route through effective coordination of security agencies and the implementation of the Kaduna Peace Model.
The governor also disclosed that the president has directed all stakeholders to expedite work on other major federal road projects, including the long-delayed Eastern and Western Bypasses in Kaduna.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, assured Nigerians that the 700 kilometre road would be completed within 14 months with concrete-reinforced pavement.
According to him, the road’s standard will be like the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. He said the president has added 11 kilometres to the 280 kilometres at the Kano section, extending it to the Aminu Kano International Airport.
He revealed that after terminating the contract with Julius Berger, the project had been re-awarded to a new firm with a proven track record, which has been ‘’tested and proven to be competent to do the job. I have no regrets awarding them this job”
Mr Umahi also disclosed that the president also said that the reconstructed highway will have solar-powered lighting and Close Circuit TV surveillance, ‘’throughout the stretch.’’
The minister further said President Tinubu has awarded the completion of sections 1 and 3, a total of 118 kilometres, for a total sum of N252 billion, and that 30 per cent of the amount has been paid to the contracting firm.
He commended Governor Sani for his relentless efforts to ensure the project took off, describing him as “a smart governor who has united the people of Kaduna behind the President and the APC.”

“Earlier, the Obidient Movement had built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, and we continued the support yesterday with the sum of 7.5 million naira to help in providing facilities for the displaced children, provide continuous education and on going needs of those affected.
“My heart is with the people of Bokkos, the displaced children, women, and entire communities during this difficult time,” he said.

Self-declared National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Lamidi Apapa, has asserted that he is the most constitutionally qualified person to steer the party through its current leadership crisis, citing his seniority and the party’s constitution as grounds for his claim.
He said, “I don’t know whether you have seen a copy of my address when I was making the declaration. I said one of the things that I intend to do, that I think should make them believe that I am ready to save the party, in the sense that I’m not prepared to contest for office of the National Government. And I intend to stay for only six months. Thirdly, I intend to zone the National Chairman of the party to the north. Because the man who died, Alhaji Abdulsalam, is from the north and he stayed for a few months before he died. So that should allow them to produce the next chairman. And I’ve made this promise right from the start.”
Apapa’s claims come during a turbulent time in the leadership of the Labour Party, as a Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court’s judgement concerning the party’s leadership revealed that the court ruled that Abure’s tenure as the National Chairman of the party had expired and sacked him from his position.

The Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Victor Umeh, says the Supreme Court judgement on the Labour Party (LP) leadership crisis has shut the door on Julius Abure as the party’s chairman.
Umeh said that Abure should take the admonishment of the apex court and humbly bow out.
“The door has been shut on him (Abure), and the only thing left to him is for him to reflect over the admonishment given to him by the Supreme Court that officers of a party should be humble enough to leave office when their tenure expires,” Umeh said on the programme.
“His tenure has expired, he knows it, and he is in breach of an agreement which became a consent judgement of the Federal High Court that he should do the following things, and he refused to do them. From that time till today, Abure has not held any congress anywhere.”
The LP Senator also advised Abure to take the olive branch from Senator Nenadi Usman’s National Caretaker Committee of the party to join the process again if he thinks the party people love him and want him to continue as chairman.
He said Abure cannot make himself chairman without going through the process to get him reelected. Senator Umeh said that Abure should have taken his wise counsel based on his experience of many years as the chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for many years.
The lawmaker said that he saw the situation coming and advised Abure but was dismissed by the embattled LP chieftain.
The Labour Party (LP) has been embroiled in leadership tussle pitching Abure and members of his cabinet against Nenadi Usman’s Caretaker Committee constituted by the party’s presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti and other elected officials of the party.
Bashiru Lamidi Apapa has announced that he has taken over the leadership of the Labour Party following the Supreme Court judgement that sacked Julius Abure as the national chairman of the opposition party.
Apapa made this declaration at a press conference.
He cited the recent April 4, 2025, Supreme Court judgement that nullified Abure’s leadership as a reason for his decision.
Apapa announced that the National Working Committee of the party as of 2022 will meet next week, Monday, 14th April 2025.
“Following the dismissal of the cross appeal filed by the ousted former National Chairman Bar Julius Abure, also by the Supreme Court on April 4th, 2025, what this means is that all actions and decisions taken by Julius Abure since April 4th, 2023, are null and void.
“Following the decision of the Supreme Court on setting aside all judgements that recognise the leadership of Julius Abure as National Chairman, I, ALH BASHIRU LAMIDI APAPA, the most senior deputy national, and in consonance with our party constitution, Article 14 2(a)(b), hereby take over the running of the affairs of our great party with effect from today, Wednesday, the 9th day of April 2025, in an acting capacity, and Alh Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Secretary,” he stated.
“My leadership hereby calls on all members of the Labour Party that the National Working Committee of our party as of 2022 will meet next week, Monday, 14th April 2025, to announce our plans, which will include zoning the position of National Chairman to the North and National Secretary to the South.
”My leadership will also take proactive steps to resuscitate the moribund Board of Trustees and make it functional.
He added, “The National Working Committee members listed below are hereby put on notice about the NWC meeting coming up on Monday next week, where we will immediately set in motion the conduct of Ward Congresses, Local Government Congresses, State Congresses, and National Convention, where every member of our party shall have the right to participate, provided you are a financial member.”
“Deputy National Chairman NLC, Mr. Ladi Iliya; Deputy National Chairman TUC, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, National Secretary; Alh. Umar Farouq Ibrahim, National Legal Adviser; Bar. Oyelekan Akingbade, National Publicity Secretary; Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, National Treasurer; and Mrs. Oluchi Opara, National Youth Leader”, he stated.
