Often times, I wonder the kind of interest British and their Monarchs have on Nigeria? Despite being our colonial Master, I feel they've not helped Nigeria as they should (my opinion though) BTW, why should they give a coup plotter this type of rousing welcome? Seems they are not happy seeing us prospering? |

naptu2: That was in 1989. Newsline (Patrick Oke and Yinka Craig) did a special on it at the time. I've forgotten who received President and Mrs Babangida at Heathrow, then they took the train to Victoria Station where the Queen was waiting for them.
Maryam Babangida curtseyed, while the President just shook hands with the Queen. There was the 21 canon salute, then they rode to Buckingham Palace in carriages (The Queen and the President in a carriage, Prince Philip and Maryam in another carriage. Babangida's ministers and other members of his delegation were in other carriages). I remember seeing the ginormous (rotund) figure of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji in one of the carriages. There were royal salutes (God Save The Queen and Arise O Compatriots) all along the route.
Margaret Thatcher visited Lagos in 1988 and 1989. Prince Philip visited Lagos in 1989 (he laid the foundation stone of Muson Centre in Onikan) and Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Lagos in 1990 (a few weeks before the Okar Coup). Well done Oga naptu2! The Encyclopaedia of Nigeria history |

Pope paves the way for married men to become Catholic priests: Controversial move to tackle shortage is likely to outrage traditionalists Pope Francis is considering allowing married men join the priesthood The men of proven faith - viri probati - might become priests in remote regions The married priests will not be expected to adhere to church rules on celibacy Pope Francis is considering plans to allow married men to ordain as Catholic priests in remote areas where there are chronic shortages of clergy. The pontiff is considering proposals raised by bishops in Brazil who complain some areas are only administered by a priest a couple of times a year. Under the proposals, married men of proven faith, known as 'viri probati' by the church, will be able to join the priesthood. www.dailymail.co.uk |

cstr1000: There was a time when Igbo parents refuse Igbo marriages to people beyond the Niger . It is one of the major reasons why many Nigerians call us tribalistic. Some Igbo parents still discriminate. But many Igbo parents don't care about where the spouse come from anymore. Not true! Most Anambra parents still frowns at their children marrying non-native. The same thing affected me... But for the most Imolites, they don't care. As for me, you can find love anywhere provided the person is God fearing and there is love among you |
