Biafra: I hope Nnamdi Kanu will show up soon – Falana

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has said he hopes Nnamdi Kanu will still show up so as not to jeopardize the liberty of the sureties who signed his bail papers.

According to him, Kanu may have left the country for the United Kingdom where he is also a citizen since his survival in Nigeria is risky.

He further said that he believes that the life of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is in danger.

Falana told Punch newspapers: “Mind you, Nnamdi Kanu and his wife and children are British citizens. He may have left the country to join his family in the United Kingdom. While campaigning for Biafra he never threw away his British passport.

“I hope he has not run away so that he does not jeopardise the liberty of his sureties. It is an irony that Kanu, who is leading the struggle for the Balkanization of Nigeria, has dual citizenship, while Mr. Shettima Yerima, who gave the notice to quit to Igbo people in the North lives in Lagos.

“For sure, Kanu’s life may be in danger. When armed soldiers invaded Odi in Bayelsa State or Zaki Biam in Benue State, they killed scores of people.

“Everybody’s life in Nigeria is in danger. Nigerians are shot dead in their homes by armed robbers or on the roads by soldiers or policemen or by armed herdsmen on their farms. So, it is a risky business to survive in Nigeria.

“Even President Muhammadu Buhari had to be flown to Britain for medical attention because his life was in danger here. So, nobody is safe in our country.”

Churches of nowadays are not helping us to love God and render our services to him so that we can receive rewards. Todays Pastors are only making people to love their Churches more than God. They are only interested in winning more people to their church than winning more souls to Christ. They fooled people to render more services to their Churches than they render to God. They make people to spend more time in their Churches than spending a quiet, personal time with God. Some church goers now believe in their Pastors more than they believe in God because they seems to build relationships with their Pastors more than they build with God.
People do all these ignorantly, forgetting that these Pastors are just MEN OF GOD and not GODS OF MEN. They are humans like us, capable of mistakes and even evil.
This is why so many Christians of today have not and might never achieved anything from God as believers.

Biafra: US Government says IPOB not terrorist organization

The United States Government has said it does not categorize the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation.

In a correspondence with Sunday Punch, the spokesman for the American Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks, also stated that the US was committed to Nigeria’s unity and would support a peaceful resolution of any crisis in the country.

“The United States Government is strongly committed to Nigeria’s unity. Important political and economic issues affecting the Nigerian people, such as the allocation of resources, are worthwhile topics for respectful debate in a democracy.

“Within the context of unity, we encourage all Nigerians to support a de-escalation of tensions and peaceful resolution of grievances.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra is not a terrorist organisation under US law,” he said.

The US embassy, however, declined to comment on whether the Federal Government had asked it to treat IPOB as a terrorist organisation and to block money sent to IPOB from the US.

Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja, gave a judicial backing the executive order of President Muhammadu Buhari, outlawing the group and its activities in the country.

The court granted the order to proscribe the group on Wednesday.

A short while ago, the Federal Government said that the country was out of recession. How true is this?

I said it in 2014 that Nigeria would be hit by recession. If the Federal Government is trying to score political points by saying that the nation is out of recession, then it should try something else. We are still in recession. Until the government is ready to do the right thing, we are not likely to come out of this. The government must get the best economic team to handle this. There is hunger in the land. People are hungry and frustrated. They are angry. There is bitterness and pain in the land. The government cannot come out to say that all is well. All is not well. We are in recession.


What do you think should be done so that we can come out of this situation?

A lot of things must be done. The government must do something more rewarding about the issue of agriculture. We should not be sending food out when it is obvious that many people are hungry. The agriculture sector must be taken seriously and strengthened. Churches with many parishes should invest in agriculture. Many young churches are struggling. Mega churches should be encouraged to go into agriculture. Churches are to help people. That is what we are doing. Churches must get involved in mechanised farming. There should be changes in the Central Bank of Nigeria. The same thing should be done to the NNPC. Nigeria’s oil will not exist in 10 years time. The quality of our oil will drop.



There are agitations today in the country, particularly in the South-East. You predicted some years ago that a time would come when the country as a whole would be no more. What can be done?

Nnamdi Kanu has taken the wrong step in his fight for Biafra. He cannot actualise it. But the government must dialogue with him because his agitation will cause pandemonium. There will be a lot of factions within the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). Some people would penetrate the group in order to cause issues. Besides, I see a major referendum in the nearest future; it is not now. No government can stop the disintegration of Nigeria. Only God can stop it. Note my words: only God can stop Nigeria’s disintegration, but it is not yet time. By 2035, Nigeria will be no more. Five nations will come out of the country. Two will be greater than three.

As we approach the 2019 general election, so many happenings in the country have been attributed to the election year. What should be expected?



Neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can take Nigeria to the next level. I have five names of people who can take Nigeria to the next level, but it is not yet time to announce them. You know the way we are in this country. Should I announce those names, they would tell me that I have been bribed.

Unfortunately, President Muhammadu Buhari cannot take Nigeria anywhere. Atiku Abubakar cannot take Nigeria anywhere. He should consult God before stepping in. When Dr Goodluck Jonathan wanted to re-contest in 2015, I told him to consult God. Atiku should consult God so that his ambition will not ruin his image or personality. He must watch out. Buhari’s second term is not the best for Nigeria. He knows that. He should leave in 2019 and pick someone else from his party. A northerner will still rule in 2019. No South-West governor will rule in 2019.


The Supreme Court appears to have solved the leadership crisis in the PDP. What is your take on this?


The Supreme Court did not solve anything. It only pointed to the right person to be the leader of the party. PDP is under duress. They are being manipulated. They should first carry out a cleansing of the party. After that, they should carry out consultation about how they can do better than they have been doing before now. If not, PDP will lose it in 2019.


In all of these, where does the South-West stand?

That region is a divine region. It should just calm down. When things go awry, South-West has been the one always settling them. There are so many factors that will come out from the South-West before 2019. In order not to cause chaos, you must give it to a northerner – the right person. Even in Oyo State, the next person to rule the state will be announced at the right time. A small fish will swallow a big fish in Oyo State, even in Osun. In Anambra, if Obiano is focused and takes the right steps, he will retain that seat but not PDP. PDP cannot take over that state. There is even more hope for APC than PDP. The broom which is the symbol of the APC is very spiritual; you should not see it as just ordinary. Very soon, you will see more people decamping to the PDP.


What about the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye?

Look at the travails of Dino Melaye. It is a big fight. He is getting it wrong. He would have been the best person to confront the governor of his state but he is getting it wrong. He is taking it out of proportion.


Will the world become a better place?

The world will continue with the troubles that afflict it. There is no peace in Nigeria. There won’t be peace in the world. More calamities and criminalities will go on. I told you in 2015 that kidnapping would take another dimension in Nigeria and beyond. When I said so, many people laughed. I also predicted that Ebola, Lassa Fever had not gone, people also laughed. Is that not what we are witnessing today?

In a leaked audio obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN on Saturday, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, said he was happy that a former president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, died because he heard that the late president planned to inject him with HIV and Hepatitis virus.

Responding to a question in what appeared to be a question-and-answer session, Mr El-Rufai clarified the caller’s question, insisting that he was happy Mr Yar’Adua died.

“Now, regarding the question about Umaru Yar’Adua, yes, I am grateful to God because I am alive and Umaru is dead. Because he wanted me killed.

“You know, there are plans to inject me with a combination of Hepatitis and HIV if I return to Nigeria.

“This is what I heard. I don’t know whether it is true or not true. But the fact that I am alive and he is dead, I should be grateful to God. Everyone has his own fate and destiny”, Mr El-Rufai said.

This newspaper could not independently establish the date and place the audio was recorded.

Last week, DAILY NIGERIAN exclusively reported how El-rufai warned his political enemies at a Kaduna APC stakeholders meeting held at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, saying that: “I had fought with two presidents, Umaru Yar’Adua ended up in his grave, while President Goodluck Jonathan ended up in Otueke”.

Governor Fayose, Others Risk Jail For Campaign Billboards

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, and some All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants risk jail term for allegedly campaigning ahead of the time stipulated by law for the 2018 election.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji, addressed reporters on Wednesday in his office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Raji said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was empowered by law to prosecute politicians who engaged in any form of “early campaign” before the time allowed by law.

Fayose has erected billboards bearing his pictures and those of his deputy in which he referred to Olusola as “Your Next Governor”.

The new REC Commsssioner frowned against running of campaign jingles on the electronic media and placing of campaign adverts in the newspapers which he said violate electoral law.

Raji said: “All these acts are not in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

“Activities that look like campaign are against the Constitution and people should desist from them. Media houses should scrutinise jingles and adverts that may implicate them.

“Any offender convicted is liable to a maximum fine of N500,000 and a jail term at the discretion of the judge. The law also permits INEC to remove such billboards.”

Raji advised political parties to join hands with INEC to ensure the success of the 2018 governorship poll in Ekiti State.
