https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUI2DgFL8Ok The President of the Ijaw Nation Congress, Professor Benjamin Okaba has alleged that there are sinister plans by some unnamed politicians to destroy Ijaw unity. Recall that Okaba recently blasted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a careless speaker who could say anything under the influence of alcohol. He said, “The person you’re talking about (Wike) could say anything under the influence of alcohol and later debunk it; he is a very careless speaker. These are basic demographics that are well-known. Ijaws are not the fourth largest; they are one of the four largest. “Most times, we look at the land mass, the land mass in terms of space cannot exist outside a water space. So the boundaries of the Ijawland or may be Nigeria beyond land; it goes into the rivers. So from wherever that is a boundary of Nigeria, all that River spots belong to the Ijawland.”

She also urged her supporters to disregard speculations making the round that she has cancelled her scheduled visit. The embattled lawmaker stated that she has a statutory function in her capacity as the lawmaker representing her constituents. She urged her supporters to troop out en masse to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr with her. On Monday, the Kogi State Government banned rallies and public gatherings in the state over ‘security reports’. The government also stopped fishing and other activities, arguing that they recently resulted in the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo and Umozu Ette, all in Kogi Local Government Area in Kogi West. The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo said the move was to prevent any form of security breach that might destabilise the state. Similarly, the Kogi Police Command warned Akpoti-Uduagan to cancel her planned Sallah rally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-fPeDZ-VpM The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rted), has charged the new Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibibia Worika, to bring his wealth of experience to bear in governance of the State. Ibas gave the charge shortly after swearing in Worika as the new SSG at the Executive Chambers of Government House. This swiftly follows the announcement of the suspension of all government and political office holders and appointees in the state, including the now suspended SSG, Dr. Tammy Danagogo. According to a statement from the Government House Press Unit, the Administrator, while congratulating Worika, noted that his appointment was not merely an administrative decision but a statement of intent. He explained that the new SSG has an unparalleled expertise in law, policy and international governance, which align perfectly with the mission to restore law, order, integrity and public trust in Rivers State. The statement quotes him as saying, “To our new SSG, the task ahead is onerous, but your track record leaves no doubt in our minds that you will prove your mettle. Rivers State needs your intellect, grit and unwavering dedication. Together, we will write a new chapter of progress for this great state. “Prof Worika’s role will be critical in driving this vision, ensuring that every policy, every decision and every action is in consonance with this administration’s mandate to restore law and order, stabilize the polity and to create the necessary conditions for the restoration of democratic institutions and representations.” Referencing his maiden address to Rivers people, where he emphasised that his administration will be committed to delivering an effective governance that is anchored on transparency, accountability and service, Ibas enjoined the new SSG to brace up to the demands of his office. “You have no time to settle down. You must roll up your sleeves and get to work with the team. “Our civil servants with whom we will work closely to run this administration are critical stakeholders and we must work with them to ensure that the state continues to function effectively during this administration. “To the Permanent Secretaries and civil servants as a whole, once more I will ask for your kind cooperation and support as we work to achieve our objectives at this time,” he added.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI74V7IvtQU The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, says top political dignitaries are joining the party in droves from every state across Nigeria. “Virtually every day we receive decampees to SDP, every state of the federation including today. I received some today in my office, these are dignitaries. “If you google you will see there are over 300 resignation letters from VIPs, some of them were Senators, some of them were Ministers that are joining the party,” Gabam said on the programme. The SDP Chair said that his mission and that of the party is to unseat the current government of APC when another election is conducted in 2027. “I am a leader of a political party; my mission is to take over the government, the mission of APC is to retain power, the mission of PDP is to take over power,” Gabam said in reply to whether his party wants to take over power from the APC. He expressed confidence in the possibilities of the SDP taking over power because according to him the APC-led government is not listening to the feelings of the people and risks losing the election in 2027. Gabam said that President Bola Tinubu’s perceived political brilliance is not enough to guarantee APC victory in the 2027 election. “Anyone can lose the election; it’s not about individual brilliance or strategy. If there is brilliance, if there is efficacy in power, they wouldn’t have been making the mistakes they are making today. “We believe that there are surplus of talents untapped that can deliver leadership in Nigeria, no individual has monopoly of quality of leadership that is not available anywhere else,” he added.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jixegwfyEks “Leadership is about serving the people with integrity, not using power for personal or political gain. The current actions in Rivers State are a clear abuse of power and a deviation from the principles that should guide our democracy,” Jonathan said. The Former President Goodluck Jonathan has strongly condemned the actions of President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State, labeling them a “clear abuse of power.” Jonathan made this remark at the 2025 Annual Colloquium on Promoting Social Change and Development, where he addressed various issues affecting Nigeria’s political landscape. In his speech, Jonathan emphasized the need for Nigerians to remain vigilant and actively push for the right course of action in governance. He stressed that the country’s progress depends on the collective will of its people to uphold democratic values and accountability. The former president did not provide specific details about the alleged actions in Rivers State but reiterated the importance of transparency, good governance, and public trust in the nation’s leadership. Jonathan’s comments come at a time of heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where the relationship between the state government and the federal government has been strained in recent months. The former president called on Nigerians to insist on doing the right thing and to hold their leaders accountable. “The people of Nigeria must not allow any government to undermine the rights and freedoms that we have fought so hard to secure. We must demand that our leaders act in the best interest of the country,” Jonathan added. His remarks are expected to spark further debate and reflection on the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the actions of the current administration. As Nigeria continues to navigate its political challenges, Jonathan’s call for responsible leadership and citizens’ engagement in holding government accountable is a timely reminder of the importance of social change and development.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bcX-Ys1sR4 Veteran Nigerian actor and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo has declared that Nigeria is now officially in a “full-blown dictatorship.” His remarks come in response to the ongoing political situation in Rivers State, particularly surrounding the recent imposition of emergency rule in the state, which he considers a blatant violation of democratic principles. He criticized the federal government for what he perceives as an authoritarian power grab that undermines the country’s democratic institutions. According to him, the decision to impose emergency rule in Rivers State is an overreach of executive power and marks a dangerous shift toward centralized control at the federal level. He argues that this sets a precedent for other states, potentially leading to the erosion of democratic processes throughout the nation. In particular, Okonkwo condemned the government’s move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, calling it not just politically motivated but “treasonable.” He asserted that such actions threaten the very fabric of Nigeria’s democracy, as they infringe on the rights of the people of Rivers State to freely choose their leadership. Okonkwo expressed that any action targeting elected officials outside of constitutional processes should be seen as an assault on the country’s democratic values and an attack on the right of the electorate to hold their leaders accountable. “The move against Governor Fubara is treasonable because it undermines the authority of the people of Rivers State, who have the right to freely choose their governor,” Okonkwo said in a public statement. “We cannot allow this kind of political maneuvering to become the norm. It is a clear example of a government that is overstepping its bounds and disregarding the principles of democracy.” The emergency rule was imposed following a period of escalating violence and unrest in Rivers State, with the federal government citing concerns over security and governance instability. However, Okonkwo and many critics argue that this is merely an excuse to stifle political opposition and centralize control, particularly in states where there is significant political opposition to the ruling party. “The power belongs to the people,” Okonkwo concluded. “We must not allow those in power to erode our democracy. If we allow this to happen, we will be setting the stage for a dictatorship, and that is a road no country should go down.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgtnJO2i0rc Coming after a closed-door meeting between Jandor and President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock, Abuja, last week, where undisclosed matters were discussed. Before meeting Tinubu, Jandor also held talks with several political leaders, including: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Former President Ibrahim Babangida, Former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and 2023 SDP Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo Ogunleye described these meetings as part of Jandor’s ongoing political consultations following his exit from the PDP. The National Secretary of the PDP and other party leaders had also reached out to Jandor, appealing for him to reconsider his resignation. The Former Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as JANDOR, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This was disclosed at a briefing, stating that his decision was driven by his desire to contribute to the progress of Lagos State and his belief that unity among progressives is essential to achieving the collective aspirations of the people. He explained that his journey in the PDP during the 2023 gubernatorial election was driven by a sincere desire to win for the party and serve the people of Lagos State. However, he noted that working within the fold of the APC offers a more viable platform to deliver on his promises of good governance for all Lagosians. JANDOR also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, for their roles in facilitating his return to the APC. The former PDP candidate assured his supporters that his decision was taken with the best interest of Lagos at heart and urged them to join him in embracing this new chapter as they work together to build a Lagos that works for everyone.
