Biafra: Mbaka reveals how Igbos will treat each other if their nation is achieved
dailypost.ng

Controversial Enugu-based Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka has predicted what will likely happen should agitators succeed in their push for the actualisation of Biafra.

Mbaka said he was convinced that fault lines between different Igbo communities would arise if Biafra ever became a reality.

The priest made this prediction while addressing a cross section of Igbos in East London, on Tuesday.

According to Mbaka, “If you think we have trouble in Nigeria now, we will see trouble in Biafra.

“No Anambra man would let an Enugu man be president, no Imo man would let an Abakaliki man be president”.

Mbaka also faulted claims that the South East is being marginalised.

Citing the immediate past administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, the controversial priest said an Igbo was Finance Minister, Central Bank governor, and so on.

Mbaka also noted that those whom the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu have been able to influence into agitating for Biafra are “the children of the poor,” who are not thinking properly about the implications of secession.

He insisted Biafra agitators were being deceived by Kanu.

Mbaka had earlier disclosed why Igbos must insist on the unity of Nigeria.

PDP should keep quiet on the issues of economy - Abdullahi
naij.com

- The never-ending bickering between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has shifted to issues of the economy

- The main opposition party, has been criticizing the APC-led federal government on its handling of the economy

- APC national publicity secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi has fired back

The national publicity secretary of the APC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has advised the PDP to stop making comments on the current state of the nation’s economy.

According to Daily Trust, Abdullahi made the comment in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, during an interaction with journalists.

Abdullahi, a former minister of sports under a PDP-led federal government, advised his former party to allow the APC government tackle the economic difficulties that they inflicted on Nigerians.

APC spokesman, Malam Abdullahi accuses the PDP of destroying the Nigerian economy. Photo credit: Thisday

His words: “If you create a problem and other people are trying to solve it, the least you could do is to, at least, keep quiet, not continue to lay claim to any superiority.

“If you recall even before the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria has started borrowing money to pay salaries.

“And so many people, including former CBN Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, our own Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, warned at a time that whoever takes over from Jonathan is going to face a very tough time running the economy. It wasn’t the APC that created the situation.

“So, the APC inherited a situation and tried to make the best of what we have found. Then, you also have to ask yourself, the kind of revelation that is coming forward. The EFCC has reported how much money it has recovered in loots.

“Then, you ask yourself how did it happen? How did it happen that so much money can be stolen from the system? Those things must have implication for the economy. If an individual is said to forfeit permanently amount to the tune to £17 millon; the kind of figures we are hearing is even difficult to wrap your mind around it.”

“If the APC destroyed the economy by doing what we are doing, what did PDP do by allowing the kind of mind boggling stealing that happened in the last two years, repair the economy?”

Meanwhile, Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote has rejected moves by the PDP to get him to contest in the 2019 presidential race on its platform.

Dangote declared categorically in a phone interview with a national newspaper that he has no interest in politics and nobody or party should tie him to it.

His words: “I am an entrepreneur. My passion is to create jobs for Nigerians and not otherwise. I am not interested in politics and this is authoritative. People should stop dropping my name for the 2019 presidency.”

2019: Buhari Presidential ambition speculative – APC
newtelegraphonline.com

Even though some persons and groups have started campaigning for the President, Muhammadu Buhari to run in 2019, the ruling party has stated that Buhari’s Presidential ambition is speculative.

According to the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the Presidential ‎ambition of President Buhari is speculative and the party would not respond to such issue.

Since the return of President Buhari from his medical trip in London, many groups and some persons have started campaigning for him as APC presidential candidate in 2019.

It would be recalled that the New Telegraph had reported that since Buhari came back from his medical trip, some APC chieftains hitherto warming up for Presidential ambition have buried their ambitions.

Such persons were alleged to be former vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kazzim Shettima and Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

They had already started forming political alliances with some Southern politicians.

But speaking on President Buhari’s ambition for 2019, APC spokesperson said the party would not comment on such issue since it was speculative.

Abdullahi maintained that the President had not told anybody that he would be contesting for the 2019 Presidential election.

According to him, it is only when the President indicates an interest for the 2019 President ticket of APC, that the party would know if it would support him or not.

Asked if APC would support the Presidential ambition of President Buhari in 2019, Abdullahi said, “that is speculative.

“We can’t be reacting on speculative issues. It is only when the President indicates interest to run for 2019 that the party would speak on whether to support him or not.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, said on Monday he has been having private discussion with potential governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), telling them “to allow him seek God’s consent” on the choice of a successor.

He said although aspirants have the right to aspire for the state’s number one seat, he (Fayose) also has the right to support whoever God asks him to support for the 2018 governorship race.

Fayose said he had invited aspirants like his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola; former Commissioner for Works, Mr. Kayode Oso and former Wema Bank Group Managing Director, Mr. Adebisi Omoyeni “into the room” to allow him seek the face of God on his successor.

The governor spoke on Tuesday at his Afao-Ekiti country home during a meeting with PDP aspirants and leaders from Ikole, Ijero and Ise/Orun local government areas of the state.

His alleged opposition to the governorship ambition of Deputy Senate Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi; former Deputy Governor, Chief Abiodun Aluko, party’s national spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and others has been causing tension in the party.

Fayose said: “Followers need not create a wedge between me and gubernatorial aspirants. As much as aspirants have the right to aspire, I also reserve the right to support whoever God asks him to support.

“If I were asked to pick a candidate to succeed me, I would have picked Kayode Oso straight off. But I have called him into the room and told him to allow me seek God’s consent concerning it.

“I have called my deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola. I have also called Bisi Omoyeni into the room and asked him to allow me seek God’s consent. Whoever God chooses, we will support among the aspirants. Whoever that is not the one, the spirit of sportsmanship should be embraced.

“I have nothing against Prince Adedayo Adeyeye. I have great respect for him, from ministerial appointment to chairmanship (of the Governing Council) at Ekiti State University and then his recommendation to the party at the national level.

“I have always stood by him. I wouldn’t have done that for someone I don’t love, so mischief makers had better looked elsewhere to play their game.”

Fayose also appealed to party members to downplay personal agenda and ensure the party’s interest is put on the front burner, adding that “never will any candidate be imposed on the people.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he has returned to the country with renewed hope and strength to pursue policies that will improve the livelihood of the people and reposition Nigeria for good.

This is just as the President received associations of farmers, businessmen, youths, elders and politicians from Katsina State at his country home on Monday in Daura.

He attributed his recent recovery to a divine act of the almighty God and assured Nigerians of his continuous commitment to serving the nation.

“Considering the challenges we are facing as a nation, we have been doing our best to provide sustainable solutions, and we will keep doing our best.

“I am happy you came here today and I am thankful for all the prayers. You are leaders of various groups at the grass roots, and you are closer to the people so you understand these problems as well. We need your support,” Buhari said in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Garba Shehu.

In his remarks, the leader of the group of associations, Zannan-Daura, Sani Daura, said the President’s return signalled God’s interest in turning around the fortunes of the country.

He said, “On behalf of all the elders here, we are grateful to God you returned alive and in good health.”

Daura, a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, also said President Buhari’s life of patience, endurance and contentment was exemplary.

He prayed God to give the President more strength and wisdom to lead the country.

Earlier, President Buhari had received the Emir of Katsina, HRM Abdulmumini Usman, and his entourage at his country home.

Why youths cannot rule Nigeria – Bisi Akande Reveals
247nigerianewsupdate.co

Former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande has said that the brand of democratic system in Nigeria is akin to military junta, noting that political players are not better than military dictators and despots.

The former Osun State Governor also expressed pessimism over the competence of the youths to take over the mantle of leadership, saying there is total erosion of values among the young generation.

“The core value system is no more in place. We have a mixture of the negative and positive tendencies among the youths.

“The negative tendencies are more than the positive ones. How do we get sincere and good future leaders in the present society”.

Akande, spoke when he payed host to members of Pan Yoruba group known as Yoruba Patriotic Movement at his Ila-Orogun, his country home.

He noted that the whole political system and pattern of governance in Nigeria predicated on “governance with impunity”.

He explained that the Nigerian party system was still far from entrenching internal democracy base on carryover of military orientation and gestapo approach.

Akande insisted that the only way democracy could be sustained and nurtured in a party system is to have an independent and virile political parties, the one not tied to the apron string of any governmental institution or structure.

“Political party grew in hierarchy system in those days; whether you are tailor, bricklayer, carpenter or whoever, you must learn politics through your political party.

“You cannot just rise up and say you want to become this, you want to become that in the party. You must learn first. Political party was a leadership training ground.

“But the military deliberately killed that system. The military wanted to be controlling the political party after they left power.

“The military created political party like NRC, SDP during Babangida’s time; we would remember the five leprosy fingers of General Sani Abacha. After they left government, they made regulations for the political parties through the civilian government.

“Up till date, military mentality still pervades our political system. Unfortunately, those who knew the military plan have left the political party leadership. Majority of the people at the leaderships of the political party are those who grew or learn politics in the military arrangement”, Akande opined.

Allegations against IGP shouldn't be swept away like that of Magu – PDP

today.ng
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the federal government against “sweeping the allegations against Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP), under the carpet”.

Isah Misau, senator representing Bauchi central, had accused Idris of collecting bribes from oil companies and banks where police officers are posted to provide security.

In a series of tweets on Monday, the PDP said it was worried over the “deafening silence” of the federal government on the matter.

It said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government refused to act on the allegations levelled against Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The opposition party said the allegations against the IGP are “too weighty” as the police must itself of the accusation.

“We are again worried with the deafening silence of APC-led FG on the allegation of corruption against police IG by senator Misau,” the PDP tweeted.

“The N120 billion fraud allegation against the IG of police is too weighty and the police authority must purge itself of this accusation.

“The sudden realisation that senator Misau is a deserter further exposes the complicity of the police force on this matter.

“This allegation must not be swept under the carpet by APC like the ones against the EFCC Ag. chairman, Magu, and others

“The APC-led FG cannot be said to be fighting corruption and at the same time covering up corrupt officers.”

In two reports presented to the senate, the Department of State Services (DSS) said Magu failed “integrity test” and would constitute a liability to anti-corruption war to the Buhari administration.

Magu denied all the allegations.
