Fani-Kayode lists other groups FG may proscribe after IPOB
nigerianeye.com

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, says the Nigerian government may go after other groups, now that Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been proscribed.

This is contained in an article he released on Wednesday.
Fani-Kayode wrote: “It is IPOB today but tomorrow, it could be OPC, Ijaw Youth Council, Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum, Arewa Youths, Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum or indeed anyone else.

“I have never heard of a “terrorist” organisation that has not killed or threatened to kill anyone and that has totally rejected the idea of violence and an armed struggle.

“I have never heard of a “terrorist” organisation whose only aspiration is to have a referendum to determine whether or not their people should or should not remain in Nigeria.

“I have never heard of a “terrorist” organisation whose only objective is the peaceful and lawful exercise of the right of self-determination.

“I have never heard of a “terrorist” organisation whose only crime is to take objection to the stripping away of their historical and cultural identity and to speak out against the willful marginalisation and mass murder of their people.

“I have never heard of a “terrorist” organisation who believe in passive and non-violent resistance and who consistently emphasise the importance of peaceful opposition.

“Saying that IPOB is a terrorist organisation is like saying that Mother Theresa is the Marquis De Sade. It is like saying that an angel from heaven is a demon from hell. It is like saying that Little Red Riding Hood is the hungry and ravenous wolf.”

Fani-Kayode recently alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari has an agenda to “wipe off” IPOB, its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and the “Igbo race”.

According to him, “Since when has it been acceptable or the norm to unleash the dogs of war against a group of innocent, unarmed and defenceless young people and their colourful leader simply because they dared to ask for a referendum?

“The fact of the matter is that whether anyone likes it or not, the attempt to break, subjugate, demonise, belittle, vilify and wipe out the Igbo race through the auspices of intimidation, disinformation, manipulation of the media, mass murder and ethnic cleansing by the Buhari administration shall fail.

“The truth is that this whole thing is not about IPOB but about the consistent expression of an irrational, illogical and pathological hatred of the Igbos by the maximum ruler of the Nigerian state.

“And if he gets away with it and manages to achieve his sinister and nefarious objective he will come after the Yoruba, the Ijaw, the Tiv and everyone else in a matter of time!

“That is why it is important to refuse to be intimidated, to stand firm, to hold the line, to resist him with every fiber of our being and to insist on the restructuring and the renegotiation of Nigeria”, the former presidential spokesman added.

It is obvious that we dont read nor research on issues, who ceded oil wells to Bayelsa, and ceded Akwa ibom oil wells to Cross river or vice versa, does Jonathan have the constitutional power to cede oil wells to any state he dims fit? .We have allowed Politician fool us for long by twisting facts, Check the records the oil wells were ceded to Bayelsa after a court judgement on the matter. And if that is so, why will Ameachi now play cheap politics by making every one believe that Jonathan unilateral ceded it.
And because wike knew the truth, he stood by Jonathan.
Now all Wike is doing is use the Professionals who will actually decide the real boundaries between the two states, from which the court can reverse its self following an emerging fact.

PoliticsAPC Is A Failure, Has Lily-Livered, Weak Leadership; IPOB Must Be Curbed - Sagay by lightblazingnow(op): 5:09pm On Sep 20, 2017
Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) Chairman Prof Itse Sagay (SAN) yesterday backed the military’s declaration of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation.

He said he agreed with the Defence Headquarters’ description of IPOB as a terror group even if he was not sure whether the army complied with legal requirements in making the pronouncement.

Sagay, in an interview with our correspondent, said IPOB exhibited characteristics that justified being so described.

According to him, even if the group wanted secession, there were better ways of doing it than using abusive language and stoking violence, which he accused IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu of.

[b]He said: “Whilst I’m not sure of the legal parameters of that declaration, in practice, I agree. If you look at it, we’re very lucky that this thing did not get out of hand.

“They (IPOB) were coming in their thousands, establishing road blocks, bringing out Northerners – for what, I don’t know – to kill some of them? If that is allowed, then the country is finished. Then they burned down a police station, killed a policeman.

“For Christ’s sake, even if you want Biafra, you don’t have to be violent. If you look at the words that Kanu uses on the social media, how he has described our President and the rest of us as living in a zoo – abusive, violent, intemperate words – kill, kill, kill, all those in my view, constitute in totality acts of terrorism in which they can push undiscerning youths into rage and violence, which can be destructive.

“You saw Moslems seeking protection in Port Harcourt. If you start killing Northerners and the North reacts, then we’ve had it.

“I just thank God that the North is showing some maturity and some sense of restraint while this is being curbed. But we really need to curb IPOB, otherwise they will turn this country into a tinderbox.”

Sagay said he would not stop expressing his views on issues of national importance despite the Senate asking President Buhari to call him to order.

When reminded that the All Progressives Congress (APC) also once cautioned him about his criticisms of the National Assembly, the law professor described the party’s leadership as “a failure”.

He said: “As for the leadership of the APC, I think they are the most unprincipled group of people. They are lily-livered, weak, and cannot run any organisation. The whole party is collapsing under them. They cannot control anybody.

“In fact, they’re now encouraging and accepting ‘rogue elephants’, pampering people who are destroying the party, saying ‘let’s not annoy them too much’, but they’re destroying the APC house.

“So, I think the APC leadership is weak, is too compromising and is certainly a failure as far as I’m concerned.”

Sagay said the war against corruption could not be won without committed judges.

He accused some judges of “deliberately” sabotaging the crusade by obstructing justice.

His words: “We are very concerned about the judiciary. Without the judiciary, we can kiss the anti-corruption war goodbye. We must have a committed judiciary, otherwise they will keep messing up any case that comes. It’s so easy to give a reason, which will appear to be reasonable, and the public will say the anti-corruption agencies have not done their homework. It’s not so.

“Quite a number of the judges are deliberately taking decisions which I’d say indicate their hostility to the anti-corruption war. There are judges who are hostile. There are judges who interfere when such cases are going on, using their position to ensure that government loses.

“Government is aware of all this. It’s just that some of us are not in a position to take decisions. People who should be stopped are slipping through and still being relevant when in fact they should be pushed aside into retirement where they will not interfere in the anti-corruption struggle.

“There are reports on these judges, some by the Department of State Services (DSS). I feel that judges who are not committed to the eradication of corruption should be eased out of the system.”

Sagay said he stood by his assertion that the Senate was self-centered and unsupportive of the anti-graft war.

“One of the most critical Bills pending before them – the Special Crimes Court Bill – was yet to be passed,” he said.

The PACAC chairman said it was rather the Senate that owed him an apology for abusing him for speaking the truth.

“I didn’t abuse them. I merely said they’re not committed to the Nigerian people, that they’re there for themselves alone. I provided the figures to show it. I know the worse exists.

“There are certain things I didn’t say. I did not even mention what the Majority Leader, Deputy Senate President and Senate President get as extras. Those extras run into hundreds of millions of naira. What I said at that lecture is a tip of the iceberg.

“Our aim is for the National Assembly to finally admit that they’re frittering away our national assets and preventing these funds from being used for various other vital sectors to create more employment and fix infrastructure.

“If you recall, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Lamido Sanusi said they were consuming 25 per cent of our budget. They didn’t deny it. Instead, former President Jonathan forced Sanusi out.

“If we look at the senators’ allowances, we should ask ourselves questions. Should we be the ones clothing senators? Should my tax be used in hanging agbada on a senator?

“How many times has government provided clothes for workers? But these men who are overpaid are still asking us to clothe them as if they arrived in Abuja naked.

”These same people ask us to pay them hardship allowance for doing their job. What of the man who is earning N18,000 a month, who operates machinery and sweeps the streets? No one pays them hardship allowance!”

“Yet, people who live in tremendous luxury get paid hardship allowance running into billions. Why are Nigerians quiet about it? I don’t understand it,” Sagay said.

On the Senate’s refusal to confirm Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu, Sagay said it was the President’s exclusive prerogative to decide how long he remains in office.

“Magu can act indefinitely. The Senate does not have jurisdiction in this matter. It is the President who does because of Section 171 of the Constitution. This government is being a bit gentle, not wanting to ruffle feathers. Maybe that’s why they’re politicians and in government.

“If people like me who are not politicians were there, these people (senators) would have heard a different message. I’d have rammed things through and damned them to go and do whatever they like, and let’s see who would come on top.

“I believe that ultimately, righteousness, a good cause, a belief in principle will prevail. We’re dealing with people who are undergoing all sorts of investigations; they cannot face the righteous.”

PoliticsRe: Wike Seeks Surveyor-general Help In Retrieving Oil Wells From Bayelsa by lightblazingnow(op):
If Jonathan returned Soku oil Well, I’ll support him, says Amaechi

January 2, 2014

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi yesterday slammed the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, the headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government, King Disrael Gbobo Bobmanuel, accusing him of betrayal over the Soku oil wells ceded to Bayelsa State.

He said if President Goodluck Jonathan returned the Soku oil wells and the 41 oil wells in Etche Local Government ceded to Abia State, to Rivers, he would support him, even as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amaechi said he was sure the President would not return them.

The Rivers governor, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt as a guest on a phone-in programme, Today, on 95.1 FM Radio.

Soku oil wells are in Akuku-Toru Local Government, while Abonnema is one of the Kalabari communities, comprising Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Degema local governments.

Bobmanuel, a few days ago, hosted in his palace, Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, who was accompanied by the Supervising Minister for Education Chief Nyesom Wike; the Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus; the Rivers Chairman of the party, Chief Felix Obuah and other PDP leaders.

The Abonnema monarch said he was satisfied with the way President Jonathan handled the Soku oil wells matter.

Amaechi said: “It has to do with the interest of Rivers State. It has nothing to do with my interest. There is an attempt by the Federal Government to undermine the development of Rivers State. Everybody is talking about Soku oil wells. There are over 41 oil wells belonging to Rivers State, which have been ceded to Abia State.

“They (the Federal Government) want to impoverish Rivers and as a governor, you expect me to keep quiet? It is not just Soku alone, it is also the fact that they have taken the oil wells in Etche.

“I heard my colleague, Bayelsa State governor, went to Abonnema the other day and the Amanyanabo of Abonema received him and said he was satisfied with the way the President is handling the oil wells. For me, that is a betrayal of his people.

“He (Bobmanuel) is a king in Kalabari kingdom and he says he is satisfied that the Federal Government has taken the oil wells and Bayelsa is receiving the money. It is not about me, it is about the Kalabari people. It is about the Rivers people.

“When the Bayelsa governor came, what was he doing in Abonnema? Why would the traditional ruler of Abonnema not tell the governor that Abonnema people are not happy over the oil wells taken away from them? The traditional ruler was expected to say ‘return our oil wells to us.’

“I have told the President that if he returns the oil wells, I will support him. But he (President) cannot.”

It does not matter whether I go back to the PDP or not, I will support him. He has not been able and he will not. If he (President Jonathan) thinks it will favour me, then let him keep the money in an escrow account, because the money was first and foremost in an escrow account.

“When he became President, he went to the escrow account and took the money. If it is about me, let them keep the money in an escrow account and give it to the next government in Rivers State. What I want to see done is the fact that our resources are returned to us.

“Now, there is no money in the escrow account, because Bayelsa State has expended the money. Even if we go to court today and the court says we are right, there is no money in the escrow account again. So, it is a hopeless and helpless situation for Rivers State.”

The Rivers governor added that he did not need to visit Soku before siting development projects like model schools and health centres, among others there, while accusing President Jonathan of taking sides in the ceding of Soku oil wells to his Bayelsa state.

He said: “President Jonathan stated that Rivers people call it Soku, while Bayelsa people call it Oluasiri. We do not need to go to court. Judgment has already been given by President Jonathan,” lamenting that the National Boundary Commission was yet to correct the mistake, as promised.

The NGF chairman also berated Wike, his former Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt and the Director-General of Amaechi Campaign Organisation in 2011, whom he said he made minister, which the two-term Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government council of Rivers State (Wike) denied.

Amaechi said: “I will not join issue with Wike. He is my junior in age. I graduated before him in the university. I ensured his re-election as Obio/Akpor Chairman. I made him Chief of Staff and Minister. I am a Governor by God’s grace, he is not. I have character. I do not know if Wike has character.

“I apologised to my friends for join issue with Wike. I do not want to be dragged to the gutter with Wike. The Obio/Akpor LG matter is not about political vendetta, but they are sharing the council’s funds.

“I have dissolved the Obio/Akpor LG council. Anybody who pays taxes, levies and other monies to Timothy Nsirim (the sacked chairman) will pay twice. The Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI, which has Wike as the grand patron) is a group of bandits, undermining the security of Rivers State.

“Police are being used to abuse my administration in Rivers State. Militants are now letting loose. They are now using the police, but Dr. Jonathan will not be the President forever. I do not have refinery in Ghana as being insinuated. I do not steal like them.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has urged the Surveyor-General of the Federation to resolve the lingering dispute over oil wells of the state wrongly ceded to Bayelsa state during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Forum of Surveyors-General of States on Tuesday at the Government House Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said that the Surveyor-General of the Federation is in the best position to address the boundary conflict.

He said: “I call on the Surveyor-General of the Federation to help in resolving the dispute between Rivers State and Bayelsa States.

“We believe that the oil wells belong to us. We are brothers and there is no need for this conflict to linger. Imagine if it was between two states with no relationship , it would have been worse”.

The governor pointed to the deadly boundary conflict between Kogi and Anambra over oil found in the area.

Speaking on the surveying profession, Governor Wike said that his administration will sponsor the training and retraining of surveyors.

It could be recalled that the ceding of oil wells belonging to Rivers was a very contentious issue that brought former Governor Chibuike Amaechi at a collision with former President Jonathan.

Amaechi had accusing the former President of using his powers to shortchange the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum of Surveyors-General of States, Michael Abiodun expressed gratitude to Governor Wike for being a progressive in terms of delivery of democracy dividends.

He urged the Rivers State Government to acquire satellite and aerial imagery of the entire state to enhance development.

Also speaking, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Ebisintei Awudu said that the transformation taking place in Rivers State is massive.

He called for the digitization of the Rivers State Surveyor-General’s office to enhance revenue generation.

People's Democratic Party chieftain, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has re-emphasized his commitment to the unity of Nigeria as Igbos are widespread in the country.

Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu
Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has given reasons why he is not in support of the agitation for Biafra.

The Abia state governor said the population of Igbos living outside of their states are over 11 million and as such, activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) put the lives of south-easterners at risk.

Ikpeazu said this in Abuja on Tuesday, September 19, the Cable reports.

While highlighting the spread of people from southeast, the governor noted that there are Igbo people even in Sambisa forest, a stronghold of the Boko Haram sect in Borno state.

He said: “I want to announce that the population of Igbo outside the Igbo enclave is about 11.6 million; you don’t play with the lives of 11.6 million people.”

“We all have to be careful, the press, the leadership at the state level and at the federal level, everybody. We are still working on stabilising and sustaining the fragile peace that we enjoy now.

“I swore with the Bible to protect lives and property; because I take such oath very seriously, I will continue to protect the lives and property of our brothers and sisters irrespective of where they come from.

“I do not see how, as an Igbo man, boxing myself into a smaller geographic entity will help the cause of the most widely travelled people in Nigeria.

“There are Igbo in Sambisa (forest); what are you expecting of them if I narrow their geography of coverage.

“But agitation, marginalisation and infrastructure deficiencies, these are issues which are germane and they can be discussed, spoken about and addressed.”

There’s a clear division between Kanu and his father, says Ikpeazu
Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state, says there is a clear division between Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and his father who is the traditional ruler of Afarakwu community in Abia.

He said this while fielding questions from state house correspondents after a meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The reporters had asked him to react to the demand of a youth group seeking the dethronement of the father of the Biafra agitator.

“I clearly separate Kanu from his father. The processes of handling traditional institutions are enshrined in the laws of our land,” he said.

“And traditional rulers who are members of our constituency have the leadership they will do the needful at the appropriate time. But for me, I think there is a clear division between Nnamdi Kanu and his father.”

He accused IPOB of attempting to set the country on fire, saying God used some instruments to keep the country as one.

Assuring residents of his state of their safety, Ikpeazu said the economy of Abia would suffer if “if we make our kitchen the theater of Biafra”.

“Nigerians know that for some time now that this group called IPOB was agitating for a separate nation called Biafra and that the home state of the leader of that group happens to be Abia state,” he said.

“As expected, when such things happen there is an interface between some members of that group and the military, and the theater was Abia state. And some people attempted to hijack that event to conflagrate our country. To the glory of God the rest is history, we are still working to stabilise the fragile peace in the region. I thank God also for the instruments he used to be able to keep our country as one. We are humbled by the privileges.

“I will continue to protect the lives and property of my brothers and sisters irrespective of where they come from. You know that the mainstay of our economy in Abia state is trade and commerce and I do not think it will augur well for our economy.”

I'll Fight Corruption Until It Dies - President Buhari Vows
President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari, has on Monday said that he will continue to fight corruption in Nigeria until it is completely exterminated from our body polity.

While speaking at the 2017 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management in Abuja on Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari said; "I will continue to fight corruption in Nigeria until it is completely exterminated from our body polity."

The President who was represented by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, said his administration will fulfill its vow of eliminating all forms of corrupt practices in Nigeria so as to put the country on the path of greatness and prosperity.

Buhari said; “To set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner and our collective consciousness always.

“You will agree with me that a great nation is the reward of great leadership built on good governance with strict adherence to the ideals and principles of corporate governance.

"This is our motivation and value proposition. My administration will, therefore, continue to fight corruption and associated social vices at all levels until they are exterminated from our body polity.”

He said the theme of the conference - Corporate Governance and Institutional Performance, was apt and relevant towards charting a new course and national reorientation.

Chief Justice joins fight against corruption, creates special courts
pmnewsnigeria.com

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen has joined the fight against the pervasive corruption in the country by ordering the setting up of special courts to fight the cankerworm.

Justice Onnoghen at a special session of the Supreme Court where he administered oath on 29 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on Monday, ordered heads of the divisions of courts to create special courts for corruption and financial crimes cases.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Onnoghen said the directive is necessary to end the unnecessary delay associated with the prosecution of corruption cases.

The Chief Justice also ordered that all lists of pending corruption cases in the various courts be forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The CJN disclosed that an Anti-Corruption Cases Trial Monitoring Committee will be constituted at the next council meeting to help the NJC monitor and effectively enforce the foregoing policy.

He said the committee would be saddled with, among other things, the responsibility of ensuring that both trial and appellate courts handling corruption and financial crime cases key into and abide by our renewed efforts at ridding our country of the cankerworm.

He directed heads of courts to go against prosecution and defence counsel who indulge in the unethical practices of delaying and stalling criminal trials.

“Heads of Courts are now to report such cases to the NJC which in turn, would transmit them to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee, in the case of Senior Advocates, and Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee in the case of other Legal Practitioners.

“Heads of Courts have been directed to designate in their various jurisdictions, one or more Courts, depending on the volume of such cases, as special courts solely for the purpose of hearing and speedily determining corruption and financial crime cases.

“Where such cases come on appeal, to either the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court, Special Dates on each week, shall be fixed solely for hearing and determining such appeals,” he said.

He added: “We are under no illusion that the fight against corruption would be an easy one, as we are already aware that when you fight corruption, corruption fights back; but we are determined to win it. We require all hands to be on deck to fight this monster.

“We in the Supreme Court, having reduced the pre-election appeals in the course of the Third Term of the last Legal year, will devote much of this First Term in dealing, by way of task work, with the identified eighteen (18) EFCC, ICPC, and Economic Crime cases alongside the normal Civil, Criminal, and Political cases.

“We must not lose sight of the indispensable role of the judiciary in the fight against corruption.

“Corruption continues to place the judiciary in the eye of the storm, but, we cannot allow that to deter us or weaken our resolve.

“It is regrettable that the image of the judiciary has been tarnished by the notion that the Nigerian judiciary is bedeviled by corrupt elements, hence the need for an image building parade.

“We must accept that acts of misconduct of a few rub off on the rest of the judiciary and create the impression that all judicial officers have their hands soiled with the proceeds of corruption.

“Let me be clear here; it is not going to be business as usual for the few unscrupulous elements in our midst.

“Any judicial officer found wanting would be dealt with decisively, and shown the way out swiftly. It is therefore for this reason that the independence of the judiciary must be entrenched if we are to hold the trust and confidence of the citizens of Nigeria.

“We, in the judiciary are fully aware and in fact worried by concerns expressed by members of the public on the very slow speed with which corruption cases in particular are being heard or determined by our courts.”

On the conferment of title of senior advocates on some senior lawyers, the CJN advised the beneficiaries to use the position to the growth of the country’s jurisprudence.

“The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is the pinnacle of legal practice and the highest honour conferred by this noble profession.

“It is a rare privilege bestowed on eminently deserving members of the Bar who have distinguished themselves in the knowledge, practice of and contribution to the law, having passed through rigorous processes.

“I am aware of the meticulous screening and scrutiny which lawyers are subjected to in line with the minimum standards of competence provided by the guidelines.

“It is therefore a commendable feat achieved by the newly appointed Senior Advocates. This privilege must therefore be guarded jealously,’’ he said.

The Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN) commended the CJN for setting plans in motion to commence a vigorous process of reforms aimed at re-positioning the Judiciary.

“I must also commend Your Lordship’s Circular on Practice Direction of May 28, 2017 on the compulsory enforcement of Arbitration provisions in contracts by our courts.

“This would promote faster commercial dispute resolutions and foster greater confidence in our judicial system by domestic and foreign investors.

“This directive will no doubt help to stimulate commercial transaction in Nigeria and thereby support the vision of the present administration to promote economic development and growth.

“Directives on designation of special courts solely for the purpose of hearing and speedy determining of corruption cases is highly commendable,’’ the minister said.

Malami, who is also the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) said the commencement of a new legal year, offered an opportunity to reflect on the challenges of the past year.

“It also helps us to review the strategies we employed to confront them, celebrate our successes, appreciate our limitations and then project into the future with a view to improving on the present indicators,’’ he said.

Biafra: We are one – Ikpeazu says as he receives northern colleagues
dailypost.ng

Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State on Monday received five of his colleagues from the northern part of the country.

While addressing them inside the executive chamber of the government house, Umuahia, Ikpeazu said, “we won’t allow an infinitesimal few to separate us”.

He said when the crisis started, he asked himself, “in my shoes, what will my brother Tambuwal do?”

Ikpeazu expressed gratitude to the northern delegation for coming to show solidarity with the people of Abia.

The governors, who visited the state were Kashim Shettima (Borno), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Aminu Masari (Katsina), Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi).

Earlier, Shettima, who is chairman of the northern governors’ forum, said the delegation had earlier met Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers.

He appealed to the people of the south-east zone to have faith in a united and indivisible Nigeria.

“On behalf of northern governors’ forum, we are here to commend Governor Ikpeazu on his high-quality leadership in handling the crisis in Abia.

“He rose to the occasion and declared a curfew in Aba just as Governor Lalong also declared a curfew in Jos to avert a reprisal attack on the Igbo.

“We are here to show solidarity. We have a moral obligation to ensure that Nigeria remains one. Nigeria is the largest conglomeration of black people in Africa and we cannot afford to separate.

“If the nation disintegrates, where will we go? North is the Sahara desert and Chad cannot contain us. If we go south, it is the Atlantic Ocean. South is too small for us and the mountains of East Africa with their so many challenges cannot accommodate us,”‎ he said.

Shettima said Nigeria had come a long way as a nation with rich diversities, hence, the need to sustain the country’s unity.

He said it was in the interest of all Nigerians to stay together and work to build a strong united nation.

“We are here to remind Nigerians that we are better as one. We are here to also invite our south-east colleagues to also come to the flashpoints of the north to speak to NdiIgbo living in the north,” he said.

In a move to promote national unity and peaceful coexistence , a high-powered delegation of the Northern Governors Forum on Monday visited Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, commending him for taking urgent steps that led to the protection of Nigerians living in the state.

The Northern Governors Forum delegation led by its Chairman and The Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima had Katsina State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri, Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, and Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong as members.

Shettima said that the Northern Governors were in Rivers State to identify with Governor Wike and commend the governor for nipping the unfortunate conflict that erupted in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

The Northern Governors Forum said that the actions of Governor Wike, especially his state-wide broadcast helped to restore peace, despite the challenges.

He declared: "Governor Wike we are mightily proud of you. We are mightily associating ourselves with you. Nigeria is greater than political differences. We belong to one political family and that is the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"No interest should be bigger than the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You believe in the Nigerian Project . For that, we remain eternally grateful “.

The Northern Governors Forum called for the enthronement of Peace building measures despite the challenges facing the country.

According to the Northern Governors Forum, no law-abiding Nigerians deserve to be punished because of where they reside and do business.

Governor Shettima said despite the unfortunate incidents in Abia, steps have been taken to ensure that there are no retaliatory attacks in different parts of the country.

In his response, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike declared that he will continue to protect all Nigerians and foreigners living in the state.

He said: "Rivers State believes in the unity of this country. Rivers State will not be a part of those calling for the disintegration of Nigeria. We owe it as a duty to protect every Nigerian living in the state.

"I will not allow any group intimidate, harass or attack other Nigerians living in the state. We are Rivers people and we belong to the Niger Delta “.

While stating that violence can never lead to the resolution of any grievances, Governor Wike urged those who are aggrieved to embrace dialogue in the interest of Peace and development.

"I am not against anyone who wants to protest any grievances, but there are channels for such protests", he said.

Governor Wike added that the people of Rivers State have their own peculiar grievances against developmental issues in the country. He pointed out that as Governor, he has raised such issues, but will never support the disintegration .

Hundreds of armed youths set ablaze a building along Bello Way, where Igbo traders have shops.
Shops were vandalized and burned by the irate youth presumably acting in counter terror for tales and videos of pro-Biafrans attacking northerners in Nigeria’s East and South South.

President-General of Igbo Community in Sokoto State, Charles Uwaga, confirmed the attack.

Igbo cars were also burned in the attacks in the capital.

The police has been sent to restore order.

Nigeria is on a boiling kettle since president Muhammadu Buhari sent the Nigerian army to attack and arrest pro-Biafran separatist Nnamdi Kanu.
