Crime / Amazing Transformation Of A Boy Labelled A Witch And Left To Die After HIV+ by liltee123(m): 10:58am On Dec 18, 2020
A Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Lovén shared before and after photos of a young boy rescued in Akwa Ibom on December 2019 after he was branded a witch and left to die.

The young boy was labelled a witch in Akwa Ibom and left to die after testing positive for HIV.

According to reports, the child’s condition was so critical that they feared he won’t survive but one year after his rescue, Saviour Udem’s transformation has been amazing, despite being a HIV patient.

Sharing before and after photos of Udem on Thursday, Ms Loven wrote;

“Exactly a year ago exactly we were called to look at a serious case. A young boy had been spotted along the road and he was in a life-threatening condition,”

”It was just before Christmas and we were all busy decorating Land of Hope for our big Christmas party and suddenly we had to rush and prepare for a rescue mission.

“When we found Saviour he was in serious pain. I was not even sure if he would survive. When I made the update on the day of his rescue I wrote “his condition is critical” and that was because what we worried later turned out to be the case.

Saviour was tested positive for HIV and when infected, most children in Africa die within one year because of the lack of treatment.

Nine out of 10 children aged 0-19 years living with HIV are in Africa and one of the best ways to fight stigma and empower HIV-positive people is by SPEAKING OUT openly and honestly.
For many years we have educated our children about AIDS and they know that HIV does not make people dangerous and together with our staff they are at the forefront in school to enlighten their fellow students not to discriminate people who are HIV-positive.

As Nelson Mandela said: “Let us give publicity to HIV/AIDS and not hide it, because that is the only way to make it appear like a normal illness”.
Saviour was rescued in time and the urgent treatment we gave him saved his life. Today, one year after his rescue Saviour is a very strong and happy child. He loves to go to school and to play football

Saviour is so much enjoying his new life at Land of Hope where he is constantly surrounded by love, care and protection thanks to all for your amazing support.

Education / Re: The Number Of Recorded Pregnancy Cases In Benin Republic Secondary Schools by liltee123(m): 12:12pm On Dec 14, 2020
liltee123:
The Beninese news agency, ABP has reported that more than 500 pregnancies were recorded in secondary schools of Benin’s northeastern department of Borgou during the 2019-2020 school year.

ABP quoted Thomas Adam, a Representative of the child protection department of Secondary education and professional and technical training ministry that more cases were recorded this year against 2018-2019.

“Altogether, 547 out of 36,487 school girls regularly registered were pregnant during the 2019-2020 school year as against 431 cases in 2018-2019,” Adam said.

Adam attributed the increase in the cases of pregnancies to the long cessation of classes observed during the coronavirus pandemic.

Although no strategy linked to the phenomenon was yet made public, several analysts of the Beninese society fear that the crisis linked to the COVID-19 affected the measures taken to eradicate early pregnancies in schools.

A boy known as Ashamu Lekan, whose hope in life dimmed because his parents died has called for help so that he could return to school. His cry for assistance was brought to notice via Twitter by a man with the handle @AnatuGreen.

@AnatuGreen said he met the young boy at a mechanic shop where the boy is an apprentice after he dropped out of school. According to him, the boy said he is willing to go back to school if he gets help. The man attached two photos of the boy wielding a spanner beside a tricycle.

The boy said he could combine school with his mechanic apprenticeship. When he was asked if his boss will be open to him combining school with his work, the boy said there will not be any problem with that, adding that when he is done with the school day, he could always resume at the shop.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Sunday said it would not suspend the strike it embarked on until the federal government paid all the salaries of its members it withheld.

The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a telephone interview, said government should not expect the lecturers to resume without paying the withheld salaries.

Recall that there were reports on November 27 that the union had agreed to end its strike following the Federal Government’s promise to release N70bn to ASUU as earned allowance.

But Ogunyemi on Sunday said;

“We are still consulting; we have not finished consultation, by the end of this week we shall make our report public. There are promises government made with dates. Government promised to release salaries of our members. The withheld salaries have not been paid and we need to have information on that. Government should not expect us to resume without releasing our salaries.”

He emphasised that once the timeline expired this week without the salaries being paid, the union would take a final decision.

Ogunyemi also explained that he can't determine when ASUU would suspend the strike. You can read the statement below;

“I can’t vouch for anything about resumption, but my members will determine that. The only thing I know is that payment of withheld salaries can smoothen the process and that is what we have told the government. It will aid the final decision.

“The government gave a timeline and we are monitoring, once the timeline expires this week, our members will take a final decision. If they pay the withheld salaries, it will make the process easier to handle.”

Crime / Re: Man Stabbed To Death In Delta After He Won N15 Million Bet (Graphic Pix) by liltee123(m): 8:55pm On Nov 30, 2020
liltee123:
A 27-year-old man identified as Prince Mieyebi was stabbed to death by three armed men in Warri, Delta State, after he reportedly won N15 million in a betting game.

It was gathered that the young man was killed while closing a shop belonging to his Aunt at the popular Ogbe-Ijoh market in Warri South Local Government Area of the State on November 27.

According to reports, the assailants fled with the deceased's mobile phone after stabbing him on various parts of his body. He died before he was rushed to a near-by hospital.

An uncle to the deceased, Mr. Thomas Ogisi, who confirmed the murder on Saturday, claimed that the deceased had played the betting game a week before his death with all his predictions going through to the sum of N15 million.

It was not clear if the murder is connected to the reported N15 million win as his account could not be accessed since the assailants made away with his phone.

"The boy stays with my elder sister. On that fateful day, they were in Ogbe-Ijoh market and were preparing to close when suddenly three boys blocked him in the shop and they stabbed him. The incident happened around 6pm on Friday. After stabbing him, they collected only his phone and left. Before he was rushed to the hospital, he was already dead," Mr Ogisi told Daily Independent.

"The information we are hearing from his friends indicate that he was killed because he won N15 million from a betting game. He was expecting the money to be paid to him on Wednesday before he was stabbed to death on Monday. Some of his friends were aware of the money,"

"We are demanding for justice for the gruesome killing of our son. We want thorough investigation by the police. We are not also happy with the level of security at the market." he added.

Majid Michel Reveals Reason Why Marriages Don’t Last

Majid Michel, a Ghanaian actor turned pastor, has shared his thoughts on why marriages don’t last anymore.

The Ghanaian actor who has been married for 15 years said the problem is the foundation.

He said most people begin relationships thinking about s3x. As a result, after they’ve had s3x, they do not know how to be friends.

He wrote: “interviewer: So Majid why do you think relationships and even marriages don’t last? Majid: well, if you are going out on a first date and all you are thinking about is sex, therein lies the problem. People don’t know how to have a relationship outside of just a s3xual relationship. they don’t know how to talk to a person, they don’t know how to be friends. and this is the reason a lot of relationships and marriages are breaking down.”

Education / Teacher Allegedly Beats Student To Death For Not Answering A Math Question (pix) by liltee123(m): 7:32am On Nov 28, 2020
A Nigerian man, Ridwan Oyewunmi, has called on Nigerians on social media to help him get justice after a school teacher who is currently on the run, allegedly beat his younger brother, Boluwatife Omelaja, to death at a school in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Thursday, November 26.

In a Twitter thread, the distraught brother said the teacher beat Omelaja because he couldn’t answer a question. His tweets read

"Twitter NG i just lost my brother to School Teacher Brutality. Mr Emmanuel(frame 1)is a sec school teacher at Elihans college, Ikorodu in Lagos. He beat up my brother Boluwatife Omelaja(frame 2) to death on 26th of November in the school premises because he couldn't answer a math question he was asked correctly.

The school initially made us believe he slumped and died while he was trying to answer the question on the board, a boy who wasn't ill or showed any sign of sickness before.

He was brought home in the school's bus by the school proprietress and principal, along with Mr Emma-whom we didn't know was the killer at that time, and he was buried few hours later according to muslim's doctrine

Meanwhile Bolu's other brother, Lateef Omelaja was prevented from leaving the school premises, in order to prevent him from spreading the true news to us at home and to buy Mr Emma more time to run away.

We believed the cock and bull story the school fed us not until Lafeef got home at around 5pm and narrated what really happened at the school to us.

We also confirmed this from other students of the school including classmates of Boluwatife.

The painful part is, the school keeps trying to cover up for Mr emma claiming he didn't beat Bolu.

Mr Emma is on the run, nowhere to be found.

I know no amount of punishment for him will bring back my brother but i just want Mr Emma located and justice served.

#JusticeForBolu"

A lecturer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Prof. Olugbenga Bello, emerged the winner of the Nigerian Academy of Science gold medal.

This was contained in a statement on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, Mr Lekan Fadeyi.

Fadeyi said, “ The prize is awarded to deserving scientists whose works made the most impact in furthering the frontiers of knowledge and has made significant contributions to mankind with particular reference to the national context, it is the highest honour that the academy would bestow on a Nigerian scientist.

“Bello received the prize which included certificate, medal of recognition and a purse, from President of the Academy, Prof Motso Onuoha, in the presence of thousands of renowned scientists and an elated Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof Olufisayo Ologunde, who himself is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science Technology.

“It was the third edition, but the second in Physical Sciences. Interestingly, he is a sole winner, not a joint winner as observed last year when the award was in the Life Sciences.”
