ACS:Law said it will be sending thousands of letters to alleged file-sharers of copyright infringement. The lawsuits will go out in the New Year to thousands of suspected file-sharers, asking them for a compromise to avoid dealing with it in court, averaging for several thousand pounds as a settlement.

ACS:Law said each case will be different, based on the amount of illegal copyright material downloaded, ranging between several thousand pounds, but said the compromise will typically be between £300-500.

Jaclyn Clarabut, from Which?, told BBC News that, "A lot are accused of downloading pornography," while other cases will be based on illegally distributing movies, games, and music.

"Many have never heard of peer-to-peer file sharing," said Jaclyn Clarabut, in reference to the 15,000 suspected file-sharers.

ACS:Law recently acquired two high court orders to obtain 30,000 IP Addresses with account details, including their name and address of the account owner, and is in the process of preparing three more court orders.

However, the technology to hide or spoof an IP Address, disguising the users true IP Address, is available on the Internet, which could cause for many consumers to be false accused of file-sharing. Andrew Crossley from ACS:Law said that this does not apply for file sharing purposes.

There are also cases where consumers do not password protect their router, and makes it easy for near-by users to simply connect to their Internet connection and illegally download copyright material.

When phone/internet broswing tricks and free ebook downloads come become peer-to-peer sharing or software piracy abe whatever? I am not so good in software but I know a bit about piracy. Wasn't skydancer the one warning people asking for cracks on the one of the computer boards. Even the rapidshare link he gave me is a shareware. And once u buy, it u can share it with any person as long as u no sell am. You can't cover up for what you did and if you can't accept that you were wrong, well that's up to you since you say that 'mistakes maketh experts'.(Maybe even when they don't learn from it )
Also the people who are to be judged are those providing pirated programs not those who are providing the sites. Anyway, I'm not even ready for an argument. Everyone values his self-esteem highly and hurting it is hurting the person. Moreover, if you had created board rules like in the religious forum, No one will have to complain about anything.

I saw what skydancer wrote in a topic called Moderator! and I waz kinda moved by what he wrote. He sounded as if he was trying to help but his efforts were being rendered futile and Oyb was really very rude to him. No explanation given and Mavor said it too. I too have been wondering why so many people are complaining of banning and other things, so when I set foot in a board I read the rules. Skydancer is known for different kinds of help he has been rendering on the computer section though I once got a little problem with him on the religious section but that was just that. I don't think he is bad or rude. He just sent me an email on very useful sites to download ebooks and I checked it out and it was cool. Then he gave a link to some very useful sites for downloads and then a link to a browsing tool he wrote and some browsing configurations. I don't see anything concerned about what he said and NL being a warez forum. I'm retiring for the day and I really don't approve of his post being deleted so crudely. There is no need to make enemies in life especially when we still consider morality. I know you will know how best to settle this issue since this is your site and home. Some of these moderators really need to be reviewed. Thank you

@Moderators: If it's what skydancer sent me in an email that you deleted then I think you have something with him. Maybe jealousy? And why would you lie he was just pasting 'miserable links' when he means good for everyone, and he is a developer too. If you know how to find these links why don't you tell us. BESIDES, I never see any board rules for this side or are you just exercising your rights as an administrator. Remember that you can also stop being an administrator anytime. And it's so foolish to show your tongue to someone when you are not allowing the person to stand up to you by locking the thread? People are just keeping their mouth shut to prevent themselves from being banned. Nairaland is full of triplicate usernames. Even the spam bot has made me curse a number of times and I have never release an ounce of apology from NL. Is that what you want? Maybe it is. It's up to you to do whatever you want but just remember there are human rights.

When MTN finishes upgrading their optic fibred network, No one will be able to near them talkless of beating them again. For now my ISP is cool enough though it still flunctuates from 300 to 500 download speed
